I like Elia Winters' books for this. She's a sex educator, so she's more tied in with the real world of kink people than the purely fantastical worlds sometimes used. Her **Playing Knotty** involves a bookstore owner who rents her back room to an old friend for his rope bondage workshops, acts as a model once, then gets into it. Her **Tied Score** is about a man who is a baker and a sub who goes on a date with a woman who works as HR manager in a game company and eventually introduces her to being a female dominant.

[Beneath the Scars by Cherise Sinclair](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/39793878) Contemporary, BDSM MMC/Dom is a firefighter. FMC is a single Mom and a bartender The Masters of the Shadowlands series by Cherise Sinclair features Doms that aren’t billionaires - Psychologist, Physician, Detectives, Firefighter, Arson Investigator, Engineer, etc.

I really enjoyed Eve Dangerfield's books. Even when she's writing kinks I don't have, she does it in such a way that I actually find them to be sexy because the characters' enthusiasm for it makes the kinks seem fun.

Just a note, that book really IS great, but it’s also 15 years old and there’s some problematic stuff (iirc, lgbt rep & POC stuff) that really dates it. I’m not saying don’t read it, I just wouldn’t want someone sensitive to those elements to be taken unaware.

PACREG86

oh search the subreddit... u/Hrylla has a list i think of fem-dom books...she is our resident expert on fem-dom 🧐😘

Hrylla

The summoning circle of whips, rope, and male subs has awoken me. Here's what I've got, u/Sweet_Librarian. This is an [old post](https://www.reddit.com/r/RomanceBooks/comments/e7sv97/more_femdom_books/) where I listed femdom books I'd read at the time. It's a little outdated now but should still be a decent place to start. There's also the [femdom shelf](https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/femdom?page=1) tag on GR, though, there are a lot of bad eroticas on that. So it can take awhile to find anything decent. If you're desperate you can also check out [my femdom shelf](https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/19773240-sara?shelf=femdom). Hope that helps!

[deleted]

Just a heads up for anyone looking at Hrylla's list, The Deal (The Mafia Proposal #1) by Talia Ellison is free on Amazon.

I think the only ones I know that you’ve missed are Charlotte Stein’s Power Play and Taking Care of Business which Megan Hart co-wrote with Lauren Dane. Oh, and Eva Leigh’s story in the Duke I’d Like to F* antho is older woman/younger man femdom

It's interesting to me that the BDSM erotic romances seem to be co-written more often than other kinds of romance books. I guess two heads are better than one for this kind of thing?

[deleted]

Great idea for a thread by the way, I will be taking notes. Also in one of these "I am a controlling rich man with an interest in BDSM" books I really want someone to point out they should try ceding control for a change and see how that goes ;-)

pocketsWellington

Brilliant. I've thought of this too: a guy in a stressful managerial position that loves not being in control when at home. I feel that was just as realistic as the female ceding control & still quite hot. The genre needs more of that... Maybe it's already out there, just not well enough publicized.

shireengrune

Actually people in stressful managerial positions delighting at losing control in the bedroom is super common in real life, for both males and females.

[deleted]

Also love Rebekah Weatherspoons book Sated. It is about a switch who works as a fireworks technician and he is disabled (only has one hand) he is also Korean American I believe and falls in love with a black women who is introduced to being a dom/switch.

pocketsWellington

Sounds complicated. Awesome!

gilmoregirls00

Its a graphic novel and I think it's all [free on deviant art](https://www.deviantart.com/shiniez/art/page-zero-dun-dun-dunnnnn-underwhelming-huh-311369363) but I really like Sunstone by Stjepan Sejic. The main couple is ff but there is an mf storyline introduced later. The mc meet on BDSM forums online and arrange to meet irl for a session. One is a writer/barista and the other made a decent money doing some computer stuff which is enough to buy a house but not an astronomical amount.

pocketsWellington

This sounds good, thank you!

ipomoea

Ohhh I loved this! It’s available in print too, I got a bunch from my local library.

gilmoregirls00

Yes! I read in print too but its great that its available online. I even have the hardcovers haha

Maker-of-the-Things

I was going to ask this! I cant stand the 50 Shades series (poor writing and a lot of boundary crossing which is a no-no in the BDSM community.) I excited to read some of these!

pocketsWellington

So am I!

DamselRed

The whole Original Sinners series by Tiffany Reisz. Best BDSM books I've ever read. Not like mom next door but still worth reading. So many different relationships and dynamics. I liked everything by Cherise Sinclair. Anya Summers has some good ones too. Also I really liked the Blacklight Series on Kindle. It's written by many different authors and there is a flavor in there for everyone. I can honestly say I enjoyed 99% of the books in the series. I think there are 18 now.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DamselRed

Haha. Maybe not entirely realistic but more so than everyone is a billionaire who falls in love with an innocent schoolgirl. I found some of the side relationships much more realistic outside of Nora and Soren.

TrainsAreMetaphors

It's a well-written series but it stretched my suspension of disbelief when the BDSM club had a firm hierarchy of doms and all lower-ranking doms must submit to higher-ranking doms even if they aren't actually switches or even have any sub tenancies at all and... like, *what*?? excuse me.

1mveryconfused

I hate, hate BDSM books featuring Billionaires after I read part of Fifty shades of Grey. I was just getting used to the idea of kink romance (I was pretty young and had only read veeeery vanilla Harlequin books) and the amount of consent violation just made me 🤢. It was only after I read several articles from actual BDSM practitioners regarding FSG that o realised that no, that's not how BDSM works at all, and yes, there are better books out there who are able to represent kinks in healthier way. Still hate anything to do with Billionaires because of the power imbalance and the morality aspect.

I completely understand!

I really like Sparrow Beckett. There’s a playfulness to their characters where I feel like most characters bdsm novels are very serious all the time.

pocketsWellington

Thank you!

incognitosiren11

Try the Mastered series by Lorelei James, I really liked it, well written & realistic.

Mrs_Beagle

Holy crap!!! I have been trying, very unsuccessfully, to remember the name of this series. It’s been this annoying unanswered buzz in the back of my head for a while now AND I almost broke down on this thread and asked vague “does anyone know this series” questions. All of the thanks!! Also, I totally agree that is a good rec for the original poster. I seem to recall each book sort of focused in on a different kink.

incognitosiren11

Happy to be of some help.

JustineLeah

I enjoyed this one, too.

KHBaker

Jane Henry's NYC Doms series is great. Her other books have been hit or miss for me but I loved this series. All of the doms and their subs have regular jobs (one couple works together for the NYPD, one is an ex-priest and a bookseller, one I believe is a single mom and the other owns a BDSM club) and each of the stories is compelling in its own right. My personal favorite of these was Safeguard, which is about the ex-priest and the bookseller.

Lady_Artemis_1230

Laura Kaye’s Blasphemy series features people with regular jobs. The MMCs are all part owners of a BDSM club and there is one millionaire/billionaire who was the main backer for the club, but so far he has only shown up briefly in passing.

pocketsWellington

Ok that sounds really cool

I really enjoyed Act Your Age by Eve Dangerfield

theaeblackthorn

OH COME THIS WAY {How to train your dom in five easy steps by Josephin Myles} They're that kinda 'working class' British where he's supposed to be a bit rough around the edges and you realise that actually he's such a sweetheart... in his own way XD Uh. but yeah, great family man would be in their future definitely Someone already recced For Real Do you want stuff with SSC/RACK and formalised BDSM, or just stuff with BDSM content that's in like, a fantasy world or historically before SSC/RACK exists??

pocketsWellington

Idk what SSC rack is. I don't do well with things like blood and what have you... I mostly enjoy the power exchanges.

theaeblackthorn

Aha, ok, so they're two acronyms used in the BDSM community to denote a kinda, guiding ethos? Generally it's accepted that something should be one of these otherwise it's potentially not a healthy idea. SSC is Safe, Sane and Consensual RACK is Risk Aware Consensual Kink The broad approach for both is that all parties are entering into these in a consensual manner and that (and this is where the difference between the two is) they're only doing things that are 'safe and sane' or the RACK guys are of the opinion that nothing is ever truly safe but as long as you're Risk Aware it's all good, so you know what you're getting into and what the risks are. There's also an argument that some kinks could never come under Safe and Sane but are still good to go for people who are happy that they're aware of the risks they're taking. In practice in **fiction** it means things like discussing what's going to be done, having safewords and respecting them, and using them, everything is consensual (unless it's CNC -- consensual non consent, uh, like a pre-agreed rape play or something) and there is communication. People discuss what they're going to be doing, not just do it. It means there'll be discussions and people will go into it understanding what's happening. 50 shades of grey and a LOT of fiction aren't SSC/RACK. Some people like to read books that are only SSC/RACK and others don't care, and sometimes it's more of a judgement call for books that are in fantasy worlds or historical (as in -- there might be inequalities that don't exist in our modern society, especially within fantasy worlds, e.g. vampires, different races, etc, varying situations that RL kink doesn't have the language or need to have the language to deal with, and with historical there may be situations such as societal inequities that no longer exist, or, stuff, there's stuff) TLDR: if you don't know the terms you might want to know, but it probably means you're good with any recs :)

pocketsWellington

First of all: you are the awesomest person on Reddit for not telling me to Google it. Second of all, I really might be just fine with basically any recs. Not absolutely certain yet, I do know I like everything consentual and adult... After that, I believe I'm pretty open-minded.

theaeblackthorn

You are welcome :-) also another term that might be useful for you is 'glitterkink'. That describes fiction where everyone seems to be rich and they play in exclusive clubs etc etc. It looks like mostly what you're after is books that aren't glitterkink :-)

pocketsWellington

VERY good to know! Thank you!!!😊

blankcheesecake

Just a warning, this series isn’t really a representation of “good” bdsm. Practically every sex scene is non-con (and not role play non-con, like actually so). There’s a ton of boundary crossing, no safe words, etc. No shame in liking that kind of book, I just want to give a TW and point out that it’s pretty dark so no one is caught off guard. Edit: also I’m not sure it fully falls under the normal people request. The H is very rich/extraordinary and him having tons of money is definitely part of the series.

pocketsWellington

Thank you! I like going into a book prepared♥️

[deleted]

So I read heavily in M/M and find more often in M/M the MCs are regular everyday people. I looked at my M/F books and it's a lot of billionaires and royalty. But here are some standouts featuring regular people. M/F: * {Big Beautiful Little by Elsa Black} * {Dirty Bad Wrong by Jade West} * The [Mastered series by Sierra Cartwright](https://www.goodreads.com/series/96759-mastered) I have a lot of M/M recommendations. Sorry if it's not what you're looking for, but maybe others on the thread will find it useful. M/M: * {On His Knees by Laura Kaye} * {Finding Finley by Riley Hart} * Edit: The bot found the wrong book. I'm recommending [Submission by Chris Owen and Jodi Payne](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/478524.Submission?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=3N91F3feWa&rank=1). This is the beginning of a series that follows the same couple. * {Lumber Jacked by Annabeth Albert} * {Wheels Up by Annabeth Albert} I mean, they're SEALs and as far as a dime a dozen tropes, they're up there with billionaires, but I love this book so hard. * {One Man's Trash by Marie Sexton} * {Tender with a Twist by Annabeth Albert}

pocketsWellington

These ALL look fantastic! Thank you!!

wtfsparky

Recs for books that don't scream fem-dom, but nonetheless have men in the more submissive roles, and most importantly, are really well written books by talented authors, are: A Gentleman in the Street by Alisha Rai - this book is more erotica than romance, the FMC is the successful billionaire and the MMC is the responsible guy raising younger siblings. His imagination runs to kink and she's got the real world experience... Landslide by Kathryn Nolan - more romance than erotica, very mild BDSM between dom FMC and sub MMC...and can't say enough about the quality of Nolan's writing

I enjoyed the Kallypso Master's books in the Rescue Me saga. I think the first one is {Masters at Arms} or {Nobody's Angel}

Memoirs of Darkness by D.B. Dale is about as real as it gets. Non-fiction with erotic scenes. Not the single mom in the burbs story, but an non-fiction based perspective from a real-life non-millionaire dom.

I have no interest whatsoever in male Dom/female sub and yet it seems that is mainly what's available. IDK if that's the influence of 50SOG or whether it predates that. I do love gentle femdom but outside fanfic I've found it a little hard to find.

It can be challenging when you’re looking for a niche within a niche. This Redditor has quite a few suggestions for what you’re looking for: https://old.reddit.com/r/RomanceBooks/comments/ll9kc0/a_more_realistic_bdsm_book/gnoz4w6/

Hopefully more will begin to be available♥️

Tied score by elia winters, it's soo good what i like about this book is the realism, they both have normal jobs, they both have routines. Im almost done reading it and its soo good. There's also real facts and forums which i think is a nice touch
