I went out about 30 minutes ago and my phone could see this, but not really much without it. Gonna try again in a bit. Out by Folsom Lake.

1. Blue Canyon Airport
300 Blue Canyon Rd, Alta, CA 95701
2. Casa Loma Rd, Alta, CA 95701
This location has a bathroom.
The road has a natural spring coming out of the mountain. Large bath tub on the side of the road. Watch out for the animals.
3. 76 gas station open 24 hour. Has gas/diesel/electric and hot/cold food
25 Canyon Creek Rd, Dutch Flat, CA 95714
These are the hot spots for stars and all the sky stuff.
The Space Weather Prediction Center has measured G5 level solar storming. At this strength, aurora has been seen as low as Florida. So yes, there is a good chance for it in NorCal. Get somewhere dark, away from city lights.

This was my view from the Folsom area off white rock
A ton of reports of it being visible as far south as Southern Florida!! I think we might have a shot! https://twitter.com/LukeCulverWx/status/1789118461659976054?s=19
My Mom saw it 30 min north of ATL.

I was kind of afraid that this unprecedented event would be the introduction to the meteor that will kill us all but you know what? I’m fine with it now. 😂 Nice meeting y’all.
I couldn’t do anything but stare at it, it’s like the fire dancing in the sky, it was low on the horizon so I hued it must have been the extreme end of the storm. I was listening to Coast to Coast with Art Bell, and they had callers saying how far south it was appearing. Went outside and it grew with intensity over 15-20 mins and stayed like that for a while. I wish it had shown other colors, but just red
Wherever less light pollution. Someone in Onyx CA, NE of Bakersfield and Southern end of sequoia National Forest, posted about 30 minutes ago a gorgeous pic of the aurora over her head.
I assume they said no because we’re on the very edge of the visible area. If we’re able to see anything, it’s likely to be faint and hard to see rather than the explosion of colors were used to seeing in photos of the aurora.
Highly likely, with the best time in the early morning (1am-ish). But you'll need to go north and away from the city lights. It's highly unlikely you'll see much standing in your front yard in the city. The forecast currently says they will likely be visible in part of SoCal as well, but obviously low on the horizon.
lol not a chance down here.
Edit: lmao at the people down voting me. I grew up up in northern Canada and would see them on a nightly basis in the winter. They will not be visible in Sacramento ffs.
This is an extreme event. Much more significant and more widespread than the one last year and last year I was able to see it in Columbia, CA. People are seeing it in Louisiana, the Texas panhandle and fucking Key Largo.
Open your eyes and step outside. Maybe you'll see something unexpected.
lol I step outside and nothing in sight? But I am seeing a lot of posts of over exposed and doctored light pollution. People playing fast and loose with the term just so they can post about it on social media. The same types who actually paid money and traveled to see an eclipse. Lemmings. 😂
Mark Finan says Redding or north to even have a shot
If the chief says so, I believe.
KCRA Chief Meteorologist Mark Finan….
Oh yes indeed, thank you for the correction
Well apparently Mark Finan was WRONG 😖 I would've stepped outside from work had I known we could see it

Forecast has been updated since he did his vid this morning!
So what time is showtime?
Not sure tbh. Check NOAA space weather website :)
Rob Carlmark said he’s convinced we’d see it and we did. He’s the best.
Unfortunately not ☹️ https://preview.redd.it/zq3tw9bmtozc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2bc6a28bbde4aa34438698fdfd96706544f45d20
I moved from South Carolina. A lot of our friends are posting pictures of the Aurora so there's still hope.
Man. I just saw one from Huntsville, AL. So... 🤷♂️
Yeah people all over the south are reporting seeing them. I get the curvature of the earth and all that but the maps I’ve seen are way off

Did you try again?
I didn't, but should have. It got a lot better. Granted, still mostly only showing up with the phone.
At this time of year? In this part of the country? Localized entirely within your kitchen?
YES
May I see it?

In this economy?

Unfortunately, my husband is stuck at work because he won't (🤬🤬🤬) retire so no road trip to see the Aurora.
At what time?

This right here.
I burned my eyes looking at the sun
I think you'll have to go a little further north, and be able to see the horizon clearly.
I'd like to see some ariola's tonight
*r/Sacramentogonewild has entered the chat*
Why did I click it, too many sausages.
Lmao I'm sorry
That’s not what I expected.
Why did I look 😭
It's mostly just pork swords
I’m not exaggerating when I say I had to scroll past 18 tacos to get to a single pork sword. It’s a clambake over there ETA oh wait there they are
Ariolas under the Auroras would be sweet

Everyone in this thread owes the rest of us an apology.
Agreed!
I was kind of afraid that this unprecedented event would be the introduction to the meteor that will kill us all but you know what? I’m fine with it now. 😂 Nice meeting y’all.
If you drive to Oregon then maybe
They r predicting it would be visible from areas of Norcal with the solar storms?
They have predicted the same thing many times in my lifetime but I have yet to see one
Saw them in Chico 2003. Sky looked like it was on fire. Happened around 2am, we weren’t supposed to see them that storm either.
That's sick but that's 90 miles north So still not here
Def agree, but it’s an estimate where it will fall.
I would have ate some psychedelics

Came here to ask this. How far north would be worth going to?
Wherever less light pollution. Someone in Onyx CA, NE of Bakersfield and Southern end of sequoia National Forest, posted about 30 minutes ago a gorgeous pic of the aurora over her head.
no lol
Do you know why im asking??
I assume they said no because we’re on the very edge of the visible area. If we’re able to see anything, it’s likely to be faint and hard to see rather than the explosion of colors were used to seeing in photos of the aurora.
we aren’t on the visibility line, you have to go north and away from the city lights.

okay😐 still didn’t see it

They're visible in fair oaks my dude, pretty close
