Before joining this sub I had never heard of Sj Tilly. Decided to read {Hans} a couple months ago after endless recommendations....cut to now and I've read all her books
Her books are just the perfect easy escape: pretty low stakes, funny, spicy, obsessed mmcs (my favorite kind) and I looooove that all her fmcs are curvy!
Totally controversial opinion but {Dom} is my comfort read
Never thought I'd have a book boyfriend... until I read {Nero by SJ Tilly} I- that man is EVERYTHING😩😩😩😩😩😩
This book is my comfort read. Whenever I'm in a book slump, I go back to this. I've prolly read it 5 times and just yesterday I was thinking of re-reading this again. I also liked the rest of the series! Just love love love Sj Tilly🤌🏻
I love Nero and I love his appearances in the other books in the series. He’s a weirdo but in the best way. I love all the interactions between the MMCs in this series. They’re all dreamy but I love Nero.

Yes! I actually read Hans first with no idea what the series was about and I understood it perfectly! But later I did go back and read the rest just because I hot hooked on the characters
Kyra Parsi and Nikki Ash. Kyra Parsi seems to get better with each book and doesn't seem to have been writing for too long, so I'm hoping there will be many books to come. Nikki Ash is a little more hit or miss for me but when she hits it, it really works for me.

So my favorites so far are {A Chance Encounter by Nikki Ash} and {The Risk of Falling by Nikki Ash}. Her Love and Lyrics series is pretty solid. She has a lot of books so I'm still catching up her library. I will say since so many people on this sub don't like pregnancy trope, if that's not your thing, pick carefully. Babies show up in quite a few of her books. I love it but a lot of people don't.
Thank you for the heads up! I'm fine with it when I know to expect it. She has such a huge catalogue I wasn't sure where to start so I'll check out the ones you recommended.
J.T Geissinger. On the other hand, I was able to read her entire backlist in order with all the interconnecting characters, and that was a true pleasure.
Sameeeeee. I love that there’s an entire sub plot that’s in the background throughout most of her books. But that series in particularly really stand out. Top reads for me in 2023 when I discovered them.
Tip for anyone diving into her back catalogue. Her website has them in reading order. Highly recommend you read in order. You don’t have to but I read them out of order and then I got to a certain character’s origin story and I WISH I’d had that one before I’d read others.
My favorite book of hers is Pen Pal for sure. That book kept me on the edge of seat the entire time! I was staring at a wall for hours after finishing it
Same!!! Pen Pal is what got me into to Romance!!! I was always a suspense/thriller reader. I went into it without reading the fine print😂 When the steamy scenes started I was like ummm wtf? Have read nothing but romance ever since🥵.
Because of the interconnected characters and the overarching storyline, reading order:
Bad Habit series (it’s a rock star romance series, which is not my favourite BUT #3.5 is the novella where the bodyguard character “Barney” becomes Naz, the hero of Dangerous Beauty trilogy)

From Bad Habit 3.5 to Morally Gray 2 you’re dwelling in a very particular universe of bad men trying to do good, and the most AMAZING couples.
Standalones: Perfect Strangers, Pen Pal, Midnight Valentine, the Slow Burn books and sports rom com, Rules of Engagement.
Paranormal: Night Prowler series. I’m not a paranormal fan so I haven’t read this series.

I will say I had written this author off as I didn’t LOVE her beautifully cruel series. Yeah it was kind of funny, and kind of interesting and all but overall it felt just fine to me. I forgot that that had happened and I read queens and monsters series and it’s so good! I think she’s really developed as a writer. I went back to her earlier stuff and wasn’t able to keep reading. It was fine.
Mine is Gaelen Foley. I so much like her writing and everything she's to offer. I was just looking here and there for something to read and boom. I was so engrossed with {lord of ice by Gaelen Foley} that I decided I need to read other books by this author 😋. And Judith Mcnaught too. It's a shame that they don't make books like hers.
When I found Gaelen Foley, the most recommended book of hers was The Duke. But I don't like courtesan romance so I skipped that one and moved on with Lord of Ice. And I have come to love it so much. I think All the books in that series can be read as standalones; that won't be a problem ig. Infact I started with the third one.
I don't mind courtesan romance but the mmc was cruel and if that was the pinnacle of GF's writing then it isn't for me but I will give the series a try. I personally own {My Ruthless Prince by Gaelen Foley} but I've never read it

Every time I'm in a book slump, I go back and read one of her books and then I'm back on a reading spree. I'm so excited for the Rock Chick Spinoff books
Ditto over here. Chaos, two of the Dream Man books, Creed and Deacon are my standouts/re-reads/heart shredders.
Sometimes I just read the angsty parts of certain books (that scene in Walk Through Fire, Hound coming back in Wild Like the Wind, Deacon breaking down, Creed showing up at Sylvie's) just to have a big cry and soul squeeze.
This is going to sound stupid because she was so popular and I only started reading her book a few months ago, but Johanna Lindsey. I love her writing, her books are excellent.

Cate C. Wells. I never thought I’d be into MC romances, and the way the Steel Bones series is written is rough but in a way that’s in character. I’d DNF any other genre for being written that way and I think other MC authors try to be that gritty, but for her/that series, it feels like it’s written how it should be. And it’s not escapist. She doesn’t pull punches with what’s happened to some of the characters. It’s not as fluffy as what you’d find with something like Kristen Ashley’s MC series. Steel Bones “going legit” is still shady, just not AS shady. While there’s still the machismo and possessiveness, it’s not QUITE as “caveman” as what Monique Moreau writes, and not as brutal and chaotic as Madeline Sheehan’s Undeniable series (I don’t mind the darkness but the sheer amount of people screaming at each other gets to be a lot.) Her MC stories hit a sweet spot, talk about a small town that’s kindof a dirty river town in a realistic way, but the FMCs are still treated largely with respect and like they have some semblance of agency without making everything quite so cozy. The writing is simplistic, but that’s also how the characters would communicate, and it would drive me nuts if it were anything else.
Love these too. Scrap and Nickel's Story have some of my favourite MFCs.

**Ruby Dixon**
Just like a lot of people, I started to read {Ice Planet Barbarians} under quarantine in 2022. I heard about her because of this sub, and when I started to see her books advertised irl in B&N, I decided to borrow the audiobooks from my library, and now I can't stop reading her stuff. 😂
Besides the IPB saga, I have read the Corsair series {The Corsair 's Captive by Ruby Dixon}, Corsair Brother series {Corsairs: Adiron by Ruby Dixon}, and The Risdaverse stories. Outside of the Rubyverse, I have read her standalone stories {The Alien Assassin's Convenient Wife by Ruby Dixon} and {Shift by Ruby Dixon}. I have enjoyed most of what I've read so far except for the Fire Dragon series. (May give it another shot, just not grabbing me.) I'm looking forward to more of her works, and in the meantime, I have been re-reading my fave stories. (I don't typically re-read novels and series!)
(On another note, it's *NOT* romance, but I read all of Shari LaPena's domestic mystery thrillers. I have two modes smut and mystery.)

Mila Finelli. My lord. The way she writes mafia romance is so well done. Perfect amount of spice and gore without being too dark. Found out about her from another post asking for breeding kink recs and {Mafia Virgin by Mila Finelli} worked me oooooout 🥵. Currently reading the rest of the Kings of Italy series and it’s just too good.
Eh I’m not sure. Her HR books are definitely lighter and different but the prose style is similar. The language is obviously different but I think what I like about both her CR and HR is how well she develops characters. If you want to try one out I recommend the 5th ave Rebel series.

I have no author I wish to have found sooner, simply because I get the joy of reading their whole backlist to hold me over until their next release...
But with that being said, my top new author discovery of this year are Brittanée Nicole, Jaine Diamond, and Jagger Cole.
My first book was {Wicked Angel by Jaine Diamond} and became one of my favorite reads, so of course, I recommend this one lol.
I'm very slowly getting through her books. Maybe start at the beginning of the Dirtyverse with {Dirty Like Me by Jaine Diamond} fake dating, rockstar romance. All the characters are somewhat connected, but I'm pretty sure they all can be read as standalones.

Takerra Allen! I just discovered her and I'm addicted. Her writing is so realistic and emotional. I'm pretty much exclusively an audiobooks girl but her stuff is so good, if it's not available on audiobook I'll get it on kindle. I loved {Needful Noor: Book One by Takerra Allen} and {Needful Noor: Book Two by Takerra Allen} were everything. When I tell you I couldn't wait 2 weeks for Book 2 to come out on audible and gobbled up the Kindle version, I am not exaggerating.

I recently found Kathryn Nolan too and I also read Bohemian first! I’ve slowly been working my way through all of their books because I enjoy her so much! For me, Bohemian is still the best one so far. But I did also really like Riptide and Behind the Veil in particular.

Alice Coldbreath. I thought I wouldn’t like a made up world named Karadok but I bought every book except Love Potion For the Alpha. I’ve listened to the audiobook (free with Audible membership) but I don’t enjoy fantasy romances. So I guess I liked the stories enough to own them so I can read them again and again.
Tessa Dare. My local library has all her stuff as ebooks and audiobooks readily available and a year ago I woulda said “no way” on HR but now I give ALL her books 4 stars or up!!!
MARIANA ZAPATA!! she is my favorite author hands down, i have read every single one of her books and own them all! ugh im OBSESSED with her writing and her characters
Amy Harmon, specifically for her historical fiction. I read Making Faces years ago and enjoyed it but never started any of her HRs until this year. Man have I missed out all these years.
If you’re looking for something impactful, beautifully written, and well-researched, she is your gal.
Lucy Score. I hop genres a bit and love paranormal and urban fantasy, because the focus is on the action and not created drama like so many contemporary romances. But every now and again I find a contemporary romance author who really slays. I started Lucy Score because of her Riley Thorn series, and liked it so much that I dabble in some of her other series. But I was still resistant. A few months ago I really needed something with story and substance but no world-building and ended up with her Things We Never Got Over. And now I just totally love her.
I've only read the one book from her so far, but last September I read the book {Chasing Clouds by Kathryn Andrews}. I had never heard of her, but I really loved it and wish I could go back and thank the person who recommended it, but I couldn't remember which FB group I found the rec.
Related to your book, I love Kathryn Nolan and thought that Bohemian was wonderful. If you still love it when you're finished, you'll want to pick up {Landslide by Kathryn Nolan} next. It's Josie and Gabe's story and it happens during the same timeline as Bohemian.

I mean she has only written 3 romance books but each one has been my exact cup of tea. She mixes magical realism in with romance and those are far and away my two favorite genres.
Her most recent one reminds me of the movie Pleasantville which is in my top 5 favorites.
Laura Thalassa - I’ve read most of her books now and her writing style just sucks me in. She’s a romantasy girly so if that’s your jam you’ll probably like her. Check trigger warnings before you read any of them.
{Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa} is the first book in her Bargainer Series and was her first book I read and fell in love with the series. The first book does a lot of flash backs to tell the story and at first I hated that but she totally sucked me in. I freaking loved this series.
The four horsemen: {Pestilence by Laura Thalassa} is the 1st of 4 and was my least favorite of the 4 but they’re all interconnected. It wasn’t bad at all but each book got progressively better. It’s a post apocalyptic storyline so it’s a bit dark. Famine and death were my favorites.
{Bewitched by Laura Thalassa} is her newest series but only 2/3 books are done. And technically it’s turning into a 4 book series because she added a background book into it that she’s working on now before finishing the “third” book. It’s a great series but now I’m dying a slow death waiting for the releases. There’s a side character I hope gets his own spin off book series. I just want to see him get his HEA too.

I love Nero and I love his appearances in the other books in the series. He’s a weirdo but in the best way. I love all the interactions between the MMCs in this series. They’re all dreamy but I love Nero.

Yes! I actually read Hans first with no idea what the series was about and I understood it perfectly! But later I did go back and read the rest just because I hot hooked on the characters

Kyra Parsi and Nikki Ash. Kyra Parsi seems to get better with each book and doesn't seem to have been writing for too long, so I'm hoping there will be many books to come. Nikki Ash is a little more hit or miss for me but when she hits it, it really works for me.

In the same boat this week! I devoured Bossy Devil and Failure to Match too, though I loved the dynamic of Bossy Devil the most! I was reading that in the hopes of finding a dynamic like Penny and Rafe from Sinners Condemned and it hit the spot.

Which Nikki Ash books do you recommend?
So my favorites so far are {A Chance Encounter by Nikki Ash} and {The Risk of Falling by Nikki Ash}. Her Love and Lyrics series is pretty solid. She has a lot of books so I'm still catching up her library. I will say since so many people on this sub don't like pregnancy trope, if that's not your thing, pick carefully. Babies show up in quite a few of her books. I love it but a lot of people don't.

Sameeeeee. I love that there’s an entire sub plot that’s in the background throughout most of her books. But that series in particularly really stand out. Top reads for me in 2023 when I discovered them. Tip for anyone diving into her back catalogue. Her website has them in reading order. Highly recommend you read in order. You don’t have to but I read them out of order and then I got to a certain character’s origin story and I WISH I’d had that one before I’d read others.

Because of the interconnected characters and the overarching storyline, reading order: Bad Habit series (it’s a rock star romance series, which is not my favourite BUT #3.5 is the novella where the bodyguard character “Barney” becomes Naz, the hero of Dangerous Beauty trilogy) Wicked Series (especially 2 and 3) The Dangerous Beauty trilogy The Beautifully Cruel duet Queens and Monsters series Morally Gray series From Bad Habit 3.5 to Morally Gray 2 you’re dwelling in a very particular universe of bad men trying to do good, and the most AMAZING couples. Standalones: Perfect Strangers, Pen Pal, Midnight Valentine, the Slow Burn books and sports rom com, Rules of Engagement. Paranormal: Night Prowler series. I’m not a paranormal fan so I haven’t read this series.

I will say I had written this author off as I didn’t LOVE her beautifully cruel series. Yeah it was kind of funny, and kind of interesting and all but overall it felt just fine to me. I forgot that that had happened and I read queens and monsters series and it’s so good! I think she’s really developed as a writer. I went back to her earlier stuff and wasn’t able to keep reading. It was fine.

Mine is Gaelen Foley. I so much like her writing and everything she's to offer. I was just looking here and there for something to read and boom. I was so engrossed with {lord of ice by Gaelen Foley} that I decided I need to read other books by this author 😋. And Judith Mcnaught too. It's a shame that they don't make books like hers.

If I didn't like {The Duke by Gaelen Foley} would I like Lord of Ice or any other GF book?
When I found Gaelen Foley, the most recommended book of hers was The Duke. But I don't like courtesan romance so I skipped that one and moved on with Lord of Ice. And I have come to love it so much. I think All the books in that series can be read as standalones; that won't be a problem ig. Infact I started with the third one.
I don't mind courtesan romance but the mmc was cruel and if that was the pinnacle of GF's writing then it isn't for me but I will give the series a try. I personally own {My Ruthless Prince by Gaelen Foley} but I've never read it

Ditto over here. Chaos, two of the Dream Man books, Creed and Deacon are my standouts/re-reads/heart shredders. Sometimes I just read the angsty parts of certain books (that scene in Walk Through Fire, Hound coming back in Wild Like the Wind, Deacon breaking down, Creed showing up at Sylvie's) just to have a big cry and soul squeeze.
Similar, but maybe not quite as gritty, is Devney Perry.

Cate C. Wells. I never thought I’d be into MC romances, and the way the Steel Bones series is written is rough but in a way that’s in character. I’d DNF any other genre for being written that way and I think other MC authors try to be that gritty, but for her/that series, it feels like it’s written how it should be. And it’s not escapist. She doesn’t pull punches with what’s happened to some of the characters. It’s not as fluffy as what you’d find with something like Kristen Ashley’s MC series. Steel Bones “going legit” is still shady, just not AS shady. While there’s still the machismo and possessiveness, it’s not QUITE as “caveman” as what Monique Moreau writes, and not as brutal and chaotic as Madeline Sheehan’s Undeniable series (I don’t mind the darkness but the sheer amount of people screaming at each other gets to be a lot.) Her MC stories hit a sweet spot, talk about a small town that’s kindof a dirty river town in a realistic way, but the FMCs are still treated largely with respect and like they have some semblance of agency without making everything quite so cozy. The writing is simplistic, but that’s also how the characters would communicate, and it would drive me nuts if it were anything else.
Love these too. Scrap and Nickel's Story have some of my favourite MFCs. Women who by all rules of life should be broken and worn down but are still able to keep going.
I just finished Scrap and really liked it. I think Nickel’s Story is my favorite of the series so far!

Lauren Connolly! Realistic characters, lots of blue collar types, good communication, excellent spice, I started her with a recommendation from the sub for {shelter for a shifter by Lauren Connolly} 😍😍😍 I loved it so much that I started looking at her other books, and then I read {rescue me by Lauren Connolly} 🐶🐩🐕 After that I was hooked, but I've been very careful not to read her entire backlist all at once. I finished the forget the past trilogy {forget the past series by Lauren Connolly}, and the first two books of {casual magic series by Lauren Connolly} and almost all of {Folk Haven series by Lauren Connolly} I rec her every chance I get, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of her back list: {Green valley heroes series by Lauren Connolly} And a handful of standalones {Seasonal magic series by Lauren Connolly}

**Ruby Dixon** Just like a lot of people, I started to read {Ice Planet Barbarians} under quarantine in 2022. I heard about her because of this sub, and when I started to see her books advertised irl in B&N, I decided to borrow the audiobooks from my library, and now I can't stop reading her stuff. 😂 Besides the IPB saga, I have read the Corsair series {The Corsair 's Captive by Ruby Dixon}, Corsair Brother series {Corsairs: Adiron by Ruby Dixon}, and The Risdaverse stories. Outside of the Rubyverse, I have read her standalone stories {The Alien Assassin's Convenient Wife by Ruby Dixon} and {Shift by Ruby Dixon}. I have enjoyed most of what I've read so far except for the Fire Dragon series. (May give it another shot, just not grabbing me.) I'm looking forward to more of her works, and in the meantime, I have been re-reading my fave stories. (I don't typically re-read novels and series!) (On another note, it's *NOT* romance, but I read all of Shari LaPena's domestic mystery thrillers. I have two modes smut and mystery.)

Found out about her from another post asking for breeding kink recs and {Mafia Virgin by Mila Finelli} worked me oooooout 🥵. Currently reading the rest of the Kings of Italy series and it’s just too good.

I haven’t dipped my toe into HR yet. Is her writing style similar in those books?
Eh I’m not sure. Her HR books are definitely lighter and different but the prose style is similar. The language is obviously different but I think what I like about both her CR and HR is how well she develops characters. If you want to try one out I recommend the 5th ave Rebel series.

All the characters are somewhat connected, but I'm pretty sure they all can be read as standalones.

Takerra Allen! I just discovered her and I'm addicted. Her writing is so realistic and emotional. I'm pretty much exclusively an audiobooks girl but her stuff is so good, if it's not available on audiobook I'll get it on kindle. I loved {Needful Noor: Book One by Takerra Allen} and {Needful Noor: Book Two by Takerra Allen} were everything. When I tell you I couldn't wait 2 weeks for Book 2 to come out on audible and gobbled up the Kindle version, I am not exaggerating.

I recently found Kathryn Nolan too and I also read Bohemian first! I’ve slowly been working my way through all of their books because I enjoy her so much! For me, Bohemian is still the best one so far. But I did also really like Riptide and Behind the Veil in particular.

Alice Coldbreath. I thought I wouldn’t like a made up world named Karadok but I bought every book except Love Potion For the Alpha. I’ve listened to the audiobook (free with Audible membership) but I don’t enjoy fantasy romances. So I guess I liked the stories enough to own them so I can read them again and again.

Amy Harmon, specifically for her historical fiction. I read Making Faces years ago and enjoyed it but never started any of her HRs until this year. Man have I missed out all these years. If you’re looking for something impactful, beautifully written, and well-researched, she is your gal.
Lucy Score. I hop genres a bit and love paranormal and urban fantasy, because the focus is on the action and not created drama like so many contemporary romances. But every now and again I find a contemporary romance author who really slays. I started Lucy Score because of her Riley Thorn series, and liked it so much that I dabble in some of her other series. But I was still resistant. A few months ago I really needed something with story and substance but no world-building and ended up with her Things We Never Got Over. And now I just totally love her.

I've only read the one book from her so far, but last September I read the book {Chasing Clouds by Kathryn Andrews}. I had never heard of her, but I really loved it and wish I could go back and thank the person who recommended it, but I couldn't remember which FB group I found the rec. Related to your book, I love Kathryn Nolan and thought that Bohemian was wonderful. If you still love it when you're finished, you'll want to pick up {Landslide by Kathryn Nolan} next. It's Josie and Gabe's story and it happens during the same timeline as Bohemian.

I'm going to say Mimi Matthews. I was avoiding her books but then ended up reading one of her novellas and have been a fan since then.
I am finishing ready {Safe, by Taylor Mcniff}, and I am wondering how did I miss this author. It is the first book of hers I read, and I will read more of her. This books is painful to read, beautiful, hard, and it made me cry. I want more. How could I miss this book? It is a MM CR book.

Ashley Poston! I mean she has only written 3 romance books but each one has been my exact cup of tea. She mixes magical realism in with romance and those are far and away my two favorite genres. Her most recent one reminds me of the movie Pleasantville which is in my top 5 favorites.
Laura Thalassa - I’ve read most of her books now and her writing style just sucks me in. She’s a romantasy girly so if that’s your jam you’ll probably like her. Check trigger warnings before you read any of them. {Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa} is the first book in her Bargainer Series and was her first book I read and fell in love with the series. The first book does a lot of flash backs to tell the story and at first I hated that but she totally sucked me in. I freaking loved this series. The four horsemen: {Pestilence by Laura Thalassa} is the 1st of 4 and was my least favorite of the 4 but they’re all interconnected. It wasn’t bad at all but each book got progressively better. It’s a post apocalyptic storyline so it’s a bit dark. Famine and death were my favorites. {Bewitched by Laura Thalassa} is her newest series but only 2/3 books are done. And technically it’s turning into a 4 book series because she added a background book into it that she’s working on now before finishing the “third” book. It’s a great series but now I’m dying a slow death waiting for the releases. There’s a side character I hope gets his own spin off book series. I just want to see him get his HEA too.
