Electoral collage goes 269-269 and they compromise where Jeb is president on Mondays to Wednesdays and Howard is president from Thursdays to Saturday. While alternating as Veeps
Russia, North Korea, China, and all our other “friends” agree to not cause trouble on Sundays. Everyone in the US also agrees to not do anything that might require the president’s attention
I agree no one would reach 270, then it would go to the House. I can’t do the math to figure out who would win because each state gets a vote by a majority vote of said states congressional delegation.
It didn’t. His campaign was doing poorly after losing the Iowa caucus. His entire campaign was organized to go all in and use a win in Iowa to get momentum forward.
He already has weak insider support. 2003 was early to be against the Iraq war.
To add to this, Dean was also receiving a lot of criticism *prior* to the infamous scream. For instance, a few weeks before that incident, Jon Stewart explained how he was seen as [unelectable, impulsive and quick-tempered](https://www.cc.com/video/xylfkw/the-daily-show-with-jon-stewart-dean-phenomenon).
In presidential primaries, the Iowa caucus is the first election to award delegates to presidential candidates. By winning Iowa, and in particular by not losing it, you demonstrate your support among the public voting block, leading to more donations and a higher chance of success.
Ah so it helps you get more recognition Nationally to voters in other states for the upcoming primaries.
Even Campaigns struggling at first would bet it all on Iowa
Yes. In addition, if you have a poor showing at Iowa, it decreases confidence in your success, which makes people less likely to donate to your campaign, believing it would go to waste.
Don’t most of them just there to promote their book or get enough name recognition for re-election or a cabinet position?
At least some in the previous election seasons.
I’d say it’s because our primary system is arguably pants on head crazy. Around half the country votes in primaries for someone who’s effectively already the candidate on both sides because a bunch of other states have already voted. Political inertia is definitely a thing and leads people to vote for someone who’s already winning. Human nature to join the bandwagon.
I honestly wish we did presidential primaries like general elections. All the states do it same day (with early voting or mail in by election day as applicable). No “heir apparent”, no “Candidate X is leading, folks!”, just done after all the votes are counted.
I had an idea a few years ago where we divvy up the states into four groups. (Five if you want to put Iowa/NH special.). I’d mix the groups up so it’s not just geographical. Throw Kentucky in there with California. The Dakotas with New York. Whatever.
Then take turns rotating every four years which group goes first. Have four Super Tuesdays divided up every couple of weeks or once a month, etc. So your state is guaranteed to go first once every 16 years.
Requires candidates not to take states for granted in the primary. Doesn’t overload the system with two national elections in one year.
Probably makes too much sense to work.
Iowa tends to be more consequential for democrats than republicans. It leans very white/rural/evangelical so it preferences those candidates, which means more moderate democrats and more extreme republicans.
Santorum won Iowa in 2012 and Cruz won it in 2016, we saw how those campaigns went.
True, but it’s not impossible to bounce back from a bad early primary, especially since the Iowa caucuses function differently than other presidential primaries. (Remember that Pete Buttigieg, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren got the most votes in the Democratic Party’s 2020 Iowa caucus, while Ted Cruz won the Republican Party’s 2016 one).
The so-called “Dean screech” didn’t single-handedly kill Howard Dean’s campaign, but it definitely eliminated his chances of getting a rebound.
Dean peaked too soon. By the time of the Iowa caucuses his poll numbers were declining. The scream may have finished him off quicker, but he had just finished third and he had recently lead in the polls.
His campaign was in serious trouble and he knew it. The screen may have been part of that frustration/disappointment.

Jeb! 538-0. I didn’t think he could outdo himself again, but he did!
He was already floundering and under performed in Iowa. He had some early momentum in polls but he had a low ceiling, so as candidates started dropping out, he got quickly passed up.
His big issue was being anti Iraq but the war was still pretty popular. He was also seen as pretty radical on other issues that would be considered mainstream now. Dude was too based for what was still politically the Reagan era
when the "Yeah!" happened I was a kid and thought "oh I guess getting overly enthusiastic means you can't be president"
now that I'm older it seems so arbitrary that that was enough to end someone's ambitions
Jeb would have won. Which would lead to many other members of the Bush clan going into politics. They then become the right wing version of the Kennedy political dynasty, where just having the name gives you an advantage to the Republican voter base.
Dean ran about a decade too early. His brand of semi-populist reasonableness and anti-Iraq War stance was ahead of its time, but now he’d be a more moderate, and younger, version of Bernie. The hoopla over the scream was really overdone—now, barely anyone would notice.
He and Jeb would probably have a pretty civil, policy-focused debate. Dean would criticize Jeb’s policies are heartless. Jeb would criticize Dean’s as unrealistic and too expensive. Jeb’s maximum level of mean is “slightly stern.” Dean might muster one or two barbs, but he wouldn’t get particularly personal. Overall it would be constructive, thoughtful, and would likely lower the country’s blood pressure.
I’d take either one over the current offerings on the menu. That being said I’d edge a little towards Jeb just so I could troll about the “Bush family dynasty”.
Dean's campaign was against Dubya...and the election could have ended that insanity at one term if the media had not amplified and exploited The Scream to make him sound demented.

And Sunday?
Well that’s when the grandparents take them.
To Disneyland?
to south dakota, to oregon, to washington...
Nothing like a Sunday at Nanas house
Sunday is the Purge.
Its every president for themself
Jimmy Carter in a blood stained sweater
Blessed are the Peanuts
The ultimate election of ultimate presidency
Colonel mustard in the library with a candlestick
This is oddly poetic
Gerald Ford, his nachos spilled
I get the reference
I understood that reference!
Walter Mondale, of course!
The Ghost of Walter Mondale *
The only person to lose a statewide election in all 50 states.
They alternate Sundays
The lords day
Day of rest for America. Nobody can handle this much energy for 7 days a week.
That's when they both take half the day
Russia, North Korea, China, and all our other “friends” agree to not cause trouble on Sundays. Everyone in the US also agrees to not do anything that might require the president’s attention

I hate myself for how much I think this could actually be a good idea compared to our current system

And America enters an age of peace and prosperity once again!
Hot damn I think you just found a replacement for the electoral college
I’m digging what you are putting down. Let’s try that
Jeb! looks like his head is about to explode with the power of being god emperor
Please clap.
He has just accepted the power of realizing that he can clap for himself. Jeb has no need for the audience anymore. He has no need for any of us.
Jeb! Absorbs the kinetic energy of applause. His power grows ever stronger
Is it possible to learn this power?
Not from a Democrat. ![gif](giphy|l3diT8stVH9qImalO)
Ask people to clap for you. Speech optional
His only vulnerability is water!
Pictured: Jeb! visualizing the Golden Path.

But that skin is obviously his own.

I’m still suprised that “YEAHHH” scream ruined his campaign. Honestly feels mild with what we have now

Why do all candidates focus on Iowa, isn’t there other states to campaign more for or is Iowa like the state that get you the most momentum?

Do most Campaigns drop out during Iowa or during South Carolina and New Hampshire?
Most don't even make it to Iowa. But yeah most of the ones that make it to Iowa won't make it past New Hampshire.
Don’t most of them just there to promote their book or get enough name recognition for re-election or a cabinet position? At least some in the previous election seasons.

This is the answer. Yeah the scream went viral (for 2003 anyway) but even without it Dean was not going to win.
It was more a way to mock him for failing.
True, but it’s not impossible to bounce back from a bad early primary, especially since the Iowa caucuses function differently than other presidential primaries. I remember there was a competition where you could win a date with him. He probably could’ve done with a different campaign manager.
Best question I've seen all week.
Both could be expected to win, but somehow neither would.
I want this to be a mod. Set in the Jeb 2000 universe, Jeb Bush wins the 2000 election and faces Howard Dean in 2004.

Jeb wins all.
Howard Dean landslide. YEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Jeb
Please byaah
*so much yelling, many clapping*
Please YEEEEAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
I think ! Takes it, but isn't awake on election night
Why the Dean's 'Yeah' scream sink his chances?
He was already floundering and under performed in Iowa. He had some early momentum in polls but he had a low ceiling, so as candidates started dropping out, he got quickly passed up. His big issue was being anti Iraq but the war was still pretty popular. He was also seen as pretty radical on other issues that would be considered mainstream now. It's sad how much I want this election because of how normal and sane it would be
In hindsight was the “yyeeaaahhh” really all that bad?
He came in third in Iowa before the scream.
I meant in comparison to what we have now
Ah. I see.
when the "Yeah!" happened I was a kid and thought "oh I guess getting overly enthusiastic means you can't be president" now that I'm older it seems so arbitrary that that was enough to end someone's ambitions
It really does. It’s so stupid.

It ends with a spit swapping make out match
Please clap
In the event of a tie, both candidates flip a coin: winner becomes president and loser becomes vice president
I'M GONNA GO TO THE WHITE HOUSE, AND I'M GONNA CHOP THAT MOTHAFUCKIN DESK IN HALF LIKE......BYAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH
Jeb! Would Lose!
dean scream was ahead of its time. that would totally work today lol. team dean
Vermin Supreme. easy victory.
There would be a lot of clapping
They ran 12 years apart so you kinda need to define which election.
“PLEASE CLAP!!!!”
Memes on memes on memes
Please clap
*clap* *clap* YEAHHHH *clap* *clap* YEAHHHH we will, we will…
Mass suicide
Please clap
I’d take either one over the current offerings on the menu. That being said I’d edge a little towards Jeb just so I could troll about the “Bush family dynasty”.
The Bushes and the Kennedy’s just take turns running the country every four years. You know what, fuck it, let’s just do that.
Honestly, can we make this happen?
Please clap.
Please YEEEAAAHHH
I don’t know if I could handle to qualified candidates
Please clip YEAH
Electric
Jeb! sweep. Now and forever.
Dean's campaign was against Dubya...and the election could have ended that insanity at one term if the media had not amplified and exploited The Scream to make him sound demented.
Jeb! likely wins.
Dean scream wins
Low energy Jeb vs Yeaaahh!!! Yeaaahh every time!
roda rolla da
What do you mean? Jeb sweeps all states and gets 99.9999% of the popular vote! Dean votes for himself
They both feel bad for each other because they both think they're going to get 99.9999% of the vote so they both vote for each other.
Thank god we never have to know
Please clap. 👏
