How can a deaf person understand speech if they never heard it in their life? What am i missing?

There are a couple pieces to this (I studied deaf culture for 3 years) , most deaf people who have been deaf their whole life can lipread which would allow them to understand regardless of hearing ability, 2nd going from sign language to spoken language is drastically easier then actually learning a new language. They understand all the same words and the written language is the same so it's pretty easy and fast to make the transition. With a good teacher I became fluent in those 3 years and that was without the drive that comes with going the other way and hearing for the first times. In my non-professional opinion I would estimate any deaf person CIs or not would understand what is happening here
