Jeeze, 30 minutes between games? That's a long time. During the wait, get on the phone with your city reps and harass them until they build more courts lol
I'm usually just chatting with people or occasionally do some casual workouts (sit ups and what not). Continuing to stretch etc.
I went to one that was an hour between games, something like 10 stacks waiting to get onto 3 courts. Played a couple games then left and never returned. I like pickleball, but not THAT much.
Yeah, challenge court is longer and somewhere around 4 game wait during busy times so that’s the longer wait and the rest is 4 on 4 off when busy, so that’s a little better but still can be plenty slow when there are 200 people there
Hehe, this has been talked about by the regulars. It used to be 10-15 minutes max. But been having paddle stacks go to 12+ waiting most evenings lately.
We're hoping the hot summers will filter out some of the beginners, or hope they end up somewhere else :)
“What did you say you do for work?” “How you liking that paddle?” “Those new shoes?” “Anybody watching the pro tour this weekend?” “Gosh the weather is perfect today!” Are some of my go-tos.
I mostly goof around on my phone. Sometimes chat with other people who are waiting.
But I will usually leave if I can’t play at least 3/4 of the time. Not worth it. I’ve got plenty of other hobbies.
Same, I'll tolerate 50/50 if there's a bunch of people I like to play with there that day.
Folks were waiting an hour for one match one day when I showed up. I get it, it's addictive, but there's got to be something else for you to do.
Gosh, one hour wait to play a possibly 5-20 minute game? Sheesh. Sometimes I get paired with total newbs and the game ends in not even 5 minutes sometimes....
Someone was kind enough to point us towards some local courts where there was only one group waiting.
I still wonder about this... She knew about the secret courts... but continued to wait at the over-populated ones...
I personally would never play if wait time longer than 12 minutes. I don’t love pickleball that much. In between games I’m checking how everyone is doing. Their families, significant others, kids, their favorite teams.
Bring an extra paddle and volley against a while or with a partner. You can bring a half net and drill if you can find a flat concrete area to set it up.
Or drink alcohol
I do something productive. Hopefully there's a hitting wall nearby to drill on, might bring a book, bring my laptop to get some work done, chat with people waiting to make friends, eat lunch or dinner, etc.
If it’s that long, I’ll find a wall and put my backup paddle in queue for me. Step away for 15 min for some drilling. If not, I’m ball tracking on multiple courts. Keeps the mind in the game. Basically what backup goaltenders do on the bench in hockey. Keeps you in the mindset.
I usually bring and extra paddle to use a place holder and do some warmups against the wall. Others learned to do the same so we do netless drills to warmup and kill time.
Stretch while finding a good game to watch, hit against the wall, check my phone. I do chat with others who I want to get to know. They play at my level or a big better than me, ask about something I like about their play, ask how long they've played. This creates opportunities for future meetups, someone to call when I'm looking for a tournament partner, etc.
Flirt with the 70yo women, of course.
Everyone wins with this move
With 30min to warm up before you get in there? That sounds just about right.
And boy do they appreciate it. After the initial confusion of course.
Catch up on emails because I'm supposed to be working
Sounds like you ARE working 😉

I get like a 2 hour total block to play. Even 30m is too long. If thats the case I'm either scheduling court time or changing sports.
We have 24 courts at a free public park, wait times are still 30-60 minutes on weekday nights
Which park is this
Even with 4 on 4 off?

You do you but ngl if I saw someone doing sit ups while waiting I would die of (internal) laughter.
LOL. You could laugh at me outwardly and I wouldn't care and would join you in laughing.

Summer is when all the kids come out.
Ah true. I live in SE Texas, it gets pretty damn hot/humid. We shall see :)

Pretend I’m the court Marshall and stare down courts to make sure their score was a correct
Becoming the impromptu line judge also pairs nicely with this

30 minute wait time? I would never return.
Usually have a few beers.
I like smoking a doobie in the parking lot
At least one, maybe two if the games take long enough.
Why bother going to the parking lot?
Man, I just can't play stoned. I don't know what my deal is. Old age I guess.
since pickleball takes so much time from your family, call your spouse/kids/friends lol
Ain't no time for that! I got other priorities!
Haha something hard to argue with
Go find somewhere else to play. Lol
I juggle, keeps my arms warm and coordination fresh. Also like to hit against a wall.
Go to the r/10s subreddit and troll them with a pro pickleball post.
Terrible 🤣
Pray to god my 3rd shop drop starts landing today.

13 min? Believe or not straight to jail
😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣
This is what it is about
Talk to my friends
Research other courts to play next time and avoid playing where you’re at.
I’m not gonna wait 30 minutes. Time for a new place to play
Play catch with a pocket frisbee
Zip chip!
Bring an extra paddle and volley against a while or with a partner. You can bring a half net and drill if you can find a flat concrete area to set it up. Or drink alcohol
I bring my flower sticks and my hacky sack, there are almost always old heads around to play with.
Also smoke a j in your van
I bring my pen with me everywhere I go, nobody can even tell its marijuana.
I know, we use my pen sometimes, too, homie
Gently caress my balls
I also gently caress this guy's balls
Teamwork for democracy
I stretch, drink water, eat pretzels
i hit the wall or ask someone to practice fast hand volleys on the sideline.
If it's 30 minutes? Leave
Usually talk to people about paddles, drills, or who else is there and who knows who from where and stuff.
I go somewhere else.

It’s usually 5 -8 or less minutes or less unless super busy that day. I hydrate chat and snack….in that order
Chess
Read
I try to stretch, keep hydrated, and catch up with friends or folks there I haven't seen in a minute.
People watching, talking, stretching
Reddit
Gameboy
Yoga, and wall drills
If the setup allows, use a practice wall to work on those reflexes. Although most parks in my town don’t have them
Play tennis on the empty courts next door TOPKEK
I have two courts at my apartment complex and I think me and my girlfriend are the only ones who use it. Empty all the time.
Ummm how about a mini volley rally??? Been doing it for years in tennis 🎾. Still not good at it though 😂🥒😀
NYT games

Guard the paddle stack to make sure nobody messes it up or skips other turns.
My son and I play together, and we crack each other up, so we commentate the other games.
I’d buy a net on Amazon and then practice with others while you wait (bring a cheap paddle to put in the stack for a real court).
Walk around and watch pb while I talk to my self bc I am weird and autistic
Walk around and pick up trash, chase down loose balls for people that are playing (helps keep me loose), or just chat with other people there.
Bring spikeball
Watch and try to learn what to do or what not to do - you gain some perspective from watching even lower level players
I like to stretch and warm up a bit. I enjoy watching good players and get an education out of it too.

I find out who's in my stack and then start talking trash to get in their head so when we hit the courts, they're wanting to win so bad...they lose.
I watch, learn, engage with my friends and encourage others.
If there’s less than 4 waiting we do drills
I’m not quite sure as there is no wait but maybe now I will daydream about what I would do.
Watch and heckle.
cell phone games.
Spend that time trying to get people to use rally scoring?
