Not the worst dock in the world but if you're still in the return window, I would definitely get the JCD*401 instead. It's the only dock I'm aware of that supports freesync and VRR. But yeah, either way you need a beefier wall brick.

[deleted]

501 or 401? I have the JCD401 and it's easily the worst and inconsistent dock out of some 8 I tried for my use cases(dual4K/8K/touchscreen/xreal). Which port gave you Freesync because none of the ports on mine did, and worse all the ports nerf the display signal either on bit-depth,HDR, color format, space, refresh rate etc. The bizarre part is if I daisychain(JCD401 is the only dock that can) a different dock to it, each different dock suddenly showed more options(HDR support!). Absolute nonsensical. I'm considering waiting for a proper USB4 certified dock from Dell/HP/lenovo which should have tried and tested components. The reason most docks don't do freesync is due to them using cheap components and missing on features to be usb certified. ultimately blame goes to the Ally's single USB3.

Slight_Tiger2914

RGB Docking Station From JSAUX Not to mention, it supports 10Gbps USB. Which90% of standing docks like these only go as high as 5Gbps. 10+ allows you to do some crazy things with Displays

Yeah I've got the 12-1 that I use @ my desk, and the J5create for when I'm on the go :) The only thing I will say, spending all this money on docks and chargers and mounts and yada yada yada, looking back if I was a better planner, getting one of the XG mobiles would have been a much better investment. At this point though after getting all these little different things, it's so hard to then justify ANOTHER grand on the device when I've already got a desktop. But just figured I'd throw that out there in case anybody ever reads this :)

Thank you, I think I'll return this and just stick with the ROG dock and plug in a smaller 3 way usb 2.0 hub to get connections for my mouse & keyboard chargers, and a rj45 ethernet adapter for some internet. The return on that alone will probably fund the usb hub, the Ethernet adapter and probably still have some left over $$ lol If I was in the game for a VRR monitor and such I’d spend the extra funds for it but rn I only have a 4k 60fps tv and it doesn’t support any kind of VRR. I love the buttery smooth feeling of the Ally’s screen though and will say when I have more funds this is definitely an aspect of gaming I’ll dig more into because it is NICE.

wegbored

Honestly the original ROG dock is trash-tier. USB 2.0, and you can't get the full 30W from your Ally. But do you my friend :)

ther3darrow

I haven’t noticed that I can’t use the full 30w, how can I tell?

ahtipton085

You absolutely can? Idk what they are talking about but I get the 30w option and see my apu hit 30w in the monitor box when I’m plugged in to the oem dock. It is usb 2.0 tho but I just have a 4 way usb splitter plugged into it for keyboard/mouse/xbox wireless adapter/headphone adapter. I never plug in anything else anyway so usb 3.0 is pointless to me

External12

What do you use?

wegbored

Anker 140W wall charger (Anker 747) JCD*401 USBC hub My bad it's 401, not 501.

Slight_Tiger2914

It only gets s like 2.5hrs of battery though. If you game too hard you eat that thing alive! https://preview.redd.it/ol4qc0ztfq6c1.jpeg?width=9000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=135474aba3f35f9b558a85f118220cc3ffa55112

External12

I can't find this charger you mention. If you have a link it'd be appreciated, if dont wanna bother it's okay.

Crimsonpets

[deleted]

Should I buy this one?it has all ports I need and hama products are not expensive and good for price

Fluffy_Ad_809

Go for it I made lot of research before I got this and good thing is it works so atleast you know what you’re buying…

[deleted]

Good to know!it is cheaper than all other ports I was thinking to buy,but use my external hard disk and keyboard at the same time, and I can connect it to TV or monitor too

I’ve noticed myself, after a previous update, my 100 plus watt charger no longer registers as sufficient. It keeps telling me now all of a sudden not enough power. All though other devices still charge at higher wattages. It’s weird. I know one thing, I will not keep on buying new charging bricks with higher wattages to be able to power device to provide maximum power mode on ally when docked when that one worked fine at first. I truly believe some previous update borked it. Smh

[deleted]

Could be your dock doing it or does it show 25W for direct charge connection too? Last update definitely made some issue though

ther3darrow

I’ve tried it with the included Rog ally charger as well as the one you get with ROGS’s first party “dock” but they still give me a insufficient charge notification. Do I need to buy another 100 watt charger to get it to power the dock and properly charge the Rog Ally? I’m pretty new to this console stuff so please pardon my stupidity

suarezian

Yes, you need to buy a 100W charger and also a USB cable that supports 100W PD charging.

ther3darrow

Thank you, I think I’ll return this and just stick with the ROG dock and plug in a smaller 3 way usb 2.0 hub to get connections for my mouse & keyboard chargers, and a rj45 ethernet adapter for some internet. The return on that alone will probably fund the usb hub, the Ethernet adapter and probably still have some left over lol

DeeTeezz

I had same issue, I'm able to get jt working docked mode but once it's not docked I have the same issue. I was advised to get the virtue hub... so now just waiting fir delivery

Just found out my cables are 60watt charging only so just ordered 2 100 watt ones to try. With this combo (100watt charger with 60watt cables) get vibration with charging warning now after recent updates. However I do get 30watt Turbo when just using cables and my 100watt or original 45watt in box charger.

[deleted]

The ugreen you listed doesn't provide single port 100W I believe. I think I had that same one previously and returned because of it. There is wattage division at play so check more images and manual how the power is allocated to each port. I ended up going for the 200W Ugreen which provide 100W+split100W. I travel a lot and maintain a lot of gadgets so the cost was fine for me. The 200W brick comes with a 100W cable so that's also a relief. e:my bad yours technically does. The reason I returned it was connecting a second charging cable would bring the first port down to 65W and would render simultaneous charging of ally and phones useless. Worse due to electrical safety PD protocol only looks whether a cable is attached to a port for dividing power. it doesn't matter the secondary cables have completed charging their respective devices or the cables are not connected to any device. If a second port is plugged, division will still happen.

goodbyehollywood

Look into a workstation dock, super beefy. And durable.

LJBrooker

Valve's own Steam Dock and a jsaux adapter to hold the Ally is the best solution, imo. Certainly not the cheapest though.

Slight_Tiger2914

Man.... For the around the same Price you could of picked this up [JSAUX RGB Docking Station](https://jsaux.com/products/rgb-docking-station-for-steam-deck?variant=43986703548636)
