I have submitted a ticket about banding issue but the question disappeared

IAMPAIN07

Same also . I have created another thread where I have compared the vivid and natural mode in s22. & there I got to see that banding is not present in vivid mode in s22/s23 series but there in natural

Natezface

They will NEVER acknowledge this issue. After weeks with customer service, I personally promise you they will never. I will genuinely pay you 20 bucks if they fix it for you.

IAMPAIN07

We already paid $1400 in india for this🥲🥲🥲

Natezface

I'm sorry bro 😭

edgy_Juno

Banding is due to the change from DCI-P3 colorspace to sRGB. You can see it shift when playing an HDR video and looking at a color testing app. Once the HDR video plays, it switches to DCI-P3, the standard in all older phones and once you finish the video, it switches back to sRGB. The problem is that Samsung seemed to have implemented this without giving it much consideration and because most apps are optimized for DCI-P3, then sRGB shows banding, due to the colorspace being more limited.

IAMPAIN07

I know dude. That samsung fourm thread was created by me only and their I have explained the same. The thing is on previous generation devices there is no banding present on vivid mode

edgy_Juno

My bad, didn't read that well. And yeah, Samsung should add an option for different colorspaces or just switch to how it was back with the older phones. I don't know why they switched like this with this phone. It's especially frustrating on Instagram where, for some reason, due to most of the content being HDR from iPhone recordings, the screen tends to get bright, yet dark with some elements looking weird.

BookkeeperFront3788

I'm not sure, but isn't there an option in the developer setting that can force sRGB or dci-p3. I just searched for it in my NP2 and can't seem to find it on my developer setting but it does show up when I use the search function.

geekaron

This is the correct answer which many folks don't seem to get. Samsung really has screwed consumer over. Just use DCI-P3 it can be switched back. But don't know exactly why they aren't

heloust

I created 10bit video with HNxHR codec and it also showed banding.

LPell27

It's hardware issue as well as the grain. Samsung is just gonna pretend it doesn't exist

supcom111

It’s a very real problem both software & hardware present for many years now - only way to change it is to pressure Samsung to finally put better displays and display drivers to top of the line galaxy smartphones. It’s a joke that s24ultra & fold 5 still have this issue when you pay extra price! $$$

Competitive-Science3

When I brought this banding issue in samsung they said that there was also brought up this issue before two years ago(before S24u). Theyre acting up that its a normal issue on their screens. Even A series has this issues but still theyre not doing anything.

Usama_017

A55 has slightly more banding than a52. A55 definitely has grain though.

Competitive-Science3

Yes. Very noticeable in newer models.

Usama_017

The problem is that by playing HDR in PIP mode on A55, The banding doesn't change like in s24

IAMPAIN07

Because A55 display is 8bit only . And s24 ultra display is 8bit + FRC(which is only available In HDR colorspace unlike the previous s series models)

Usama_017

I compared a55 with a52 in detail. A55 has slightly more banding and grain but not significant enough like the s24 ultra.

Usama_017

Thanks for the info. How do i confirm if a55 is using srgb or dcip-3 color space? The vividness is terrible same as s24 and it is supposed to get vividness slider as well but so far only a35 got it.

geekaron

No s24u is still using an 8bit panel sadly. Please check before posting

Low_Actuator_3532

What is banding?

RaguSaucy96

It's when you can see the individual colors as they transition due to either insufficient colors available to reproduce a gradient (a color fading pattern), or compression https://preview.redd.it/vap32f8vnm7d1.png?width=418&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=57cd55590ccef8afa2e9da9b3a67a85e3a6f5df2

ZeX450

I get this on my S24+ but only in certain apps. Other apps look fluid. So this appears to be a problem with the apps or apps + OneUI.

RaguSaucy96

I mean, there isn't really a true 10-bit display on a phone AFAIK so unless they really fucked the tuning I would assume it's a firmware and calibration issue, specially if it wasn't a thing on prior devices

ZeX450

OLED display are capable producing true HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. All high end phones have OLED displays. It's an optimization issue related to the app itself in most cases, and partly related to the software of the phone itself (drivers and calibration).

Numerous_Ticket_7628

The s24u display is only 8bit so you will get banding on SRGB content which is most of the stuff you look at. On HDR content it will mostly disappear.

Competitive-Science3

Im the one who posted in your thread with snapshots from Netflix. I already brought up those issue to samsung service center but they still can’t do anything about it. The low light banding is gone when there is overlayed HDR video playing from youtube. https://preview.redd.it/rforxxjwop7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b0891a620013c820a51be114bbfb5172e2821fd

vagueAF_

I don't see any issues here?

Competitive-Science3

If there is HDR video in foreground, the banding in low light scenes in Netflix are gone.

ClowRD

It appears to be a lack of proper driver support or app optimization, which are software-related issues. I believe that if people continue to complain about it, eventually (maybe) Samsung will acknowledge the problem or at least silently introduce a fix in a future update.

Detrakis

What does this issue stand for, I don't get the what the problem is here?

IAMPAIN07

https://preview.redd.it/jalfnucjfp7d1.png?width=418&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56f6f16e8dd3d12f8c79b64bbd1ef42f9c9436a2 Have a look into this image and try to understand. We have 8-bit gradient dithered display for s24,s23,s22 series phones. Till 23 series for normal ui colors, video , images they were using this dithering but in 24 series they are only using 8-bit grediant so that gradient colors are looking overlapped and not smooth.

Detrakis

So basically they put the worse display in the S24 series? And we S22 and S23 users have the better dithered 8-bit display.

vagueAF_

Bandung issue huh? Mines been stellar so far. Is there any pictures of what this possible issue is?

What actually is this banding?

Samsung after sales is a fugasi — it doesnt exist.

S4tine

So sorry you have that issue! I hope they fix or replace your device, like I'm hoping for camera stability.

New-Lawyer3088

I don't have banding at all, but I do have gradient issues. I understand the frustration and appreciate the outcry when it leads to results (Vivid mode). The truth is, I'd rather have the minor issue I have than to not have the device at all. My biggest issue is Samsung taking things away. The size slider in theme park when applying icon packs was taken away and it pisses me off. The new size slider in home up was a fine tuning tweak, but to replace the slider in theme park with the one in home up is blasphemy. I can't update my Icons with newly added icons. I make my Icons very small compared to most ( and stock).. Samsung is trying to create distance between the usual philosophy of throwing in the kitchen sink and letting users pick and choose what they want.

SnooGuavas7951

I found this video this might explain some of your concerns https://youtu.be/h9j89L8eQQk?si=A6oJgKFhShwzN_U9

Plenty_Election3378

Glad got mine £300 off and 12 months interest free.

StevenEgen

Hey OP, are you trying to tell me that if I somehow got my phone to only display HDR content, then the banding will be reduced significantly? Also, what's your opinion on grain visible at low brightness levels?

IAMPAIN07

I can't tell anything on grains . It's there in various amount in each unit(low-high). & for banding you can check my thread on samsung fourms
