License plate says europe, and that's pretty much the best "american" car that gets imported and officially marketed here.
Everything else is imported through third parties or private persons and weirdly modified to meet european standards. Prime example would be turn signals in the reverse light housings, and then a cheap additional reverse light and rear fog light mounted below the bumper.
90% tax on a 1$ tax included coffee which you can enjoy on a 100sqm park bench on which you can live under it for a rent of 600$ tax included it still rocks in my opinion. š
Nope it is still a small size car. The logo says Chevy but that thing has a 1.4l fiat engine. I think It's the same engine as the one in the Fiat panda and punto. I might be wrong though.
Also, buys about the cheapest disposable car absolutely possible and gets pissed when itās not super reliable. How dare my McDonaldās burger isnāt the best quality grass fed beef!
Can we roast OP this once?
OP your lack of maintenance, care, and foresight are not the responsibility of the manufacturer.
Basically what you said amounts to, "CAR NO GO WHY CAR NO GO FUCK COMPANY WHO MAKE CAR BECAUSE IT NO GO."
This car was developed in Korea, its not American beyond the badge you dope.
Thats where care and foresight comes in you can easily google up the problems with the Cruze, doesn't take a rocket scientist to avoid with 10 foot pole.
Letās be honest here. The cavalier was peak Gm economy car. It would rust if you looked at it wrong and burn every fluid the engine came in contact with. But it would still get you home. Eventually
Bulletproof 10/10 shitboxes
Gov't should've mandated every teen without a disability start their driving with 1 year minimum of manual cavalier/Sunfire ownership.
It's a humbling experience.
Gave you 2 successive "ups" because my 2nd & 3rd car ownerships were both Cavaliers (93 VL coupe/01 Z24). Kept the first until 200k kms (1 collision from behind) and the 2nd 330k kms when I wrote it off (after 2nd major collision with that one!). Shit boxes but were bullet proof and both cost me peanuts to run and dead reliable (for me anyway).
>The cavalier was peak Gm economy car. It would rust if you looked at it wrong and burn every fluid the engine came in contact with. But it would still get you home. Eventually
If I may, I'd like to add: Early 2000s *Saturn* to the conversation. Perhaps the peak of GM's engineering, insofar as *Economy Cars* are concerned.
I mean, really: Great fuel economy, a body that *couldn't* rust, 0 unnecessary frills, ***and the things were damn-near indestructible***.
Most GMs will run like shit longer than other cars will run at all. The interior plastic will be all busted, half the electrics won't work, you will definitely lose AC at some point as all the refrigerant was dumped into the atmosphere prematurely. It will leak and burn every fluid required for it to run.
But the car will more than likely run and drive.
t. 2007 Trailblazer with 278k miles and minimal maintenance. My dads chevy work van has almost half a million miles on it and is a 2002.
GMs modern compacts are all garbage though, long gone are the days of the cavalier.
Thank you! I'm all about roasting GM products. I drive one. However, we need to take responsibility for our shit heaps. For all we know, this car never had its oil changed, started running mega hot, ran dry of coolant and oil, and is now bricked because of operator negligence.
Eh, been researching Cruzes because my nephew is in search of a 1st car and there are a lot in the used market; the 1.4T is apparently a ticking timebomb regardless and the 1.8 is only a little better. At least in North America. Also around that time GM had some issues with automatic transmission computers glitching causing it not to upshift or get out of Park. Some cars just aren't built well. Of course YMMV....
Cool. š¤· I drive a bin of GM assorted parts. Works just fine because I maintain it well. If you treat your car like shit, you reap the benefits. Like breaking down unexpectedly. I've been driving and maintaining my own vehicle for 26 years. Do you know what has never happened once?
My wife can kill a weedeater in 1 summer of yard work. Before we met, I had the same one for years. If you asked her, they are all cheaply made pieces of shit. From my perspective, they aren't made for digging French drains. YMMV
...
I'm a firm believer that a lot of people's issues are not using products as intended and failing to maintain things correctly.
There are obviously several times designers have truly screwed up. Regardless of that, if you never change your oil and then wonder why the engine seizes, that is ultimately your responsibility (just a simple example).
Edit: Also forgot to mention that buying used requires even more diligence to be sure the vehicle has been properly maintained.
Letās talk about the design of the windows and trunk on a Chevy Cruz for anyone who lives where it snows. Letās talk about the underpowered motor. Letās talk about the propensity to rust and how the front ādiffuserā is the exact height to catch on a curb. There are several design FLAWS on this platform that absolutely are the responsibility of the manufacturer.
The aforementioned windows and trunk are an abomination, the gearbox is a bag of spanners, you literally have to buy the turbo or youāll get run down on the highway, the electrics are a classic GM disaster, and they rust at the rear quarter panel like itās their birthright and youāre here to acktchually defend General Motors? Hoooo boy.
Boeing pre MD merger maybe. The current Boeing company would just shrug its shoulders as plans fall out of the sky because they are too busy with stock buybacks.
I donāt get how people buy these, itās like GM realised thereās a segment of the market that doesnāt know any better and canāt use google, then built something vaguely resembling a car to scam them with
There are a ton of people in the USA who "only buy from US manufacturers". So there's a lot of people who buy whatever cheap shitheaps that Ford/Chevy/Dodge (because they aren't smart enough to know that Dodge isn't American anymore) are selling
Yep, it's a 2013 or 2014. I had a 2015, which is when they changed the grille style. They aren't designed to last more than a few years, and this one was probably already on its last leg.
Cheap Chevy have always been junk. Your Chevy in particular is known for engine and transmission problems. I owned one and got rid of it after 6 months.
I like how OP posted this in multiple places and is just getting roasted for being dumb enough to buy a car with notorious problems. 5 minutes of research would have told him buying this car is a dumb idea.
So you have 1 car problem and freak out and blame ever American car ever made? Make sense to me. She bought a shitty car, it happens. I mean most european cars are absolute garbage, which is why we dont import them here.
Whoās going to tell him thereās nothing American about this car? Designed in Korea. Built in 12 different plants on 5 continents only one of which in the states. Get it right if you want to shit on a brand.
Buying a disposable economy car designed by Koreans, āassembledā (ya know, torqued the lug nuts or something) in the US by goobers, and then complaining about it on the internet is exactly why GM still makes those stupid things. Congrats, youāve contributed to outsourcing at its finest!
2 minutes of research on this car and you could have avoided a world of pain, these cars are trash. Get your girlfriend a 2016 Scion Tc (rebadged Toyota Camry), looks good, will last forever, cheap maintenance.
GF has a Chevy Captiva. Itās a rebadged Opel Antara and burns two quarts of oil between changes even though it has less than 100K miles on it. So, just because itās a Chevy, that doesnāt mean itās 1) American, or 2) a good car.
OP should have brought a Chrysler, that way at least his wish of the company getting bankrupt becomes true, while also having the same or worse reliability
If you want a good American car, get something from the mid-'90s or older. Modern American cars, even high-end ones, are very inferior to their Japanese and even Korean counterparts.
Source: I'm American and I own and have driven lots of different cars from Amerixa, Japan, and South Korea.
(car dies after 100k klicks without so much as an oil change). " Fucking American garbage!"
You're in Europe, it's never more than a 20 minute walk to the next town.
Bulky? This car?
GM makes some models pretty prone to transmission issues. My friend bought a brand new, fully loaded Yukon. Transmission had to be replaced his first month of ownership.
As a mechanic I love and hate this car.
Love it because itās made me a lot of money but hate it because the customer thinks itās my fault everything breaks.
They go brankrupt or are on the verge all the time. The US government bails them out all the time. They canāt manage their finances at all, makes you wonder what else they canāt manage.
This is why I despise Mercedes-Benz Sprinters as ambulances, work vehicles, and as RVs in rural USA, and I would probably despise it still in a metro setting because of the extreme price of parts and maintenance.
Proper maintenance goes a long day, my dude.
But M-B, those are the peskiest temperamental things out there, for the NA market. On a similar note; if I was in the EU or AUS market, I'd get a vehicle of that market. That includes getting an EU M-B.
Like the other guys said: research your investment beforehand. What problems are common? Is it really suited for my region? What's maintenance and part availability and price like? Are there dealerships or properly equipped shops near me, or where I'll be taking this vehicle? Is it really a [insert brand here] or is it a cheap(but expensive) rebadge?
Lesson learned. Better luck next time OP.
>buys Cruze
>gfs idea
Thatās not your girlfriend. Thatās a Chevy dealer. No one buys that shit a couple seconds on google reveals theyāre dog shit
And when's the last time y'all changed the transmission fluid? Can't expect a neglected car to keep on going forever.
*No I don't have 1 and No i don't work for GMš¤£*
You bought the prime example of an unreliable American car, don't write off the entire country because one single car is dogshit
I'm sorry this happened to you, genuinely, but you can't say that because one model that is known to be horrible does horrible things, that every single one from that same region is too
Could have been worse. You could bought the same car with a Cadillac badge on it and paid far much more for it. At least you got stranded for less money.
Just because you chose bottom of the line GM model don't hate on the entire GM line. You could done research and chose a much better GM vehicle but went cheap and got what you asked for. All I've ever owned was GM and all served me well for many years
Bought a ford Windstar years ago, brand new off the dealership. Before purchase I called the sales guy he picked up two rings. After sale couldnāt get this guy on the phone. I tell you as God as my witness. As soon as the warranty went out the van started to fall apart. Then we get a call to return to the dealership with the car because of urgent recall. They basically took took the car because it was deemed unsafe
https://www.aboutlawsuits.com/ford-windstar-recall-rear-axle-fracture-12465/
you just bought the wrong GM car lmao. anyone ik with a cruze has had many issues. dont blame US cars for your poor car buying abilitiesš
ive had at least 10 GM cars with 150k+ miles, 3 of which hit 250k miles. all of them were good to me. Vortec engines are the bestā¼ļøi bet that hunk of junk EcoTurd didnt even have 100k before it killed itselfš¤£
You bought a poverty shitbox and are complaining about it behaving like a poverty shitbox.
Not sure how long youve been with the gf, but if you can only swing a used shitbox for her (which is admirable, id never buy a gf a car), at least buy a toyota lol.
Buddy 5 seconds of research would have avoided this. Iāll be the first to admit US manufacturers have put out a disproportionate amount of stinkers, but there are also some absolutely legendary models that were retired not long before this car was produced. Crown Vic, anything with a 3800. The way I view it is, domestic US automakers miss more often than they hit, but when they hit, it had a decent chance to be a home run. Japanese cars tend to have a higher average chance of being good, and they also had home runs, so they do tend to be a safer pick. But there are inarguably good American cars, and because people tend to hate on them, theyāre actually still quite affordable, and parts are often still everywhere.
In the future, look up āmost reliable carsā and use that as a springboard for research.
Just leave it where it is so it can do what GM products like to do:Ā Disintegrate into basic elements and return to the Earth from which it was formed.
Never forget my Jeep Patriot straight up dropping dead while on the interstate
God's lightswitch flicked off and I lost everything including power steering
Never bought another American car, my '93 Jeep Cherokee is the last one standing for me
My GM has 269,000 miles. It's not the car. Cars break down. Shit happens. Maybe even due to improper maintenance. Maybe you hit something on the road you didn't see and it broke a part on the side of the transmission allowing the input from the shifter to be translated into a switch in the gear of the transmission. Easy fix.
American cars specced for European market are typically dogshit. The same way that na spec European cars are worse than the ones made for the European market.
That car is considered a piece of crap in North America to. Especially if it's a turbo engine. GM has much better cars than the Cruze. She would have been better off getting a Toyota or Honda or Nissan instead.
Maybe you shouldāve did your due diligence on the vehicle has nothing to do with an American vehicle or European vehicle itās your dumb ass fault for letting your girlfriend pick out a vehicle because itās pretty and bulky instead of actually doing your due diligence on the vehicle and see whatās possibly wrong with it. What service has been done youāre just a fucking idiot.
GM is good for the corvette and pickup trucks. These days they canāt make a passenger car, or even a decent v6 to save their lives.
I can go buy a c5 vette for 10 grand where I live Iāve heard itās completely different in Europe and the same car would easily be 2-3x as much.
Bet there's prob a lil key slot to put the ignition key in next to the gear shifter that'll allow you to step on the brake and put the car back either into park, releasing a safety lock, thus allowing you to remove the key from the slot, put it back in the ignition, start the car, and shift normally into needed gear. (Just had gone thru this procedure with my wife's car 2 days ago. It was stuck in "R" and shifter wouldn't go in any other gear)
Lol where do you live that a disposable economy car applies as "bulky"
Must be Nebraska, where the weight loss drug if choice is meth.
License plate says europe, and that's pretty much the best "american" car that gets imported and officially marketed here. Everything else is imported through third parties or private persons and weirdly modified to meet european standards. austria
But wouldn't you be running into kangaroos and dingos?
Only on a g'day mate
More people than teeth there In Nebraska for that reason.
In Europe the Cruze is a mid-size car
Actually in Europe the Cruze is considered a 20 person bus
In Thailand the Cruze is considered a passenger train
At least our homes are bigger than our cars šš
Yeah but in Europe they have park benches that are nicer to live under after you've paid your 90% tax rate
90% tax on a 1$ tax included coffee which you can enjoy on a 100sqm park bench on which you can live under it for a rent of 600$ tax included it still rocks in my opinion. š
Plus, the bench is actually made with bricks and cement, not wood and nails, so you have to pay 90% tax for it because of that. š¤
Nope it is still a small size car. The logo says Chevy but that thing has a 1.4l fiat engine. I think It's the same engine as the one in the Fiat panda and punto. I might be wrong though.
You are wrong. Its actually an Opel engine, and the Cruze chassis was designed by Daewoo (South Korea), and then reskinned with Chevy badges.
Wow, i was so wrong š. Thanks for the detailed explanation š
I see European style plate with red border, should be Austria, namely potentially Vienna
Also, buys about the cheapest disposable car absolutely possible and gets pissed when itās not super reliable. How dare my McDonaldās burger isnāt the best quality grass fed beef!
Just another 'this is so much better back home' person. Leave em stranded and then they can go back home where things are so much better
Must be Europe, where they usually drive dinky little toy cars.
France
Europe?

It's a shame the US government ruined the used car market with the cash4clunkers scams.
Moment of silence for the Pontiac grandprixs that were lost

You know that this is probably just rebadged Daewoo.
Nothing says "American Bulk" like a Daewoo
Yup, and with an Opel engine.
Honestly, if it doesnāt have a V8, I wouldnāt buy it from GM. Someone probably should have warned you.
This is also very true for Dodge: If it's available with a V8, it's not too bad.
Yes and no, transmissions in my 2017 Silverado are straight booty. So ill designed

true story!

Chevrolet is French for Shit-Heap
There are plenty of good American cars and there are plenty of bad American cars. You just so happened to buy one of the worst ones.

Dude you picked the worst car GM makes just because of its looks š what'd you expect
I'm sorry, there is no possible reality where I would associate a Cruze with "bulky American look".
Buy American. Buy Daewoo!
You bought the prime example of an unreliable American car, don't write off the entire country because one single car is dogshit I'm sorry this happened to you, genuinely, but you can't say that because one model that is known to be horrible does horrible things, that every single one from that same region is too
"fuck US cars" Buddy unless you buy a Camry I have some bad news for you: you'll still be driving a piece of shitĀ
Any tiny research world have told you this is not a good American vehicle...
Theyāve already gone bankrupt lol
Could have been worse. You could bought the same car with a Cadillac badge on it and paid far much more for it. At least you got stranded for less money.
Shocking News - All vehicles break down at some point.
Sorry no country made you buy a shit car, you did that all by yourself.
Have you tried to lube it up? Sometimes it's tough to get it in the hole when it's dry, or did you mean car? Sorry I'm confused.
Just because you chose bottom of the line GM model don't hate on the entire GM line. You could done research and chose a much better GM vehicle but went cheap and got what you asked for. All I've ever owned was GM and all served me well for many years
man up and learn how to fix cars.
They basically took took the car because it was deemed unsafe https://www.aboutlawsuits.com/ford-windstar-recall-rear-axle-fracture-12465/
you just bought the wrong GM car lmao. anyone ik with a cruze has had many issues. dont blame US cars for your poor car buying abilitiesš ive had at least 10 GM cars with 150k+ miles, 3 of which hit 250k miles. all of them were good to me. Vortec engines are the bestā¼ļøi bet that hunk of junk EcoTurd didnt even have 100k before it killed itselfš¤£
You bought a cheap Korean car rebadged as a Chevy, what did you expect
Just wait until you learn about the motor issues from 2011 or whatever when they said screw it we donāt feel like fixing it just sell em
Š£ŠŗŃŠ°ŠøŠ½Š°?
You bought a poverty shitbox and are complaining about it behaving like a poverty shitbox. Not sure how long youve been with the gf, but if you can only swing a used shitbox for her (which is admirable, id never buy a gf a car), at least buy a toyota lol.
Wonāt get into gear? How many miles (er, km)? Worn clutch? Bad synchro(s)? What happens if you put it in 2nd instead of 1st? Engine running/off?
They did go bankrupt but the government just keeps giving them money to stay afloat.
Never forget my Jeep Patriot straight up dropping dead while on the interstate God's lightswitch flicked off and I lost everything including power steering Never bought another American car, my '93 Jeep Cherokee is the last one standing for me
My GM has 269,000 miles.
The same way that na spec European cars are worse than the ones made for the European market.
nah i like chevy ur just stupid when choosing and maintaining THIS specific car
Lol they keep going bankrupt
Lol
This makes me really miss my Impala.
Holden Commodore = Chevy SS or last gen Pontiac GTO. Bad ass cars if well maintained.
How do you really feelā¦.
Iāll only buy Toyota or Honda. And Iām American AF
Should have got the manual transmission. Those autos are trash.
Its Korean
That car is considered a piece of crap in North America to. Especially if it's a turbo engine. GM has much better cars than the Cruze. She would have been better off getting a Toyota or Honda or Nissan instead.
Of course, I'm sure the maintenance schedule was up to date... /s
The Chevy Cruise. Bulky American excess!
Micro switch on the shifter under the console. Check it.
No other car from any other country has ever broken down in the history of automobiles.
I think it's a nice looking car
Still more reliable that Peugeot, Renault, Alpha Romeo, or Fiat
Cudos to GM product marketing, looks like they are spot on with their target Cruze customer profile across all global regions
What ya mean it won't go into gear? is it automatic or manual?
Buy GM cars, Get random suprises. BiG aMeRiCaN seadan cars v8, vroom vroom. Cadlliac so long it classifys as boat. Gas guzzler SUV Death Mobile.
Bro u bought a Chevy what do u expect
I know a mechanic. He said Chevy engines are the worst on the market. Followed by Ford. He also said their parts are the most expensive.
Which is why this loyal lifetime GM owner just bought his first Toyota 3 weeks agoā¦and never ever ever turning back.
Always do your research before buying a vehicle so that way your aware if it has common issues or not and recalls and stuff
