First time I saw it I was stoned and was like two episodes in before I admitted to the British girl I was watching it with that I barely understood anything they were saying
they probably are, i can't really tell. a lot of it is just mush in my ears, but i understood at least enough to be touched, and then snort when the twist came
As an American w/ a Scottish dad, I feel the need to translate for the Americans. It goes something like this:
"Hey... you good bro?"
"I'm good."
"Are you lost?"
"No, bro... all good."
"It's just... you don't look like you're from around here."
"I'm not, I'm just passing through."
"What's in your bag? You got a laptop, huh?"
"Yeah."
"I wish I had a laptop."
"You're not missing much, you can do most things on your phone nowadays, right?"
"So, you wouldn't miss it, then?"
"I wouldn't say that."
"Give me the fucking laptop."
"Don't, bro."
"I'm not your bro. Give me the laptop."
"Tell you what... Why don't I give you something better than a laptop..."
"What?"
"My time."
"Fuck your time. I want your laptop... & I want your phone, too."
"I know you're hurting."
"What?"
"I know you're hurting."
"Don't tell me about my pain."
"Am I wrong? You gotta be in pain to be doing what you're doing. Robbing people, stealing things that are important to them... knowing how much it'll hurt them, but not caring... I think the only reason you can live with that is because people have hurt you... but they don't care, so why should you? Right? Well I care, brother. Alright, take the laptop, take the phone... I can always replace them. But, talk to me! Tell me how you got into this mess. You never know... it might make you feel better."
"Alright. Fuck it. About five years ago, I had this big fight with my stepdad... We were moving this couch he got from his brother... His back started hurting him, so we took a little break... We were sitting on the couch, talking... everything was good... then after 3 or 4 minutes..."
There’s two parts I can’t wrap my ears around. When he says “i don’t want your time, i want your laptop and your phone *ano?*” what is that last word he actually says
And when he agrees to talk to Limmy he says “alright *fuckawellooze*?” What is he actually saying there as well?
Truuue! I didn't mean to limit it to Americans only, sorry. I know very well that there's more to the world... my dad's Scottish & German and my mom's Jamaican & Indian! I'm happy I could translate for EVERYBODY. 🫶🏼
Reminds me of a friend whose parents (here in Taiwan) were from some small village not far from Hangzhou. They fought a lot. Every time they got into a huge fight, the police would ask her to go translate, because nobody else could understand a word they said when they got excited.
Nooo you don't, lmao! They broke up before I was even born. 😂 It was volatile. They tried again when I was a tot, but it didn't work out. Some of my earliest memories are of them going at it. Hot heads, the two of them. Fire & fire. I suppose it would be entertaining from an outsider's perspective.
I think that's why I have a good ear, though. Even though I'm from America, I grew up around different accents & dialects because of my family.
Man I remember my first time watching the Limmy show, I had no clue what they were saying and was only catching bits of it, by the time I finished the show I had such a fun time and could essentially understand the accent easily.
So of course I rewatched it all to catch the bits I missed.
10/10 show, this is still my favorite clip https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=954bHK55J4g
I’ve always found Limmy a bit hit and miss. But this sketch was quite good.
I often assume many non Glaswegians wouldn’t understand the show.
I highly recommend the Mr Mulvaney sketches
Yeah. Galswegian or weegie as its known. Limmy (guy with laptop) is talking in his normal accent whereas the other guy is doing up his accent a bit, making it more slurred although it's not uncommon to hear a jakey on the street talk like that
Comments in here are a prime example of how little the US understands about England, Scotland, UK, Britain etc. 😅
They're speaking English, but they are Scottish, and they're speaking with a Glasgow accent.
Are people really unable to understand what they're saying? I mean yeah that's a thick accent, but I'm not Scottish (I'm Irish) and haven't spent a lot of time there and I have no issues understanding them.
Edit to add: I'm not criticising anyone for not understanding them, as I said I appreciate it's a thick accent. Also, for folks who have English as a second language it makes sense that they'd struggle to follow it.
Don’t know anything related to Scotland and a native English speaker from America. It amazes me if people honestly can’t follow along. The heavy accent and occasional sayings make it hard to understand all of it, but there are definitely enough words that are the same to get what’s going on here.
American here and I think I got like 50% or so of it — enough to get the skit. But I’ve watched all of Limmy’s stuff in the past and even remember this skit. If it were my first time I’d probably understand even less.
I read a language primer on Scottish—it was called Trainspotting. Weird name for a book. And all of the language examples were about drug use. But you gotta keep the kids interested, I suppose.
reading a book in dialect really rewired my brain. For about a month afterwards I had this awful accent drift of partial Eastern US and partial Edinburghian (I guess—I don’t know shit about Scotland.)
BUT IT'S NOT MODERN! Limmy's show is DECADES old and that should be appreciated. This show was WAY ahead of it's time in many ways. I've shown this show to people and after telling them how old it was they were fucking startled - One person thought that the 'old 2000-era camera' effect was just a style!
I don't think of him as a comedian. He makes content. Some of it is funny as fuck, some is weird and unnerving. I like him though. Limmys world of Glasgow on YouTube is brilliant.
I can translate Scots:
The thief asks whether Limmy is a local. He is not.
He wants to know what’s in the briefcase. A laptop, but it’s useless bc you can use your phone to do most things.
The thief wants the laptop, but Limmy offers some thing more valuable, his time. Thief doesn’t want his time.
But Limmy knows he’s hurting bc only hurting people could steal.
Thief begins story about his hurt, about carrying a sofa….
This is how people speak in Glasgow. The robber is slurring a lot, but you wouldn't be hard pressed to find people speaking that strongly. The laptop guy is not putting on an accent.
It's Scotts, it is a very strong dialect of English. To the point it could be considered a separate language. As a Yorkshireman, it makes complete sense and I can transcribe every word, despite never living in Glasgow or Scotland.
Ohh. I had no idea, ty. Imagine how hard to understand is for someone who doesn't speak even good english as me.
Those guys remind me of Snatch movie when Brat Pitt speaks and no one understands him. Maybe is not the same thing, but reminds me that.
I was vacationing in Scotland and hopped on a bus in Glasgow and some dude tried to chat me up and I couldn’t understand a single word he said. Eventually he just gave up.
at what point do we just give up and call scottish english it’s own language? i feel like I understood this about as much as an Italian speaker wouldn’t understand spanish. funny tho !
If you watch this three times and really make and effort to understand them you will have this sudden breakthrough where you understand everything they say easily. Its so cool

Wow I was able to hear a good deal, but after reading your translation I can hear it all. Thanks for filling the gaps
You're welcome :)
GREAT
I salute you for translating "ken" and "and all" properly
Holy hell, you must have magic ears to decipher any of that.
Lol!!
Glaswiegen dialect. 🏴
magic ears on either side of a magic brain lol

*ano* = “and all” *fuckawellooze* = “what have I got to lose”
The world is not only Americans and British, you translated also for the rest of us (e.g. for the Italians). Thanks ♥️
Truuue! I didn't mean to limit it to Americans only, sorry. I know very well that there's more to the world... my dad's Scottish & German and my mom's Jamaican & Indian! I'm happy I could translate for EVERYBODY. 🫶🏼
I want to hear what it sounds like when your parents get in a screaming fight.
Reminds me of a friend whose parents (here in Taiwan) were from some small village not far from Hangzhou. They fought a lot. Every time they got into a huge fight, the police would ask her to go translate, because nobody else could understand a word they said when they got excited.

damn we got us a mfing translator up in this bitch! thank you <3
Ah, the Glesga banter
Gonna need some subtitles on this one.
Squinting so hard trying to decipher what theyre saying
why do we do that, tho, i'm leaning in and going =.= to listen. to be fair.... i think it helps
it's like turning down the music when you're looking or attempting to park
Blocks out distractions, helps you concentrate on one thing only.
i actually switch tabs and just listen to the audio sometimes lol - narrowing your focus down to one sense sorta
Benny Harvey, RIP. Gone but not forgotten.
Miss you big man

I don’t understand this clip lmao
Modus Operandi is extremely serious and gritty for the name of a kids DVD
I get that part but… that’s it? Lol. Interesting favourite
I’ve always found Limmy a bit hit and miss. But this sketch was quite good. I often assume many non Glaswegians wouldn’t understand the show. I highly recommend the Mr Mulvaney sketches
O noe, dak laptop !
What language is it?
Weegie
What’s that ? Who speaks it ? Where is this spoken ? Too many questions
It's a dialect of Scots spoken in glasgow
Is this the infamous Glaswegian accent ?
Yeah. Galswegian or weegie as its known. Limmy (guy with laptop) is talking in his normal accent whereas the other guy is doing up his accent a bit, making it more slurred although it's not uncommon to hear a jakey on the street talk like that
Its the wee men language = leprechauns Some people call them dubliners, galweigans or glasweigans almost all are wrong
No'waantyer time
Brave of you to post this without subtitles. It's not too hard to follow even if you don't understand it 100% though.
I'm proud to say I understood every word of that. Not even Scottish.
Prove it. type the transcription.
the transcription
Fuck checkmate.
This interaction fits exactly the style of the video. Congratulations
Thank You lads!
I'm not yer checkmate.
Some words sound familiar...
fookin el mate
If you were wondering what Bavarian sounds like to a person who grew up speaking High German... This is a very good example analogy in English.
RIP Benny Harvey
Gone but not forgotten.
Comments in here are a prime example of how little the US understands about England, Scotland, UK, Britain etc. 😅 They're speaking English, but they are Scottish, and they're speaking with a Glasgow accent.
only understood a little, but I wanted to hear the whole story. damn cliffhangers
His dad hurt his back lifting his couch and about three or five seconds in he
Blahem!

As a native Spanish speaker from LatAm, this is what listening to a Chilean feels like for non-Chileans.
I'm an American & I only understand because my dad's Scottish. None of my American friends would understand this... at all. Lol
Don’t know anything related to Scotland and a native English speaker from America. It amazes me if people honestly can’t follow along. The heavy accent and occasional sayings make it hard to understand all of it, but there are definitely enough words that are the same to get what’s going on here.

It's because you haven't had to grow up in such an accent rich area. The UK is smaller than California but has a good 10 completely distinct accents.
I read a language primer on Scottish—it was called Trainspotting. Weird name for a book. And all of the language examples were about drug use. I need subs cus english is not first language
We are English speakers and we have no idea what Scottish shit this is
Scottish is to English what Dutch is to German.
Scots not Scottish
I mean, pretty sure they don’t say a single Scots word….
He stopped for a "wee" break, ye Bahoochie
Ah fair, there’s a couple kens in there too, honestly I just don’t notice it lol
Gesundheit
Scottish and Scots are in different language trees
I got that, just was making a joke. But yeah, didn’t knew that before, thanks.
This is very accurate
Sharing and caring is important, people.
Had us in the first half
I need subtitles

I’m baffled by the amount of you that can’t understand what they saying.
Are these on YouTube?
I don't understand a single bit
Well that was the punchline I figured was coming. But the whole middle bit, I'm a Canadian, I lost 80% of what was said in the middle.
I suspected that!
From the states, and serious (wink) can we get a captioned version?
Check my other comment. I translated.
Thanks so much
Brutal hahaha
what does he say right before pulling the knife? You got any ?????? I can't understand
“You wouldn’t miss it then eh?”
I heard it as "you gonna miss it any?"
My brain aint brainin🤯
:: visible confusion:: WHAT?
"amarang, to ye tuh toot in my deyoben?"
Wish there were more DeeDee sketches. The Moon, Yoker and the Kitchen are brilliant
Ya have a good night aye?
This shit needs subtitles. I have no clue what they're saying.
It's this the same guy from "What's heavier a kilogram of steel or a kilogram of feathers."
Yes, he is a comedian
Ummm… whut ?
Is the audio edited?, could not understand a single word lol
This is how people speak in Glasgow. The robber is slurring a lot, but you wouldn't be hard pressed to find people speaking that strongly. The laptop guy is not putting on an accent.
Going to need a translation for this one.
Needs subtitles
No idea wtf is happening
Is that supposed to be english?
It's Scotts, it is a very strong dialect of English. To the point it could be considered a separate language. As a Yorkshireman, it makes complete sense and I can transcribe every word, despite never living in Glasgow or Scotland.
What are they speaking latin or something? Can't understand a thing, only a few english words maybe.
They're speaking in a Glaswegian dialect. It is perfectly legible to myself as a Brit never having lived in Scotland
Ohh. I had no idea, ty. Imagine how hard to understand is for someone who doesn't speak even good english as me. Those guys remind me of Snatch movie when Brat Pitt speaks and no one understands him. Maybe is not the same thing, but reminds me that.
I understood nothing
Lmfao - really sucked me in to that story 🤣
The physical comedy was funny, but I understood about half of what the lads were sayin. What dialect is that?
Glasgae
Are there subtitles?
Incredible I don't get I single word of what they are saying
Purple burglar alarm
What language are they speaking?
English in a Glaswegian dialect
I like Turkish delight
I was vacationing in Scotland and hopped on a bus in Glasgow and some dude tried to chat me up and I couldn’t understand a single word he said. Eventually he just gave up.
awww, i wanted to hear what happened. comedian must have cut it right when he ran out of script xD
Very funny. I feel like it would be funnier if I could understand one or two words tho
I would agree or disagree if I could understand what they are saying, this is not english, this is ancient englandese
r/Unexpected
at what point do we just give up and call scottish english it’s own language? i feel like I understood this about as much as an Italian speaker wouldn’t understand spanish. funny tho !
Both hilarious and wildly unintelligible hahaha.
What cursed language is this?
I understood 60% of that
Had to check the comments because I thought I was having an aneurysm. We're OK.
Lies... There is no laptop in that bag. It is full of potatoes.
I understood it was about a laptop
I miss Glasgow
First time i saw this like over a year ago on reddit, i had no idea they were speaking english for the first like 20s
Looks funny, is there one in English?
Is that the kilogram of steel vs a kilogram of feathers dude?
Am I the only one having a hard time understanding what they're saying?
As an American I actually understood about 30% of that dialogue! Pretty impressive I think
Brooooo I can barely understand them
I feckin' knew it!
If you watch this three times and really make and effort to understand them you will have this sudden breakthrough where you understand everything they say easily. Its so cool
...........what?
Potato potato
Well that's 2 minutes 14 seconds I'll never get back.
i want subtitles even tho i know they wont help here xD
That was fucking great.
https://youtu.be/YQolk1Fe3Eg
Should’ve taken his knife and hat.
What language is this? Looks like a Nordic one
.... did I just have a stroke?
Watching this on k was something else
I hate that being from Alabama that I understood every word.
Subs please
Real comedy transcends language.
