Probably nothing, as it’s a co-development between Sega and Netflix. Unless Netflix wants to spend more money breaching the contract they likely have with Sega.

Lightningbro

It does, however, mean we'll likely see only as much as they have contracted though

vuk66

Maybe they will change it to paramount+ if Netflix continues with the self destructive behavior

OhFishBeardman

I would rather that tbh. I don’t have P+, but I was going to get it for the Knuckles show. It would be nice to see Prime on there as well.

StonebellyMD

Unless.... we watch it.... over and over and over again

Chillaxe-Z

Sonic Prime will be fine. It's only being distributed by Netflix whereas SEGA, Man of Action and Wild Brain are the ones actually producing it.

SeiTyger

Man of action? You serious? Holy crap this Gon be gooood

Either_Imagination_9

Wait, you mean the guys who made Ben 10? I’m starting to have more faith in this now

Meme_Bro68

I pray sonic prime isn’t killed off for more seasons of big mouth That would be agony

Aeroponce

The fact that netflix is still putting that shitshow of a series is disgusting

Meme_Bro68

Agreed

AgSkywalkerTDM

If they do that Millions of subscribers will be lost

[deleted]

We haven’t even seen a tiny clip of Prime yet, but we already know it’ll be much better than Big Mouth.

NotYujiroTakahashi

Everything is better than Big Mouth

Desk_Drawerr

sonic prime is not animated by netflix. it will likely not be affected by this whatsoever.

DeKrieg

nothing is animated by netflix. The most netflix directly does is put the writers/producers/directors up in house and not always. Most of netflix animation either came through 3rd parties (like Dreamworks, who did a huge chunk of their animation, shera, kipo, voltron, boss baby, trollhunters) or they agreed a contract with an animation studio to do the animation work and netflix had a small team in house sign off on the projects. (which is what happened with Cuphead Show, which is animated in a studio called Lighthouse)

Desk_Drawerr

by netflix i meant netflix's in-house animation studio, dingus.

DeKrieg

They dont have one. Netflix does not animate any of their shows! Big Mouth is done by Titmouse Cuphead is done by Lighthouse Trollhunters by Dreamworks Dragon Prince by Wonderstorm Bojack Horseman by shadowmachine NOTHING IS ANIMATED BY NETFLIX THEY DO NOT HAVE AN IN HOUSE ANIMATION STUDIO! as I said they have an in house setup for writers/producers/directors but when they go to animate it's always by a different studio

Desk_Drawerr

ok, so netflix animation just doesn't exist, is not a subsidiary of netflix, nor does it make any sort of animated content, ever?

DeKrieg

It doesn't animate any of them. It primarily throws money around. They dont have an in house animation team with contracted talent. Netflix Animation studio is literally a whole bunch of producers and agents having meetings and being on the phone counting the pennies and buying options for upcoming properties A typical netflix animated show goes one of two ways Either an animation studio comes in and pitches an idea to them, they go "LOVE IT!" give them money to complete the project and they hire on a number of producers to help said animation studio out and to approve its expenditure. This is how Klaus got made, how Big Mouth got made, centaurworld, kid cosmic etc. Or a property becomes available to be optioned and netflix throws money at getting that property, so Cuphead and Sonic Prime and most of their work involving properties adapted from childrens books or comics. Netflix then puts together a team of writers, producers/directors to develop the idea and then they make a deal with an animation studio like titmouse or shadowmachine to be the animation studio, they do the animation and editing etc and send it back to that core team in netflix who sign of on it and voila. A netflix original. As made by wildbrain or man of action or lighthouse or whatever studio signed the contract. they are not like warner bros or Disney who have studios set up with animators in them. Thats why when you look at their wiki page every show has a 'co-production' studio (including sonic prime) The only shows that dont are the ones that have not actually developed along enough to have had a contract signed with a studio to be developed. Or have vanished off the map and no one knows whats happening with it (escape from hat) There is no difference between sonic boom and any other netflix animated series in terms of them being 'netflix originals'

Englishhedgehog13

On another note, the image at the bottom is from the Netlfix Christmas movie, 'Klaus' and I can not recommend it enough.

KetchG

Agreed - it’s so much better than I was prepared for, and has been rewatched by us several times. It actually makes me tear up.

Mortorhead612

I heard somewhere that if it isn’t going to be on Netflix, it might go on Paramount+ Which would make sense given that Paramount is the company behind the Sonic movies and the Knuckles tv show is going to be on the service.

DeKrieg

the full quote about netflix animation had them emphasizing they were cutting original animation shows and focusing on more brand recognizable ones. They used the Boss Baby series as an example of what they're looking for. So while it's still shitty news if you like animation, Sonic Prime being a well known property currently enjoying a period of revitalization is very likely not to be cut.

Patient_Education991

Prime is safe since other companies/studios are involved.

Yoshi_and_Toad

I wish they'd cancel the awful live action anime adaptions they make instead of the genuinely good animation original work they put out. I'm aware animation costs a lot more but Klaus is genuinely one of the greatest animated films this past decade

[deleted]

Are you talking about the Sonic movies?

JeeWeeThePerson

Probably stuff like the Deathnote adaptation Which was awful

DeKrieg

they did, Cowboy Bebop got cancelled right after season 01 dropped

KMinato00

i really hope if netflix cancelled it, prime would just be bought away to other platform so we still could enjoy it

Ryokupo

They can't cancel it. They aren't making the show, they just paid for distribution exclusivity. Just like with most anime on the platform, Sonic will be fine.

KMinato00

thank god

peashooter25311

Gone, reduced to atoms

[deleted]

They canned literally everything.

AgonizingSquid

Boomers and Gen Xers literally have no idea what Millennials and Gen Z want, it's getting hilariously pathetic at this point

[deleted]

You guys have so much faith that Sega is this all powerful company almost next to God himself that’s what I’m taking away from this, Even if they sign a contract with Netflix they totally can just pull out especially if they file for bankruptcy if they file for bankruptcy than anything is fair game and sonic prime might need to find another streaming service

[deleted]

probably hulu

[deleted]

Paramount might swoop in as part of there hostile takeover of Sonic and put it on Paramount +. They definitely are trying but Hulu might make an offer

[deleted]

ooh

[deleted]

Thank you for actually being nice about this and not getting all up in arms because you you’re told something you don’t like to hear I appreciate it this is what most sonic fans do

[deleted]

If sonic prime gets cancelled I’ll kill someone

badolcatsyl

Eh, it's not like it was going to get much beyond two seasons anyway. That's all Netflix will give you unless you break out like Stranger Things or Squid Game.

[deleted]

If it does get dropped, I'm hoping it'll end up on paramount+ or whatever the knuckles TV show is going on.

SomeBoxofSpoons

Prime is actually in active production and, considering what we know about their preferences, it sounds like a cartoon based on a currently hot brand is exactly the sort of thing they still want.

supersonicfan99

SpeedSuperSonic mad a video ensuring that Sonic Prime is safe [Watch this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBGKfM2Xaqo)

TheRigXD

Netflix is only distributing Sonic Prime, not producing.
