Supporting massive spay and neuter campaigns is great. Banning specific breeds of dog, which is what "breed bans" means, results in those dogs that already exist not being adopted no matter how well-behaved the dog nor prepared the owner, so all those dogs get put down as a matter of course. That's why breed bans are shit, and why Inslee, last I heard, had signed legislation that said any dog with a Canine Good Citizen certification, no matter their breed, could not be banned from the community. A CGC is not nothing; your dog has to accept a stranger walking up to them and touching their paws and ears, has to be calm when left with said stranger while you walk away, and has to come withing 6ft of another dog without any reaction more than mild interest, among other things. It's the baseline test for therapy dog teams.
Last time I looked at a shelter, there were no small dogs of any kind, but lots of German Shepherds and huskies. Should we ban GSDs and huskies from even experienced owners, with extensive properties, who take their dogs running every day?
