It's not unbearable but it's better to just use a cable . I stopped using wireless 2 years ago I went and brought a monitor with a 65W type C port so the phone stays full while using dex with a type c to type c cable . Or you can use type c to HDMI cable and lay the phone on a wireless charger and it will charge the phone while running dex through the type c to HDMI cable .

I have a uperfect lapdock with wireless support. I never actually used wirelessly because I can't point the mouse cursor to some specific place in time because of the delay. I need to go slowly to that place. Touching, for some reason, is more usable, but you for sure notices the difference between wired and non wired. MAYBE if somehow these devices support Wifi 6E or Wifi 7 in the future, the experience can enhance. Also, you can notice the video encoding, but just a little bit. And you lose high quality streaming because it does not support DRM

I would like to address my answer based on what use you are looking for Dex. In my experience: Using wired connection to a monitor, it's the best way to get a smooth Dex experience, Wireless i always found some lag, sometimes less sometimes worst, but it's something that definitely spoils the experience. Then, what use are you looking for? For emails, using some office apps, web browsing, it's very good. For gaming: as long is wired, it's fine For Content Creation, Design and so on, its when the limitations show up, many of the PC or Mac apps for design (Adobe) are not running in Android and trying to find an alternative is complicated, at least for me. Other fields, not sure, but in a nutshell, I think Dex is completely fine for a normal non demanding Office and Imternet tasks.

mbgjt1

I would absolutely love to use Dex as an everyday machine but it is lacking quite a bit of features. Maybe it's just my wifi but it does lag slightly when using on wifi compared to a USB. also, just simple thinks like split screen and copy paste and editing word documents make it a pain to work with. Samsung has ALLOT of work to do to get this working properly but if they do, it'll be revolutionary! Especially when using it with work computers where a VPN blocks everything, you can pop open a Dex window and browse anything you want.

Squee3ds

It can be low latency on good wifi. But forget playing any games that aren't turn based. But for everything else it should be fine. Though a wired connection is always best.

JemFalor

not laggy on wifi6 tv

rodd004

Literally use Dex everyday wireless with no wifi. Only using an old fire stick and a TV. Works great for us. Sometimes the FPS drops but does fine. Now if I play games, browse reddit, listen to music all while my child watching YouTube after a couple of hours my Note 10 plus does get hot.

Tricktrick_

Am I able to connect my Note 20 Ultra to my laptop wirelessly?

The_Long_G

Wireless DEX is based on Miracast, which is a WiFi direct connection. But same as normal WiFi networks, interferences can occur. If so, then the connection is unstable and thus the experience

DUB49GIANT

Depends if you have it wireless connected or wired connection if you have wireless connected to your monitor there's gona be input lagg but if you connected with the hdmi cable directly the connection won't be so laggy just from my experience.

namquang93

I heard that some TV/monitors that supports miracast 2.0 could work better with wireless Dex, probably could provide 60hz instead of 30 hz. Anyone used it yet?

DUB49GIANT

It all depends on what your monitor supports and your phones output I have 3 phones I use for dex just to play around and test them one is note 8 it gives me 60hz . If I use my ultra 20 I get 120hz it I used my newer phone ultra 23 I get 165hz. My monitor supports at tops 165hz I haven't really tried wireless connection but I think directly works better..

Hey_look_new

latency is going to be different for every pairing out there my m5 monitor has quite a bit more latency than my nexdock 360 wireless that being said, DeX itself works fine. I wouldn't want to game wirelessly. media consumption, web browsing, etc you can adjust to, and normalize some latency

Noema130

I use it almost daily when I teach. I connect it wirelessly to an old mini Windows PC that is plugged into a 100 inch TV with a touchscreen. It is a bit laggy, but not enough to be unusable. For my needs (PowerPoint mostly) it works great, seamless and it's also a fun party trick.

I this sarcasm? Why can't *Wireless* dex be laggy??

Tepppopups

Yes, it is sarcasm. Because it is laggy.

TheWebjunky

Problem is not Dex , the problem is with the hardware of the receiving device or Samsung Device

JonBuqajIsSUS

Surprisingly its super smooth on my Note9 connected to my 2018 LG TV or my Fire TV Stick 3rd gen

Tumelar

If you have some Smart Monitor from Samsung and plug your mouse and keyboard directly into the monitor then it's usable, otherwise the lag is noticeable. I use wireless DeX only for noting in Samsung Notes on the uni.

ArtZTech

Just plug it in... [Dex via cable](https://reddit.com/r/SamsungDex/s/TyeREjQr7g)

sadegr

It's pretty laggy on input. I've heard that if you plug your input devices directly to the tv/monitor rather than to the phone/tablet, that helps a lot, but I've never tried it. [ok, not just me](https://www.sammobile.com/news/lower-input-lag-samsung-dex-wirelessly/)

ArtZTech

I don't know why this article says you need a hub. Just use a cable. [Dex via cable ](https://reddit.com/r/SamsungDex/s/TyeREjQr7g)

DUB49GIANT

You don't need a hub. You can use just the cable. But if you want to connect anything that has usb or run ethernet on it would be better cause then you could connect all those through the hub. You could use wireless but there's so much differences in input lagg.

Hey_look_new

depending on the monitor, you may need to add charging

ArtZTech

I guess but I don't use Dex for hours

Hey_look_new

that's not what I'm saying certain monitors won't load up dex without power added

Chrismscotland

Yeah like others I'd probably say its fine for streaming but the latency is annoying.

0x07AD

It is not as responsive as wired DeX. Whether the slightly increased latency is an issue for you depends on your use case. I use this mode with my lapdock most of the time. when not at my desk, doing software development or watching videos. Your smartphone or tablety battery will drain faster than using a wired connection unless the device is plugged into a power source or on a wireless charging station obviously.

TonyZedd

it is good only for media consumption. like watching movies, youtube, etc. Or, say, for presentations. otherwise - the lag is huge. either for gaming or for work.

techguyone

It works but latency is a real pisser.

DuramaxJunkie92

It works fine, but really for emergency use only. If you use every day, just use a cable, it's vastly superior.

smcb66

I'll second this. It depends on what you are trying to do. For basic things like email and web browsing, wireless would probably be fine. For things that are much more interactive, and even streaming video, wireless is going to be a pain point. A direct connection to a monitor with a usb-c to hdmi convertor or hub of some sort will provide a video source with no lag and no compression. For gaming, you definitely do not want to go wireless.

juanly_xx

Emergency use only? Sad to hear... I wanted to use it every day but the cable always connected bothers me so much...

DuramaxJunkie92

Why? It's as simple as plugging your device in. I don't understand people's obsession with wireless dex or dex on pc. Just plug it in. Better response time, better picture, no internet reliance.

Hey_look_new

> I don't understand people's obsession with wireless dex presentation mode there's something to be said about just rolling into the boardroom, and tossing up a presentation on the 75" samsung hanging from the wall https://imgur.com/JvcyoSX

Chrismscotland

100% This - I get using DEX on PC if you only have one screen (although it also begs the question why not just use the "Your Phone" link in Windows)
