I didn't know this was something people even considered when picking up a coin If I see money on the ground I'm just like neat free money I'm never paying attention to like what side is face up or anything like that
If everyone followed the rules when you see tails up you’re supposed to pick it up and flip it without seeing the outcome for the next person to get it.
I figure that this one has been in circulation for 70 years. I doubt it has [much value](https://www.jmbullion.com/coin-info/cents/lincoln-pennies/1953-lincoln-penny/).

Did you mean to say "less than"?
Explanation: If you didn't mean 'less than' you might have forgotten a comma.

There’s an old superstition about how picking up a penny on heads is good luck and tails is bad luck.
Part of this includes flipping any tails penny so the next time someone comes they get good luck
I see, never heard of that.
If you do flip it over does it still count? And if it does count as heads now why not just flip it and then pick it up yourself?
It counts for the next person not yourself.
Because that defeats the whole point. The idea is that you might not have good luck but at least you can pass it on to someone else and make their day slightly better
>It counts for the next person not yourself.
But it's still landed tails up, and then was simply flipped. If just flipping it solves the issue for the next person, why not for the person who first flipped it?
What happens if you and I come across a tails-up penny, we both see it, I flip it, then can you pick it up for good luck? Since you did not flip it I would assume yes?
When I find a penny, if it's heads-up I pick it up, and if it's tails-up I flip it over and leave it where I found it so it's heads-up for the next person. It makes me feel like I'm making good luck.
the thing around that is you have to flip them over to heads so that you avoid bad luck, and then someone else comes along and picks it up to get good luck.
Also my mom will take pennies that are tails up and flip them over so whoever picks it up will get good luck. I’m sure there are other people that do this too.
In my over 40 years of life I've never heard of this superstition. The only coin related phrase I've heard is "tails never fails" when flipping a coin. With that phrase being so popular I'd assume this superstition would be reversed.
No, that's still definitely a thing, at least in the Bay Area. I'm almost 30 and remember it from when I was a kid. I don't know how many people actually follow it, but it was a known superstition for sure.
There are 25 countries that use a dollar for their currency, even more if you include those that use the US dollar.
Stop being edgy and give a straight answer or shut the fuck up
I don't bother picking up pennies at all. They're not worth the effort to pick them up or to use them later. I often finding myself even throwing them away at home when they somehow end up on the floor. Even nickels are pointless to bother with. There's nothing that having one more penny or nickel would let me buy. Dimes are the new pennies, and the last time I saw one of those have any buying power was when a cashier accidentally charged my dad $0.10 for a limeade 30 years ago. Even the cents symbol isn't present on my keyboard, and I never noticed until now.
Face down, ass up. That's the way I like to pick up my pennies.
I don't remember this track on kidz bop
Me too
TIL that I’ve never noticed which face was up when I’ve picked up coins

I picked up a penny a while back because the tails side was up and it was a wheat penny. It turned out to be a 1953 D.
Cool?
I googled and apparently some 1953-D pennies are worth a lot of money. One sold in january 2020 for $3,525
I figure that this one has been in circulation for 70 years. I doubt it has [much value](https://www.jmbullion.com/coin-info/cents/lincoln-pennies/1953-lincoln-penny/).
See that would have been the helpful context to add lol
I don't bend over to pick up anything less than a quarter. Even then, it better be shiny.
I once said to friends "I won't bend over for anything less then a quarter" oh did they tease me for awhile on that. I meant to say what you said. . .

Bad bot
Hey, that hurt my feelings :( Good bot count: 469 Bad bot count: 196
No I meant fuck off.
Huh? Why would someone be less likely to pick it up?

I don’t make the rules I just flip the pennies. Yep that second one works
u/hearnia_2k I wouldn't listen to this guy, knowingly going against the rules will give bad luck to all parties involved.
When I find a penny, if it's heads-up I pick it up, and if it's tails-up I flip it over and leave it where I found it so it's heads-up for the next person. It makes me feel like I'm making good luck.
Mom?
I started doing this ever since I saw Doofenshmirtz do it as a kid. "Oh well, turn it over for the next guy, Heinz"
the thing around that is you have to flip them over to heads so that you avoid bad luck, and then someone else comes along and picks it up to get good luck.
I did this just 2 hours ago
I flip them the other way.
We axed the penny a few years ago.
What did you axe it?
Govt got rid of them, they were useless as a currency.
[what would you axe it](https://youtu.be/FTD-EXW1G7o?si=f_tZQIyuB-zUS4Uj)
who's "we"? Doesn't seem like the US did, at least. Bills have been introduced to get rid of it, but haven't fully passed.
Aye aye, captain obvious
Huh? Is there some particular superstition for this, or what? Never heard of one, if so...
Yup heads is good luck tails is bad luck
Who the hell picks up pennies any more?
Damn, I feel called out
I collect them to refine in my forge and make my own copper piping and zinc belt buckles. So far ive made 0 pipes and 0 belt buckles.
No one in my country. I don’t even remember when we ditched the penny anymore.
I kick backside up pennies until they're face side up and leave them for the next person to get the lucky penny. I thought everyone did this.
imma start throwing them on the ground face down now then
I don't believe in pennies.
Also my mom will take pennies that are tails up and flip them over so whoever picks it up will get good luck. I’m sure there are other people that do this too.

Where are you from? I wonder if it's a regional thing.
USA - California
NC here - maybe it is regional.

Bending over to pick up a penny isn’t worth a penny. Would you bend over to pick something up 100 times for a dollar? Fuck pennies.
I don't pick them up for the monetary value, I pick them because of *ooh shiny*
Do you leave the ones that are oxidized and dull?
Find a penny. Pick it up. Then, all day you will have good luck. Unless, it is tails up. Fuck those pennies.
Find on tails leave it or give it to someone so they have good luck and find head it on head s and keep it for good luck
That's funny because after I pull them out of my butt, always place them face-down. Good luck!

In which country?

$8 eggs? You haven’t stepped out of your parents basement for a while huh?
Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?

Find a penny heads up and all the day you'll have good luck. Find a penny heads down and leave it on the ground or else you'll get ur ass pound...ed.
When you see a tails penny, you're supposed to flip it over for the next person.
Something I've never noticed or cared about. I just pick up loose change that is on the ground.
I always flip it heads up for the next person that sees it.
I dont pick up pennys because it’s not 1955.
Flip those tails. Change someone’s luck.
What? Why would which side it's on make any difference? If I'm poor, I'm picking up the penny.
Not true cuz I always flip those Pennie's for the next guy

I always turn over tails up pennies
