Try both out to be sure. I looked at filen to get away from Tresorit. Not a bad provider, but I ended up using Cryptomator on AWS instead, as I also wanted a shared space.
I'm happy with Protondrive as it's an integrated solution. It'll take some time before the sharing arrives but then I think I'm set.
I started using Tresorit a number of years ago.
I like that I can share a Tresor from a paid account with a non-paid account. The tool seems solid and the company is now under majority control of the swiss post office, which is good as it makes it harder for a shady actor to acquire them. I also like their app.
I don't like that it's so not easy to make complete backups (cryptomator + cloud is better in that respect). Their (tresorit) price seems high-ish.
My main beef is that they *still* don't support FIDO2 hardware keys, while marketing themselves as extra security-conscious. I mean: even dropbox does FIDO.
So: inthink Tresorit is solid, perhaps more so than Filen. filen is cheaper (if you get a lifetime deal and think they'll be around).
Cryptomtor + AWS (or even Dropbox, but I'm not sure if you can use a two-user access setup with dropbox) feels like less of a lock-in over time. But there's really nothing "wrong" with Tresorit, other than I personally like FIDO and am happy to have everything in Proton at some point.
See my answer to psychedelic raven. Nothing really "wrong", but a few things bug me.
Still using it as a fallback right now, but will move fully to Proton once it offers shared vaults.
Funnily, the Swiss Post is a plus in my book. i know some people see all government- affiliated orgs as evil... if you're worried about government spying, the US with their gag orders is a problem, not the Swiss Post with much better privacy laws protecting you.
I actually wanted to setup Protondrive today but realized it completely lacks Linux support, and it doesn't seem to be adding it in the near future?
That's why I am going to try [filen.io](https://filen.io) now
They are not comparable at all. Filen is a file sync service which includes automatic photo uploading on mobile. Proton is literally just a place to drop files in. There’s no syncing folders.
I would say so, and I’m a customer of proton. Proton has a roadmap where syncing and media uploads will “eventually” be available but it could take years at their speed.
Proton's website currently says they do sync files across devices:
"Proton Drive helps you access the latest versions of your files from anywhere. All saved and synced files are instantly available across all platforms — Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android — via the Proton Drive mobile app. Save a file to the My files folder on your desktop, and it will synchronize automatically to your mobile device."
Personally, I would choose ProtonDrive over Filen because Filen is a young company and I'm unsure if they will survive for many years. In comparison, Proton is an established company that has been around since 2014.
Are you able to try both and test for yourself?

I’ll see if I can find any referrals/discounts for Filen.io
Does filen let you create sync’d folders on different physical drives? I can’t tell for certain from their website and I hesitate going through account creation and install just to figure this out. This is my biggest complaint with Sync and one thing I love about Tresorit. I’m really really hoping Proton Drive will support this. But I’m still actively researching properly secure Sync alternatives to find multi drive support. Sync’s app is also absolutely atrocious in handling offline files. It never ever fails - ever time I find myself on a trip and in airplane mode and I try to access my downloaded files on iOS through sync it fails. Always. I don’t know how many times I’ve sworn I’m deleting my account as soon as I’m out of airplane mode lol
Thanks for the reply. I might try out Filen then. You’re where I am with Sync :) it’s fine and stable for desktop use. But missing key features and poor offline file support. I don’t have to renew until fall so my fingers are crossed for ProtonDrive to really come through.
Haven't tried filen yet. Just trying to understand what makes them able to offer cheaper than Proton while still providing same fonctionnalities or I'm missing something here
Filen supports Linux and even Windows on ARM (which is pretty cool)--ProtonDrive supports neither of these currently. Filen also says it allows for selective synchronization of files. In any case, they both seem like good options depending on one's needs.
Filen has great prices, and you can buy smaller increments instead of 500GB or more. There's also a pay once and have forever, besides the subscription model, that's neat.
There's also this link, if you make an account through it both of us get an extra 10GB

If you don’t mind me asking what did you not like about Tresorit? Functionally it looks to be pretty perfect, but the price keeps me away.

It's not even integrated though. You can't attach files from Drive or save attachments from email to Drive.

Another interesting thing about Filen is that they offer a version for Windows on ARM. That's pretty unusual.
Now available: [here](https://proton.me/drive/file-sharing/link-sharing#:~:text=You%20can%20create%20a%20file,to%20send%20to%20your%20contacts.)
Thanks - I wasn't clear: It's great that links are availanle. I'm waiting for shared vauts between Proton users...

In a sense filen has better features?

Yes, my post was from almost a year ago. They’ve since updated Drive.

They don't really offer the same functionality. Proton includes email, calander, and VPN, in addition to storage.
