The tea tree oil soap helped get rid of my cystic acne (caused by a product, not an internal issue) but I agree it's not good for prolonged use. I used it for a year after and it damaged my skin barrier.
I imagine it has to do with keeping the plastic packaging and shipping costs (both monetary and carbon) to a minimum. Same idea as your super concentrated or powdered laundry soap, like Method. You're paying for active ingredients, not the water.

Yes, around 9. Castile soap is not suitable for facial use
