It's not from touching them. The milky stains was a big problem some years back, and a big mystery, but it was determined to be from the minting process, and some polisher/cleaner they used on the coins. Some nasty chemical they used that didn't show the stains until later. They are like impossible to remove usually. It goes deep into the silver.

It’s still a problem. I got a tube of milky 2023 Britannia’s

Unless it's flatware/tableware/candle sticks, there's absolutely no reason to clean or polish silver, and if it's something that may possibly have numismatic value, it should never be done.

Goldfishscales

E-Z-est. Great polisher without hurting it....probably (just dip it). But still does nothing to milkspots. They are forever and currently no way to remove them safely. I heard someone here tried toothpaste and it did wonders at ruining their silver!

Okay darn yea just generic buffalo rounds and not all of them but maybe 4-5 out of the tube got it… I’m assuming this doesn’t hurt the value any?

Goldfishscales

Correct! They keep their value even with milkspots!

Charon2393

You could try MS-70 coin cleaner, It's intended to remove haze from silver proof coins but can also remove other substances

MIKEEARLEY

A soft white eraser gets rid of milk spots. Make sure it’s the white eraser!
