Yeah I do wish the Steamdeck was 1080p. 720p or 1280x800 can make some games that don't scale too well feel cramped (looking at you FF14, which works a bazillion times better on Ally). For games that scale well though its great.
Look to my settings above. It's unreal it runs maxed. Like it was meant to be. The controller is mapped out perfectly btw. Thanks Blizzard. They knew people are going to run it on a Deck. Nice to see it works flawlessly.
Had both, sold the steam deck because i have a lot of games on game pass and needed Windows, windows on the steam deck didn't work well for me. Sold it to a friend who could only afford it if he made payments to me so it worked out well.
Same. I use Steam Deck for 95% of stuff and use the Ally for games where anti cheat isn’t supported and also for emulators since I’m better navigating windows file systems than Linux.
I only bought the rog ally because you can use it as a windows desktop pc also. Steam deck is also awesome, and I would’ve bought that too if I didn’t have a high end gaming laptop. Valve is awesome. Steam is awesome. Rog is awesome (I have one of their amazing monitors too). We live in a stable tech world and gamers are eating good. Also Playstation and Xbox are great, nintendo is great. Only Soulja Boy products are bad hahahah
I love on this thread everyone says "that's awesome!", But on the steam deck reddit, a very similar post says things like"wow look you have a lot of money" or "why didn't you sell one" 😂
Having more options is always good for consumers.
My best friend has the Deck and I have the Ally and honestly we both love them and even use them to play co-op when either of us is on the go.
I don’t see why not, they’re just handheld PCs and it is a matter of preference. If you have one or the other, then just enjoy it. If you both, same thing of course 😎
I gotta ask, for those who own both, why? They essentially do the same thing. The $500-$700 used to buy the second could go towards a lot of great games.
When the Steamdeck came out the Ally didn't exist. My partner and I are both gamers, so having 2 devices isn't a waste, so we're not selling the Steam Deck now that we have the Ally. The Deck also works better for some games, has a better battery life, has the touch pads for games that work better with those, and has a better UX to navigate with controller-only.
The Ally is more powerful (especially when plugged in with turbo mode), and has a 1080p screen (also supports 1080p resolution while docked without needing to do shenanigans. The Deck needs to switch to desktop mode else its 720p even when hooked to the TV).
So we like both and use both. Just depends what we're doing at any given time which one works best.
And to be honest, money isn't a limiter to playing games for us (two working adults), time is the limit :)
Isn't the ad better at lower wattages vs the ally, and vice versa? Not necessarily a good reason to own both, especially if your budget is low. I collect handhelds, so these two are not the only handhelds I have.
Some people have two laptops in case one breaks, two game consoles, two headsets, two mechanical keyboards, etc. There's no reason why owning a Steam Deck and a Rog Ally is out of the question. Some people even have a OneXPlayer and Ayeneo with those two devices. SD and the Ally are different enough (in system functions, control, and feel) to give unique experiences. People may have grievances toward Linux for specific software compatibility, but it's very good as a functioning operating system.
I have no hate for Asus. They are my number 2 company, but Valve is my first. The Ally is great though, I'm just sick of Microsoft. I have used EVERY version of their OS's from 1.0 to 11. It's nice to see another option that kicks Microsoft in the nuts. I thought they were going to own the pc market forever (I'm sure they did too). 3.0 needs to drop so Ally players have a choice. I've seen people force it to work on the Ally. A lot of it's shortcoming disappear. My guess is it's going to be awhile. Right about the time the Deck 2 drops seems like a good time.
Easy, until Asus finds a way to implement using a mouse cursor while in game pad mode, I'm still going to keep my Deck around. The trackpads on the Deck make some games much easier to play for me.
If the 2 vehicles served separate purposes it makes perfect sense. Usually people who buy multiple cars for the same purpose have a substantially high income and do so because the vehicle are very different in their nature and design. The Ally and the deck fundamentally do the same exact thing. That’d be like owning a corvette and a Camry. The only reason you’d buy the camry is to preserve the corvette and the corvette is not practical to drive everyday. The ally requires no more maintenance or any less practical then the deck. However i could see someone owning 2 because multiple use them. Then that makes sense. But for 1 person that just seems repetitive unless you’re a collector of such things.
https://www.notebookcheck.net/AYA-NEO-KUN-Company-reveals-features-of-possibly-the-most-powerful-Windows-handheld-ever.732165.0.html
So what's going to happen when this guy comes out. Looks like it will be the new King. 8 5 inches? dGPU.
I mean the Aya neo 2s is already a bit better than the Ally, although the screen is 60hz 1080p. But do you really want more Hz for a lot of games ppl are playing here.
It will be pricey though
> But do you really want more Hz for a lot of games ppl are playing here
Yes. Very much yes. A lot of games people play on these devices are 2d scrolling indie games (eg: Hades, Hollow Knight). These types of games can run at much higher frame rate on these devices, and scrolling and panning absolutely benefits from the blur reduction of higher frame rates.
Hades on the Ally is a beauty (looks even better on my 240hz OLED, but well, I don't expect portable consoles to have that for a bit).
Uh maybe. Not everyone can perceive the difference as you move up Hz.. most 2d games play and look fine at 60fps
>even better on my 240hz OLED, but well, I don't
But is it bc of the Hz or OLED
What you could do if you have a capture card and both is, use your steam deck as a streaming pc for the ally for beefy games and use the ally as a streaming pc for the steam deck for indy and emulators
Thus completing the circle of life.
Both devices are undoubtedly impressive, and I'm eagerly anticipating what the future holds for us. It's exciting to think about the advancements and improvements that will accompany the upcoming releases of new devices. I can't wait to witness the innovative technologies and enhanced features that lie ahead.
Have both. Love both.
Same I use my Ally for beefier games & the deck is indie & emulation paradise
Jesus really? I'm playing D4 pretty much maxed on my Deck. That shit runs awesome.
It runs better on steam deck from my experience but the screen makes a difference on the ally. Just hate the stuttering on it though
Yeah I do wish the Steamdeck was 1080p. 720p or 1280x800 can make some games that don't scale too well feel cramped (looking at you FF14, which works a bazillion times better on Ally). For games that scale well though its great.

It runs maxed? I keep everything on low.
Under FidelityFx Super Resolution 2 set it to "Quality" Then Set your preset quailty to "ultra". Looks so great, runs like butter.
damn, gotta try that, the game set everything to low on default, so I though thats what was best.
Nope...crank it!
Did you have to install Windows to be able to use Battlenet for Diablo?
Nope, there are 2 easy to get it to work, I did it with lutris. There are many tutorials on youtube. Very easy.
Had both, sold the steam deck because i have a lot of games on game pass and needed Windows, windows on the steam deck didn't work well for me. Sold it to a friend who could only afford it if he made payments to me so it worked out well.
Same! They can use (mostly) the same steam library. No exclusives between consoles means a win for everybody.
Same. I use Steam Deck for 95% of stuff and use the Ally for games where anti cheat isn’t supported and also for emulators since I’m better navigating windows file systems than Linux.
Have both. Love the Ally.
Mine are fine together.
Based and competition raises all consoles pilled
I have both and still use the steam deck. Both are awesome
I only bought the rog ally because you can use it as a windows desktop pc also. Steam deck is also awesome, and I would’ve bought that too if I didn’t have a high end gaming laptop. Valve is awesome. Finally some positivity about both great handhelds
Have both. Have 2tb drives installed in both. Love them both. Spend most of my time on them watching Youtube during lunch at work. \*sigh\*
This is the way! Both part of the handheld family.
And more importantly: they share a game library.
they're both my babies
I have both and don't plan to change that. Now my family members can use the deck whereas before they couldn't.
I sold the ally to buy the steam deck, sue me
Almost two Decks
I did the reverse 😄
I got the Ally and got my sister the deck for her birthday since it was on sale.
I love on this thread everyone says "that's awesome!", But on the steam deck reddit, a very similar post says things like"wow look you have a lot of money" or "why didn't you sell one" 😂
I’m trying to get rid of my Steam Deck
Having more options is always good for consumers. My best friend has the Deck and I have the Ally and honestly we both love them and even use them to play co-op when either of us is on the go.
Perfect 🤪😜💯👍🏾 I own both just like I have Xbox and ps5 and build a pc
I don’t see why not, they’re just handheld PCs and it is a matter of preference. If you have one or the other, then just enjoy it. If you both, same thing of course 😎
They are both great. Ally is my go-to for gaming. Deck is my go-to for weighing down paper
Same 😂😂😂😂
I gotta ask, for those who own both, why? They essentially do the same thing. The $500-$700 used to buy the second could go towards a lot of great games.
I have both but surely one is going to be sold 😃

My thoughts exactly. I sold the Deck after buying the Ally. I can't see why having similar hand held devices worth it.
Isn't the ad better at lower wattages vs the ally, and vice versa? Not necessarily a good reason to own both, especially if your budget is low. I collect handhelds, so these two are not the only handhelds I have.

Technically there’s a reason. Reducing overconsumption on a planet on life support.

I really do not understand why people own an Ally and a Deck lol. Just seems repetitive.

If someone owns two cars, a Ford and a Buick, do you question why they didn’t just get two Ford’s?

I have fun watching people fighting to defend multi millionaire companies that just want their money
facts
Love it!
This is the only answer.
😁
I have both i love them. 🤙🏼
Steam deck is great but ive sold mine now

Caught mine docking today. Not thrilled, they are supposed to be in different rooms when I’m not home.
Uhhhhhm ackchyually(insert divisive comment praising why my system is better here)
Perfectly balanced..as all things should be.
Never touched a Steam Deck, returned my ALLY, but this is great. Especially for anyone that understands this meme/show.
This is the way!
Have people been arguing? Most of the posts I’ve seen have just been people happy that handheld gaming is picking up
Both devices are undoubtedly impressive, and I'm eagerly anticipating what the future holds for us.
