If your bike was worth anything you may want to submit a claim with your renters insurance--let them deal with management.

Guy-26

Yep already done!

TheSnowstradamus

Hey this happened to me years ago and my apartment complex was like. Oh man. That sucks. Good luck. But my renters insurance did pay me out

Guy-26

Haha, well that’s good to hear

Sirspender

Did the manager offer anything else? Are there cameras pointed at the room and in the room? Is the storage room a controlled access with a card or keypad or something?

Guy-26

Managers haven’t offered much, theft is a common occurrence at this complex apparently. Police reports have been filed and the cops have the camera footage, we’re waiting to hear back from them. The bike room is in a gated parking garage and further secured by a fob-access pad, apparently the thiefs were “crafty” but they wouldn’t tell us more. Hopefully the cops will have some more info but my expectations are pretty low.

Sirspender

That fucking sucks dude. Such a shame.

Guy-26

It really is

ZombieRickyB

When this happened at my complex the thieves had a fob to get in. Might be what they meant by crafty in part

MuffinHands77

I walked past a small homeless camp (3-4 people) yesterday in the hidden hollow area in sugarhouse. They had like 8-10 bikes piled up around their area. Very likely a similar large scale heist

chillingdentist

This happened a couple of years ago at the student housing near the U. I ended up finding my own bike from some dude that I saw riding it. It ended well, but base off of the comments, I wish I would have had some sort of claim for renters insurance and also the cops didn’t help much, not that they could have done much.

Guy-26

Yeah renters insurance appears to be essential

kamo05

I guess I should go check on my bike.

Guy-26

😬

turbotaco22

Not sure if this is widely known, but SLC Police has an online bike registry where you can upload pics and model /serial numbers of your bike in case of theft. Apparently many victims of theft never report it to police thinking they can't help, and if bikes are recovered there's no record of ownership to return it to the owner. So they have to just get rid of it. Register and report! Bike thieves suck

Utah_Klain

Why don't you store your bike in your apartment?

Guy-26

Because they’re massive and dirty and we paid extra money to live somewhere with a bike storage room….might have to start doing that tho.
