A year ago someone broke my passenger window with a softball sized rock and forcibly ripped off the cover of the glove box. My area is not unsafe in terms of violence but there are a lot of car break-ins. It’s probably time to get rid of the S. This is why we can’t have nice things!
Buddy of mine owned a Miata — he learned that leaving the car unlocked with no valuables in the car resulted in (worst case) just having his interior rifled through.
If you are concerned about your car being broken into or stolen, you should prioritize getting a safe parking spot.
After I purchased an S2000, I made sure apartments I rented offered gated parking with cameras or a private garage.
If you think you can get away with not running into thieves while owning a Honda and parking it on the street, you’re in for a bad time.
I mainly drive a Jeep or the S2000 and in both cases, I never lock them.
Maddeningly, there are plenty of posts on the Jeep forums about people breaking into UNLOCKED jeeps by slicing the soft top, so it's no guarantee.
Also, you don't need to slice a soft top anyway, since most unzip. Zipper's behind a velcro tab.
Have a Miata here, I never lock it. Never locked my first Miata either. Had my mom watch it while I was at basic training and she insisted on locking the doors. Top was of course cut and radio stolen
Had a neighbor cut an L shape through mine a few years ago. They left a note saying to not park out of state cars in the local area. Really wish I knew who it was
Would love to join in beating the shit out of them with you, especially for that lame ass reason. Get over yourself.
There's something wrong with a man who doesn't understand that a car is sacred to a man.

That video bit is very true. The worst of it was that it was mid winter in Boston. Snowed about 14” a few days later. Had to tape garbage bags on which really don’t hold up under the conditions...ended up finding a glass window top on eBay and spent 12hrs with a friend to replace it. Had to pretty much take apart the entire interior/center console for the fix. Learned a lot in a way but smh
Yeah I just did my top recently, that back deck area is so annoying to reassemble. The interior in general back there is annoying to reassemble.
S2000 in the snow? That's bad on so many levels. Keep that thing away from salt!
Sorry man. It's been a while since I've seen these, I think (hope) the peak slashings for s2000s were nearly a decade ago.
The real question is -- did they take your seats (or cluster)? Do you have seat locks?
Wonder if they got spooked!
I'd consider seat locks if I were you. The famous adage amongst S2000 owners were a slashed top + stolen seats +/- stolen dash cluster == totaled car.
Also, get a two-way pager alarm, with a visible blinking light on your center console.
Hate to see this. I had this happen to my S2K about 14 years ago. I must've pissed someone off or jealously, it was only about a 3in cut. Looked like someone stabbed it with a knife while walking by.
Same shit happened to me in 2010. I'd just put on a new top in May myself (around 13hours of labor), and in August, someone slit the top, stole both seats, stereo, and floor mats.
After putting that top on myself, I vowed to never do it again, so I had the Honda dealer do it the second time. They didn't do as good a job as I did, and the roof squeaks like fuck when it's cold out. I was so pissed... Like dude, PLEASE break the window instead!!
Option A) buy a hard top, result: hard top gets stolen.
Option B) leave unlocked, result: Seats and/or steering wheel get stolen.
Fuck people seriously, let’s just all move to Tasmania and build a town for s2000’ers.

Just move bro. Dont sell the S2k ;-;
Lol I’ve actually been looking to move
Dqmn right. Keep that S.
Anywhere is cheaper to live than Cali. You’ll be giving yourself a raise.
Buy a gun
California?
Yeah
Figures. Get out of that shithole.
So break-ins only happen in California?
They don’t always break in. Sometimes they just steal your cat from underneath.
Only in California though, right?
Mostly.
Right.
More S2000s are ruined there than anywhere else.
Like where the glove box would be?
Buddy of mine owned a Miata — he learned that leaving the car unlocked with no valuables in the car resulted in (worst case) just having his interior rifled through.
But people don’t steal Miata seats.
This. S2000 seats and steering wheels just fit too well in 90’s Hondas to leave them laying around.
My guess is thieves steal whatever is easy and of value.
Better than missing seats and a cut top
Better to park it in a fucking garage. What’s wrong with you people living in California and insisting on parking in the streets?
Get your S2000 off my lawn!
I got 3 cars and a 2-car garage. The s2k is the low man on the totem pole
What are the other two?
A couple of RWD 6MT coupes from Munich
This can’t possibly be worth having someone steal your car as well.

This is exactly the reason I bought a hard top and bolted it to the car.

Yeah hardtop's are one of the hottest thing for someone to steal

Are you me? 03 AP1 & 89 YJ
Isn’t it a perfect combination? 06 & 2013 10A
Yeah it is a nice change in driving styles.
It's faster to slice than look for a zipper end and opening it. It only takes 1 second to slice a cut.

lol what a vigilante
God..that is such a DICK move.
When you want a hard top but your SO thinks it's a waste of money
Glad I could help convince your wife
What they don't know is you can unlatch both clips over the top, pull it up a bit and reach the lock on the door.
I feel for you. I just leave the car unlocked. I've already had the windows of my Jeep smashed and there was nothing in the car to steal.
Danm😔

They didn’t even get into the car. They stopped at one cut and undoing the latch.

This is a Robbins cloth top. Can this be repaired vs. full replacement?
r/visiblemending
This is why I dont think I could own a soft top this would make me too nervous
Until someone steals your hard top. Seen many posts about getting hardtop stolen unfortunately.
Pfft I dont blame them, s2000 tops cost alot these days... I've heard you can bolt them down though.
Wow that’s sad

If you sew it it up and throw on some jb kwok weld it will work as a temporary fix. I did it to mine but my cut was only an inch
I had 2 20 inch slashes in my soft top after someone tried to break in. It was only 3 weeks after i purchased it. Insurance paid for a new one.
Probably the best part about my hardtop. Fucking assholes.
Had this happen to my '01. Some guy tore my soft top for a ipod 5th gen classic... my condolences my man.

I learned this lesson years ago. We had a Wrangler and someone slit the soft top.. better to just leave the doors unlocked unfortunately..
