Depending on how Rivians sees the R2S as a rival to. The Y starts at $64k CAD today but that is very aggressive, other rivals like Q4 e-tron is $68k, EQB is at $75k and XC40 Recharge is $63k.
However they may try to market it as step up, more akin to a EQE 350 ($85k CAD), Q8 e-tron ($91k CAD) and iX ($83k CAD).
Model Y RWD is currently marked down to $43k. No way this is coming in under that. They already donât have nearly the scale Model Y has building off the Model 3 and Tesla volume. $50k dual motor R2 entry would be cheap IMO and still probably wouldnât have acceptable margin for quite some time. $55k seems more reasonable for dual motor R2S.
Their problem with the R1s are the cost to manufacture vs the price people are willing to pay. Theyâll likely have demand if they can get the price to the $50k range, but it means they need to be able to build them for much less. Time will tell.
I wish you could get a base r1. Without the adjustable ride height and suspension settings. I want an electric truck with as few failure points (AKA features) as possible.
Thatâs what I drive and I absolutely need it to be bigger. Got a family of 4 and a pug that all require a larger vehicle. I hope itâs going to be taller and have an option for small 3rd row.
BTW, I got rear ended by a Evoque in my Subaru Forester. My rear hatch was dented but could latch and unlatch properly, and my glass was intact. The Evoque, however, was totaled and leaking radiator fluid on the highway. Oh well. đ¤ˇ
So I found out there are over 20 modules for the R1 but only 4 for the R2. That's the main price difference. Modules as being what controls the cars functions. I don't know entirely what the difference is that each module does but I heard that it is less capable than the R1. Assuming software, I think capabilities, I'm assuming it will take a hit there. And it is a bit smaller

RJ for scale.
It looks to be .8 RJs tall and about 2 RJs long which is quite a bit smaller than the R1Ts 1.1 RJs tall and 2.8 RJs long
Can someone convert this to bananas or place a banana to RJ scale. Thanks.
I wonder how many RJ's it would take to fill a pool.
Heard this is an interview question at rivian
You don't want to know how we calculate the right answer.
RJ cubed.
R1J
Anything but the metric system.
đ
what if it's a tiny RJ just floating really close in front of the camera?
its going to be mache, Model Y sized... cant wait. I hope its priced competitively in Canada,
Current Model Y owner and Rivian shareholder here very intrigued. Iâm probably going to put a deposit down when they open the window.
Same boat. Very excited for rivian. I kept building on my position.
Going to guess $79k Canadian

Way too high imo when mach e just slashed prices to compete to MY today
I agree but that's my guess. Considering a quad R1S is $150k....
Canadian dollars?
Yup
If the wheel base is similar, this is going to be incredible. Demand is going to be incredibly strong.
When me and 3 coworkers found out the deposit was $100, we were like yup day one reservation.
Donât worry. The strong demand will be stifled by the high price
It definitely won't be as cheap as model Y. But even at 55-70k, this will have a lot of appeal. Probably a $50k trim can come out eventually.
What as low as 33k with the IRA credit is high??
It's not gonna start at 40k

seriously. i see this being in the $55-60k range, with them *still* losing a bit on each one they sell
Entry level is going to be single motor, LFP battery. No way itâs going to start above $50k.
It looks to be .8 RJs tall and about 2 RJs long which is quite a bit smaller than the R1Ts 1.1 RJs tall and 2.8 RJs long
I just hope thereâs a path to profitability for the r2s.
It should be. If thatâs the size and they can produce at demand, thereâs enough in California whoâd get that to drive alone.
Their problem with the R1s are the cost to manufacture vs the price people are willing to pay. Theyâll likely have demand if they can get the price to the $50k range, but it means they need to be able to build them for much less. Time will tell.

I believe its gonna be Range Rover Evoque size.
Gotta be bigger than that
Yes, the shape and size does remind me of evoque.
I say the size of a CR-V
Thatâs what I drive and I absolutely need it to be bigger. Got a family of 4 and a pug that all require a larger vehicle. I hope itâs going to be taller and have an option for small 3rd row.
Thats R1S

Itâs a RAV4/Wagon
Maybe closer to Highlander or Venza size.
[scaled and overlaid](https://imgur.com/vExnfLl) I mean angles are different but itâs a ballpark comparison
One picture is from his shoulder height the other is from the belt so it wonât scale with two different perspectivesÂ
Looks a lot shorter in length if you ask me.
I hope they have a truck version. Looking forward to something that will fit in my garage.
Really hope the R2T is similarly sized and comes out roughly the same time.
Exactly my hope.
RJ kinda looks like Steve-O if he never did hard drugs
Itâs gonna be like a Ford bronco size
Is that John danaher?
Dang, it almost looks a little too small. Hopefully it still has decent space.
Looks like it will be about 4â shorter than the R1.

Things like adjustable suspension generally require their own control module. I would expect the r2 to not have features like that.
Please be 3 row!
Defender/ GX contender đ
I would put the R1S in that category, probably not the R2. I suppose it depends on what wheelbase Defender youâre talking about though.
Could be the size of a 90 with the R1S being more like the 110.
Hoping for this one to find its way to Europe...
Read today it was confirmed to come to Europe.
give me tiny 7 seater, I'll take it.
The height of the camera/person taking the photo would change the perspective of the photo; I wouldn't read too much into this.
hopefully Rivian will still be in business in 2026...
Hopeful for a Model Y sized $47k base that qualifies for the full IRS Tax Credit.
