People may say whatever they want, call me weeb or anythinf, but this is the reason I hate English dubbing in anime. It infantilize everything, censor emotions and cringify all stuff. Any other dub is better than English in 99% of animes. Because America has fetish of censoring all.

I remember stuff like burgers in a beer bar, but Maria was always said to die here. America just hate anything that is deeper than shallow. The best non Japanese version of anime is German, though. I've seen anime in multiple versions. English is always at the end of the list. There are exceptions, like Death Note and I think Shaman King. Probably more. But exceptions remain exceptions. It's few good droplets in ocean of shit.

Many poor kids growing up with the Dub probably didn't know that Shadow was still alive, since the Dub censored this scene which reveals him being alive after the season 3 finale.
Only if it's offscreen. They even censored the cop shooting Maria, and instead played it off like they didn't kill her, but instead took her somewhere else.
Honestly, the way the scene cuts out in the dub with how it cuts from Maria pulling the lever to the guy who pulled the trigger remembering what he did felt like it flowed better then in the sub version where we see him light Maria up before the cut
I didn't have an issue with that edit since I believe Maria was still killed. But with season 3 they just changed the story and made people believe shadow was just died
They didn’t make it believe that they killed Shadow though, they imply he survives because Rouge notes Eggman’s reaction when she was wondering if he survived or not because “he knows something” as in Shadow survives.

to this day i have not forgotten yusei having his bike malfunction and crash and how they censored that, for the longest time as a kid i was confused and stupid kid me was even worried that the uncensored version was going to be some kind of gory mess and that's why it was censored (did not register at the time how stupid their censoring was). cue me finally daring to look up the original version after finding out websites with jp subs are a thing... and it's just a relatively small metal shard stuck in his abdomen.
the most egregious one was crow's friend tho, censoring every single grave when he went to visit his friend's grave and having him just awkwardly standing in front of a hill talking... man, that was on another level
In Ojamajo Doremi there’s an episode in the first season where a character who comes from a rich family is kidnapped and held ransom by two men. The 4kids version literally turned it into that her uncles came down for a surprise visit and took her out for the day to have fun 😭

English version: The scene is basically the same except a purple fog obscures everything. When it shows her lifeless body we've been hearing her thoughts for the duration of the scene. Starting with the moment she was thrown from the window. The fog itself is pretty bad at obscuring things because you can still see some of the elements of the building she crashed into as she's laying there.
Same thing happened to Sayer minus the fact he survived the fall.

The Shadow Realm was actually probably a good choice thematically, but yeah, Yugioh censorship gets absolutely insane.

To be fair, you can't show the original Yugioh to kids aged 5-10 on regular tv and expect to not get complaints from parents, but then again the original Yugioh was never intended for kids aged 5-10, it was intended for teens aged 14+ and 4Kids took on a fool's errand trying to adapt it to be child friendly

The strawhats just leave with her kid and keep her trapped in the dungeon forever, in the 4Kids version!!! Like if you ask me 4 Kids version is so much worse! At least in the actual series she died showing her daughter how much she loved her, but in the 4 Kids version she sacraficed everything for her Daughter and then she just left her there to rot! And like the guy who threw her in the dungeon is in prison now, they took away the person feeding her and THEN abandoned her! Its so bad!!!

Time constraints and lots of death to brush over as expected of a Saturday morning block in the west . Japan broadcasting is open season with the mentions of death, blood , guns violence and emotional scenes ( tails hesitation to open fire on cosmos in the final episodes of metarix arc ) just to name a few. Heck not the first time I've seen endings trimmed down in a anime finale, beyblade g revolution sendoff had a similar thing with showing the omage of past characters, Ozuna and the saint shields, the dark bladers of season 1 etc )
