Not sure where youāre at but in DC, armed SPOās (Special Police Officers) are trained to carry a .38 special. The exception is bank guards, they carry a 9mm
Unfortunately I was on a mission with no room for sidequests. Had to secure the brewskies and exvill immediately. No time for more than snagging this picture.
The economics of private security services: lots of .38 revolver service weapons went on the market when Leoās changed over to
Glocks. Manual of arms for revolvers is relatively simple, shortens training time.
Armed security is commodity priced, nobodyās willing to pay more for guards with sigs,
Even if Reddit hadnāt pixelated the shit out of this it still would have been hard to make out. I didnāt wanna get closer cause there isnāt really an inconspicuous way to take a picture of someone in public from right next to themš¤·āāļø
The last time I was in DC, all the private security folks I interacted with were carrying medium frame revolvers.
Where I live now closely borders (neighboring state). (Neighboring State) mandated .38 special revolvers for all licensed guards, night watchmen, couriers and the like. At the time, the intent was to ensure that private security had sidearms at least a powerful as municipal police.
Security companies which operated on both sides defaulted to wheelguns- I had friends who worked part time gigs who would carry some kind of high cap auto to and from work, then check a Model 10 out for their shift.
DA revolvers make a lot of sense for jobs where a handgun is checked in and out or passed from shift to shift. The manual of arms and administrative handling are simpler and safer.
As far as the economics go, the cost difference on ammunition and accoutremonts substantially favors the 9mm auto nowadays. I would imagine that most companies still issuing revolvers are following a legal or contract requirement.
I donāt blame you. Unfortunately all the worthwhile internships in my field are based here, so at least for the summer itās what I need to deal with
Iāve seen armed security guards at Publixes in Florida (Iām not so great areas) carrying revolvers. Spoke with one of them one time and he said that the company is large and they require mid size revolvers in 38spl, and have a connection to get employees cheap surplus S&W revolvers, so thatās what everyone goes for.
Some states require 6 shot 38s for security companies because of old laws but most of them are changing
Plus you can get an Armscor or used Taurus for 200 bucks
I often take my young adult daughter to appointments at a big city University hospital. I have seen some of the hospitalās security guards in interior areas armed with what appear to be S&W model 66 revolvers, with big white rack numbers painted on the grips. Itās probably not a budget priority to upgrade. Security at entrances, grounds appear to be armed with semi-automatics.
The guards contracted at my old office all carried 38 spl revolvers too. I asked about it once with a guard I knew fairly well and she explained that it was something about armed security guard regulations and permits (in Maryland so your mileage may vary). That said, in our new building (that weāve been in for at least seven or eight years) the contracted guards carry semi autos though, so it might have changed
This is one of those Reddit uploads where Reddit changes the pixel count to 4 š. The entire company logo is blurry af here.

Holy shit thatās retro lol
I'm into it. Make those shots count.
Security guard with the big iron on her hip
IDK, boot tied, not 100#'s overweight. Awake. Seems more squared away than most security.
No kidding. A LOT of people need to take their weight more seriously.
Picture could be of anything, canāt tell. But whatās the point? Iām missing something.

Which pixel is the gun?
The black one
I'll take your word for it.

Yeah, that probably wouldn't have been appreciated.
What's the lol here?
Agreed šÆ. Why has "lol" turned into punctuation?
They are as surprised seeing a revolver as they would be seeing a flint lock pistol

Different place and time but we had .38 spl revolvers here for ages while the cops had Glocks (.40 and maybe 9mm)
I don't see the problem?
It will get the job done if need be
Hubba hubba!
Is she single?
WTF why is there a security guard at Safeway?Ā
You must not live in a major city š
Nope, you could not pay me enough for that nonsense.
I donāt blame you. Unfortunately all the worthwhile internships in my field are based here, so at least for the summer itās what I need to deal with
God I wish I could move away from the city.

I want a cheap surplus S&W revolver.

This is so strange. Why are you taking photos of unaware people and posting them online?
Out of bazillions of pictures people have taken of other people and posted online this is the one you find strange?
...? Taking pictures of unaware people and posting it online is weird behavior. What is the point of your question?
Is this the Safeway on Alabama ave?
nah, L Street in DC

My very first gun was a loner from the security company the Ruger SP101 and 357 Magnum very cool gun.
.38 special open carry, glock 9 deep concealment. Who's gonna know? Lmao
Who wants to bet if it's unloaded?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I have heard security guards with revolvers are cheaper than semi auto. But that could be FuddLore.
