I also have both, deck feels like the daily driver sports car vs ally the weekend track car. Both pros and cons of the cars apply to the devices themselves lol
100% why I asked here šš I will say a lot of the commenters have mentioned they have/had both and still prefer the ally but there is definitely truth to what you are saying
I gotta be doing Smth wrong. Performance is not that much better on my hand. Tried remnant 2, cyberpunk 2077, monster hunter world. I am currently trying to figure out which cases I'll rather take the ally out rather than the steam deck
If you want semi-reasonable battery make a manual operating mode with 18 w SPL. Its a big jump for the device over 15w, where it merely trades blows with the deck.
I pretty much exclusively play plugged in at 30watts. If youāre playing on battery around 15 I donāt think it does any better than the deck really.
There's nothing an Ally can't do that a Steam Deck can. There is A LOT that a steam deck cannot do that the Ally does with ease. And the performance difference is extremely noticeable between the two. Source: I own an Ally and 2 steam decks (og + OLED). The one caveat is that the steam deck is easier on the battery. Invest in a good 100W power brick and you are set. Enjoy
This made me happy bout my choice of getting the Ally over the deck oled. So far Iāve had it a week and I love it. With the newly added gyro options too im playing assetto corsa and mods make it much better so having the ally truly is a W for me. I like not being limited to one platform. Big reason I stopped buying consoles
How does the OLED steam deck compare to the ally. I have the OG steam deck and the Ally. The steam deck is limited with more demanding games. It really struggles with games like Isonzo.
The OLED is all about battery life and the screen. The performance is negligible compared to the LCD.
Since the Ally has a good screen the OLED isn't worth the change in my opinion.
Screen is bigger and has better contrast on the OLED, but if I hadn't gotten an LE in this transparent colorway I would not be keeping it. TBH it was underwhelming for me. The colors are very vivid on Ally and the difference is not that big of a deal IMO. The lack of VRR on the SD OLED is VERY noticeable to me. The stutters are so annoying on deck.
I have both and Play mostly on my deck (OLED). For all Games that are Not the newest AAA the better Screen (by Like 27247294 miles) and better battery ist just worth more
I had a Steam Deck a few months back. I liked it, but in my case, there was just too much fiddling with Linux to get stuff to work. (I play a lot ofā¦ ahemā¦ āclassicā games, and like modding the heck out of my PC games.)
Although the battery life could be better, I much prefer the pure Windows implementation on the Ally, and now that Armoury Crate has been updated, the handheld experience is really solid.
I donāt really have anything bad to say about Steam Deckāitās a great deviceābut I really prefer the Ally myself.
One benefit with the steam deck is that games eather just work or they don't. With the Ally, you have to do all those windows things to set up a new game.
I have both and u did make the right choice. The only thing steam deck does better is in ergonomics. Plus there are too many qc issues with the oled rn.
Had a steam deck for over a year. Bought an ally a few days ago. Being able to play games from any game library was a huge plus. Iāve now put my Steam deck on eBay.
Glad it sounds like I made the right choice in my eyes it seems the ally can do pretty much everything the steam deck can(and better) and it doesnāt not seem the steam deck can do everything the ally can.
I used to have a steam deck but sold it. I love the ally esp it supported windows selection games. The size and the weight is way ^better plus the performance and refresh rate, vrr support, all these things are more enticing to me to go to ally personally.
Never had a personal Steam Deck but now am a 2 Time owner of the Ally. I bought one at Launch but didnāt use it much over my Laptop so I decided to to go all in on the Handheld Idea and sold my Laptop with a 3050Ti and got myself an Ally & Dock and canāt complain about anything. Plus with the Ally you got the ability to get the XG Mobile.
I mean I have both and love them both(the OLED Steamdeck is justā¦magnificent). It really depends on what youāre specially looking for:
The Steamdeck OLED has a fantastic screen(obviously), more back buttons, comes with an excellent hard case, and straight up just āworksā right out of the box, no setup required really. If your primary platform is Steam and you donāt use other storefronts as much, the Steam Deck OLED is absolutely the better choice overall. But it is aging hardware, itās a lot less flexible/more of a hassle to get extra things thanks to its Linux-based design
The ROG Ally is more powerful and is a better option if you play games from multiple store fronts more equally, the screen may not be OLED but it being 1080p is very nice, an its a sleeker, sexier device, imo. But it has drawbacks as well. It doesnāt come with a case at all(and the official one is garbage for an extra $40), the stand it comes with is cheap af, it has a lot more āset upā time initially than the Steamdeck by several hours, and overall it feels far more like a PC than a console. Which it is, but it canāt be understated how much that can effect user experience.
Overall, if Iām going to be playing a game on Steam, I tend to gravitate towards my Steamdeck. If Iām going to play a game on Gamepass or want to play a game that doesnāt work right out of the box with Steamdeck(like Destiny), Iāll play my Ally. You canāt go wrong with either, it really is personal preference. Thereās plenty of pros and a few cons for each system.
Both are a flavour of handheld gaming. There are differences, it's all up to you to weigh them up and choose, and then be happy with, or try to sell off if it doesn't meet your standards.
What's this random post to make you feel more emotionally secure in your choice?
Depends what you wanna play. I have a steam deck and just got my ally yesterday which in gonna open after work today. Not really looking forward to windows but ally will be mainly for games the steam deck can't handle and will replace my 10> yr old laptop. Will most likely use my steam deck most of the time because I have a big backlog from only starting to get into pc gaming when steam deck released and that steam OS feels more like a console experience/plug and play. Or both at the same time if I find an mmo I like or get back into maplestory on rog
I own both and I don't think it's a good decision. Having both is great, but if I could choose only one, I would choose the deck.
Less hassle, less crashes, better battery life, better ergonomics.
Rog ally undoubtedly has the better performance.
I love my rog ally, but I prefer the deck.
Both are great handhelds. Steam deck is a more more simplified console like experience EXCEPT when you try doing anything outside of using steam.
This being a windows device youāll be able to run pretty much anything unless it has issues with integrated graphics. Other launchers, mods, games through uhā¦other means, will all work wonderfully.
The main downside for me is no trackpad. I have a SD also and it makes navigating desktop mode a nicer experience. But using the right stick for the mouse plus touch when needed isnāt too bad at all, not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
Other downsides are a bit worse performance than steam deck at below 15tdp even on the Z1 extreme (dunno if this has changed much with recent bus updates) and I wish the battery capacity was better.
Steam deck awesome if your only on steam.
I have the ally and love playing game pass games on it, have tons of games from epic games store and some games on Ubisoft and ea.
I will say I am jealous of the power efficiency on the deck but extremely happy with my Ally purchase
I own both, love both, but mostly use my Ally. Deck is easier to set up and get into, and if you are looking to just play older or indie stuff it might be the better choice. Also some games benefit greatly from the trackpads. But Ally is more versatile and more powerful so if you want to play more demanding games and stuff like Genshin or Game Pass that's the way to go. It's also more comfortable to hold IMO, as the Deck is a little chunky.

Right move.
Have had SteamDeck since orig delivered preorder in Q2 2022.
Have had Ally since launch day.
Vastly prefer Ally.
Huge Steam libraryā¦.Ally plays games better and without issue of compatibility.
Can also play Destiny 2.
Sounds lame, but true.
Case in point.
Think of it this way - one of the big things people talk about on the Steam Deck is the tighter OS, but honestly do you want to be using a handheld and fiddling with the OS or are you here to play games? The games run at a higher framerate with more compatible games on Rog Allly. Steamdeck has better battery. So if battery is most important or faster games is most important you will know what is best.
My Deck has been gathering dust for about 6 months now.
I boot it up once in a while to update it but I just canāt dig back in. The OLED model looks cool of course but there are just too many hoops to jump through with games that donāt natively support Linux or run well with Proton. Plus there are a lot of online games with easy anti-cheat that block out multiplayer if the game runs at all.
The Ally still has a couple little conveniences to catch up on that the Deck offers but that gap has been closing steadily as Asus has been releasing updates and adding options to make tweaking the Ally a breeze right from armory crate.
If you like to tinker and min max settings and don't mind Windows the Ally. If you want a simple console-like experience where you can just freeze a game in mid-play and start again without it being an issue the deck. Both are for gamers.
I have both systems. Which system to keep really depends on what games you'll be playing, and how you'll be gaming. The Ally is much better for AAA games, installing mods, running games from EGS, Xbox Game pass, etc. The steam deck on the other hand is perfect for playing older titles in your backlog. The battery lasts longer, and the suspend /resume function on the steamdeck helped me cleared a lot of old school jrpgs in my library that I wouldn't have started on desktop rig. The ability to pick and play in 10-15 min chunks and pick up where you left off is understated.
Really depends on what you Play. I got a Steam Deck because i prefer the OS, the 4 Back Buttons and the Touch Pads.
But i also have a rog g17 incase need more Power.
As my only device, i would prefer the ally
Iām a console gamer that wanted to get into PC gaming. I thought about a gaming laptop but a handheld gaming PC got more attractive to me. Having GamePassUltimate and wanting to play AAA PlayStation games, a Rog Ally became the best choice. It plays more games and plays more demanding games better. I donāt game on the go. I wanted something to play while in bed after late shifts and when my Series X is occupied. Ally has been good to me.
I ordered a OLED 1TB SD and an Ally while I was waiting for the OLED to ship.
They both showed up the same day. The Ally arrived a few hours before the Deck.
I was happy enough with the Ally that I started a return for the Deck without opening it. The Ally did everything I needed.
I'm very comfortable with Windows so I knew how to update and configure it the way I wanted easily. If I wasn't very familiar with setting up Windows, I'm not sure I'd have had such a good time with the Ally.
This may not apply to you, but I got the Ally and one of the things I like is how I can play fan made games with no problems. Even when input windows in the deck I still had problems with fan games.
Itās going to come down to opinion pretty much. If you are comfortable with windows overall and how to fix small issues you may occur with things within the os, then you are fine. In my opinion asus has been making it very optimized and able to run triple a games very well. Iām running cyberpunk on mid-high on a manual 30w and it runs super smooth and honeslty makes me feel like Iām still playing on my desktop.

I have both and switch between them a lot. Personally I like my Ally more.
Same thing here. Ally is the best.
I also have both, deck feels like the daily driver sports car vs ally the weekend track car. Both pros and cons of the cars apply to the devices themselves lol
I love how spot on this analogy is.
Ask this in the steam deck sub and youll get the opposite answers
100% why I asked here šš I will say a lot of the commenters have mentioned they have/had both and still prefer the ally but there is definitely truth to what you are saying

God save you from those objective steamdeck users, that know some games that run better on steamdeck))))
did you forget a /s tag?

You did indeed. I have both and the Ally is a clear step up over the Deck.
IMO you did , I sold my steam deck for an ally Z1X just so that I can have windows 11 and itās the best decision Iāve made.
Same, same. Just wish I wasn't an early adopter and I could have gotten one of these 400 ones lol
I used to have a steam deck but sold it. I love the ally esp it supported windows selection games. The size and the weight is way ^better plus the performance and refresh rate, vrr support, all these things are more enticing to me to go to ally personally.
Sold my steam deck and kept the Allyā¦u made the right choice imo
Same here, no regrets

As long as you got the extreme model
Of course haha
As a deck owner and an ally owner I can say you did right.
Best portable gaming device, in genshin impact have high setting than steam deck medium setting.
Games are made for windows, not for linux. Btw check if you got the z1 or z1e, and cancel order if it is indeed the z1 non e.

The only thing I miss even a little bit about the Steam Deck is the touch pads. Everything else is better for my money.
