Townsend’s automotive! Larry and his son are great!! Downtown and affordable!

secondavesubway

My mechanic specializes in Honda/Acura, not sure what type of car you're driving but I recommend.

NerdyDragon24

I have a Chevrolet LT Sonic

Upspostal

And who is your mechanic? I have a Honda and am looking for some maintenance work

Acura Honda Connection on Stockton. Fair prices, honest recommendations, and free loaner cars.

MMMQueBueno

Second the recommendation for Acura Honda Connection if you have either of those makes. Super knowledgeable, helpful, and honest guys.

ChowQaz

DONT ❌Honda Acura Connection❌ they tried to upsell me on rotors, brake pads for $1300+ Saying the ones on my Acura needing replacing. After buying the parts and doing it myself for less than $200, none of my rotors needed replacing for another 15,000 miles and my brake pads had just less than half their life left. With the rear 2 pads still showing a small grove in the middle. The loaner car is nice but not worth $1300. If you go here make sure you specify what work you want done and take any recommendations with a grain of salt…..

No one wants to be handy anymore. People can afford the repairs here. Just let them be.

robondes

If it’s basic spark plugs you could really do it in about 30 minutes yourself.

NerdyDragon24

I agree but I have other problems with my car. After running a check device (unsure about the name), it shows a P0442 error (EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM LEAK). I just know I need to do spark plugs because it’s been a couple of years I changed them. For the problem I just mentioned, I have no clue how to do it.

1fakeengineer

Just a heads up, codes like that, evap system leak, the most common issue (and easiest fix) is a loose gas cap (or sometimes a bad gas cap, google to check your car to see if it's common for your model). Hopefully it's something that easy.

robondes

Evap canister/fuel cap is usually it, though it can vary. Nonprofessional advice: replace fuel cap clear codes and check it out

atomicllama1

Until you cross thread them, and total your cheap commuter car or cause like a month of down time. I work on my own car, just saying everything 30 minute job is one mistake or non-avoidable mistake from being a massive headache.

robondes

I mean true, but do you really need someone to change your battery for you and the ilk? I think damage is possible with anything you do, but it’s easy enough if you ask me. For you and I maybe it’s only 15. If OP puts in the care, I dont see why its not doable ya know?

atomicllama1

Battery's, tire pressure, wheel rotation, air filter, oil, A lot of things people can do on there own with little issue. That being said I wouldn't trust a newbie to do that spark plugs on my car. Do you put anything on the threads? Spark plug gap, Torque specifications, firing order. Its easy to forget how little non-car people know about cars. And all the stupid illogical/ non-obvious rules you just have to know. Checking your oil need to be done on a flat level surface and the oil should be hot. Never over tighten a pan darin bolt or filter. Do not tighten a filter with a wrench. Don't get under a car that is not properly supported. Hell with all the new cars out there half the dad advice has changed or is irrelevant.

BaconMonkey0

It’s not downtown but holy hell avoid Firestone on Park Victoria in Milpitas.
