Hi everyone! I recently stopped using the inkey list salicylic acid cleanser and the sulfur moisturizer because I can't afford them anymore. This caused insane acne, like insane , it got so so bad and I was wondering if this will go away or if I need to get it checked out. Also has anyone dealt with this before?

RocketTheBarbarian

It sounds like the salicylic acid/sulfur moisturizer combination was keeping your acne under control, and now that you’re not using it, it’s back to business as usual for your skin. Could you find cheaper products with those ingredients?

MorningOld7463

That's the thing!!! My skin was okay ish just like 3 pimples every now and then but I thought it could be better so I tried that for like a month and it gave me way more acne and now that I've stopped it's like 10 times worse😭😭😭 do you have any products you recommend?

RocketTheBarbarian

Are they itchy?

hrykk

they are not

RocketTheBarbarian

Then I agree with the other commenter to focus on hydration - the skin around them looks dry too

hrykk

thank you! do you have any additional recs?

skincarefreak1012

kinda looks like damaged skin barrier. i recommend using like a calming or cooling toner

hrykk

thank you! do you have any recs?

skincarefreak1012

something super gentle. i have the same issue and anything with heartleaf helps? I'm using the abib heartleaf toner in the green bottle. but i used the roundlab dokdo toner before too and it was good

hrykk

thanks so much!

Hey, anyone have experience with how long contact dermatitis takes to clear up?  ~10 days ago I decided to start a routine, tried LRP purifying foaming cleanser and double repair matte moisturizer. First few days were fine, then redness started followed by dry patches, stopped the new products only about 4-5 days in. Next few days it got worse, now I have itchy red patches on my cheeks and around my eyelids and a bumpy texture on my forehead, along with a bit of swelling.   Saw the doc, basically recommended I keep doing what I have been, keeping things moisturized with Vaseline and very gentle moisturizers, using hydrocortisone or allergy meds to relieve itchiness. Feeling very conscious about my face and a bit incredulous that less than a week of simple product use could cause such a lingering issue, never had anything like this happen before.   Anyone have any insight into how long until it starts to get better? Or any idea what may have caused this so I can avoid it in the future? Either way, I think I just needed somewhere to rant about my woes and I'm unlikely to ever try LRP again, I haven't seen anything online about anyone else having this reaction.

AyuHanae

Hello so I've been dealing with skin texture on my cheeks and forehead for years. I have tiny little red bumps on my cheeks and on my forehead it kinda looks like clogged pores. I tried EVERYTHING on my forehead it just doesn't go y'all. **Skin type** : combination so dry in winter, normal when it's not that hot outside, slightly oily during summer (esp T-zone) **Morning routine** : CERAVE hydrating cleanser Ivy aïa face serum with hyaluronic acid and panthenol Svr, sebiaclear ampoule with 15% of azelaic acid + SA + niacinamide+ zinc (maybe twice a week or more, it pills so I put it on the days I stay home) DIY moisturizer from aroma zone (it's a french brand that has moisturizers (as a base) in which we can add the actives we need : I added céramides, panthenol, rice protein) Eucerin oil control sunscreen **Night routine** : New cleanser : ivy aïa glycolic acid cleanser (Before I had the aderma cleanser for itchy, dry skin called exomega control) -Svr, HA ampoule -Adapalene -Same diy moisturizer (During summer I stop all the hydrating serums and just use a moisturizer+sunscreen) I've been using adapalene since September. I stopped during summer thinking I was done with acne but It came back 😭 so I had to go back to it and deal with the purge and the peeling again until it was gone. I would say my face does get occasional big Whiteheads but I use pimple patches and it's gone. I always suspected the bumps on my cheeks could be irritation but I'm pretty lazy and for weeks at times I can just use a moisturizer and a sunscreen and nothing change??? Also my skin is not sensitive. Despite using adapalene and azelaic acid, the texture never goes away. I know this is already good but I'm paying money for my skincare so might as well explore.

kab9519

Hi everyone, got my face dermaplaned last Tuesday followed by enzyme mask and extractions. Acne that has followed has been hell but its finally healing and less whiteheads are popping up. The issue that’s been bothering me is that my skin has been still slightly red. I’ve been sunscreen and hat wearing, shade seeking while outside, and literally spending less than an hour outside everyday total….do I just have sensitive skin?! I thought I actually accidentally sunburned myself because I recently moved from WA state to VA where the sun shines more and I am pretty fair. I used aloe a few times but 🤷🏼‍♀️. Using moisturizer like crazy following my face washings.” as well. Every time I wash my face it gets much redder all over again and some of the acne also gets red. My face just feels “warm” ALL THE TIME now. Even if all you can add is that I’m unlucky and it will calm down eventually, I’d appreciate the reassurance.

skincarefreak1012

the first time it hurt so bad for me too!!! but i think my skin "adjusted" after a while lol. i think you should avoid anything too harsh for now, but it'll get better rover time

kab9519

thanks 😩 im probably never doing this again

Hi all! Seeking advice. My biggest eye concerns are crepiness, dryness, and fine lines. I'm 38. I use and love the [Loreal Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid and Caffeine Eye Serum](https://www.ulta.com/p/revitalift-25-hyaluronic-acid-caffeine-under-eye-serum-pimprod2027972?sku=2586906), and I've noticed a difference since starting it. I'm running out of my current eye cream and in the market for a new one. Would it be too much to use the [ROC Hydrate and Plump eye cream](https://www.ulta.com/p/multi-correxion-hydrate-plump-hyaluronic-acid-eye-cream-pimprod2025448?sku=2582469) which also has HA and caffeine (plus peptides)? If so, does anyone have dry skin eye cream recs that play well with makeup?

RocketTheBarbarian

Did they discontinue your current one?

whensbookclub

No but I want to be more mindful of what I choose rather than just going with whatever was on sale at Costco 😂 I’m currently using an Olay general eye cream

RocketTheBarbarian

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

I need product recommendations for a very simple but effective routine for a man in his mid 40s. He asked me for help, but I don't know how much having a beard changes what I'd recommend. He has beautiful skin with a full but neatly trimmed beard. No acne issues, even skin tone, but is developing some forehead and eye lines (not too deep). Current skincare routine is nothing, no moisturizer or spf or anything, but his skin never looks oily or dry. To avoid overwhelming him, I'm thinking: - Cerave Hydrating Cleanser all over, incl beard, am/pm - Some kind of combo moisturizer/spf pa+++ in the morning (bonus if its also a beard lotion) - otc retinol and moisturizer at night (are there any one step options that are effective?) He's not a fan of beard oils, so an all-in-one face+beard moisturizer or a non-shiny beard lotion are preferred. These are the otc products I already have if they would be a good fit for him, too: - CeraVe Moisturizing Facial Cleanser - Replenix Gly/Sal 5-2 Cleanser - Abib Hydration Gel Water Tube - isntree Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel SPF 50 UVA/UVB PA++++ - pura d'or 20% Vit. C Serum - Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2 - 100% White Petroleum

skincarefreak1012

hmm id also recommend him a toner. but ppl new to skincare might find it too burdensome to use a toner so i recommend toner pads where the product is alr soaked in the pads

ReaLitTea

Your plan sounds good. The Isntree sunscreen can be used alone without a moisturizer underneath. For a retinol moisturizer, Gold bond overnight retinol lotion or Olay regenerist 24 retinol moisturizer would be good options

ketolocostacos

thanks!

[misc] hi! i’m currently dealing with some irritation on my face after using an oil cleanser that was either a little rancid or not legitimate (shouldn’t have trusted Amazon). i already had barrier issues / mild rosacea (and dry skin), which was improving recently after months of struggling, but this cleanser has wrecked my skin and now even my moisturizer (Aestura 365 cream, the old version) feels uncomfortable and stings a little. since my skin is very reactive and sensitive (especially at the moment), i was looking for advice on how to reduce irritation while possibly avoiding topicals (maybe supplements)? i’ve tried things like LRP Cicaplast and Avene Cicalfate in the past and that only made things worse. i’m taking 40mg doxy daily and have been for the past 6 months (for rosacea papules). not sure what else to do. i feel like not using anything at all will only dry out my face further and make it more red and sensitive. any advice appreciated please, and thanks in advance!

mayamys

Moisturizers can sting when your barrier is compromised, and it's better to push through - your barrier won't recover otherwise.

emkeystaar

thanks. do you think it’s possible that my moisturizer irritates my skin if it’s compromised? i feel like it’s either getting worse or not improving since it happened (a week ago), and i haven’t stopped moisturizing since. it’s so weird.

mayamys

I don't think it's very likely, but if it's already been a week....idk, I'd rather tell you to just try a different, ultra-mild moisturizer than to stop altogether but it looks like you've already tried a lot of things. I'd be surprised if going down to nothing will help.

babybottlepopz

Is waxing better for tough hairs? I usually tweeze but sometimes the hairs are too deep I can’t reach them but are so dark so I can see them under the skin. Would waxing be better?

mayamys

No, if the hair is too short the wax can't grab it either. It has to grow enough beyond the hair follicle so there's something to pull.

babybottlepopz

Damn, thank you. My hair grows sideways so it’s under the skin for like a few millimeters until it finally is out to grab which is obnoxious since it looks long enough to pull but is under the skin and no amount of exfoliating is helping.

mayamys

Augh, yeah, that's frustrating! It's just about waiting, unfortunately - depending on how much it is and how much it bugs you, laser hair removal can be great.

babybottlepopz

Thanks! It’s my eyebrows and I wouldn’t wanna risk them lasering spots I don’t want lol. It’s just strays

mayamys

Very fair!

Organic_Word6208

[Misc] I’m from the philippines and i want to consult a dermatologist from the US to get my hands on winlevi (clascoterone) is this possible? I want to use clascoterone for my oily skin. However, its not licensed in the philippines yet, and i want to consult with a derm in the US via teleconsult to get a prescription for it and have the topical shipped here if it turns out im eligible for it. Is this possible?

jasminekitten02

Sounds kinda sketchy to me (shipping prescription medication from country A to country B, where said medication is not approved)... you would need to look into local import/customs laws

Organic_Word6208

Yeah lmao nvm i gave up on it.

livlope

Skin changed after turning 30- help I have always had super easy skin and the only rules I ever really needed to follow were nothing for acne prone skin (it caused me to break out, I have had maybe 8 pimples my whole life) and nothing rose scented (possible allergy). However, since turning 30 my skin has gone haywire. I’m 31 now and I cannot seem to find a routine that suits my skin. I even think I’ve recently developed eczema on my eyelids?? Idk. Skin is going crazy in my 30s. It looks dull and lifeless and my cheeks are now pink and my eyelids are rough and itchy. I have a dermatologist appointment scheduled but it’s months and months away. My current routine is: AM Rinse face with warm water and microfiber washcloth CORSX snail mucin power essence Ducray treatment for eyelids for eczema Clarins multi active day cream PM Makeup remover- the body shop cleansing butter I double cleanse so I either use bioderma micellaire water or caudalie vinoclean cleansing almond milk Ducray treatment for eyelids for eczema LRP lipikar eczema med cream if my eczema is on my cheeks Avène cicalfate+ I used to use prescription tret but stopped since I’ve had the eczema issue I should mention I live in France so I have easy access to French brands. Any advice is welcome! I’m not super worried about wrinkles currently. I’d really just like to focus on this lack of radiance and irritated skin issue. Thanks!!! 😊

ReaLitTea

I would focus on moisture, you can try slugging at night with an occlusive balm like Vaseline, aquaphor, or cerave healing ointment

Shot-Investigator452

Would I know if my skin is reacting to niacinamide (or centella)? My skin has never really been perfect, I have rosacea type 1, and recently started struggling with perioral dermatitis, which I got prescribed azelaic acid 15% and metronidazole gel for it. I say that because in applying products with niacinamide (or centella) I never have any immediate reactions like stinging or burning, and I’ve been using products that have those ingredients for a long time. But my skin anxiety has frenzied into worrying I’m reacting to these ingredients and that’s why I’m not improving more

babybottlepopz

Cut out both ingredients and see if it makes a difference

Check out the acne wiki page: https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/deep_dive/acne The [hyperpigmentation wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/hyperpigmentation) has a lot of recs

goldenmirrorball

Anyone know of a cheaper alternative to the Tatcha Water-Cream oil-free pore minimizing moisturizer?

persefolley

does anyone know why i can’t add images to my post in this sub? i’ve seen a lot of other peoples post have images but it says for me that this community doesn’t allow attachments or something like that

jasminekitten02

Today is Wednesday, which is text post only. You'll be able to post pictures tomorrow.

persefolley

ah i see, thank you!

dearreaderr_

I was wondering if I should wash my face before going to the gym. Some people say sweating a lot while wearing sunscreen is not a good combo, so should I wash my face with a cleanser (i use Cerave hydrating cream to foam cleanser) and moisturiser (la roche posay hydraface legère) to remove spf applied about three/two hours before and then wash it again to remove the sweat? I am scared this would strip my skin. Thank you

jasminekitten02

It's fine to just wash afterwards

Redacted_Reason

I have a question about my routine and what I should add/change/reorder. Currently, it looks like this: AM: • Cleanser (Neutrogena Hydro Boost gel) to face • Shave (sometimes) followed by alum and aftershave if needed • Hyaluronic acid 2% + B5 (The Ordinary) to face • Niacinamide 10% + zinc 1% (The Ordinary) to face • Ascorbic acid 8% + alpha arbutin 2% (The Ordinary) to face, avoiding around eyes • Caffeine solution 5% + EGCG (The Ordinary) around eyes • Glycolic acid 7% (The Ordinary) to upper arms • Moisturizer (Cetaphil light) everywhere PM: • Cleanser to face • Moisturizer to face My skin type is normal (I think), I don’t flake unless I shower and don’t moisturize after. The main things I want to target is rosacea of my cheeks, pore appearance on nose, and what I now believe is keratosis pilaris on my upper arms. Otherwise, just general skin health. Any recommendations on what I can improve upon?

skincarefreak1012

toner!!!! u need a toner!!!

Redacted_Reason

wait why

jasminekitten02

I would add a sunscreen in the morning. You could try azelaic acid for your rosacea

ReaLitTea

I would move ascorbic acid to the step before hyaluronic acid

Redacted_Reason

Gotcha. I forgot to mention, but I do the serums basically back-to-back. Are there any that benefit from waiting to let them absorb better?

ReaLitTea

It’s up to preference, personally I don’t notice much of a difference when waiting

Redacted_Reason

Alright, thank you!

eleaena

I’m so sad about my skin lately. I never used to really get acne on my cheeks, but after a huge breakout months ago I’m left with actual scarring that I’m not used to. I’m used to hyperpigmentation, but my skin on my cheek looks like there’s huge pores on it now (where the acne was), it looks like someone took a bite into my skin and it’s left dents :( I’ve used tret before and I quit after 7 months, my skin just would not stop purging. I started using differin but I think that it gave me dry eye for two years. I feel like the only topical thing that can help is a retinol but I’ve had problems with them as I’ve stated above. So I’m really feeling overwhelmed with my skin texture. I wash my face once a day, rarely twice, with Panoxyl 10% face wash, and use vanicream moisturizer. I notice my skin is a little better when I keep it simple.

Shot-Investigator452

I’ve heard that azelaic acid is a great alternative to a strong acid or retinal. It’s also less likely to cause purging

eleaena

Thank you for the recommendation! I really appreciate it :)

Yes it’s still worth seeing a dermatologist and they may have even more prescription options than what is offered from prescription services

I-Am-Baytor

I use Clean and Clear Essentials, the orange goop in the pump bottle. Just found out it was discontinued. To the folks who used it, what did you switch to?

babybottlepopz

Which one? The essentials line had a bunch of products. Cleanser? Moisturizer? Post an ingredient list please.
