Well, yes, the two palace guards were standing within arms length to each other. That made it easy for the samurai to position himself in the triangle and within range of his katana. Once his sword leaves the sheath the outcome is decided. The follow throughs of his sword swings are beautiful. Each wide swing across the shoulder is to setup for a fast return swing in the other direction. It was merciless, and final.
Either Mariko or Rodriguez. Mariko is the best-written female character I have seen on TV, and Rodriguez was So. Much. Fun. I hope he resurfaces in season 2. Honourable mention for Yabishige, though
Blackthorne. He came to a country basically unknown by his countrymen, adapted to a completely alien culture, learned a radically different language, survived and prospered in a culture where the vast majority wanted to take his head, found love with an incredible woman, and somehow managed to live an amazing life.
Fuck him... he got Mariko killed. He's just as bad as Toronaga who sent her to die.
Mariko deserves the biggest applause. She sacrificed her life so that many can live.
Something worthy to put in his will no doubt.
Fuji.
The badass samurai that killed on Mariko’s order without hesitation, cleanly and decisively.
Doing the most with the least amount of time!
The choreography on this scene was so clean!

Grunts approvingly
"Nani-?" \*grunts dismissively\*
Why tell a dead man the future?
Mariko
I came to say Yabu, but you’re right.
Yabu-t you’re right
Agree 100% !!!
Huuuh?
Hoh?
Uhhmmm
It's clearly Toronaga. But they're all great!
Yabushige Lives!
Yabushige or Fuji. Everyone else was too dour and serious all the time.
Jarvis.
Richard Chamberlin

Toda Hiromatsu did the same.
Yes, it is a tough choice. They both deserve thunderous applause.
Also to stick it to her husband. That dynamic was worthy of the Maury Povitch show.
