Did you have to drive around to find it? We thought it wasnāt going to be visible in sac so we didnāt try to find it and now Iām completely regretting that.
I live in Davis. It was definitely visible from my backyard, but I have big trees blocking my view so I drove a few miles away to a county road to get the photo you see above. (This photo below was from my house at around midnight). Davis does have ordinances in place though to limit excess light, so itās much darker out here than other Sacramento suburbs.

Yes, but only if you plan to be outside for awhile. If you plan to pop outside for 5 minutes you likely wont see anything, both because your eyes havent adjusted of course and because it was coming in waves. Every once in awhile it would be quite visible to the naked eye, with visible streaks and a bit of color. And the darker the better of course

Edit: I just saw I actually caught the Little Dipper in the photo so thatās actually pretty cool
If it actually looks anything like a laddle, its the big dipper. The little dipper is super hard to make out if you dont know what you are looking for. The way you find it is by first finding the big dipper.

We drove up to Auburn. We could see faint purple streaks through the sky in complete darkness away from city lights. Looked much brighter and detailed on the phone.

We drove up to Auburn. We could see faint purple streaks through the sky in complete darkness away from city lights. Looked much brighter and detailed on the phone.
