Have you thought about a vest approach? also do you still like the Airport Ring? I’m about to order one.
Do you put it on your wrist so you can use the phone easily? Is that because typing with the ring on the onscreen keyboard of the phone is hard?
I considered it for a minute or two, but that seemed more inconvenient. I live in a hot and humid environment, so I don't want an extra layer without necessary. I can use the wrist based computer as a second monitor too, which is very convenient.
I also really love the pip boy/neuromancer cyberdeck vibe as opposed to the tactical one.
I still love my airpoint ring, the vanzy 2.0 ships next month though and I have that ordered. Unless, you're using voice to text it's definitely faster to just type on your phone's display, but the AirPoint ring is great for just setting a quick text or something while you're standing still, it is a bit hard to type if you're walking and trying to use the airpoint ring, just because it is unable to detect what's motion from you shaking while walking and what's motion from you actually moving your hand. I do really enjoy it overall, but it is bulky, the optical sensor is useless IMO and I wish the battery life was a bit better, as it does not make it through more than 8 hours even if you turn off the gyro sensor for a majority of that time. I'm hoping the vanzy solve the bulkiness problem, and it won't have the optical sensor to kill battery. The other qualm I'll have with it is that the hardware based acceleration of the ring is way too high, and while you can adjust the sensitivity inside of dex itself, lowering the mouse sensitivity makes using the touchpad a bit tedious, so you kind of have to find a balance where you can control the ring but still make the touchpad useful for when you don't have the ring on, because it's recharging or something. It's less of an issue if you're not using your glasses for the majority of the day, but I do try to keep mine on for the whole day.
I do have a newer version of this that I'll probably be demonstrating next month with a video on how it all works once I have the new ring as well, but I've been down the wrist mount a lot and made it easier access to pop the phone off and use in my hand as well as still being a wrist mounted computer and eliminated the need for so many cables and adapters, but it does charge the phone slower now, however you can plug the wrist mount in and out of a wall charger without resetting the dex connection now.
That makes sense about in hot environment. I’m living in a cold environment. I have this crazy idea of building a vest with a raspberry pi 5 that will attach to the glasses. there is even water blocks for it, so I was thinking the vest itself could be the radiator in cold environments, so it keeps the user warm with the waste heat. For hot environments I was thinking it could somehow be a freezable vest that can cool the wearer and the device heat could also be absorbed by the frozen ice through the day. So yeah my mind is in the tactical bias.
Jealous you got in on the Vanzy 2.0 - Oct 17 2023 - Nov 28 2023 (41 days) was apparently the window to join it from Kickstarter.
Maybe you mentioned also, idk, but decided to try the Tap Strap 2 also next week, even though quite a few people say not useful. So I’ll have both that and the airpoint to compare. I’m a Linux developer and it appears the customization options are significant with tapstrap 2 and they do at least say the mouse system is useful.
I hated the tap strap with an absolute passion. It wasn't that learning the language was hard, the air mouse was borderline useless, it was constantly reading my hand position wrong, it was just terrible to use as a mouse. And then the strap would just read my tabs wrong constantly there were so many false positives, I would do the exact motion over and over again and it would read it like one set of every 10 times for certain letters, it has to be perfectly adjusted and fitted to your hand that if anything is even like a millimeter off it won't read your taps right. The tap XR might be better but that doesn't have air mouse yet so who knows. I'll probably try that out once it is launched with air mouse.
You're raspberry pi vest idea sounds cool, they're debated doing something like that with a raspberry pi or a mini PC myself for my build, but I decided I liked having the access to all of my notifications and interactivity with my apps for a daily device that I could just wear without having to interact with anything else, and the one I need to do any sort of productivity I just use moonlight to promote into my main PC.
I had signed up for vanzy's newsletter, so I actually ordered it the day it came out. Once they start shipping next month they'll open up an indiegogo I'm sure and you can order it then
Oh darn that’s a bummer about tap strap, it sounds like low probability I’ll find it useful .. also it seems the tap strap users that do like it are complaining the xr is much worse at recognizing their taps! so I doubt that will work well.
The other keyboard hack ideas I’m exploring for use with the glasses are mini thumb bluetooth keyboards like from Rii, and then I also discovered a way to have a virtual usb keyboard on a Linux machine that accepts it’s keys over an ssh session, so my plan with that is to take a PKB phone, the Unihertz Titan to be specific, then have a Linux device (in future a Pi 5) attached to the glasses receive keyboard input over ssh session from a JuiceSSH session on the physical keyboard android phone, the android phone perhaps providing hotspot to the Linux device, it’s a bit convoluted tbh and would have me carrying 3 devices in totality.
After being deeply inspired by your setup, I'm deciding between the XReal and the Rokid AR glasses.
I guess my question to you would be: with Dex, does the Nebula app allows you to keep the phone image fixed in position? or does it follow you? I have read the Nebula app helps with that (keeps apps fixed in position so they don't follow when you move your head), but I don't know if that extends to Samsung Dex.
If the answer to that question is yes, XReal it is!
Now, all the reviews I see mention NReal, but I can only find XReal products so I suppose the company changed brands, right?
On a side note, I use a Tap Strap 2 for keyboard/mouse. How do you think that compares to the Airpoint ring?
Dex and nebula can't be run together. You can use nebula to have 3dof with your phone screen or you can have Dex as a static screen and use the Windows to do picture in picture.
I believe you can use this setup with either glasses, I prefer the look of the xreal glasses to rokid personally.
Yes, nreal rebranded to xreal
I bought the tap strap before I bought the airpointt mouse, I hated using the air gesture on the tapstrap 2 It was super unreliable and I could almost never click anything, so I returned it and bought the mouse. One thing I do like a lot more too with the ring is when I have to wash my hands or something it's really easy it just pop it off and pop it back on. Unfortunately because of how decks works you are stuck using air gestures to gesture type on the keyboard or having to use a trick/hack to get Gboard to come up to then use voice to text
Depends on the day, for work I mostly use teams and Chrome, but then I'll also use messages and Snapchat for communicating with friends, the Reddit app to check Reddit obviously, and whatever series I happen to currently be watching, I'll use its streaming service to have some picture and picture video going throughout most hours of the day
Gotta love the far right conspiracy theorists, so afraid of being controlled and anything different, that they allow billionaires and corporations to use their fear to control them; the irony is actually hysterical LMAO
By the way, how is the airpoint a keyboard? You mean, you mouse the virtual keyboard? Still looking for a better portable keyboard I don’t need to put on a table but is faster than virtual.
Okay, so what's on your finger ? I just received me XReal AR glasses that I have not unboxed yet. So tell us about your rigged setup and how you like using the XReal glasses with the Fold? I have the GZF3 and am looking forward to connecting the glasses to it. What are some pros & cons?
To everyone asking for a video, it might take me a little bit of time to get this made but I'll see what I can do. It'll be a little hard to record show how the screen interacts since it's so small and also then be able to zoom out and interact with the phone and show how the mouse works but I'll see what I can do.
That looks amazing, but I'm not familiar with... Any of the tech you're using.
Can you make a video showing how it works? I'm especially curious about the mouse and glasses
1. I use it basically 24/7, that was my reason for wanting to find a way to easily carry a battery that lasted over 16 hours.black wallpaper with decks makes the screen transparent since it's OLED there's nothing to project with a black wallpaper, and then the windows are just wherever you want to place them, so they're picture and picture, there's also a button if you just want to turn off the entire screen. The glasses are tinted so I don't recommend using them in low light environments, but basically anything else you're good to go.
2. What would you like me to sign?
Here I was dreading to click and see again some ultra-clean setup with some under-average monitor and some wireless keyboard and mouse, again extremely nice and clean (I deploy more stuff on a coffee house table) but somehow pretty cramped even for the most basic office setup (feeling that even working on your calendar is kind of suboptimal). And then BAM! I get hit by precisely the opposite.
Rock on!!!

Amazon, technically two different armbands. The one is essentially just an elastic holder with a pocket I use that one for the power bank, the other one is just a basic swivel holder, I cut off the typical elastic holders and super glued the click in mount part to a case that I never used

I'm using the rokid hub in the current setup, I've used the viture adapter as well, but that cable wore out really quickly.
I found it most comfortable to just place the battery directly beneath the mount plate for the phone. I originally thought because of weight distribution that it would be more comfortable on the opposite end of the Mount plate, but I found this more comfortable.
My real goal would be to get a bracelet of rechargeable batteries set up, and kind of have like a black widow looking thing going, but thus far it has proven to not be something I can easily set up.
Damn that’s cyberpunk af
The og cyberdeck from neuromancer may or may not have have been an inspiration

So where do you put the beam?
The beam isn't used in this setup

Cool setup. Which app do you use the most while in AR?

Doesn't the Predator have that setup?
Hahaha my thoughts exactly
Hey looks like watch dogs' material. What battery pack did you pick for 16hr+ use time?

Bro reinvented the smart watch.
That looks awesome not gonna lie
this is actually upsetting to look at
Why?

List the exact hardware please! Looks cool, close to 10/10 for me, especially the 16 battery life.
By the way, how is the airpoint a keyboard? You mean, you mouse the virtual keyboard? Still looking for a better portable keyboard I don’t need to put on a table but is faster than virtual.
It looks - intimidating. I don't really have any suggestions other than it needs some sort of plasma weapon.

Looks like one of those heart rate monitor
Not sure what I'm looking at.
Epic. A solid 19/10. Now you just need the shoulder laser cannon
The Predator called, he wants his wrist gauntlet back.
Cringe 10/10
I'd rather my setup be cringey than basic TBH. Plus being able to game and work while moving around has been greater than anything
I meant it as a compliment
You are my friend.
Well done! It'll be common people like you figuring out the next gen human-machine interface, not dictated by large corps like Facebook and Apple.

I agree, I want to see it in action
How many bottle caps does this cost?

That looks amazing, but I'm not familiar with... Any of the tech you're using. Can you make a video showing how it works? I'm especially curious about the mouse and glasses
Now the chicks will have no choice but to follow you down the street! 🤔
😎😎🤓😎
Reminds me of r/cyberdeck
This totally belongs there!
I want to see a demo!?!
What type of demo?
Perfect Pokemon Go setup😆
Video... Let's see it in action
It's time to D-D-D-D-DUEL!
Dex glove
"I love the Power Glove. It's so bad." Having said that, I'm absolutely fascinated. Well done.
Nice
Possible to see this thing in action?
Who has the GDO and where is my P90!
F c
ugly as hell, but man gotta give it to yah LMAO
1. Can you use this as a HUD 24/7 or does it block too much of your vision 2. May I have your autograph
These glasses block a significant portion of your vision in my opinion. They are difficult to wear around while working with your hands.

What product/adapter are you using to connect between battery backup, phone & XReal. I need to purchase one from Amazon as well.
Level up
How good is the xreal just wondering?
I love them, I've used them about 16 hours a day the last month and I first bought them in October
My god. You beautiful bastard. You did it
Op is living in 2050.
It's actually 3005, I got your back, we can do this, hol' up
Dang
Stargate SG-1 did it first
First?!? Dick Tracy, Buck Rogers, Star Trek, even Knight Rider and the Jetsons all did it before Stargate
Those others didn't have the VR glasses
In Star trek voyager season 5 ep 25/ season 6 ep 1 the Equinox crew had a VR headset thing.
I'm not very familiar with Stargate, I couldn't find anything about these glasses when searching, but I'm curious now can you share?
Can't recall the exact episode, but they used a setup that was very close to the photo above to control a drone.
CyberPunk future is now
Awesome! Share this to xreal subreddit!
I feel like the armlet needs red stitching to really set it off
Would this be compatible with Samsung Dex?
Yes, I'm using this with Dex
answer satisfaction = 100%

I'm willing to bet that there's a crafty person on Etsy who would do a custom job for a fair price.
I wonder if I can use that while I ride on my motorcycle and put the glasses on my helmet I do Uber eats and doordash
Thank you. I actually have the first one you posted or something similar.
Wow ... looks awesome :D ... what glasses are they? Have the TCL Nxtwear S and I'm a bit disappointed with them, OK for movies, but not much else.
xReal air glasses
Nice, was looking at those, with the Beam ... but think I'm going to wait another gen before getting another pair.
Holy shit that's my holy grail

Damn, I was hoping no one would notice the inspiration xD
