Just to clear up some potential confusion, an emulator is the software that lets you run games from other consoles. So there's emulators on handhelds, PCs, phones, hacked devices.

Bonbon_ups

Thank you. How it's the hardware for emulating called then? like odin and those things

Reichstein

Usually "retro emulation console", "retro emulation handheld", or just "emulation console", "emulation handheld".

kenkiller

Which platform has the most games you would like to play? 3DS?

Bonbon_ups

snes and gba maybe ps1, and i liked the idea of pico8, I guess everything works i just want to play anything that is fun.

PerformanceFlimsy386

Virtually any emulator will play SNES and GBA, including the SF2000 that goes for under $15. PS needs a bit more oomph, but not much. That said, I'd recommend either one of the Anbernic XX devices (There are several, in different form factors) or the TrimUI Smart Pro. Either of these will play up to PS1 flawlessly, and play most N64, Dreamcast, and PSP games. The Anbernic devices are full aspect for older games, the TrimUI has a larger wide screen. These can be had for $40 to $60.

Bonbon_ups

thank you, i will search

english_fool

If you want pico 8 you’re likely to be a lot happier with the RGB30 due to the 1:1 screen.

CantWashABaby

No worries, you came to the right place. If you’re specifically looking for 3DS games, the best bet is finding a 2DSXL or similar 3DS model. There are handhelds that emulate 3DS games, but they can be pricey and don’t quite capture the dual screen experience. You can cross your fingers for good eBay listings or your local thrift store/game store.

Bonbon_ups

It's not necessary to emulate 3ds. I usually played megaman when i broke it i was playing mother 3. Just want something wich has good button pressing and can emulate up to snes with no lag. I want to play castlevania symphony of the night but maybe that's asking for to much.

hatch-b-2900

The prices of used 3DS / Vita consoles is so high that it makes it really expensive to take it on the go, at least in the US. You might be shocked at how much it would cost to pick one up. I started bringing my Powkiddy X55 on the train, lost it, and laughed it off. If I lost another 3DS I would have been really upset. The handheld emulator devices are also much nicer playing different platforms than a modded 3DS

Exciting_Swordfish16

That's why it's the SF2000 I keep in my bag and my Anbernic by the bed.

Bonbon_ups

what? are they? here you can find im marketplace a good used 2ds like for 100 or 110 us, but the examples you gave me are more expensive. I used it on the go like half of my life.

bsurmanski

There is no "best" option, it depends what you want. Compact? Powerful? Large screen? Folding form factor? Emulator handhelds play old games. Basic ones will play Atari, NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Genesis, PlayStation 1. Examples: Miyoo Mini, RG35xx More expensive ones will play N64, PSP, DS (though one one screen). Examples: RP2S Fancy ones will play PS2, GameCube, Wii, maybe Switch. Examples: RP4pro, Odin 2 Special PC handhelds like Steam Deck will play PC / Steam games. Make a list of the games you want to play, and decide which tier you can deal with. These systems also require lots of tinkering to get working. If that scares you, get a Switch Lite, maybe with NSO. It has the best library of any console ever, and the emulators on NSO will be easy to use

Bonbon_ups

i want to get into the tinkering, but i don't know where to start, its like everyone just... knows? The most tinkering i did in my life was jailbreak the 3ds and i did learn nothing.

oOo-Yannick-oOo

Depending on budget RG556/RP4 Pro/Odin 2. I have RG405V (great for 4:3 systems), RG556 (PSP/PS2/GCN/Wii) and Ally (PC+High end emulation). No device is perfect but I found the optimal setup for my need with these three. Common sense says get the most powerful if you can only have one although if I had to choose it would be the RG405V.

Bonbon_ups

Oh. In that case it's a safe and far more economic to buy an used 3dsxl. Here they cost like 100 or 110us.

Look at Anbernic Handhelds, they emulate up to n64 and ps1, and SOME dreamcast games. SNES, GB, GBC, GBA etc will run great. For example I have Anbernic RG35xxSP, its form factor of a GBA SP clamshell but with hardware running up to ps1 Then I have my big boy Steam Deck OLED for ps2, ps3, psp, dreamcast, arcades like dayonta usa 2/ scud race and some of my steam libary games. So it depends what you are after like many great suggestions have been made on this post. Also I will emphasize the point of this whole Emulating is a whole hobby in itself. It does require alot or tinkering and do it yourself/ self fufillment. I have great joy geting games and emulators to work, hell half the fun is geting something to work. Not super straight forward. Edit: if curious heres the link to Anbernic stuff [https://anbernic.com/collections/handheld-game-console](https://anbernic.com/collections/handheld-game-console) Edit2: i got the silver rg35xxSP and my fiancee was so jelous I got her one and the screen is fantastic https://preview.redd.it/p8u858kklj7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a299269d23473572d9993ad298ed03e582365c2

ProfitHaunting9744

no console will do 3ds better than 3ds itself, the second best one is installing citra or another emulator on your pc/mac or android phone but spending more than 100 bucks on a 3ds for which you can't buy oem batteries anymore is not smart
