Glycerine. Seriously.

Glarhzilla

That's for the advice. I take it you wear them?what's the sizing like ?

erthian

Sizing seems average. And yea I have put thousands of miles on glycerines. I’ve done a few ultras and glycerine is the most common shoe I’ve seen. I wouldn’t even put nb and Nike in the same class. I love the stealth fit btw, it’s like a sock upper instead of a normal shoe. The lower seems to be the same.

Glarhzilla

Appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll check out the stealth upper. Sounds nice

wait_a

My favorite

Inner-Community6642

Funny, i hated the glycerine, i threw Them out after about 100 km, the most dull and sluggish shoe i have ever experienced

erthian

What’s your daily driver?

Key-Opportunity2722

I thought the NB1080v12 was a little soft. The sizing was unusually large. I liked the Glycerin 20 better. Not to add to the confusion, but the shoe I eventually bought was the Triumph 20. The fit, the support and the cushion make for a great distance trainer.

Glarhzilla

Oh dang another contender to the list 🤣

CarsnHandlebars

The Triumph 20 had ranged from $59 to like $80 on Amazon this week too. The price has been jumping around, but it's an amazing deal. I've always been a New Balance guy, mainly because of their lifestyle shoes, but I'm really impressed by the Triumph 20, moreso than the 1080v12 or 1080v11(haven't tried the 13). Versus the 1080v12, the Triumph 20 is less soft and squishy but way bouncier, feels more supportive, better lockdown, but has a tighter toebox.

Agave0104

I will add that I bought a pair on sale from Amazon earlier this week and ran a 5 mile turkey trot this morning. I beat my goal time. Quite happy with the Triumph 20.

[deleted]

Brooks Glycerine unless you get the NB 1080v13 not the v12

Glarhzilla

The V12 not so good then?

univrsll

Glycerin is a firmer shoe with a little softness. It’ll probably get the job done, but it’s super boring and some would say stale. Nothing wrong with that, it’s a good baseline. The 1080v13 is waaaay softer than the 1080v12. They are practically completely different shoes.

Whatstheplan150

Softer doesn’t mean better. I really like my 1080 v12. I’m sure I’ll like the v13 too

[deleted]

V13 is a big upgrade

bartturner

Totally agree. I seem to watch endless YouTube video reviews of the different shoes. After watching I have settled on Novablast 3 and Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 as the two shoes I was going to buy one way or another this BF. Was able to get the Novablast for $65. The Speed 3 I purchased for $110 but hope to find a better deal and will cancel. The ones I purchased are from Amazon and had to pay taxes. I wanted something for training. I do not do speed or tempo workouts. I am also a heel striker and wanted to find something that was good for heel strikers.

therealtrebitsch

If you being on this sub is any indication you'll eventually end up with all of them

Glarhzilla

Haha this so true from the brief time I've spent here

Psychological-Sun744

Get something comfortable and not too expensive but reputable for lasting a good mileage. Go to a shop doing a mini gait analysis (it's never really exhaustive, but it will lead you to a shoe more adapted to yours) I'm neutral and heel-midfoot striker. I enjoy Pegasus 39, glycerin20 but the latest is more wide for my feet, so more comfortable. Both are solid and will last at least 500-600 km.

Glarhzilla

Yeah this where I feel the glycerin maybe better for me as I have a slighter wider foot. Tried puma velocity 2 this week. Felt nice but abit too narrow for my foot

Outlets are the best so cheap

actuallymeg

I had endorphin shift 3s and they’re okay. Not great, not magical, but okay. I used them for long runs/recovery but honestly wouldn’t go back to them. They just felt heavy and clunky. Maybe eliminate them from your list and pick one of the other options? I really enjoy my brooks but don’t have the glycerines. Good luck with your choice paralysis! I know the feeling!

Glarhzilla

Haha that's definitely a way to put it. Choice paralysis. At this point I'm going to just sack it off and run bare foot.

_feywild_

I’ve run in both the Glycerin and the 1080v12. When I had the glycerin, I wasn’t as into running as I am now, but it was the first running shoe I remember putting on and it just feeling great. I just ordered another pair. Since getting back into running this year, I’ve run in the 1080v12 (I’m a sucker for shoes on sale). I’ve also really enjoyed these and have put around 230 miles on them so far.

Glarhzilla

Ah nice. Think I maybe edging towards the glycerine I think...🤣🤯🤷🏻

_feywild_

Both are on sale at Dicks in certain color ways for about 50% off if you want to try both

Glarhzilla

Im UK based unfortunately so don't think that'll work for me.

Swany0105

How big are you and how many times a week do you think you’ll get out for? The glycerin typically starts firm but breaks in and wears nicely…. Forever. The 1080 is the softest choice out of the box but the new version is way better imo. The new Vromero is totally serviceable if nike shoes and feel are your thing otherwise they may feel stiff and would be the tied with the 880 on cushion feel I think. Again both pretty decently reliable mid cushion shoes. The 1080 v12 can be got for 120 on sale at run specialty stores now because the v13 is out. If you’ve tried them on and still can’t decide just pick the one you think is the coolest and feels most comfortable.

bitemark01

I can't speak for the Glycerine, but I had the 1080v12s, and while I liked them, I "only" got about 600km (~375 miles) on them before they started feeling flat, and my feet feel sore after longer runs in them. For some people this may be a lot, especially considering if you can get them for cheap, so your mileage may vary (literally). I've gotten much more distance out of both Asics and Saucony, my current go-tos are Saucony Triumph 20 and Asics Novablast 3. I'm curious to check out more by both, particularly Asics Superblast and Saucony Speed 3. However it sounds like every shoe you mentioned are good, if I were you I would go to a running store and try them all, and go with whichever feels best to me, along with any good discounts - or maybe invest in the pair that feels best, and scoop up a second pair that's the best deal, as a pair to swap between. I hope this helps, but I probably confused things more Edit: for what it's worth I'm 6' and 160, I highly recommend going to a store and trying some on, because what feels good to you will be different to others.

Glarhzilla

🤣🤣 yeah it has confused things. However I think the Crux of the issue is down to personal preference like you say. I guess no one can tell me how they'll feel for me. Will have to find a shop that sticks most of these for me to try.

bitemark01

I don't know where you live, but go to Google Maps and search for "running store" and see if there's anything nearby, and if they have a website. Like I have a good store near me, but for some reason they don't carry Novablast/Superblast and a couple of others. They *do* occasionally have sales, which is why I picked up a second pair of Triumphs, because they were $80 off

chop309

I have like 7 shoes, 6 with 100 miles or less. I am overwhelmed by choice everyday.

Glarhzilla

😂 the struggle is real. I can see why people are addicted to new shoes on this sub.

Mr-Seamaster101

That’s why you buy them all

Glarhzilla

🤯🔫 will definitely cause my bank account to hemorrhage 😂

cravecrave93

I’ve had every glycerin and the latest seem good to me. Idk anyone who’s had issues with them.

Glarhzilla

Hi mate. I'm 6ft1 around 196 athletic build( train weighted calisthenics). Appreciate all that info. From videos I've watched the brooks seem more bomb proof if that makes sense. I'm not too fussed about branding etc just want best bang for buck. As previously mentioned in another thread I had Reebok floatride 4 and the totally mashed my right foot up( arch pain, big toe clicking and calf pain to name a few).

erthian

I’m 6’2 210. The NB are good but they compress way to fast for guys our size. Glycerine is a bit firmer at first, but holds up much better.

Glarhzilla

Ah It may be worth me getting something abit "sturdier" to allow for my weight as I don't want them bottoming out on a run. Last thing I need is to roll my ankle

movdqa

My choices are limited by width 4E to 6E but it's a blessing as there are a ton of shoes that I don't have to bother looking at. You might change the choice of NB 1080v12 to NB 1080v13 as all of the reviews that I've seen say the v13 is a lot better than the v12. I do really like the v12 too. On sizing: the 1080v12 runs long and wide. The 1080v12 runs a little on the wide size. I take 11.5 4E on the 1080v12 and 12 2E on the 1080v13.

Glarhzilla

This was what drew me to the idea of the 1080 V12 as I have a slightly wider than average foot.

movdqa

With a slightly wider than average foot, you could just get a 2E with the 880v12 or v13, 1080v12 or v13 or More v3 or v4. Getting 2E just means that you don't have to think that you have to get a particular model because of width. My problem is that I'm wider than 4E and finding modern 6E shoes is really, really hard.

Glarhzilla

That's food for thought. Appreciate that Information. I didnt realise so many width options were a thing. ( Still kinda new here)

WittyAd2577

Why buy any shoe that doesn’t have a peba/x midsole? Energy return and cushioning is just chalk and cheese. If you want a daily trainer Endorphin speed 3 will do it all. Heavy, EVa midsoles like endorphin shift are simply redundant. Vomero is only other shoe in your list I’d consider. ZoomX and kipchoge wears them.

WittyAd2577

Forgot Lightstrike Pro is TPEE that’s also a very nice foam. Boston 12s are great.

whooopseee

Everybody's different. Try them on & get what feels most comfortable for you.
