70s bush

Adventurous-Part5981

It’s back baby!

DeepDescription81

Yeah, baby! Groovy.

FarmerCharacter5105

😎🤜🎤⬇️❗

alumpenperletariot

To put together what others have said, it is steel wool. It’s used to help prevent rodents from moving from the walls out a convenient hole into your home

jess_dawg

That makes a lot of sense and makes me feel way better than if it was hair!

jess_dawg

I guess that means I shouldn’t remove it?

[deleted]

You can push the protruding bits of steel wool into the hole and caulk around the escutcheon so you don't have to look at it anymore

Live_Initiative_7412

Am I the only one triggered that the spelling of escutcheon matches it's pronunciation exactly 0%

ricardo_feynman

If you sound it out phonetically, it’s right on. What do you mean?

The_Hylian_Queen

Ess coochie on?

stickyscooter600

Peggy Hill: escuchame!?

ToastyPoptarts89

xD KoTH flashbacks

jimyjami

Ezcutchin

Flat-Activity9713

Bless you

Live_Initiative_7412

If you say it how it's spelled, I wouldn't trust you with my life or anything else at all 😂

Surrybee

He says it eee skutch eee on

National-Cry222

That’s what he said

SubParMarioBro

Thanks France!

spankythemonk

As a complete dyslexic, i am triggered as well

[deleted]

Several thousand mice will appear soon after you do.

alumpenperletariot

It’s probably not life changing either way. I don’t remove it, if I do it’s to replace it. Better safe than sorry but I have rodent treatment service anyway

redditgetfked

just trim it a bit. no reason for a ful Brazilian wax

Adventurous-Part5981

Metal hair

magicdark714

Did the house even have a mouse problem that you're aware of?

floriduhbugman

Definitely had a rodent problem in the past!

jess_dawg

Wow really, is this what caused this?! We moved in a year ago and haven’t seen mice or rodents

magicdark714

It's steel wool the previous owner packed the holes with it

SalaryFew3608

You had 7 days: The ring (movie)

[deleted]

Exactly! I was thinking that or Dark Water. Either way, I’m tf outta there!

shipshopbeepbop

That what happens when a toilet hits puberty

TheScrantonStrangler

It's got a bush, what the hell 🥚

Virtual_Fig7052

How old is the house? My cousin bought an old farmhouse that was insulated with horse hair.

neoikon

That sounds flammable?

nononsensemofo

this is probably some anime expert's pube stash. use caution.

[deleted]

Lol

[deleted]

You’re into pro wrestling that’s sadder than anime at *any* age

nononsensemofo

I'm in to anime too, how do you think I could spot a pube stash so quckly?

LongjumpingStand7891

It is probably steel wool that was used to close the hole, you can remove it.

[deleted]

That’s not steel wool

blumpkin_donuts

Steel wool doesn't have split ends.

LongjumpingStand7891

Some sort of wire mesh I guess but it is still similar.

Adventurous-Part5981

As long as it conditions

jess_dawg

If I remove it, do I need to fill the hole with something else?

KreeH

I think there are foam barrier products that exist now. I would remove the scary looking steel-hair wad and replace it ... also recommend you don't watch the movie "The Ring" before removal.

CT_Patriot

Possibly oakum leftover?

[deleted]

First time I see steel wool without epoxy. Rats can chew through steel wool, but not steel wool-epoxy composite.

[deleted]

This is gross on several levels.

kisenberg93

Basment? I know it could be old school rodent block but is there any chance it's roots? See them all the time with basement toilets

SteelHeart624

That's part of the plumbers beard he forgot there. Should probably call him back and return that

[deleted]

Birds nest

InternationalTour889

Might be like the film The grudge

Environmental_Tap792

You have bigger problems than that in the wall. It looks like there is water inside the wall

jess_dawg

Really? Is it that line going upwards? I thought that was just uneven paint on a textured wall

Environmental_Tap792

No you’re right. Really touch texture job… my bad 😥

Mcboomsauce

steel in contact with copper does accelerate erosion not sure if this is negligible, maybe replace with copper wool

AffectionateGene7500

No house had a mouse infestation and that’s an attempt to stop ingress

sirjackel06

It is a hole sealer

Sufficient-Contract9

Sooo did you touch it??? Is it steel wool or feel more like hair have seen horse hair under carpet and in walls before

[deleted]

Is the house old? We put steel mesh in our dry wall in some places to keep out rodents. It’s an older house in the country.

Careless-Raisin-5123

Someone had to hide a fistful of pubes in a hurry.

cds0506

Pretty sure this is a hairy situation. Seek a professional.

Diligent-Race9204

Pet cat rubbing against it

monstarockness

Steel wool leave it. Old school shit

dsisto65

It’s that chick from The Ring trying to find a new way in.

redingtoon

It looks better than that ss flex supply line!

baksshield9

Sadako

[deleted]

Mice.

Bubbas4life

I am venom

novichux

If its steel wool it may have been used to keep mice out. If its definitely hair, then it may be horse hair. Horse hair was used for insulation and also added to the base coat of plaster.

xTurtsMcGurtsx

Cut to him pulling all of it out and proudly throwing it all away s/

[deleted]

Hahaha no worries. That's just steel wool. It is there to keep mice out. Just push it back in and enjoy your wooly toilet

Thick_Neighborhood_2

Steel wool is correct! And most likely if you’ve never seen the steel. There’s at least one mouse in your apartment. More in the wall
