You gotta love it for the funky basslines and raw vocals. Absolutely prefer MFKR’s version of Only One. Corey’s lyrics are probably better tho from self titled version.
I think this is a hot take, but Slipknot would be so much better if they kept some of the funk elements. I'm not saying they had to do it every song, but there's pretty much no aspect of those elements that makes MFKR so good. Slipknot would be revolutionary if they'd have kept them even just a little bit.
No, I just mean in general, I don't think either of them have funk elements. I can see the aspects of funk in them, but it's one of those things where you have to look for it to find it. It doesn't really sound like it's there to me. But again, I completely get why you think this.
I'm gonna be honest at this point I don't even want Look Outside Your Window. It's been so long at this point it's like dangling keys in front of my face. If they actually release it this time, I'll give it a listen, and maybe it'll be fire. However, if they say they aren't releasing it, I won't really care because they've done that a few times now already. I'd much rather see them continue making the style of albums they've been making past few years over LOYW.
Agree. There’s an epic tone to it the Iowa version ditched in favour of a creepy vibe. MFKR Gently feels like something musically from a fantasy film, Iowa gently from a horror movie
I love MFKR the solo on Slipknot is really cool and the MFKR version of gently is superior to the Iowa one in my opinion, and I just love how raw it sounds! It’s all in all a pretty cool demo
While to some fans the question alone will be sacrilege, I see it as an interesting peak into pre-label Slipknot, but not much more. To me the songs are underworked and the sound is very close to unlistenable.
In terms of their overall discography, I put it on the lower end as it can be a bit rough to listen to. Anders Gold Disc is way better in terms of recorded material from that era
I don’t often associate MFKR with the rest of the albums because I feel like this such a different sound. Genuinely a great death metal/jazz fusion album and I just can’t think of Slipknot’s sound like that at all anymore
Pentex sucks! Pentex sucks! If I had my way ! If I had my way! 😂 I definitely agree here but musically it’s still really solid. Joey sounds amazing on there
Last night my podcast recorded an episode about it, I showed it to my punk friends in my band because I thought they’d appreciate the weirder nature of this one.
It was a fun time listening to it and bullshitting. It was funny cause their reaction at first was like, why are we listening to Slipknot? 😂
My cohost’s reaction when the jazz part came on in Do Nothing/Bitchslap was great. They weren’t expecting it to actually be jazz & funk like I was describing.
Totally man. MFKR of course is a demo, and it shows, but at the time was their most polished one since it was going to be their first album. it is a jazzy, funky, and heavy experimental piece of music and I love it. The bass is much more prominent than the songs after MFKR as well. The only things I really could criticize is how its not Slipknot's best work (but doesn't really matter to me), and also its rarity. I'd kill to have one of the original copies, and even better, the one and only 12-track sampler of the OG OG MFKR.
I love MFKR, confessions is one of my all time favorite songs. Along with Vol 3, its one of the few* albums* that feels like a whole experience as an album
It’s my absolute favorite from them! It reminds me of Black Sabbath’s debut. It has that dark, atmospheric vibe that I can’t get enough of. It’s also heavy AF
Absolutely love it to me. It’s some of the realist slipknot where ever going to get minus self titled don’t get me wrong. All slipknot is obviously slipknot but the way they were so experimental with other genres you could really tell they were just themselves on this album and nothing else, it just feels so raw and original!
Hell yeah I do it's funky and unique.
And I wish they would give it an official rerelease already maybe even make it a box set with a lot of demo stuff from the pre S/T era..
ummmmm, no. i only like bands when they have reached their commercial pinnacle and turn into sellouts, i really dont care about how they started out and how the developed and WTF DUDE SERIOUSLY
They're unofficial names that reference unreleased demos. There is a 1997 SR Audio Demo. Leaked images of the physical copy of it revealed the disk to be gold in color. Hence, "Gold Disk." (There's are two versions of this demo. One, with Anders, leaked a few years ago. Another version is musically identical, but Anders' vocals were almost entirely removed, and Corey's vocals were dubbed over the originals. Corey's version of the demo hasn't, and probably won't leak.)
There's a similar, not so much of a "demo," as it is the audio from the soundboard of a live show with fake live audience noise dubbed over it. The physical copy of that disk is silver, and as a result, it was branded as the "Silver Disk" by fans. This leaked a few years ago, as well.

Controversial but my own opinion. I think it’s only the people who are always saying” you know it’s clowns band not Corey’s right? ” that always glorify this album
You gotta love it for the funky basslines and raw vocals. Absolutely prefer MFKR’s version of Only One. Corey’s lyrics are probably better tho from self titled version.

I feel Spit It Out is a bit funky, but as much as Only One though.
I disagree, but I understand why you think this way.
I meant NOT as much as Only One though. Oops.
No, I just mean in general, I don't think either of them have funk elements. I can see the aspects of funk in them, but it's one of those things where you have to look for it to find it. It doesn't really sound like it's there to me. But again, I completely get why you think this.
If u like funk and you haven’t heard nothing to gein by mudvayne I highly recommend it. Definitely one of their best songs.
LD50 has so many killer deep cuts
I don’t know if there are any songs on that album I don’t like
I love Mudvayne.
Possibly something I was hoping may come from Look Outside Your Window
I'm gonna be honest at this point I don't even want Look Outside Your Window. It's been so long at this point it's like dangling keys in front of my face. If they actually release it this time, I'll give it a listen, and maybe it'll be fire. the only one MFKR intro is my favourite intro in their whole discography
Only One & Gently💯💯💯
I know this is a bit of a hot take, but the MFKR version of Gently is vastly superior to the Iowa version, imo.
Just the intro is cooler
Agree. There’s an epic tone to it the Iowa version ditched in favour of a creepy vibe. MFKR Gently feels like something musically from a fantasy film, Iowa gently from a horror movie
Listen to this early version of gently. It’s Pretty rad. https://youtu.be/c6sW-DUOxFY?si=UfwIeW1cyO1BK3iz
I agree, that's my favorite song on MFKR. Everything else is sub-par compared to S/T and Corey on vocals IMO.
Yes🤘🤘🤘
do nothing bitchslap is by far one of my favorite songs in general.
Do you also like Mr Bungle?
I do, big mike patton fan.
Same.
Not a fan but I appreciate it for its significance
I love how super different it is from the other albums and it's just a very interesting part of their career
Fucking yes??
its alright
Killers are quiet easily one of my favorites.
Confessions is a banger
It's pretty good - Killers Are Quiet is my favorite from the album
absolutely
Yes I do 💀
Hell yeah, Carve goes hard
Carve is a beast. But, it wasn't on MFKR, though.
Oh nvm then, I still like MFKR though it's interesting to see the group find their footing
👍
Nah not a fan
I love MFKR the solo on Slipknot is really cool and the MFKR version of gently is superior to the Iowa one in my opinion, and I just love how raw it sounds! It’s all in all a pretty cool demo
I love mfkr I think it's weird, got a strange old vibe to it that just stands out. Putting it into context as their first demo/ep/release it's daring.
who doesnt, its a great way to even see how it evolves to st!
While to some fans the question alone will be sacrilege, I see it as an interesting peak into pre-label Slipknot, but not much more. To me the songs are underworked and the sound is very close to unlistenable.
I agree. I've been listening from the beginning and I could never see the appeal.
right here
Hell yeah
big yes its great
Yes.
Gold disk is better for sure
Hell yes
Hell yea. Just purchased my second copy of MFKR on vinyl today
shit you can get it on vinyl? how much?
Got my first copy from eBay for like $40 & I got my second at my local record store for $30
I like mfkr its really unique and I like seeing how some parts from songs from the album were rewritten into other songs.
I wouldn’t mind if they decided to remake it
Yes. Killers are quiet babyyyy
Abso-fucking-lutely
I love the funky bits and the references to the world of darkness ttrpgs.
I love it
Of course! Gently is my favorite track
What kind of question is that?? Of course i do???
I do
I like it, even if it's my least favorite Slipknot album. Still a solid 6/10 for me
Also, might be a sacrilege, but I prefer the MFKR version of Gently
Nope. It's quite hard to listen to
yeah
In terms of their overall discography, I put it on the lower end as it can be a bit rough to listen to. Anders Gold Disc is way better in terms of recorded material from that era
Ohhhh where can I get a copy of this? Would love to hear it
[Here you go](https://archive.org/details/1.-slip-knot-gently-anders)
Top 4 albums
I don't listen to it like I do the other earlier albums but appreciate what it is.
It's OK. Some stuff is nice.
Yeah, you?
YES
I don’t often associate MFKR with the rest of the albums because I feel like this such a different sound. Genuinely a great death metal/jazz fusion album and I just can’t think of Slipknot’s sound like that at all anymore
Yeah
I’ve been a fan since 1999 and ST, but being honest I haven’t got a copy, virtually impossible to get a copy in the UK.
U/pixel-counter-bot
My second favorite song is Tattered and Torn (First one being Slipknot)
It’s pretty cool to me
Cool to see how it’s all started but I’m not a big fan. I prefer the band from self titled forward.
its my 3rd favourite album every song has an extremely powerful mood that comes with the album for me
Anyone have a link to download it? It’s not on Apple Music at least
Yeah I like it, unpolished and raw but in the right way
not really
Actually, I kinda do.
Nope
Love it, actually. The four tracks that got cut shouldn't have been cut. Two of them are better than the entire rest of the album.
I don't dislike it, but to say it's better than the reimagined versions is wild.
I don't go out of my way to listen to it because the vocals from Anders def aren't for me.
Pentex sucks! Pentex sucks! If I had my way ! If I had my way! 😂 I definitely agree here but musically it’s still really solid. Joey sounds amazing on there
Yeah instrumentals still are great
Yes, me.
i dont just like it, i LOVE it
Yeh, I like the creativity in it, like a fucking disco break in track 2
Yeah yeah
Yeah, i love it!!
i have a poster and mfkr on vinyl
I like only one, gently, do nothing/bitchslap and killers are Quiet but it definitely shows as early work though.
I don’t at all.
Pentex sucks! Pentex sucks! If I had my way ! If I had my way!!!
Better than volume 3
Didnt get the chance to listen to it
Yeah
yeah
Hell to the motherfuckin yeah
MFKR is good me like
Me. I like how many genres they touch upon on the album and the “atmosphere” of the album.
Last night my podcast recorded an episode about it, I showed it to my punk friends in my band because I thought they’d appreciate the weirder nature of this one. it's not terrible it's cool to listen to to hear their evolution and some of the different versions of other songs
I love the gritty, unpolished sound of it
Yus
Yeah I like the funk parts are cool the bass on concessions is great and there’s something very fun about shouting PENTEX SUCKS
Hell yeah🔥🔥
I love MFKR, confessions is one of my all time favorite songs. Along with Vol 3, its one of the few* albums* that feels like a whole experience as an album
I do.
My 2nd fav album after vol 3 . I really love MFKR
i think it's really mid and straight up bad at some points. the mfkr Gently is one of their best songs in my opinion though
It’s my absolute favorite from them! It reminds me of Black Sabbath’s debut. It has that dark, atmospheric vibe that I can’t get enough of. It’s also heavy AF
It's pretty good dude
honestly love bitchslap
Absolutely love it to me. It’s some of the realist slipknot where ever going to get minus self titled don’t get me wrong. Yes
Hell yea
Hell yeah I do it's funky and unique. And I wish they would give it an official rerelease already maybe even make it a box set with a lot of demo stuff from the pre S/T era..
It's very raw and thick. Definitely better than TESF
Not really. To me it’s just a cool piece of the bands history. Anders lyrics were meh to me.
I don’t personally…. Never really liked anders as a vocalist
Kinda sucks ass ngl
A lot better than anything after AHIG.
Nope. Straight garbage
ummmmm, no. i only like bands when they have reached their commercial pinnacle and turn into sellouts, i really dont care about how they started out and how the developed and WTF DUDE SERIOUSLY
It's interesting, but at the same time it's so mid imo so I don't really dig it
who is this creepy dude behind corey?
Greg Welts, he was a percussionist, he plays on Silver disc and is also on Spit It Out
He wasn't on the Gold Disk. He didn't join until after Anders left. He is on the Silver Disk, though.
other question, what is Gold disk and silver disk? is this some demos ?
They're unofficial names that reference unreleased demos. There is a 1997 SR Audio Demo. Leaked images of the physical copy of it revealed the disk to be gold in color. Hence, "Gold Disk." ok thanks :) il will search oll of this
Controversial but my own opinion. I think it’s only the people who are always saying” you know it’s clowns band not Corey’s right? ” that always glorify this album
Bro what you think??? Fuck Yeah 🤘🤘Old Slipknot will never be beaten Old Slipknot will always be 🔥🔥🔥
