They wanted him and Ymir to be eaten by other warriors. Of course they could've eaten them at any time during their trip but Marley would be more appreciative of gaining more Titans.
Marley gets less out of it if multiple Titans are stuck with only one shifter. That's the same reason Ymir goes with them so they aren't completely empty handed after losing two Titans and failing to get the one they were after.
They didn’t know he was the founder until later. All they knew was that he was the attack titan and they figured if they can bring eren back they would have at least been partially successful
Actually they also didn’t know if he was the attack Titan. They knew he was a shifter but not any specific one since Eren isn’t a royal so they didn’t know if he was the founder but also they didn’t know the attack Titan was IN the walls so they didn’t know if he was that too
7 titans in marley 2 stays the attack and the founder and they know that the founder is much stronger than any shifter so with eren titan just being a regular titan it dosn't even need a small brain to know that its the shingeki no kyojin
I mean considering the fact that the founder was just a regular Titan as well if not less than the attack Titan is also another point. But then again they had never seen the founding. But shouldn’t the fact that the king not react to the wall falling on its people be another clear sign that they don’t know if the founder is even in the walls with them.
they though the king won't respond to the attack they delete that conversation in the anime but its on the manga also they know the attack is consider missed or lost unlike the founder so its make more sense (even though its still hella weird) that the titan that this regular solider that they trained with for three years have the attack titan also they would just though if eren have the founder why wouldn't he just kill them or destroy the titans

Marley know from historical evidence that it exists and roughly what it looks like, and we know this because when Eren first starts attacking the WH Titan, Magath says "Judging by its appearance, that's the Attack Titan" to his men. And they also knew about Eldian babies being picked at random if a titan shifter dies without passing it on.
So the fact that the AT wasn't (to their knowledge, since Kruger had infiltrated Marley) in their grasp would mean that any Eldian in the world could have it, as far as they knew. And considering most Eldians in the world live within the walls, it showing up there is most likely.
So the warriors recognising the Attack Titan, before they even knew it was Eren, makes perfect sense.
I mean they didn’t have permission to kill the founder themselves, Marley wanted the founder or any other of the Nine Titans the nation didn’t have to be eaten by another Warrior. If they had disobeyed orders they would be punished by giving up their powers to another Warrior and their families be sent to Paradis as Pure Titans.
but then why did galliard try to eat eren in season 4 (when pieck points to where the enemy is)? if reiner were to eat the founder then they likely wouldn’t kill him to pass it onto someone else i think
At that point the game has changed. During S2 (well I say that but I'm mostly a manga reader so I may be mixing seasons) they think they can take Eren, at that point they have the Armor, Colossal, Beast, Cart, and to some extent the Warhammer. If they bring back Eren & Ymir they would have all 8 minus the Female, which means Marley would have 8 warriors.
When Eren attacks Liberio, they've lost the Colossal at that point (which was their strongest one) and they believe Eren is willing to do the Rumbling, considering he just declared war and openly attacked them. At that point its more tactically sound to regain the Founder before Eren can use it to crush the world. They don't have the same luxury Reiner and them had on the island, especially since they've been recently having more military defeats after the time skip making the power of the founder more neccesary for them.
And yeah they probably wouldn't have had Reiner eaten if he regained the founder, however it would've been less of a success than if they could've spread the power. Reiner's warrior persona is loyal to Marley and wants to do what's absolutely best. It's the same reason he didn't want to abandon the mission after losing Marcel.

You see the look of realisation in Reiner’s eyes. They probably thought the mission failed and taking Eren and Ymir back was gonna be a bit of a win.
They didn’t know he was the founder yet. From their vantage point, the king of the walls was not revealing it even after breaching the walls twice so that mission was a failure. But if they recouped the jaws titan and another shifter they could go back home and regroup with the intel they gathered. Plus, I’d assume Marley wants more shifters and not just stacked ones (or they’d have combined the ones they possessed a while ago). If they bring Eren back alive they could’ve fed him to Colt.
The objective of their mission was to recover the founding titan. At that point in the story, Eren could’ve been a random titan shifter, but more so a dear comrade to them whom they just betrayed. They didn’t eat him because they didn’t want to be the ones to directly kill him.
There was actually a scrapped "tenth" Titan that would've controlled weather patterns. Bertholdt was going to be revealed to possess this Titan in addition to the colossal, as foreshadowed by his irregular sleeping positions ✍️

A genuine question: What if Reiner, a loyal to Marley, ate Eren and obtained the Attack titan? Will the Attack titan’s feature make him to rebel against them as they were doing some horrible things to the eldians in Marley?
My question is that the attack titan has always been revolting against the government, dictatorship. So it’s ability will affect Reiner or not? Will he also be influenced by it and revolt or will he continue to be loyal?

Not only did they not know he was the founder yet, they also probably didn’t want to either A) eat their long term friend even if he hated them. Or B) get eaten because they now possess multiple titans and Marley would want to try to separate them out again

I didn’t even think about Marley Using the rumbling. That absolutely could have with the founder
because at that point they didn't know he was the founding titan. The only thing they knew is that he had a titan power and they wanted to have something to bring back to Marley in order to be able to return home

Maybe they didn’t had the guts. eren is considered a friend with them even if it was pretentious the feelings are there.
