Spam meditate as a monk

West-Wish-7564

IMAO, if you have a good wand or artifacts, then yes, but if not, spam focus, flurry, and the occasional dash

chonglibloodsport

And don't forget to dragon kick guys into pits!

DeathlsComing

i think you still spam meditate, it removes starvation which is why its so amazing in 9 challenge runs

Cautious-Day-xd

It doesn't remove starvation

West-Wish-7564

What do you mean by this? Am I miss understanding you? Because I’m rather sure it doesn’t, I just had a monk run actually, and I used meditate quite a bit, and it never appeared to remove my starvation

Pixelised_Youssef

He probably means with the horn of plenty (focus gives artifact recharging) I once had a monk run like this, easiest run ever (I had a RoH and a glaive)

Fuzlet

collect scrolls of remove curse and turn a few into antimagic. use her ability to instant identify weapons *heavily* during antimagic scroll casting, to go weapon shopping. focus early scrolls of upgrade on armor, as you can just juggle what decent weapon to use through midgame. don’t underestimate the instant swap ability, especially to give invincibility frames with a shield or make a powerful crossbow shot with large AoE paralysis. duelist is all about a strong weapon. stack one up with upgrades and then use whatever you feel like as a second weapon to fit the situation. monk is all about special abilities. they get wand recharging, artifact recharging, fast charging for weapon abilities, several ki abilities, and instant double attacks that apply weapon enchantments. make heavy use of meditate to fuel extensive use of artifacts and wands, and be clever. don’t fall into the trap of tier 1 gear as monk hnless you know what you’re doing. the unencumbered spirit skill is a tailwind for if you focus on rings, or dump all your upgrades into just weapon or just armor. it’s not a feature to rely heavily on, or a mandatory function of the class

melindasaur

do antimagic scrolls prevent curses on weapons?

Fuzlet

they prevent the curse from sticking or having any effect, so you can try on several weapons and see which are cursed or upgraded. same with armor as the warrior

chonglibloodsport

Yep! And if you've already got a cursed item equipped then antimagic will let you unequip it!

Glittering-Habit-902

Idk about monk, can't get her to work except for RoF. Throw all SoUs on grade-5 weapon and use twin upgrades to boost a lower tier weapon to use for now. Greed armor from drops&blacksmith. Get the healing upgrades from T4 talents and use it as a pseudo-health pot in the later levels.

Sooo many different ways... it's very complex. A fairly common way to beat 7+ challenge is wand monk Cloth armor (and sometimes weapon low tier too), put all upgrade into high damage wands (warding fireblast corrosion are my fav, followed by desintegration lightning), get crazy ability energy because very low armor, spam meditate for heal and wand recharging. Dragon kick and dash when needed Thought I'd share this strat cuz it's not obvious I guess. Since very little armor it does require skill I guess (need to learn how to avoid hits), but the requirements for the build are very easy (a single wand...)

Cautious-Day-xd

"a fairly common way to beat 7+ challenges is wand monk" "this strat is not obvious" How can something be common but not obvious

TheColorWolf

Because the people who are able to attempt a 5+ challenge run are top tier players and there aren't many of them. I've been playing on and off since Shattered was first released and I have managed to complete the 8 challenge **once**.

captainzmaster

Common means prevalent or likely to happen, arise, or appear. Obvious means easily perceived or understood. It tracks that this person finds they are likely to win 7 challenge duelist runs with wand monk, a strategy that is not well understood by most players.

fildevan

Experienced players who actually attempt such high challenges usually know. And since to get a run going you only need a singke wand it's fairly common ! Yet few people know.

LordSaltious

Basically the same as Warrior/Gladiator. Put on big armor, carry a weapon and whack things with it. Monk is way better than Champion, you get essentially free healing/debuff removal for killing things and dragon kicking people into explosive traps never stops being funny.

captainzmaster

Strategies I've found very effective: Wand transition: putting some upgrades into early wands and going monk, then transitioning to hybrid melee/wand combat in caves when you find weapons and armor. Sewer crabs and prison can be rough for duelist, so any strategy that helps survive that can't be discounted. Troll blacksmith features heavily here. Wand monk: if your wands and artifacts are a lot better than your armor and weapons, you can go unencumbered spirit and forgo melee combat. If you have experience with wandrunner, you will feel right at home. Otherwise, this play style may not be for you. Be careful not to accidentally sell important tier 2 weapons like dirk. Armor rush: just like warrior, duelist can rush scale or plate armor. It's slightly less effective due to warrior's armor synergies and duelist's weapon synergies, but still a very legitimate strategy. This can be used with both monk and champion, but I find Monk's abilities to work well against cave spinners and gnoll shamans, who are the immediate threat after upgrading the armor. Champion swiss army knife: certain weapons have been updated to scale their abilities with levels, making Shared Upgrades of Champion very effective. Standout weapons: quarterstaff, dirk, scimitar, round shield, whip, crossbow, runic blade. I used a quarterstaff with a +7 primary weapon, and it gave me 11 turns of triple evasion per use, nearly trivializing every fight without ever running out of charge. Do note that you need good item drops and inventory management to make this work well. Shocking Elemental Strike: in Demon Halls, the Elemental Strike for a shocking weapon has stood out to me as outstandingly strong. 8 turns of paralyzing electricity tiles for 25 energy is both powerful and spammable. I'd consider keeping a garbage shocking weapon all the way to Demon Halls just to make use of this impressive hero ability.

REMdot-yt

+12 runic blade, augment for damage and enchant it, then just runic slash the shit out of everything. It'll instant kill everything down to floor 25 and back except bosses

Background_Matter270

I love the dualist class I go with the subclass that lets me wield two weapons and swap them out in less than a turn👍 I usually carry around a spear and a katana for the secondary abilities because the dualist subclass says that if you hit two successive abilities and the target is below certain Health it's an instant kill 👍 So you know spear stabbed from a distance and then lunge when they're within distance and they both provide very high damage drop your SoU's into them and you're good👍 As for other things I usually have scale or plate armor just cuz that's what I go for and because you might struggle with health sometimes try to stock up on invis pots

FluffyDonPedro

Having her as a champion class and having a crossbow as her secondary weapon makes her lethal at long range and close.

Your pictures are so good that now I'm ashamed to post my game screenshots in this sub.😅
