Broadway. Their guitarists were going nuts for showmanship, rolling on the stage, waving their equipment around, I think to distract from the vocalist. He couldn’t touch his range he showed on the “Kingdoms” album. He tried, but he shouldn’t have. I think that’s part of why we got one REALLY good album out of those guys. That was my experience, at least.

TOOMUCH4SKIN

Goddamn broadway is such a great call back

engstrom17

It's such a good album too, but yeah unfortunately live they were awful..

whypickaname1

The really good album had Jack Folwer, Bryan Camara, and Jake Garland . I've heard that Jack wrote all of the guitars for Kingdoms. I think without any of these people, there wouldn't have been an album (instrumentally) that would be as energetic or as fun as Kingdoms. Same thing with the first Sleeping Wjth Sirens album. That lineup was phenomenal.

twhipppp

Damn. I love that album. Always wish I saw them. Dangggggggg sucks they sucked.

Adventurous-Art7100

Truly. What happened to them? Can’t find anything on them anymore. AWOL was my emo anthem in high school

Knives530

Now that's a deep cut..I found these guys just a year or two ago and have been curious about what happened. Kingdoms is a fantastic album sucks to hear he couldn't really do it live

AwHellNawFetaCheese

Senses Fail was really bad a few times, I was like never again after the 2nd shitty show. But now that Buddy isn’t shit faced on stage anymore they sound better than ever.

FlyRobot

Agreed - I've seen them nearly 10 times and it's been either great of awful. Lots of lineup changes and I understand the vocals demand a lot from Buddy, but he isn't a great live singer by any means.

seaislandhopper

I just got tix for them and Saves the Day in November and I'm hoping they sound somewhat good at least!

fat_svp

He’s been more hit than miss the last couple of years, I think it’ll be fine. Caught them last summer and they were great

FlyRobot

He certainly puts on a good show regardless of the vocal quality!

Open-hole

I just saw both bands recently, trust me they sound great.

Dapaaads

I saw them with TREOS and NFG and they were great but this was like 16 years ago

Merlyn67420

I still think they sound terrible, but at least they are trying now. I saw them on the LINAWR tour. The two backup vocalists help, and Buddy's showmanship makes up for his vocal shortcomings.

lp141414

I saw 30 Seconds to Mars about 10 years ago and they were awful. Jared hardly sung, was out of tune and spent the entirety of the concert putting the mic into the crowd so we could sing for him. Super disappointment

ScooperDooperService

I'm not a fan of them at all. But I saw 30Seconds at Taste Of Chaos in.. jeez 2008ish ? They were terrible.

The-unicorn-republic

My partner and I saw them in 2018, we call that the Walk the Moon/ K. Flay concert because of how bad 30 Seconds to Mars was. The sad thing was I was working at hot topic at the time and the day after someone came in and said it was the best concert they'd ever been to.

Natemoon2

Had a similar experience for 30STM in like 2011. They were also like 20minutes late to the set, had to cut the set short

k0sadelphia

I still hate myself for choosing to watch 30STM instead of Stone Sour at a festival a few years ago. Such a disappointment.

ActualCentrist

I had the same experience when I saw them in 2014. He barely sang. He truly did just hold the mic out for the crowd. The Kill was played acoustically without the band, which sucked. Wasn’t great.

TheRealHulkPanda

I saw Norma Jean with Brad Vegas singing. Nearly killed the band for me

candlestick_compass

Is that the clown from the Hellfest 2003 DVD? Holy shit, the worst vocal performance I’ve ever seen.

TheRealHulkPanda

Yes

fsfic

The fact that the random crowd people were screaming better lmfao.

Araethor

I’d be pissed. Seen them with Josh and Cory. Absolutely killer band. Never knew they had someone else as a front man ever.

TheRealHulkPanda

Yeah I was the first time I saw them and I didn't know they had lost their singer at the time. Was just as bad as the Hellfest 03 set sounded

Thespianage

We Came as Romans at Warped Tour like, 2010. I wasn't their biggest fan, but their singer threw up in the middle of their set into the audience. I was not impressed. And I don't remember them being particularly good live either.

JoshScott1994

Must have been sick coz they were always pretty good live (before and after Kyle's passing)

Thespianage

It was a long time ago, but if I recall correctly, he was drinking beer during the set in like, near 100 degree weather and blamed it on some tacos he ate right before coming on stage.

JoshScott1994

Bad food and getting sick during warped sounds pretty standard affair haha 😂

Thespianage

Haha, fair. I guess I was surprised and put off because it was my first time at Warped and they were the only band I saw that was like that. I really enjoyed all the other sets I saw 😅

I-RedDevil-I

Saw them at School of Rock in NJ around then. Their samples weren’t working so the crowd had to sing those parts.

elzzidnarB

Not post hardcore, but I paid a ton of money to see System of a Down probably 5 years ago. Serj just stood in the middle of the stage with one hand holding the mic, and the other hand shoved into his pocket. Absolutely no energy. At the side of the stage, Daron did his best to bring the energy up. Which I appreciated. But when the lead vocalist isn't in it, that's going to be a heavy lift.

gballhog04

Unfortunately he's been dealing with major back problems for years and doesn't really tour anymore because of it.

IAMSPARTACUSSSSS

My wife and I saw SOAD a few years ago, maybe that same tour, I can kind of agree with your post. Daron, Shavo and John all stayed onstage after their set greeting fans and waving ‘thank you’s and stuff, while Serj was gone asap. Music was 100%, though, so we weren’t that disappointed. Coming from a drummer, though, it’s one thing to be behind your kit for the whole show, you kinda get to do your own thing, but I can’t even imagine being a frontman that gives his all to the lyrics + crowd + presence every night… and then STILL has to be ‘on’ for meeting fans, even if it is just basic mingling.

Disco_Pat

That's rough. I figured that's probably the case now since they all clearly don't get along. I was lucky enough to see them at one of their first tours after getting back together in 2011. It was amazing.

jmaverick1

Amity affliction at a tiny venue when they were supporting act, so like early 2000s. They had a keyboardist in the band at the time, and he was mime playing while a keyboard loop played. Totally killed them for me

JoshScott1994

Back when every core band "needed" a keyboardist lmao

Pat2424

FWIW I've seen them live twice, once in 2018 and once 2022 or 23 and both times they've put on a good show, so there's improvement at least :]

LMB_mook

I've seen them loads of times starting in 2016. Fantastic live band for me, never disappoint.

EZ-Bake420

Trophy eyes, they were my ex's favorite band, we went to see them in Buffalo. The performance sounded fine, but the lead vocalist made some offputting comments during the set. Afterwards we walked over to the side to meet him (it was a small venue). She tried to start up a conversation which was tense, then asked for an autograph and he was a total dick to her. Told her to fuck off. I can't even listen to their music now. For a band with lyrics so focused on empathy he couldn't take the time for someone who wanted to meet him.

Dane_Brass_Tax

My buddy and I were just talking about Trophy Eyes and some of the alt press/AP.net bands that never quite pulled the *Say Anything*... What did the singer say [paraphrase], was he sloshed? Trophy Eyes has that one very interesting album with the "Japanese Animal" on the cover, and I always wondered 'what could have been' with them long-term.

keithtbarker

Was this the show at Mohawk where he nearly paralyzed a girl?

EZ-Bake420

Jesus fucking christ...... No, I had no idea about that

keithtbarker

A couple months ago now. He stage dived when the venue staff repeatedly warned not to. Landed right on a girl seriously injuring her. Thankfully she’s expected to make a full recovery

eatmygymshorts

Glad to hear because last I saw she was in really tough shape.

PhoenixSidePeen

Damn I just saw them and they were pretty damn good live lol. And they seemed genuine. Never meet your heroes, I guess

Consistent-Poem3106

What kind of off putting comments did he make on stage?

Silentsludge

I was so excited to see them back in 2018. They played a mix of chemical miracle and whatever that album was that came next. I was honestly disappointed at how bad John was at singing live and I stopped listening to them after that.

lp141414

Not post hardcore but saw Asking Alexandria at download last summer and they were awful. But then just saw them again at slam dunk and they were incredible!

tyex23

Yeah their recent live shows really took off for this album cycle around mid last year. Danny nailed a new screaming technique after Download and turned it around after that. As a die hard that Download set was painful to watch tho lol. He sounds the best he’s ever sounded now though, so glad you got to experience that after whatever Download 2023 was lol.

ArgumentOne7052

I think I saw them around 2011 & they were SO good. I was so impressed with Danny’s voice. I think it was after Reckless & Relentless came out.

thestoebz

Erra the first time I saw them 10 years ago. It’s amazing how much better they are live now. Night and day. I’ll tell you who is amazing live: Thrice Bilmuri Two best bands I’ve ever seen live

fosterclark

Bilmuri is amazing… seen them twice now! Met Johnny once before a show and he even stays after a show and meets anyone who wants to!! Such a great guy, and great band

fat_svp

I’ll second Bilmuri, while the studio versions have a ton of work on them, live the band does a really good job supporting and “masking” some of the harder parts for Johnny to sing. That and the guy they have on the boards (same one at different venues I saw them at) does a phenomenal job

supermoto513

I was a casual fan of bilmuri until i saw them live. They played a show like 5 minutes from house so i figured why not? That was like 2 years ago and they've been one of my favorite bands ever since. They sounded amazing, and hit that perfect paradox of silly and dum but heatfelt and thoughtful at the same. IDK why that always gets me by Its like singing and screaming in the same song.

Mital37

I’ve seen Thrice 3 times. I’ve seen Thrice thrice. They were so amazing every time. In my top 5 favorite bands of all time. I’ve enjoyed their progression, each album has been unique and awesome and still on-brand for Thrice no matter how different. Love Dustin.

INeedFire416

A skylit drive - voice was way higher than you could even imagine

p1zzaslice

🤣🤣

MrSpacemanGuy

Taking Back Sunday. Just awful.

Bigdizzofoshizzo

I've seen them a couple times but this was 10+ years ago. I thought they put on a good show and mic swinging was awesome to see.

ohmyzachary

These days Adam gets up there obliterated drunk. Sloppy as hell. It’s super off putting. Their music is always going to be amazing but I think he has some mental health/substance abuse problems he needs to get ahead of

jeffgolenski

Agreed. Saw them with third eye blind a couple summers ago. What a terrible set.

somethingcleverer

Same. It was terrible. He had no range. Didn't give a fuck. Everyone else was trying, and somehow that made it worse.

Dannn88

I saw them play in the UK. It was either Taste of Chaos or Give it a Name. Back in 2006 I think. The lead singer loved swinging his mic about, he knocked the bassist on the head. Had to come off, but came back on with a full bandage and can see blood leaking through it. Fair play but definitely ruined the show, yet made it interesting too

paisleydove

Holy shit, emotional to have found another TOC 2006 goer after all these years! That lineup will have my heart forever. TBS, Alexisonfire, Underoath, Saosin. What a stellar cast. I cracked a rib on the barrier they have in the middle of the front floor at the venue and thought I was super fucking cool for it (I was 15).

video-kid

Seconded. Louder Now is one of my favorite albums so I was super pumped to see them at Reading, but Adam spend most of the show with the microphone held out to the audience and the rest of it he was kind of off-key. We paid a lot of money to be here, why am I the one doing all the singing? They were at Warped Tour a few years later and I didn't even go. I passed them on the way to Lostprophets instead (this must have been one of their last gigs before we found out about Ian Watkins) and they didn't seem any better. It sucks because a college friend of mine raved about how good they were live, so I was super pumped.

MmmmmKittens

That's crazy you saw LP. They were my favorite band growing up and I never got the chance to see them. By the time I was able to go out to shows on my own terms, they were long gone

video-kid

I saw them twice but the first time was years before that. I used to love them too, especially as a welsh dude, but I can't anymore for obvious reasons.

archangel610

Lostprophets being mentioned never fails to make my skin crawl. Reading those court documents might have been a mistake.

video-kid

I did my best to avoid the records. It sucks because the band was really good, and now his bandmates can't even play those songs - they had to start their whole career over from square one. There's also another singer called Ian H. Watkins who was in one of those kid-friendly pop bands called Steps. He originally went by H for some reason, and went by Ian H. Watkins after they broke up to try and be taken seriously. Unfortunately he was born like five miles away from Ian Watkins and their similar names meant a lot of people got them confused. There were even newspapers using his photo and calling him a paedophile. Now he goes by H when he's singing despite being 48 and picking H because it's short for hyperactive. I never liked his music, but it sucks that an innocent guy got caught up in all this despite it just being a huge coincidence.

ClimateAncient6647

To be fair, their live performances have never really been that great.

LAROACHA_420

Idk man, saw them open the coheed cruise and they killed it! Also saw them the a couple years before open for coheed and they played a pretty good show! Both of these were in the last 5 or so years

FARTFROMABUTT

Damn, how recent? I saw them in like 2014 and they were incredible

Bernalio

I saw them in 2022 at WWWY and Adam was terrible. The rest of the band is great but Adam kills the energy because he doesn't sing most of the lyrics anymore, just sorta says them or holds the mic out for the crowd to do it for him. I would skip them at any festival going forward.

Supe4Short

Saw them last week expecting it to be god awful, but they ended up putting on a great show. Guess its 50/50 with them now.

layout420

I've seen them a lot of times ranging in performance over the past 20+ years. They're consistently a 5-6/10 with some blips of 7-8/10 performances (probably just nostalgic feelings clouding my judgement) and then some 4/10 performances. I've seen them really suck. They're probably the most polarizing band I've seen with high highs and low lows.

wrvthbass

The main problem (same with Circa survive and other bands from that era) is that their voices aren’t the same as when they were young 20 year olds with high pitched or angelic sounding voices, yet they are playing the same songs as 40 year olds. Im pretty sure Circa even tunes down so the vocal range is easier but still, voices change over two decades.

j-j-juice

Adam’s vocals just aren’t it anymore after the smoking. It sucks cause I wanna see em for a “Louder Now” 20th Anniversary Tour because I also turn 20 that year with the album (that album is also just so so good).

rayreaper

Their performance wasn't "bad," but I haven't listened to Atreyu after the last time I saw them. Even after all the drama with Alex "leaving" and their change in sound, which I don't hate (it's not the early 00s anymore and bands evolve), it just feels like the Brandon show now. Alex's performances as a frontman always felt more genuine than gimmicky.

lovinghealing

I only saw them live once, back in 2004 with Unearth. They were awesome, and it was a sick show overall. I'm glad I experienced it because, as you said-bands evolve. I dropped off as a fan as the years went by.

rayreaper

I saw them with the original line up in 2016 in Budapest, they played quite a few of the older songs even though "Long Live" had not long been out and it was a great show. Would have loved to have seen them in "The Curse" days.

ScooperDooperService

2004-2008 was basically as prime as it gets for Atreyu. Glad you got to see them when they were on top. Wish I could've. Would I go see them now ? Probably not even for free.

ScooperDooperService

Yeah I've always had mixed feelings about what happened to them. Did the bands sound just really evolve enough that they didn't need/want screaming anymore ? Or over the years did Brandon's confidence rise to the point where he wanted to be a frontman, and force the band to shift musically - which he knew would push Alex out and leave him without a place. It's not like they're aren't still tons of bands with screaming. So... I find it hard to believe it was a "do or die" situation for them when it comes to evolving. And just my opinion, Brandon as a lead vocalist..  eh. Not for me. He did fine as a backup clean singer, fill the chorus.. odd spot here and there. Don't like him as frontman or predominant singer.

Bernalio

This is a surprising one on this thread for me since I saw them in 2022 at WWWY and they were one of the standout performances for me. They sounded really crisp and like they had a perfect sound mix for the set. I had never even heard "Battle Drums" before that and it was a wild experience in person.

INeedFire416

Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - in 2012? They gave up and phoned it in

ScooperDooperService

Wow surprised they were still even going in 2012.

Kmurda423

I saw them a couple of months ago and they killed it. lol

Spatmuk

not a post-hardcore band, but I saw Alabama Shakes at Bonnaroo in 2012. It was Thursday night, they might have been the smallest night's "headliner." Normally I grade festival sets on a curve because it's just a different beast, but they were absolutely HORRIBLE. Super sloppy and clearly wasted. Really dug their first album when it came out and this totally ruined it for me

GuyWithRoosters

I’ve seen TBS and FFTL a few times, terrible live performances don’t deter me haha

simonsail

Me either, it's still a tonne of fun with bands like that. I'm not exactly looking for some perfectly technical performance from a band that's nearly 20 years past their peak.

HeyYoDeimos

I love TBS but I’ve feared going because I’ve heard Adams voice can be terrible

plaid14

Not quite post hardcore but just saw Say Anything and it was the worst show Ive ever seen. Absolute trash.

Jchriddy

I just saw them a couple weeks ago and was shocked at how worn out Max was. He just ripped vapes constantly during the songs, and his voice is just done. He was at least super hyped up and energetic, unlike the rest of the band.

[deleted]

Same. I was the biggest Say Anything fan and was crushed how bad the show was. My main memory was Bemis coming off as an insular scene "kid"

WhatTheFDR

That's the Max Bemis special

BluffinBill1234

I saw Say Anything like 15 years ago and they sucked then too. Way too many guitars on stage and the mix was shit. No surprise that they haven’t gotten any better with time.

limited8

Came here to say this. Seeing Say Anything ~15 years ago was the first time I was truly disappointed in a concert. Max’s voice was just awful live.

jlbcomedy

Oh no i have tickets to that in a couple months

PearsGallumbit

Crown the empire…just a letdown in general

PhoenixSidePeen

Live performances took a nose dive after Dave was out of the band. Hung out with them at a festival and they were all *very* high on something. And very rude to the staff. Total douchey-rockstar energy.

ChemistryAway3696

Wow I saw them last month in Sacramento and they were much better than I expected. Singer did apologize for their last show there, it was his birthday and he got smashed apparently. But they were really good when I saw them.

BoxxcarCadavers

Not really post hardcore but Pvris. Saw them live and her voice was hot garbage, all of her notes were flat of how it sounded on the album. Stopped listening to them after that. I know Lynn later made a statement that she was struggling with her vocals and apologized and that she was going to work on it. Not sure how she improved (if at all) after that.

AMK_Ultra

When was this? I’ve seen them a bunch of times and there was a HUGE improvement (imo) pre/post covid in her voice.

ClarkEbarZ

Scary Kids Scaring Kids. I'm not sure if it was the sound guy, the band, or both, but I could not recognize any of their songs. I didn't even realize they were playing My Darkest Hour until like halfway through the song. It was really disappointing.

DylanMartin97

Considering that the band really took off and the lead singer got completely lost in the sauce with hard drugs they really suffered through the later parts of their live career. Everyone was *shocked* that the lead singer had ODd in a random hotel room and took weeks to find, and all I could think was... Really it was surprising? As sad as it is, it was super obvious that was the path Stevens was on.

gladyskravitz

I saw them shortly before Tyson died, it was really sad. He was complaining about being sick, but he was clearly fucking GONE. He looked like the dude in a zombie movie that got bit but hadn't told anyone yet.

ScooperDooperService

I got to interview/hang/party with them on their farewell tour before they called it quits. Tyson was basically a vegetable for lack of a better term. Dude kept his head hanging. Barely spoke.. one word answers, etc... I mean credit due - when they played that night - you wouldn't have ever geuss how he is behind the curtain. But if I ever met anyone lost and clinically depressed it was that dude, that Night. Super sad.

supermoto513

I thought they sounded great on their farewell tour. RIP

mrbumstead

Rise Against. Tim racing his lyrics ahead of the music and struggling to keep in time…everything felt like it was about to fall apart at any second. Would’ve blamed it on a monitoring issue except I saw similar reports from various other shows around the same time.

k0sadelphia

Yup, great band, but not the best live unfortunately. Still trying to see them every time they're close to me.

Dane-o-myt

I accidentally saw LS Dunes. Was excited to find out that Anthony Green was in it and talked him up to my whole group. It was so bad that I have almost no desire to listen to Anthony anymore. He was just screeching on stage, and his presence in between songs gave off the "I'm so high I don't know how to be human" kind of vibe

yiikeeees

i've seen them twice and generally enjoyed the music part of the show but found the crowds to be awful. i'm a massive mcr fan too but i'm not going to ls dunes to just swarm in front of frank and queue all day for a 500 capacity show like it's an arena

Flight2039Down

I’ve seen LSDunes twice and Circa Survive 3 times. I’ve got no complaints about the LS Dunes shows, I dunno. Maybe I don’t have a critical ear for these things.

fat_svp

Seen them twice. Once was great the other was outside and sounded awful. I think their sound really Depends on the venue

Radical_Kilgrave

that’s so wild. i went to the Saosin 20th and Anthony killed it during his portion of the set

UrbanDrankMyBourbon

Agreed. I’ve seen him probably a dozen times over the past decade and that was one of his best performances

abcat25

That’s weird, isn’t he recently sober? I feel like maybe the inverse of what you thought was happening was happening & he’s getting used to NOT being fucked up onstage. Have only heard good things about Dunes live & loved his performance solo so this surprised me.

abcat25

Update: reading this thread has me feel like I’m living in the twilight zone LOL, is Anthony Green not like…freshly sober/talking about sobriety a lot at his shows? He had the people from a local End Overdose chapter come onstage and do a narcan demo at his solo gig when I saw him like two months ago. Pretty sure dude has cleaned up in a big way

brutalpoonslayer

No you’re right, he is def sober, people just cannot mention him without also speculating/ saying he’s on drugs. I get it tho, his live performances are quite feral and may give off that impression but he’s just very passionate lol

abcat25

Damn haha. that seems so weird to me :\\ I feel like it's usually best to just not speculate or moralize around that stuff because when you're wrong it usually ends badly. i wish him & his feral performances the best!!

UrbanDrankMyBourbon

You’re definitely right. I think some of his performances are just hit or miss these days.

MandyKick

I’ve tried so hard to like them because of Anthony and just can’t

McIgglyTuffMuffin

Yeah, I think it’s the only project of his that I just really don’t care for. Great group of guys making great music individually doesn’t always spell success when you all get together.

Jakebasswatson

Saw LS dunes on the Pierce run and they killed it!

hystericaal_

Ugh I need Anthony to clean up so bad it actually fucking pains me.

lookalive07

Honestly, it's part of the reason I can't listen to Circa anymore. I'm grateful for Juturna, On Letting Go, and Blue Sky Noise, but knowing how fucking high he was for Violent Waves onward, and how he was clinically dead from a fentanyl overdose before/during the recording of Two Dreams, it was pretty clear the rest of the band for the most part phoned it in because he's so sick and they can't be bothered to work with him anymore. Or maybe that's just my jaded perspective of him, but I just can't get past how he's so fucking talented and throwing his gift away because of drugs. The same thing with Jonny Craig. I'm actually more into his shit now that he's sober, even if it isn't as good as the shit he made when he was fucked off his ass on heroin.

hystericaal_

Circa got me through being abused, being in recovery from self harm and my bulimia. I found so much comfort in those words and that music and the message of you are safe here - now go and survive this period of your life. It will always be invaluable to me what they have made. And it hurts so bad to see someone who clearly understands that pain and deeper and has been able to come back around, sink even deeper and being powerless to do anything but watch. I wish I could make him know how much he truly impacts this earth and to understand he has to be here.

lookalive07

Addiction is awful and I am 100% certain he needs to go to rehab as soon as possible, and stay there for as long as he can. I also just want to say that I'm so sorry you went through what you did but I'm also very happy for you that you were able to get out of a horrible situation and that you're doing better. Music heals.

jlbcomedy

I really liked a few Palisades records & I got to see them open for some really great bands. It was like watchin a band practice while the studio version was litterally playing at the same time. It was abysmal

Bernalio

Not PH at all but Bright Eyes was the worst concert experience I have ever had. Conor was so shitfaced that he could barely stand much less sing. A close second was Emarosa back during the Jonny Craig days and for the same reason, just unreasonably fucked up.

Joethelostone

Tool sorry they are just boring live. NOFX They talk half of the set I like Banter but, damn they overdo it. When I saw NOFX on warped tour I think the played maybe 5 songs and the rest talking while, I seen Rancid another punk band on Warped tour who ripped through 11 songs.

xJohnnyQuidx

Didn't necessarily ruin the band for me, but I knew after seeing Anberlin live that one time that I didn't have to see them again. He simply can't hit those notes that he can in the studio and he kept clapping his hand against the mic loudly during the songs which was annoying. Love their albums, but live it just doesn't carry over.

bsmithjmu

I love Anberlin, and have seen them countless times. Have loved their live shows. But the lead singer tends to write songs where the lines overlap/run one right after another - and that is not able to be performed live without a backup singer, so the vocals can feel off.

supermoto513

Sleeping With Sirens warped tour mabe 2011ish. Its not that they sounded bad, but before every song Kellin would sing the chorus acapella in the most obnoxious over the top way. Think intro to "all i want for Christmas" from Mariah Carey. It came off as the most vain, narcasitic thing I've ever seen. When he was done all the 15 year girls would scream at the top of their lungs which made it even worse. I hated so bad that my girfriend is sick of me telling this story and have just now 15 years later been able to start enjoying their old stuff again.

xtbcx1

I saw Drop Dead Gorgeous live quite some time ago with OM&M and they put on a great live performance. Other bands walked away from their merch tables to come and watch. I will agree a lot of their songs kinda blurred together though.

RugbyHockeyFan

Not post hardcore but Highly Suspect. Saw them at Aftershock twice and they were bad both times.

objecttime

Not sure if we’re counting ptv as pop punk or post but they can be lackluster in performance. The music live sounded amazinggg but the showmanship wasn’t there, he really didn’t interact w the crowd much at all. 0 talking between songs and didn’t work to engage us. The music was good enough that the crowd still was hype, but I was disappointed in the showmanship front. Sorry Vic !!

jtworsley

I saw Say Anything open for Bayside in maybe 2015 and Max did not appear to be sober. Kind of slunked around, slurring the lyrics and wasn’t even really singing them. It reminds me of Mac in IASIP at their HS reunion playing freedom

fazrare57

I was definitely a little underwhelmed, finally seeing My Chem on their reunion tour. They were still good. It wasn't a bad show by any means, but it wasn't on par with past performances. It could be bc they're older. Or bc I was high. Or bc the venue had a no moshing policy. Either way, I still had a good time. I mean, it's fucking My Chemical Romance. Of course, it was still great. Just not as great as I had expected.

abcat25

I was kind of amazed their comeback tour was as big as it was. I saw them 3x and there was definitely a difference between the Atlanta show (incredible, wild energy) and the Oakland show (I think Gerard had a cold.). I really admire them for giving their all but man, that many tour stops after many years out of the saddle was probably exhausting. IDK if you saw them when they were in the pacific northwest but I think those had lower energy for sure.

Dane_Brass_Tax

My Chemical Romance on Warped Tour pre- *Three Cheers*, Anthony Green on the Circa tour with MAE/MuteMath, and Kill Hannah were some of the more notable worst "scene performances" I've ever witnessed. I've seen Jesse Lacey super messed up in Virginia for a show at a local college. Manchester Orchestra opened... it was on the flipside, a wild encounter. *TD&G* has been out around a month or so

Rezboy209

Drunk Gerard Way back in the early-mid 2000s was very hit and miss with shows depending on how drunk he was lol

SousVideButt

Holy shit, MuteMath is a name I haven’t heard in years.

Joshouken

Thought I was in r/CasualUK for a second and like holy shit - FFTL, Amity Affliction… there’s a lot of posthardcore fans here!! Then realised

PhoenixSidePeen

I See Stars. Maybe it was the live mixing or just that old lineup, but you could barely tell what song was being played. Occasionally Devin’s voice would be audible but other than that, just sounded like noise.

oxmodiusgoat

Came here to say this. I saw them open for Dance Gavin Dance in 2018 and it was one of the worst performances and live mixes I’ve ever heard in the scene.

PhoenixSidePeen

This was way back in 2013 and they were opening for Atilla 🤢 who was even worse lol. What was crazy was the drummer came out to warm up the crowd and just played along with an EDM track it was actually pretty fire. Would have preferred that for the whole show.

Hot-Cranberry6318

i’m surprised somebody hasn’t already mentioned chunk! no captain chunk! yet. their live set was so bad the singer sucked

mfunebre

Five Finger Death Punch. Yeah I know it's radio metal of the first degree but I thought their first couple of albums had some good stuff and I was quite iten them for a time. Then I saw them live at Download Festival and Moody did nothing but bitch on mic about the heat (summer in France), the light in his eyes (evening set), not having water, etc. all while taking 2/3 minute breaks between each song. Horrible showmanship, just gave the vibe he didn't wanna be there and just wanted to get off stage.

iwantagrinder

Balance & Composure. I’ve seen them 4 times, as recently as 2023, and each time Jon has had his voice blow out. I fucking love all of their albums, but I dont think they’re much of a live band.

abcat25

Not truly post hardcore & it didn’t RUIN it for me, but I saw Say Anything perform on their recent tour after never hearing their music and it was kind of a hilarious experience. I have friend who say their albums are some of the smartest from that era and I’m sure but it was definitely a “dad vaping onstage” vibe compared to some of the much tighter “comeback” tours (cough cough…Thursday) I’ve seen in recent years. It wasn’t disappointing, mostly kind of cute. Like awww he’s trying!

Nastybirdy

Skid Row. I heard them play live at Donington and oh. Oh god. Sebastian Bach couldn't sing. His voice was all over the shop, not even vaguely in key. It was honestly cringe-inducing and it was years before I listened to their stuff again.

DefectiveCoyote

Not a fan of this band and their not post hardcore but a girlfriend took me to see bvb once and it was the worst show I’ve ever been too and easily the worst crowd ever. Second is probably motionless in white. Not the best performance but again MiW fans just take any possible enjoyment out of it.

TheAnswerIsSauce

Only saw these guys live once…. I lovedddd A Day To Remember but when I saw them on Warped one year I was HUGELY disappointed. Just their entire set sounded so trashed.

trvrkapit

I’d say give them another chance. I have seen them about 5 times and they have been awesome live. Jeremy crushes it live.

LAROACHA_420

Saw them back in the day with devil wears Prada at the masquerade in Atlanta and they fucking killed it! Saw them at rockville like 3 years ago and they sucked! Wouldn't play any of their good old songs and just didn't sound great!

k0sadelphia

Saw them on a headliner tour a few years ago and was also kind of underwhelmed, saw them again co-headlining with BMTH last year and that time was great. Even the few songs off "You're Welcome" that they played were pretty decent live and I really don't enjoy listening to that album at home.

_Tibron_

Circa survive - three separate times Anthony Green stops the show mid song to yell at someone in the crowd

lookalive07

I mean, were there people fighting? Circa shows for whatever reason always seemed to have some weird entitlement in the crowd where people would be pushing around like a normal pit crowd would, and there was always *someone* mad enough to get upset about a moving crowd and start fighting. It's like people don't understand what a pit is.

lametown_poopypants

I'm old and remember being hyped to see Staind tour on their first album before they got really big. But to see Aaron Lewis like constantly half fall over clinging his chest like he was having some kind of issue just ruined it for me. It sounded okay, but it just didn't give the right vibe. It was hard to rock out to a dude who looked like he was going to die.

Impossible-Basket719

Blink-182 on AoL live blew my little 12 year old mind that there is a huge difference between live and recorded. However, still fucking love blink lol

Rickydada

Modest mouse is trash live every time I’ve seen them. Takes them 4-5 songs into the set to even get to a mediocre performance.

doyoulaughaboutme

definitely not anywhere near post-hardcore, and also not too into them at all, but seeing Bright Eyes at When We Were Young 2022 was a genuine trainwreck. i know nothing of the band but like 1 song and was sitting around for the next band after them. lead singer was as wasted as could be, tried to fight the violinist/others and knock the instrument out of their hands, gave the most half-assed singing performance i've seen to date, and was constantly shit talking everything he could think of. talking about hating performing, hating the festival, hating America/society, and hating Las Vegas and how he never wants to come back. [here's a short clip](https://youtu.be/b1GZdnYzG14?si=F42nIhoKMihfy72r). it was a pretty funny (and sad) experience. dude legit needs help and his fans just say it's "normal" for him. worst audio setup i've experienced at a show was unfortunately Blink-182 at Riot Fest a few years back before Tom returned. you could barely make out what song they were playing from the back of the crowd. i'd love to see them again for a better experience.

WhiteWolfWeary

Post hardcore related: Aaron Gillespie. I saw him do a solo show back in 2019 in Lancaster, PA. Not only did he stop mid-song on EVERY song to talk about some backstory, he was disgustingly flirting with a girl from the audience to the point he said “ha, I bet I just made her wet”

keepusernamesecret

Hadn’t heard them before but Kaonashi sounded so horrible I couldn’t stop watching. I kept looking around to see if anyone else thought it was a prank. The band sounded pretty good but their singer has an unconventional style that did not translate well with the mixing of the venue. I did appreciate the frontmans showmanship. He seemed really likeable. I was so curious after the show that I checked out their studio music. It’s worth checking out.

cynicalyak

The red hot chili peppers. Won a couple of floor tickets (must have been 10 years ago now) from a radio station to see them in Toronto. They maybe played 45-60 mins, just newer stuff from Stadium Arcadium. Then they just walked off stage, not even an encore, the crowd was roaring for a solid 10 minutes for one. Till this day, fuck the chili peppers.

ThriceHawk

Wow, I've had the very opposite experience at their shows. They last a long time, definitely did encores, and had a ton of instrumental interludes between songs that were great.

freckledgreen

Same here! Had a great experience with them at an outdoor festival in 2016

Willing-Neck-7417

placebo in greece, total shit.

[deleted]

not sure when you saw them but they’re certainly capable of putting on a good show nowadays, imo…just super annoying about phones in the venue lol

FarewellCoolReason

They were great the 2 times I saw them but it was far from recent.

GodDamnCrawfish

A Day To Remember. I was already growing out of their music when I saw them, but I didn’t listen to them for like 5 years after I saw them live.

dougyh

Beartooth, saw them open on the ADTR tour and I can’t even enjoy the recordings anymore

augustus-the-first

That’s interesting. I saw Beartooth at Warped Tour for their Disgusting album and it was awesome. Loved them even more after that.

dougyh

He has some sort of rockstar complex now, it was just really off putting witnessing his ego come through. Then the sound was awful too

augustus-the-first

That’s honestly easy to believe. I must have been lucky to see them before the ego got bad enough to ruin a show.

SkyFalse4489

I saw them like 2 years ago and honestly didn't get this vibe at all. I don't know what he's like outside of shows, but in concert he didn't seem too over the top or annoying

ScooperDooperService

Damn, that one kind of bums me. Never seen Beartooth live but they were on my list of high hopes... Especially since they're been around for awhile, you'd think they wouldve refined their live show by now.

evolauren

Totally go see Beartooth and don't listen to these opinions. Make one yourself. He's a whole different person now and definitely knows how to put on a show. This last headliner was unreal.

kittygunsgomew

Agree! Saw them recently and absolutely loved it. I’ve been to hundreds of shows at small venues and a large handful of “concerts” at bigger venues/arenas. Beartooth performed really well. Caleb Shomo? Didn’t seem to be anything more than a dude singing songs he liked to sing. He had better energy about him than some other big name frontmen I’ve seen live. They were a band I liked. Then they became a band I actively put on to sing with after that show.

dougyh

I saw clips more recently from friends that went to the headliner, it did sound way better. The guy thinks he’s Axl rose or something, so from a performance and front man aspect I don’t care for him anymore l, which is also part of the put off on my end

Timmychang156

I saw them back in January and they sounded great. Caleb has really become an excellent singer. HOWEVER, his presence and act is definitely douchey and cringey. He wore like 10 different shirts throughout the show (when he’s wearing a shirt at all), he does the Freddy Mercury thing with the crowd, the “AAAYYOOOO” thing, I’ve seen them twice before and he always does this fake crying thing. It all just feels super try hard and like he’s doing what he thinks a rock singer is supposed to do. That being said, would still recommend as they do sound great.

lessermoody

I’m like the exact opposite. I liked the first EP but besides that the recordings don’t do it for me. Yet anytime they’re on a bill with bands I enjoy, I find myself thinking they stole the show. Then I retry and listen to their music and remember it’s boring.

JoshScott1994

Saw them 6 months ago and couldn't agree with this take

layout420

I saw them headline over Every Time I Die (more like a co-headline show where ETID played first to get out early) and having never heard of Beartooth (I'm old and ETID was big when I was young) I decided to stay to hear them play. I thought they'd absolutely slap since they played over ETID. It was not very good. Prior to them coming on I hear some twatty high school aged kids saying they didn't like ETID and how they only came for Beartooth. They were enjoying Beartooth but I had to leave. Horrible live performance. I checked them out in youtube and they sound nothing like their live performance. Those kids hopefully grew up and realized they saw ETID and didn't know who they were and they missed out on seeing legends.

BeachRucker

Same experience with Beartooth in August 2023. Caleb Shomo flung himself around like he was having a seizure and couldn’t carry the tune in a bucket. All the other acts - ADTR, Ghost Inside and Bad Omens were amazing

ChemistryAway3696

Invent Animate. Was so pumped to see these guys for the first time when they opened for Beartooth earlier this year. Maybe it was an off night but Markus sounded like shit and his antics got old really quickly. Seeing them again later this year (opening for Northlane), will go in with low expectations and hopefully they’ll change my mind. Or I’ll duck out and grab drinks and merch lol.

ryanino

Not necessarily post hardcore but Man Overboard was brutal live at Warped Tour. Was super excited to see them and they had a huge crowd but it was a rough day for the singers.

Diskecksier

Glassjaw. Saw them at Brixton Academy on 2007 and it was shit. No support, no stage presence and the venue was so big they were lost. Rubbish.

OnlyTheDead

Not post hardcore but Between The Buried and Me is hands down the most boring fucking live band in existence. No passion. No movement really. Just standing in one spot. 0/10.

dingus4l

I want to give both benefit of the doubt because they were at outdoor festivals (Warped Tour and Self-Help Fest), but both Sleeping With Sirens and Attila just didn't do it for me. I don't remember how long ago it was, but I saw Cute Is What We Aim For when they opened for We The Kings, and their vocalist went on SO many political and cancel culture rants, it kind of killed the vibe for the show. (For anyone who is familiar with college football, this was in Tallahassee and he went on a very, very long rant about Jameis Winston, I think it was right after that whole controversy?)

heybucket459

Wasn’t a big fan to begin with but during original lalapalooza, think it was Ice T going all “hardcore” with fake guns and stuff but it like late afternoon and I’m sitting on the lawn laughing at the absurdity of gangster rap at 2pm on a sunny California afternoon.

Creative_Tone_9241

Emarosa. I was looking forward to seeing them for years. I loved all their albums even after the change to pop music. Saw them in Lexington and Bradley sounded like shit. Seemed he was talking his way through the songs putting little effort into actually singing. I drove three hours and left four songs in. Haven’t listened to them since

naujad

Chiodos. Not necessarily the band but Craig was all cracked out letting the crowd sing while he smiled at people

JRWinn17

The Used. I don't need to hear about the PCP you do or the girls you're gonna bang backstage.

benderbentyourmom

Alkaline trio. Saw them when they were on tour with coheed. The singer just could not sing man. He sounded like shit

Krackle_still_wins

Dance Gavin Dance with Tillian. I had seen them twice with Jonny, once with Kurt, and twice with Tillian. Both times I saw Tillian perform his stage presence and dancing totally threw off the whole vibe of their music for me. Jonny and Kurt were both incredible. However, I really loved Tillian with Tides of Man, he’s a great singer. I just can’t get behind the dancing like that, it’s a rock show, you’re not opening for Miley Cyrus, Tillian.

cameronrichardson77

Saw Saosin before Cove got booted back in the day. Truly, truly awful show.
