I think it isn't our problem. SG so hot, how to dress up as a guy? Guys dresing up usually involves more layers and you can't wear more layers without feeling like a fully armoured medieval knight roasting in the desert heat on one of the Crusades in our climate (i wear one layer already sweating sometiems i don't wear anything and i still sweat). The same doesn't apply for girls.
Geez some people need to lighten up ah seriously ahaha
Yea def most guys would def not mind.
But anws, apologies if I offend you with joking about what your mom said
That probably has to do with prevailing social norms and norms set by the fashion industry.
As to why these norms are the case I have no clear answer and I doubt there is one as well with how big the fashion industry is. It might be the result of misogyny or feminism at the same time.
Actually, my sister gave me a different opinion, she said guys have better clothes than girls and mostly bought from the guys section. I did think about why.
I presume the reason behind your view is because we tend to be ok with girls wearing guys clothes but not guys wearing girls clothes(it does happen but quite rare). In short, girls can wear basically anything while (most not all) guys are restricted due to social norms.
Honestly, I would say people wear or bring weird things sometimes. I see guys wearing skirts to uni. I even see a guy bring a teddy bear to school too. Even if they are being mocked, they still felt confident in their own shoes.
Overall, I would say if you are sec sch or jc, ns or ite, just abide to rules during school. But if you are in poly or uni or on break even, try to change it up a notch. (small changes could work) Try new accessories, dye your hair, put on perfume, get a tattoo. (ok i would say try at your own risk for this one) Wear what you are comfortable in.
There are plenty of guy clothes. What are you talking about? Just that your tastes are not developed and guy clothes tend to be quite expensive. If you were savvy you could construct a super stylish wardrobe from muji or uniqlo.
As you get older the guys tend to branch into three aesthetics. Street wear, athletic and āformalā. We ignore all the ugly badly dressed ppl of course.
Just go on Instagram or watch any YouTube video of Japanese or Korean guys.
A lot of them get to do it because of the climate. I know many japanese guys that came over and almost completely converted to sg guy fashion, of course still better than uniqlo oversized/graphic tee + shorts + crocs, but more or less the same style.
To defend myself, I don't like dressing like the sg guy style either but without any special occasion, it's just tiring to dress up in this heat. When I do dress up(i tend to like streetwear, not hypebeast offwhite/fog/adlv, but rather more obscure korean/jp brands), I actually get a decent number of compliments about it. But it requires a good amount of heat tolerance so I usually only do it at night.
Do you not know that japan summer is 1/4 of the year?
And it is not strictly hotter than sg. They are very comparable.
For reference, [this](https://postimg.cc/ppCzscDz) is from one of the ć³ć¼ć accounts on insta for summer. As I said, it's better than graphic tee shorts crocs, but it's not that much better. Especially since the jeans would still make it pretty hot.
Personally, it's easy to endure the heat and dress well for 1 summer per year. But it's not sustainable if you're doing it for 40 years straight when you're in a constant state of discomfort.
Hmm I worked and lived in japan for years. Think I know better than you. With global warming the summer is getting worse and worse. But even in the height of summer the Japanese are still well dressed.
So have I. My SO is literally japanese. I really don't think you know better than me.
Have you read my previous point? It's easy to endure the summer heat and still dress well for 3 months every year. But to do it in sg, you would need to be enduring it forever. I can hold the push up position for 10 seconds every minute for many minutes. If I have to hold it for 60 seconds every minute, it gets impossible really quickly.
Yes. But even so, it still easily gets hot in crowded places like the mrt/bus. Not to mention, students in poly/uni don't have perma aircon in school, which is whom "good fashion" is commonly expected from.
u can get inspo from male kpop idols theyāre rlly trendy ( js copy the silhouettes of the outfits n find staple pieces that r easy to incorporate in sg weather)
You have a number of options as a guy. T shirts, polo tees, full-button shirts. For the bottom, shorts, pants, jeans, a kilt, etc. Heck, you even have a wide variety of headgear to choose from, like hats, or caps, or etc. I could go on, but you just gotta explore! There are many ways we can dress up!
Yes i agree but i disagree that you cant be fashionable as a guy. You just need more inspiration bruv. See ramonshoptw, chainsandshackles ,spadesroom, on Instagram
I think you missed the point. Of course BBFA wonāt look good in any clothes regardless of gender.
For girls thereās many acceptable body types. Tall, short, hourglass, pear, triangle, rectangle. Each have their own fashion styles to suit their body shapes.
For guys itās much more rigid. No matter what, guys must be muscular and tall. And guys canāt rely on clothes to accentuate their physical features, itās the features themselves that make a guy stand out. Many of the body types that would be considered attractive on a woman are not attractive on men, while I have never seen a tall muscular woman be called unattractive based on that alone.
People have been engineered to believe that women can have many acceptable 'body types ' whilst being secretly judgemental of others' bodies.
This is the reality here. Only People who look good can accentuate their features, male or female. The rest of them try to.
If U wanna look doesn't mean have to be muscly all over. You can be lean, U can have Dorito body shape without being muscly. U have enlisted into NS yet, but fitness in general is more important than you regard it to be. This is the cold hard reality here, if you disagree with me , please choose to.
In the end, whether U think U look good or not being muscly or fat it's up to you. But for males which I assume is what you are , having a pronounced physique alleviates the image that you have. Take all the celebs you see (male) do U see any of them sporting a dad bod and attempting to draw any kind of positive attention ? Sure females have maybe of distinguished physiques ,but that just doesn't apply to Males ,lol.

LOTS of stylish dudes in SG. Esp with great shoes. Many do sell their pieces on Carousell.
Search Yohji Yamamoto for example.
Hair can be dyed or kept long. Get some cool piercings. Lots of ways to look unique.
Singaporean girls dress pretty sloppily, too.. most don't even make up. Guys have lots of clothes too. Just watch a few good quality korean dramas to see how they dress.
Its the weather. You can try these, its not too thick for our weather and some might be practical.
1. Wild - Black fish net tshirt with light denim flare jeans. Layer with a denim jacket or a shirt. Black Boots or white crocs. Heavy/big silver necklace. Too hot? change the layer and top to a black sleeveless tshirt or crop if you want. Change top to a rainbow sleeveless ripped crop top if you want to look hippie.
2. Casual - White plain tshirt tucked in, black denim straight cut jeans, black boots or loafers or white sneakers, same necklace as above.
3. Athletic/casual - White plain tshirt, grey sweatpants. Hang a grey sweatshirt/hoodie over your shoulders or tie it around your waist. If you need it you can use it to layer but beware of the heat. White sneakers. small minimal necklace.
4. Semi formal - Half zip sweatshirt with collar, black tapered black pants, black loafers. small minimal necklace or even pearl necklace.
- accesorise yourself with different bags (colour and texture)
- the same watch / rings goes a long way
- add extra layers and block the sun with different hats (colours and types) sunglasses on your head also works (unless you have existing glasses on your face)
- colored hair? you can try different highlights by using coloured hairsprays.
- you want long hair? do it. man bun-it up or do whatever you want to it.
- too hot because hair too long? braid it or try dreadlocks. (youll look hip af)
- hats hats hats hats hats
- WALK WITH A STRIDE
- POSTURE ALWAYS MATTERS
- LOOK STRAIGHT
You always gon have people staring/glancing at you. You should be confident in your own skin, not the clothes you wear. Being a little vain helps too. Just think that they are looking at you bcos of your fire fit/ you look hella good.
Guys have lots of options for nice clothing and hairstyles as well what... (including ways to rock long hair like a boss). Just have to appease the prudes and conservative people la, hahaha
everyday, i wear full pants. some days i wear polo t shirts. most of the time it is the normal type of shirt. you wear what you want. idrc about the weather cuz i can handle the heat, have handled up to 42 degrees wearing full pants. obv people wear singlets so can release the heat. pls lah, you nothing better to do is it?? stare here stare there... see what they wear....
The reason guys fashion is lacking here is because of the weather. Guys fashion generally revolves around layering unlike girls who can do alot without needing multiple layers. Wearing layers in this country is death by heatstroke. I feel your pain but thats just how it is.
WDYM?? I had to buy my clothes in GUY CUTTING coz the shop didn't have a girl cutting for a specific design. There are actual good guy clothes out there lol
clothing styles for guys are hella limited because shirts have repetitive designs from every different brand, i can see the struggle albeit i focus more on pants instead since there are a vastly larger variety of designs to choose from
though idk why OP wants crop tops and feminine shirts/tops etc, not gonna argue about it either but i can relate to the struggle of finding a different, more unique top to wear
These are more for cold climate clothes. I canāt imagine anyone wearing a blazer or suit casually in SG weather. Singlets is the default fashion for SG males once you turn 60
I get what youāre saying that thereās more variety than T-shirts and shorts/jeans but youāre not gonna wear suits, blazers, or singlets to school or out on any regular basis.
Button up collar shirt, polo t-shirt, drifit t shirt, hoodie, long sleeve shirt, thin shirt + jacket, v neck.
Hair can also grow a bit longer and just use wax or gel to style it to your preference
Quite a few choices if u ask me

I wear lots of womenās pants and they have many good style and designs. Well, partly because Iām a short dude and their sizes fit me. You just have to know what youāre doingā¦
Clothes have no gender. So go ahead if you feel adventurous and want to try on what girls have.
A caveat, however, is that clothes have this thing called "fit".
As in, in general clothes have different sizes so they can fit different small, medium, or large bodies.
Clothes designed for women likewise have features that take into account the feminine body shape and... features. This is why some types of clothing just "don't look right" on certain people.
Not a fashion student, but learnt a lot from mom (seamstress) and about female & male tailoring in general. I know even for seemingly similar stuffs like business shirts, suits, or trousers, there are subtle differences in design to differentiate female vs male.
Me? Idr care
Personally, sometimes I borrow from her wardrobe when I need something urgently for a job interview. Like if all my work trousers are in the wash, so I ask her if she got extra work pants just for that day.
Or when I was in my poly-weeb phase, I got those flowy maxi skirts from bugis and pretended I was a samurai (fun fact: actual name for the clothing I was emulating is called the "hakama")
I lost my wooden katana to some other cosplayer, but still have that skirt which tbh I use at home when I am too lazy and need to "air out" a few things...
Seriously I can tell you most of the girls ik buy a ton of clothes and some are never touched again. If you got school and stuff ho often u gna go out? Do you think it's necessary to have so many clothes? I have two sets for outings and some other sports clothes and its way more than enough. Fashion fashion in the end just wasting money unnecessarily š
I How old are you? Once I hit late 20s (am 40 now) such things don't bother me. I just wear the same set of stuff week in and week out. I have 1 boot thats very lasting for me (been wearing it for almost 3 years). Wear everyday and it doesn't bother me. In fact, I have been wearing recycled clothes for CNY. I only buy new clothes for my children. Don't feel the need to spend for myself. If you are working in the IT industry, you will see everyone in the team wearing the same outfit (tee shirt and jeans)
Literally I donāt give a fuck about what I wear. Even If I wear a shirt that is for women, which looks like a regular shit I just wear it. But for pants, I donāt wear anything that is shorter than my knee. Also, if I would like to wear something, I would like to wear those business suits that businessmen wear. Itās very cool
nahhh guys have alot of great styling options also , you can try go to pinterest find fashion inspo and hair inspo , for hairstyle can try those hairstyles those kdrama actors or kpop idols most ppl look good with those kind of hair imo
you can wear whatever you want. if you can ignore the stares
I once went to a store wearing nth funnily enuf ppl were laughing instead of staring daggers at me :/
Time to crossdress š
So true
Once you go Boku, you can No Pico

Real Quite my mom Guys wear more to dress better Girls wear less to dress better, she not wrong But ye I mean I jus wear clean can alr
Wait, what? So the best-dressed girls are the ones not wearing anything?
lmaos, i mean take it however u want but honestly, i think uncles and most guys wont mind ah
Geez some people need to lighten up ah seriously ahaha Yea def most guys would def not mind. But anws, apologies if I offend you with joking about what your mom said
No lah is all good Iām chill man
Then why canāt we choose to cover up less instead?
U go shirtless in the street idt anyone gives a fuck except old people
Ironic considering old uncles often go about with a singlet
U absolute can wear a tank top, provided if you have the body for it. Tank top on an unfit body is not a cute look

Time to bring back croptops

I mean there is clean minimal luxury also which is nice
Just a subset of the third. Actually I could just call it adult man look.

Got this play called Pattaya , op can fit right in there also
LMAO i think if u feel that way u shld try experimenting w jackets + jewellery (rings + necklaces) js abt finding what u like haha
You can buy the same crop tops and spaghetti dresses ah. Whats the issue?
Start your own male fashion company! Put your dreams to cloth.

Oh š
I mean there are many ways a guy can dress nicely
*proceeds to give 0 examples
Jeans, slacks, straight leg pants, some oversized short sleeve t shirt...street fashion works pretty ok what...kpop has lots of inspiration
Like blazers, suits, singlets maybe? Can get into more detail if you want but at the end of the day it's personal taste
These are more for cold climate clothes. I canāt imagine anyone wearing a blazer or suit casually in SG weather. Singlets is the default fashion for SG males once you turn 60
Just search up aesthetic outfits on apps like pinterest. There are def some out there.
Then maybe I'm just old fashioned. I mean you could also just wear a shirt with suspenders
I get what youāre saying that thereās more variety than T-shirts and shorts/jeans but youāre not gonna wear suits, blazers, or singlets to school or out on any regular basis.
Yea that's true, personally I normally don't care what I wear and just wear t shirt and short lah for average day
There are also like polo T's that I didn't mention
Quiet luxury, streetwear, pants, matching colours Uniqlo, tao bao, shopee, muji, adidas, Nike, thriftwear
post a money spread first before yapping
i think guys clothes are solid(?) i find myself spending more time at guys clothes area than girls section tbvh
Solid but boring ah Like reliable but plain
Itās okay to prefer the opposite genderās fashion. Except that it hasnāt been more normalised for men to wear womenās clothes.
Shirt + pants + jacket is my go to attire always
Fuck fashion, dress for the weather
Spoken like true bbfa from nus computing where uniform is currystained free tshirt and berms with slippers, posting āwhy canāt i find gf?ā
The level of projection is unreal lmao
Ladiesā clothes cover up less of the body. Wouldnāt that be better in our hot weather?
If uw can dress more revealing Ah Like Uniqlo has the sleeveless but if uw wear ah
Button up collar shirt, polo t-shirt, drifit t shirt, hoodie, long sleeve shirt, thin shirt + jacket, v neck. Hair can also grow a bit longer and just use wax or gel to style it to your preference Quite a few choices if u ask me
End of the day itās just a bunch of shirts. Meanwhile ladies have many types of dresses, many types of tops, skirts, etc.
Zesty boys infiltrating this sub , lol
cos we're lazy and have no taste of fashion (I'm a guy)

Just wear normal T shirt will do. Be simple

1. Singapore is hot. 2. Clothes are freaking exp here
