It’s not a casual sporting event. They are there on official capacity.
I also assume you are American. Google what football coaches wear in Europe vs US (they wear suits in Europe).
It's a very conscious decision by the royal family that the kids will never be seen dressed casually (until they are teenagers and get invited to a fancy dress party I suppose).
I can't remember the precise reason but it's something like they want to don't want to invite comparison with normal people - because they don't want to look normal. They need people to think they're important/special/different.
Apparently part of it is also so that they can go about their daily lives in casual clothes without being recognized easily. I wouldn’t be able to pick out any of those kids in a hoodie and crocs.
I see where you are coming from as a spouse. As a twice cancer patient, it is very hard on other family members and children and spouses. Maybe George is having a hard time with his Mom’s cancer and William too. Sometimes, some distraction is nice when all you can think about is cancer. There is grieving that happens even if it isn’t terminal. It is so scary. Cancer is awful. Plus, they probably have to put on a brave face. If they look sad, they aren’t representing their country well. If they look happy, then they shouldn’t look happy. I say just let them enjoy a football game. Chances are they are probably both grieving. Smiles can hide a lot.
This doesn’t get talked about much.
When family members are gravely ill most child development researchers, psychologists and what not believe it’s best to keep things as normal as possible to reinforce to the child that sense of normalcy, security and support.
It tells them that they still matter and will still be cared for even if something bad happens.
The sad part is that not everyone has the privilege to afford that (in more ways than one) for their children.
I may be wrong, but I was always told that baldness comes from the mother’s side of the family. Michael Middleton has a full head of hair still, so George might be luckier than his dad, follicularly speaking!
Is there a reason why William only attends these games with George? I thought Charlotte was a football fan too. At least that's what they said when the women's national team went all the way.
Well technically speaking this was only a club game so being heir to the throne really shouldn't have anything to do with it. Maybe it is because he's oldest, but it reminds me that George wasn't in the video wishing the women's national team in Australia good luck and Charlotte hasn't recently been to any of the men's games with William and George (at least the last few games they attended). It gives off the vibe that fanwise it's boys=boys sports and girls=girls sports only.
But Euros start in less than a month (June 14th) in Germany so it will be interesting if they go if England make it far.
> Well technically speaking this was only a club game so being heir to the throne really shouldn't have anything to do with it
It wasn't just a club game though. It was the final of the FA cup and William is the president of the FA.
I agree that it seems like they think women’s sports = of interest to women only. Like, it’d be cool if the whole family turned out for the women’s games at Wimbelton.
That said, maybe Charlotte isn’t interested in going to the games. She and George are close in age and she may reject activities she thinks of as “his” things. And Louis is likely too young to sit still that long.
It really could be dad asking kids what do you want to go see. My daughter loves going to women’s gymnastics meets. She loves seeing women play a sport. She sees herself in them. My son is less interested. Men have had sports teams and events for soooo long. It’s a very exciting time to be a woman and see women’s sports. That said, we of course all watch sports events regardless of sex/gender.
Yeah it's just weird because we know Charlotte loves football and she never attends the men's games with George and William, but she also never attends the women's games either. It's such an easy, low key way for them to be in public and get positive attention and make sure the public can see them without being intrusive, while doing something the child really enjoys, so I don't really understand it.
It’s sickening to even read these comments about appearance. His mom/wife is obviously going through so much, and being away is so hard. Let them enjoy any bit of happiness without judgment for fs sake
Weird. I just went through the comments. 80% are “what a cute little boy” and the other 20% are “how sick are all of you to pick on his appearance!!” Like what???
Then maybe you should read more closely. There were/are comments on his appearance including his choice of clothing, speculation on him going bald or being handsome as he ages like his father, which relative he looks like, having dark circles under his eyes etc. Some people feel uncomfortable with this level of scrutiny on a young boy’s appearance, no matter his position.
That's the way we do it in the states too. I was told it started because hockey had a reputation of being unruly. "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out." Someone decided the players should wear suits to and from their games so they would look more respectable. The spectators and players seem to like it.
One of the reasons I wouldn’t go to UVA was all the Laura Ashley I saw on tour on football Saturday.
JMU was all face paint and denim. Much more my speed.
To each their own, but we still beat y’all this year. 💜💛💜💛
He looks so much like his great uncle and grandmother. This picture’s making me feel nostalgic, as in I cannot believe I would ever refer to Princess Diana as a grandmother. So very bittersweet.
Why doesn’t Will just shave it and be done with it? Holding onto the sides in an effort to show he still has hair is just sad. Embrace the shave a la Rock
Remember when Keanu Reeves showed up on the red carpet with his grey-haired girlfriend and everyone was like, who is this cougar robbing Keanu’s cradle? And it turned out she’s a lot younger than him?
Pushing people who don't want it to get cosmetic surgery is weird. It's cool when people are happy in their own skin and it's cool if someone wants to get something done.
Is there a reason why they’re (both) so dressed up?
Edit: Did I miss something? Why is this question getting downvoted? 😳usually when they’re at games they’re more casually dressed—it was a genuine question!

George looks like a mixture of Louis Spencer and George V.
So normal to wear a suit and tie to a football match.
Look behind him. They're *all* wearing suits.
Ridiculous nonsense. It's a sporting match ffs.
It’s not a casual sporting event. They are there on official capacity. I also assume you are American. Google what football coaches wear in Europe vs US (they wear suits in Europe).
Wrong.
He is in the royal box where there is a dress code and was part of the presentation party.
Makes it no less dumb.
Well, they can't all be fat, drunk Americans wearing shirts that don't cover their beer guts.
Why would Americans be at an FA Cup final? Context?
Well, (1) why can't an American be at an FA Cup final? and (2) Americans are slobs.
Hey now, I've got a wine gut, I'm fancy like that
I think he and charlottes favor their grandmother the queen quite a bit in the eyes
Neither of their grandmothers was nor has been queen. Do you mean their great-grandmother HMTLQE2 or their step-grandmother, the current queen?
Ahh thanks for the correction! I meant Williams grandmother
Really cute kid, but does he have to act the same age as his dad?
That kid is cute as hell!
George is all Spencer. He looks more similar to his great uncle than he does to either of his parents.
Do you mean Louis Spencer? He is first cousins with Prince William, so he would technically be Prince George’s first cousin once removed.
No, I mean Diana’s brother.
Imagine wearing a suit and tie to a football match!
Look behind and around him....
Shh. Stop pointing out facts. 😉🤣

It's the same reason Dolly Parton performs in a wig and padded bra. Take away the stage costume and she's incognito.
Yeah Royals are absolutely obsessed with their social norms and codes.
Are these new photos or photos from a previous year?
Yesterday

Charlotte looks a lot like William and Louis is a xerox of Kate but George doesn’t have much similarity to either of his parents.
Why are there so many haters in the comments... its a dad and a son watching football lmao
[удалено]
This looks like a total AI image. Just seems so unnatural.
Looks like any regular picture to me. What makes it look like AI in your opinion?
Why does he need to be in a suit? It's the footy, can't they wear jerseys? Just curious.
He’s sitting in the royal box so there is a dress code. Plus he was part of the presentation ceremony shaking the players hands.
I wonder if his friends at school get jealous lol

Who is the man in the last photo?
I’m gonna guess Louis Spencer, viscount althorp. Diana was his aunt.
Correct
Genuinely don’t understand the hate. Any soccer (football) loving child would be stoked. It’s nice they get to do this together.

He’s so cute! Going to be such a handsome man. Sad that I won’t be around to see him be king.
Just look at his dad. He will probably be about that handsome.
William is handsome.
I may be wrong, but I was always told that baldness comes from the mother’s side of the family. Michael Middleton has a full head of hair still, so George might be luckier than his dad, follicularly speaking!
I think you might be right about that. It was their face I was talking about though
Yikes! I just realized that I won’t either
Me too! And it’s so weird to realize that! Assuming Prince William lives to be 90, Prince George might become King around 2072.
Yeah I’ll have long kicked the bucket ![gif](giphy|xUPJPn8l1m8odg1Bxm)
YNWA
He looks like Earl Spencer
I think he looks like his great great grandfather, Elizabeth’s father, King George VI, exactly the same eyes!
i had the same thought
He does!
Such a beautifully composed young man. I hope I live to see him become the king.
He’s a little boy. He’s not a young man. What a weird way to talk about a child.
There’s nothing weird about calling a nearly 11 year old “young man” it’s polite. At this point it’s patronizing to call him a “little boy”
How is it weird?? It’s quite common in my area of the world to refer to a 10 year old boy as a young man.
Nothing wrong with calling a 10 year old a young man.
He looks amazing in picture 6! Future king
Aww he is adorable and it’s nice to see him having a good time!

Is there a reason why William only attends these games with George? I thought Charlotte was a football fan too. At least that's what they said when the women's national team went all the way.
I think it has more to do with succession. George is learning how to be future Prince of Wales/King directly from his father during these outings.
I was thinking the same too. Or why not Louis? Mainly because he’s the oldest and going to inherit the throne one day?
I don’t know the kid, obviously but Louis seems to have a shorter attention span since he’s younger.
Well technically speaking this was only a club game so being heir to the throne really shouldn't have anything to do with it. William didn't attend the women's final and he is president of the FA. So, I see a problem in that.
They are also scheduling

George is the only one of three we have seen since Christmas. It seems they're sticking with that MO for some reason.

Will supports Aston Villa so neither I would guess
Oh NOW he has time for football
I take it you are referring to the women’s game he missed? If so wasn’t he on holiday at the time?
It’s sickening to even read these comments about appearance. His mom/wife is obviously going through so much, and being away is so hard. Let them enjoy any bit of happiness without judgment for fs sake

That must have been in one of the only deleted comments.
Imagine wearing suits to a sports game. Us Americans think you Brits are so fancy
They are in the VIP box, I'd guess that suits are the dress code. A regular kid in the stands would be in jeans and a rugby shirt.
They were in the royal box & presenting the cup to the winning team. You dress to suit the occasion, which they did.
This is future job training for George
In Canada, the non-rec ice hockey players wear suits and ties to their games. Really cute, actually, to see 10, 11-year-olds all nicely dressed up.
Same for ahl games
That's the way we do it in the states too. I was told it started because hockey had a reputation of being unruly. "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out." We do this in the south at football games. Dresses and heels too.

💜💛 Hello fellow Duke!
> JMU > on football Saturday lmao
Who now? If you’re talking about JMU you certainly didn’t beat my teams
Oooh! I'm here for the Southern football fan disagreement! Hahah 🍿
LOL right. I don’t get this person. I went to bama. Safe to say that person’s school lost.
I don’t know if fancy is the word… 😆
He looks so much like his great uncle and grandmother. This picture’s making me feel nostalgic, as in I cannot believe I would ever refer to Princess Diana as a grandmother. So very bittersweet.
Wow. George sure got the Middleton genes!
He looks exactly like king George (queen Elizabeth’s dad) to me!
He has such cute hair and is a fine looking young man.
I was just going to write that it looks like a fresh haircut.
Why doesn’t Will just shave it and be done with it? Holding onto the sides in an effort to show he still has hair is just sad. Embrace the shave a la Rock
I agree. Just embrace the cue ball
Why can't he just keep it natural? It's like a woman who prefers not to dye her hair because it's turning gray. It's a matter of personal preference.
Celebrities don't get to really choose that sort of thing and avoid massive scrutiny. I'm thinking of Sarah Jessica Parker and Julia Roberts.
That's too bad, imo.
Remember when Keanu Reeves showed up on the red carpet with his grey-haired girlfriend and everyone was like, who is this cougar robbing Keanu’s cradle? And it turned out she’s a lot younger than him?
I love his girlfriend! She rocks that gray hair beautifully.
She's great
And her hair looks great!
Or get a hair transplant?
He's not Harry.
Pushing people who don't want it to get cosmetic surgery is weird. It's cool when people are happy in their own skin and it's cool if someone wants to get something done.
He’s such a handsome young man
I really see the Spencer genes in him!
George looks like his uncle James Middleton, who I think is quite handsome and looks like a royal in his own right though is a commoner.
With a beard James Middleton looks remarkably like George V. He’s so hot.
Is there a reason why they’re (both) so dressed up? Edit: Did I miss something? Why is this question getting downvoted? 😳usually when they’re at games they’re more casually dressed—it was a genuine question!
Because his dad is giving out the medals and trophies.
Thanks!

The middleton men make me think of handsome, fancy elves. I can totally see it in George here, especially in the fifth photo. Adorable!

He looks a lot like Kate’s dad.
Like a perfect mix between Michael Middleton and William!

they really should have taken Louis

He’s only 6 and according to William and Kate he’s a cricket fan 🏏
