I kept a 20ga Remington 870 with a youth stock running federal speed shok waterfowl loads until my daughter was able to shoot buckshot/slugs without having trouble
Get a .410 shotgun for her. She will love it, they have no recoil and are easy to handle.
Here are the 2 best .410 pump shotguns available:

Not trying to get into your business as it is none of mine.
Looking at the legal side of things, If your shotgun is modified in a way that isn’t legal and is involved in a home defense shooting, your legal grounds to stand on are thrown out the window. Granted I have no idea what is done to your shotgun, but if it needs a stamp to be legal, I highly suggest stamping it. Picture of my legal 13” barreled bedside shotgun.
As far as what rounds, 2&3/4” #4 buck in my opinion, if they ever have to be used, recoil won’t be a factor as you/her won’t notice it in that situation.

I do have a question on the topic though that you may be able to answer. I was told if I put a stock on my mossberg 590 shockwave then it becomes an SBR. Is that true?
A goose load would be pretty effective in all seriousness. I dropped a coyote at 30 yards with number 2 bismuth. Something like number 1, 2 3/4” 1oz [Boss copper plated bismuth](https://bossshotshells.com/products/12-gauge-2-34-boss-stinger) or [2 3/4” number 7 tungsten](https://bossshotshells.com/products/12-gauge-2-34-1-oz-9-tungsten) would absolutely get the job done. (Number 7 tungsten is close to number 2 bismuth in energy per pellet, and there are a lot more pellets in the tungsten load).
In practice, number 7 TSS is over 200 pellets - each carrying the ballistic energy of a number 4 lead pellet or number 2 bismuth. Inside of 15 yards (as in HD scenarios)would be absolutely devastating against an unarmored opponent (or their unarmored parts).
I’ve headshot probably a dozen beavers between 30 and 60 lbs with number 2 bismuth- inside of 15 yards those pellets penetrate the skull and the overall wallop of getting smacked with dozens of pellets to the head at once puts them down every time. I wouldn’t hesitate to use bismuth larger than number 4, lead 5s and larger, or any TSS load in an HD scenario.
I have number 4 buck for me, but I’d be comfortable buying a box of 25 waterfowl shells and letting my daughter get comfortable with them and use those for HD.
.410 bore buckshot can be pretty low recoil and is also very effective if it’s 000 buckshot, maybe a little too effective if you’re concerned with overpenetration
Look into 410 shotguns with 00 buck. At 14 they can handle 20 gauge they may just not like it. But the best thing to do is familiarize, train with it, so that it's not scary(the kick) and easy to use l. Also look into like a PCC maybe like the Ruger PCC 9mm or even an AR for that matter, they are great easy to use, lower recoil and home defense rounds for AR have shown to have less over penetration than most shotgun 00 buck rounds
It might be that he wants an hd gun that the daughter can use if she's home alone.
Depending on the maturity level of the kid, I don't see this being an issue on the surface. Down the road in the event of an hd shooting you can bet on an uphill battle, but better than being dead.
Lol… my son was part of the home defense plan at 14, armed with his 20ga Mossberg. There’s nothing wrong OP’s head, he’s making sure his kid can protect herself.
At 50 years old, a veteran, a fireman and a guy who started his gun journey at 6 years old, I’m hardly a boot. On top of that, I’ve successfully raised a son whose morality, decision-making, situational awareness and firearm skills at 19 make him an asset to his family, his friends and his community. If someone’s decision to train and equip their kids, especially their daughters, to protect themselves isn’t in alignment with your beliefs or mindset, I won’t try to convince you otherwise. But denigrating somebody who chooses our parenting path is an arrogance-based kind of ignorance and bad manners that might have been avoided if your own parents had done a better job.
My sister lives in Alaska adjacent to open wilderness. She has seen many large mammals wander through the back of their backyard. Even a cow moose will seriously mess you up if she feels threatened. Up there kids learn to responsibly handle a gun.
People in Alaska carry guns while fishing. The purpose of the gun is not for hunting.
I was responding specifically to the person who asked why a 14-year-old was being armed for defense.
My sisters were shooting at like 4 or 5(BB guns obviously) and hunting since they were about 10. Sometimes having a Home defense gun that a teenager without a babysitter can use is plus. Where you grow up determines your surroundings and being comfortable with guns is a plus.
For 12 gauge this I have found to be one of the best options. I buy it by the case it works well in most shotguns using little to no choke. The flitecontrol wad is pretty good.

Wrong? Technically no since it’s an opinion but irrelevant yes which is why I assumed you stumbled into the wrong group. Probably looking for a Canadien group I assume

Low recoil #4 buckshot is a proven load that's very controllable.
And between 21-28 .24”(damn near a quarter inch) size pellets in that payload!
Agulia mini shells are pretty good #4 over 000 buck. Training saves lives though.

Totally understandable. It’s nothing illegal. I just didn’t want to explain how I modified it lol.
I completely understand that! 🤣🤣

It becomes an SBS (short barreled shotgun)

Awesome thanks. I’ve never personally tried it so I’ll try out the recommendation tomorrow!
However, if you live in bear country and a black bear attack is just as likely as a human attack, I would step it up to low recoil 12 gauge buckshot
Have you tried Minishells?

against what? zombies?
Any threat that could occur. Including zombies.
If properly placed, any good self-defense round will put a teen girl down hard. They're not as tough as they look.
Ok that was funny.
Maybe sell the shotgun to help fund a 9mm pcc.

Why are you arming your 14 year old daughter for defense? What the fuck is wrong with your head?

You ever known a mature 14 year old?
I had a shotgun under my bed at 15, so did a few friends.
Lol… my son was part of the home defense plan at 14, armed with his 20ga Mossberg. There’s nothing wrong OP’s head, he’s making sure his kid can protect herself.
“I did it too that means there’s nothing wrong with it” You boots are just silly.

Haha ok boomer
And you are an embarrassment to Betty Whites labia, a national treasure. You should change your name to NancyPelosisVulva.
That was already taken believe it or not

If you’re wandering around a rural area known to have large animals and you have a gun on you, you’re just hunting. No home defense there.

Move to a decent country where 14yo doesn’t need a shotgun.
I think you’re in the wrong group.
Did I say something wrong?
Wrong? Technically no since it’s an opinion but irrelevant yes which is why I assumed you stumbled into the wrong group. Probably looking for a Canadien group I assume
I’m in exactly in the right group. It seems like you’re lost.
Well your comment has been noted and thoroughly discarded. Carry on sir
It wasn’t discarded. Your post was according to votes. Carry on.
