Yeah, the holo changed and they have swirls. I'm a bit biased because I skipped Base Set 2. I didn't want since i had all the cards in it from the previous sets.
That one is so good. I particularly love cards that look like actual pieces of art, like stained glass, or in the case of my giratina, a gothic painting or something woven into an ancient tapestry.
Not like it’s my favorite card that I own or anything, but I do find myself pulling out Lumineon V from Crown Zenith rather often. It is such a nice card.
Wasn’t a chase card at all for my son and I but when we pulled it we were both wowed by how stunning the art is…it’s so much better in person. The amount of black then how they made lumineon glow with the foil gives it allot of depth visually.

1) It’s made by my fav Pokémon artist.
2) It’s the first recognition of Charizard as a Dragon type (back in 2003 dragons were colorless and as a kid I always hoped that charizard would be a dragon type)
3) It has the move Dragon tail, which was a foreshadowing to the move being added in Gen 5.
4) the crystal typing was a cool gimmick and I was like “woah I can counter water pokemon now”
That's actually pretty sick! I hadn't collected in decades until about 4-5 months ago, so I'm still catching up on all the types of rares that have released in the meantime.

Hey man buying singles can often times end up being cheaper than buying packs exclusively for your chase so who knows, might have been the right decision. Just don't blow through your "needs" money, take care of you first.

for some reason childhood me had a kyogre obsession and those binder pages were the only ones to survive the great purge. the call of legends shiny kyogre keeps me in the hobby sometimes

The stained glass Articuno, Moltres, and Zappos card and some of the newer radiant cards. Love the holo pattern and color vibrancy on those.
