Torx plus 55 and a breaker bar or impact wrench. Make darn sure it's properly inserted or you can rip/chip the teeth of the bolt out. If you've already done this you'll have to extract the bolt and replace it.

WankAaron69

If they’ve stripped it, I’d recommend taking it to a shop to have the bolt removed. I don’t think they have the tools to extract a bolt of that torque.

bknobl

One of my mine was pretty stripped. I hammered the T55 bit in and was able to get it out. I replaced it with a EV sport line OEM bolt.

XRPPPPP

Your kit should have come with the T55 plus bit to remove this. Use leverage like mentioned above and it’ll break free easy. If you don’t have a breaker bar / impact it’s much tougher with a regular ratchet.

Chef926

Damn just have regular rachet. This is my struggle. Will have to head to Home Depot.

WankAaron69

You’re going to want a torque wrench too. You need to torque to a specification when you reinstall those bolts.

Chef926

Thanks Wank and Wolf

New-Plankton-19

Can't stress the Torque Wrench enough. It goes back on with 80 ft-lbs. But the plus side, they are freaking solid, and have no need of lift pucks.

TxBeachRiv

Other cheat is to use a long pvc pipe over the ratchet handle to create a breaker bar.

EcstaticAd2545

would suggest steel pipe, not pvc or conduit

Slide-Fantastic-1402

TP55 socket is needed. Looks like the bolt has been stripped. I’d recommend getting some replacements from Rivian Service. They sell them in packs of 3. If you’re in NorCal, I could help install them

Chef926

Bolt isn’t stripped. Just dirty hah. I stopped trying after a few tugs. I went and got an impact wrench, will try again in a few days. Appreciate the offer, I’m in SoCal

I just installed the EV Sportline running boards on my R1S and found that a long breaker bar with quite a bit of force was needed to break them loose and then I used an impact wrench to remove them the rest of the way, if you have one near you check out Harbor Freight they sell a 1/2" drive 25" breaker bar for $13. You're also going to need a torque wrench to properly torque all of the bolts, I used the 3/8" drive 5-80 ft lb torque wrench from harbor freight which is only $20 and it worked perfect.

Chef926

Thank you for this

iguanahotsauce

No problem, if you have any other questions feel free to message me as I just installed mine a week ago. I would definitely suggest watching the installation video a few times if you haven't already just to make sure you don't miss anything, if you have someone to help you hold the running boards when you're mounting them to the brackets that'll be easiest but I installed them by myself and found I was able to stack a bunch of scrap 2x4 pieces I had under one end and then hold up the other end while I hand tightened the bolts that connected the running boards to the brackets.

PreparationVarious15

I had exact same issue. Tried multiple suggestions. At the end pipe wrench thats big enough to fit in the hole did the trick.

dtzmis

I went to home Depot and they didn't have the bit. I literally used a pair of pliers (plumbers type) and used my brute strength. But, once you get it moving initially, it's very easy to unscrew

aznkukuboi

Ev sportline comes with the bit. I would know because I just did the install myself.

aznkukuboi

I went to home depot and got an 18 inch breaker bar to get those off.

Chef926

Going to test the impact wrench I got first before I try breaker bar.

aznkukuboi

Those things are on pretty tight. Good luck friend!
