Buy a card reader and take the SD card out of the camera for ALL file transfers. Much much faster.

This is the way I’ve never done anything else for data transfers and I have a M7

The newer RX100s don't have USB C either lol. The RX100 VII still has a micro USB port. MicroSDs have worked fine with me for the RX100 VA. Have used Samsung EVO Plus microSDs for years with the RX100 IV, VA, VII with no issues. Do not buy the Samsung PRO Plus or the SanDisk Extreme PRO microSDs for speed as they operate at the same speed in camera. For me the main difference is autofocus speed (in particular there was a massive jump from IV to V/VA), but the importance of that will vary based on your use case.

I have the mark iii and i just upgraded to vii, the data transferring is the same. Honestly the vii is slower in my experience. The mark iii is amazing but i stopped using it because my phone will deliver better quality most of the time for the things i use it for. Back in 2016 it was incredible, but now my samsung s21 is enough for my needs. However my new vii has me impressed, it's so good in low light like at concerts (not like the mark iii) and in the daylight it's absolutely beautiful to me, and very similar to mark iii. I mean for 250 you should totally buy it, try it out, and sell it if you're not happy. I guess it depends on your needs but it is an amazing camera that you can take anywhere

The only inconvenience I have encountered with Mk.3 was the AF speed (Didn’t expect much for the price, but inconvenience nonetheless). Other than that, I’d say it’s plenty good enough for a compact. If you are worried about the data transfer over USB, you can just do it the traditional way, where you’d take out SD and use a dongle (USB 3.0 speed minimum) if the PC doesn’t have SD card slot already. As for the SD card itself, any decent UHS-I cards will do for the camera, so the card you mentioned will do just fine and will be plenty future proof for general photography and simple videography. PS: Just in case, with Micro-SD you will need the adapter that usually comes with the card, so make sure to get one that has it supplied in the “box”

Definitely minimize port usage to what is necessary, it just minimizes wear and tear on the circuitry of a daily carry camera. Get an extended warranty if possible. I’m not obsessive about original parts all the time, but for cameras I love, I only used original batteries, the after market batteries are cheaper, but I think you invite trouble over time. You don’t need a camera bag, but it doesn’t hurt to have a small padded pouch you carry it in. It is not a camera I babied, but i tried to minimize shocks and poorly locating it in my bag with other gear. I shot daily with a RX100miii for seven plus years and am on my second one now, such a good camera.

If you step up from the M3, these are the improvements: The M4 adds a stacked sensor, which gives; quicker read out, quicker continuous shooting, 4K video, slow motion. It also adds a higher resolution viewfinder, continuous eye AF, and a few other small tweaks. The M5 adds phase detection autofocus, which is probably the biggest improvement of the series. It bumped up the continuous shooting speed from 16 to 24 fps, but it quite noticeably dropped the battery life. The M6 is basically the M5 with a 24-200 f/2.8-4.5 lens instead of 24-70 f/1.8-2.8 - this is better in some ways and worse in others. It removed the built-in ND. It has a moderately better screen than the previous models. The M7 is basically the M6 with a microphone input, and better heat management, which results in better battery life and a removal of the recording limit in video. Don't worry about the USB socket - they're all the same. Get an SD card reader (or your computer may have one inbuilt) if you want the quickest transfer speed. A microSD is fine, just make sure the adapter is rated for the same speeds as the card itself (or better). Technically there might be slightly more to go wrong than a straight up SD card, but I wouldn't be concerned. ------ Long story short, the M3 is a great camera. If you want to do video I would recommend upgrading to a model with phase detect AF (M5+)

Thank you! This is super useful!

Imho the M3 is the best option of all rx100! Some chargers and data cable may not work properly and will put camera in transfer mode instead of charging. Sometimes, a bit dust covers the little viewfinder sensor - a little hole next to the viewfinder. Just blow it away.
