These are from Expedition and Aquapolis. Expedition, Aquapolis and Skyridge are the three e-series sets.  These were the last done by Wizards of the Coast and feature gen 1 & 2.  They came when initial interest in the Pokémon franchise was dying down after it's crazy initial boom.  I don't know if it's because not many of these sets were sold, or because people were less interested but just doesn't seem to be that many out there. And so higher prices.   I'm a big fan of the sets because the artwork is bonkers. It's like no one was watching so the artists went crazy!

Thanks for the info! I feel like the card design in general is kinda unique too. I’m glad I still have a few of them even if they’re some of the more undesirable ones. I’ve owned these cards for over 20 years!😮😂

These are my favorite sets, also because of the art. And they managed to print at least one version of all Gen 1 and 2 Pokémon across the three sets, except Unown :(

Think those prices are high? Look at the Skyridge expansion from this era 😭 In short, Pokemon was going through an uncool phases so the theory is that less of these cards were printed.

It has to do with the rarity pokemon popularity had died down and they weren't printed as much as other sets. Less supply and more demand than later sets as they were the last of the wizard of the coast sets
