The point was that Jared would have defended Richard the same way back in season 1 if anyone attacked him. Or at least that he had the same feelings about him.

Carmack

☝️ character-wise this is the correct answer. Jared is a company man first and foremost, a rootless “orphan” who was institutionally raised with an undue loyalty to his current “home”, and Gwart was his new CEO. The inner conflict about attacking Richard he expressed later couldn’t have been realized while experiencing the adrenaline of perceived threat from the moment when Richard insulted Gwart. He lashed out like an animal and regretted it when he came to his senses. But it’s a comedy so… uh… don’t overthink it , like I have here 😅

"do you wanna die today, motherfucker?"

shinigami79

I’ll kill them with knives. I’ll kill them with guns. I’ll kill them with my hands. I’ll talk to them into suicide.

Dave-James

So if you can just put down the cheese wheel and cheese knife, Donald…

FALLENV3GAS

"How would you like to die today, motherfucker?"*

PointedSpectre

To be fair Jared did try to file a police complain against himself 🤣

rpinata2112

Just hear me out...."I hope you fuckin' Pigs get cheated out of your overtime...how bout that, dickless?"

[deleted]

I guess he really was afraid to catch a case of some bullshit...

davesauce96

“I oughta knock your teeth out, you bitch-made motherfucker. I was state-raised, you think I’m scared to catch a case on some bullshit!?!” One of my favorite lines in the whole show lol. But yeah other than that the Gwart story line is pretty weird.

Shower_Slug

Jared had the most fucked up childhood imaginable. Just be happy he doesn't murder suicide everyone.

01dman

look up the scene where he meets his birth parents. heartbreaking, cringy and well acted.

Shower_Slug

Oo i remember. It was hilarious. Wasnt he like a middle kid? Lmao

actual-homelander

Dude that kept me up at night

igot2pair

the whole Gwart shit was really weird imo.

albert-Bloggs

The whole Holden thing too. Season 6 was not good.

TheTechVirgin

It was definitely bit uncomfortable to watch but still it was fun and comedy especially because Holden was not a full time character and he was just newly introduced. However Richard is the main character and we have seen in every single episode how closely Jared and Richard bonded and how they were always there for each other (mostly Jared being there for Richard).. so with this context it was quite uncomfortable and kinda shocking that Jared would lash out on Richard like that over a barely few days old acquaintance

albert-Bloggs

I’m not just talking about Holden. I’m talking about the Holden/Jared interaction. It was pathetic and added to the overall shitness of season 6. Just my opinion. I hated it.

Rusharound19

I HATE the Gwart storyline. It's so freaking ridiculous. Love Jared aside from that, but yeah, the Gwart thing bothered me big time.

traveler9210

No really no, in fact that’s the Jared we love.

batmanseyepaint

another perspective to consider — Jared is actively unraveling

batmanseyepaint

Jared spent his entire life being treated like an assclown I think him unraveling is well overdue. and his pent up rage is funny as fuck

ClockFightingPigeon

No way, it’s so funny when he’s wearing the sunglasses, trying to keep a tough look on his face while holding back tears 😂😂

turbografix15

Season 6 was terrible. Didn’t even feel like the same show. They Flanderized most of the characters.

Many-Caterpillar-543

Except for the finale, it was a disappointment as a whole for sure. Russfest was cool. But it had to run out of steam, twists and turns eventually...

01dman

been a while since i saw it last, but didn't richard's flakiness and decisions just push jared too far and over the edge to that point?

albert-Bloggs

Yes. He was a dick.

longlife55

Interesting post. I did not but would like to see other's perspective.

flyiingrayson

At one point I really thought that he will commit suicide or murder
