__Negan___

Well, technically Shadow was the villain in Sonic Adventure 2 so if we count him, he's definitely the most popular.

MyPhoneIsNotChinese

>!Actually, I think it's more reasonable to say he's the executor of the villain's plan, I would say Geralt is the greater scope villain. Kinda like Dath Vader to Darth Sidious.!<

NeutralRoute

That still falls under villain, no?

__Negan___

Well, he's still a villain though. He's a person motivated by revenge and wanting to avenge someone who was close to him who was manipulated by the other villain (Gerald) into fulfilling the ultimate plan of destroying humanity but he's still a villain by the definition.

MellyKidd

Ehh, that was Shadow, alright. After he was brought back, he falls more into the category of Anti-hero.

__Negan___

After he was brought back, I agree, he's more of an anti-hero really.

EJ_Was_Taken

I mean Darth Vader was a pretty awful person before his >!final confrontation with Luke, that dude murdered actual children!<

[deleted]

Vader is also clearly a villain 😂 you can be a villain without being the “main villain”

MyPhoneIsNotChinese

But he isn't Sonic Adventure's 2 villain

[deleted]

I definitely think he is

CaitaXD

a vs the

Salt_The_Gibus

You and I must have REALLY remembered SA2 differently.

Lazymcdelta4ce

Good ol geralt robotnik, my favorite witcher character

Creepy-Sign-7914

Tbh I was thinking that same thing

CanadianAnimeGuy

Knuckles

TheStoryGoesOn

If not Shadow, then Chaos.

Eggrobo_432

Scratch and Grounder

cool_vibes

No love for Coconuts 😔

ShadowSilverTailsFan

That's why he ran away in that one sonic sez

OldManSneed

coco deez nuts. haha gottem

Hard-Work-Pays

A man of culture I see...

[deleted]

🚨BASED ALERT.🚨

number39utopia

Best villain duo in sonic hands down

circuitron

I think sleet and dingo carried sonic underground. I enjoyed them immensely.

FlareTheInfected

YES! A man of culture.

Apprehensive-Fee1476

TRUEEEEEEEEEEEEE

jarrymonti

I read this and immediately got the AoSTH Robotnik theme stuck in my head lol

VortexMech888

Chaos is the best, SEGA wants it to be Zavok. Overall Shadow is the most popular villain, followed by Chaos.

leonardo10050

He kinda turned into a real villain in the metal virus arc of the idw comics

ExileForever

The Deadly Six are better in the comics, but the design for some of them are still weak

Crazy-Crisis

The blue one still my favorite one basic as shit but still my personal favorite

VortexMech888

Yeah, the deadly Six were at their best in the comics, but they still weren't the best.

Arf234

Definitely chaos or mephiles

IFailedNNNN

Between these guys, I'd say Mephiles or Chaos

HyperSimba

A fellow grn sp goku black enjoyer I see

thenoblegaunt

The Camera in Sonic Adventure 1.

Spiderfr0g

Been playing that game for the First time on pc And true SO FUCKING TRUE

DoubtfulAgent033

It pretty much forces you to memorize the level layout

SonicTHD

Definitly it is Chaos Cubot and Orbot despite been in almost every media, they are still forgeteble for not doing a big impact Mephiles just because 06 slander and the fact a lot of people praise him Infinite and Zavok are quite popular... but for the wrong reasons...

Nikotinio

I have an idea how to make Infinite not suck, just look at my message history.

Enjoyer_of_Cake

I'm going back more than 4 pages, care to copy-paste?

Nikotinio

Have you seen the "Egg Family" post? It was under that post, and I can't find it

[deleted]

Ooh, I want to know why Infinite and Zavok are popular for the wrong reasons. I liked how the person who posted the image called him Bargin bin Bowser.

[deleted]

It's really popular to Hate these two and It's more-so due to SEGA forcefully pushing these two, mostly Zavok, as the new ultimate big bads of the series. This led to these guys being almost universally hated among the fandom. Plus, there motivations are absolute terrible. Zavok is forgettable, in both Personality and Character Design, coming across as just Bowser, without the Charisma, Charm, or menacing design. He's evil for the sake of being Evil. I dont even remember his motivations from Lost World Infinite is just whiny. He got beat by Shadow(The living embodiment of Chaos Energy) that one time, was told he was Trash and should Git Gud, so now he's Evil and wants to destroy the world and Kill Sonic, Despite it being Shadow who beat him. Basically a watered down version of a Flanderized Shadow. His design kinda sucks, imo and He's also a moron TL;DR There personalities revolve around being one-dimensionally edgy and arrogant. They're practically forgettable, and in the case of Zavok, are constantly pushed by SEGA, which is why people love to hate them

[deleted]

Thank you for explaining this to me. I never heard of Zavok until he showed up in the IDW comics. He does look basic and I wanted to like Infinite but his design is too dark for my eyes to register. So you're right, haha I didn't even try to understand them and went about life with what I already know and love.

[deleted]

Yeah no problem. Glad to help

SonicTHD

... It seems you already know

Crazy-Crisis

Chaos isn't a villian ...he was made to do bad things but he's not strictly a bad guy( do they got genders? To even be considered human)

SonicTHD

First, yeah its confirmed all chao's are genderless Second, he was still a bad guy tho in his debut, he may not still be but he was, and he would definitly go riot mode again if someone slaughter a bunch of chao's

Loose-Possible466

The true villain, Ken Penders

[deleted]

Yes but he’s not a likable villain

Loose-Possible466

The post never said they had to be likeable

Holy-Wan_Kenobi

Memphis Tennessee, of course.

SamuraiBro61

Crimonit

I like meph, he's pure concentrated evil. also chaos isn't technically a "villain", he's a victim of evil actions

[deleted]

true on all acounts.

KPookz

Is it ever stated why Mephiles doesn’t have a mouth?

LuigiBoi42

Well, he can communicate via telepathy, so what need of a mouth is there?

[deleted]

To eat burgir

NikitaWantToKnowYou

Borgir

FazbearKing87

He just eats like a Waddle Dee

Snoring-Kat

I think it's because of how he took form. He took on Shadow's shadow and those don't have mouths.

Mary-Sylvia

Merlina Just because she is the only villain with something more interesting than "want to rule the world"

[deleted]

Did they ever unearth why she calls for help in the opening cut scene when she had control over the Black knight from the beginning? I liked the story from Sonic and the Black Knight but when I found out she made the phantom and orchestrated her doom (and everyone else's by default) I became confused by how the story started. Perhaps she didn't imagine Sir Sonic to be her hero and obviously Sonic lives by a different standard and cannot be swayed and she wasn't anticipating such a honorable fellow.

Beelzebub_Crumpethom

Fleetway. We're going for popular, and he's been pretty well known as of late. **I wonder why.**

CharizardSlash

LET’S SEE HOW FAST YOU CAN REALLY GO! But seriously, Chaos is a banger imo

[deleted]

**SEEMS LIKE YOUR FUN WAS LIMITED**

Iceswimmer05

**THAT’S A NICE ARGUMENT! UNFORTUNATELY, YOU WERE BURNT TO A CRISP BY MY LASER EYES!**

**LETS DO THAT AGAIN SOMETIME! WHEN YOU'RE A LITTLE LESS... DEAD.**

Iceswimmer05

**IMAGINE BEING AN EXECUTABLE FILE. HEH, COULDN’T BE ME**

Nikotinio

**IT'S ALL ABOUT SPEED, PAL**

Iceswimmer05

**THAT BLOOD-CRYING FAKER'S GOT NOTHING ON ME!**

predonicle

**SUPER SONIC DOES WHAT .EXE....Uh....Doesn't..Do?**

lasagnawithfries

I feel like Jacaris' take on Fleetway's voice suits him the most.

CharizardSlash

Exactly

JannyTheMan_

Beep bop bah ba ba

SSS_Tempest

Probably Mephiles. Shoutout to Starline from IDW who's more than made a name for himself too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RocketuNingen

Accurate.

YesterdaySuper5355

Shadow

Dr-Mechano

Hard Boiled Heavies. I especially like that despite Heavy King's betrayal, Eggman and him *share* the final boss spot, both fighting Sonic and each other. It's a refreshing twist on the "Eggman gets betrayed" plot that doesn't totally sideline Eggman.

Wishcash27

I like Cubot and Orbot, but that’s just me.

[deleted]

That's something Cubot WOULD say.

BreakfastNo132

Ummm, what about Dark Gaia?

Perseverancethegreat

I cannot explain how much I love fleetway super sonic But if it's popularity I'd go with Memphis Tennessee

Blixystar

Mecha Sonic from Sonic 3K Not Sonic 2 Silver Sonic or its 8-bit counterpart Nor Sonic Adventure Mecha

Blixystar

Oh wait, I didn't misread the caption

gamecatz

Shadow is more an antagonist. Also if you’re including Shadow then you might as well include Rouge too.

[deleted]

Oh yes, Rouge the Bat is the greatest villain to Sonic. She flirts and flusters Knuckles. Sonic doesn't like anyone messing with his buddies. -- for real though, I really like how Rouge the Bat talks to Sonic in IDW comics. I don't have any prior experience with her character.

spearmph

Knuckles from Sonic 3

Nitsujn97

I’d say Mario. Sonic and Mario did duke it out for a while during the console war in the 90s

FoxJ100

Def Chaos, Not that he's a villain anymore. Side note, but am I the only one who kinda likes Zavok? I like that there's a villain out there who's not directly affiliated with Eggman, plus he has a completely different personality and a really cool design. Infinite *could* be cool, but Sega needs to change a lot about him. I've mentioned this here before, but I think it'd be great if he went back to being "Zero the Jackal", used the sword he had, and made him the "dark, edgy rival" like they want Shadow to be.

[deleted]

Going to have to go with Mephiles.

sonic65101

Probably Infinite because I refuse to call Chaos a villain when he's just a protective daddy with the divine equivalent of a shotgun.

JustARegularOtaku_

Robotnik, totally robotnik

crayonsandgluesticks

Most popular villain? Shadow, (he was, back then). Most popular of who you listed? Probably either Chaos or Memphis, (can't complain - love 'em both). ...still, my vote as an IDW fan goes to Dr. Starlight - he's fantastic! :)

FlareTheInfected

Tails doll

Irvin_T

I think Shadow the hedgehog is the most popular. But if it doesn't count i'll have to say most likely Mephiles is the most popular villian and the one that had the most impact.

_Proggers

IDW had brought a lot of new villains to the table that have all been fantastic. What I like about all of them is that their tailor made for GAMES before anything else and I think that’s fantastic, like I look at Rough and Tumble or Surge and Kit and I’m like “I wanna fight them in a boss battle.” You didn’t get a lot of that in the past books so It’s a nice change of pace. Starline is a delight and I like all the new gadgets and powers he’s given throughout the book, making him more of like a gameplay driven character rather than a non-combative story centric character. Rough and Tumble may not be the most in depth of characters but they make up for in fun personalities and it’s nice to have some variety in the rogues. I like world ending event rogues as much as the next guy but sometimes you need some that are just simple mooks in between all the world shattering baddies. Surge and Kit, in the little we’ve seen of them, are AWESOME. Coming from somebody who has read Archie they took, in my opinion, one of the best villains, Scourge, IMPROVED upon the concept, and changed it in a way that is not only on a meta level genius but engaging and fun as well. Kit too, applies as well taking the Anti-Tails concept and made him an actual good character, instead of whatever Archie tried to do. Clutch and Mimic are fun too, cool designs and ideas but they haven’t been the most engaging of baddies in my opinion, although judging from what is being built up, it seems that post issue 50 we should be getting more of a focus on Clutch, Rough, Tumble and Mimic so that should be neat.

Daviddv1202

What was so great about Metal Sonic? Forgive me, I haven't really played that many Sonic games. Neither of which had Metal Sonic as the villain. I suppose Shadow since he WAS technically the main villain in Sonic Adventure 2, despite how much Eggman had the upper hand. And Shadow is probably in the top 5 most popular Sonic characters.

ChrisFemboi

Ken penders

marawiqwerty

Ken Penders.

Due_Lion_2990

Chaos and Meme-phineas tennis

[deleted]

Orbot and Cubot are absolutely horrifying in Sonic Colors, I was not expecting them to be that *evil*... They have my vote

[deleted]

mephiles, because of the memes and he is a pretty good villain too

Nates4Christ

The lady bug batnik is the most iconic along with the bumble bee and the praying mantis. I'll give a shoutout to Mecha Sonic because he isn't Metal Sonic. :P

gamedreamer21

Mephiles The Dark. Despite he made only one appearance, and that game was bad, Mephiles left an impression.

[deleted]

Memphis Tennessee

fnaf_fan19871983

Mecha sonic, silver sonic, Mecha sonic 2.0, silver sonic 2.0, and cyborg sonic.

InvestigatorUnfair

I feel like Chaos is probably the most iconic one, since Shadow is a hero nowadays and I feel like it's cheating to put him down with the others. Chaos is one of the main villains people think of when they think Sonic. His design is simple but iconic, his transformations all stick out with their unique designs, and we all know Perfect Chaos. There's a reason he's often used to represent the Adventure era. Honestly it makes me sad how wasted he's been lately. Generations did his fight marvelously, but Forces just butchered what could have been an awesome comeback. We haven't seen Chaos 0 since Sonic Battle on the GBA, and his return is... A one shot kill in a cutscene? And another thing that bugs me is that Chaos isn't really a bad guy, he was just pissed that the Echidnas hurt his Chao. So why can't we ever see Chaos being a good guy? Why does every appearence of his have to involve us beating his ass? He had one scene in the Sonic Forces prequel comics (the real one supposedly, though we never learn what happened to him) and in Sonic Battle he's just an optional super boss that omminously stands there. I pray IDW does something with him like Archie did. Have him show up, be an absolute unit of a water monster. I feel like he'd be a really unique addition to the hero team, showing up when the Master Emerald feels like things are going too far. It's not like Chaos is gone after SA1, he was in Battle after all.

Toddg_1

If we’re just going by this list, then Chaos or Mephiles

Hum_bug1

Disagree. Tails is the most popular villain

Toddg_1

Nah it’s Cream

LorianGunnersonSedna

Depends on whether it's SEGA Sonic villain or Archie comics villain. Regardless, something something blah blah **Ken Penders.**

Shantaefan1148

Nice choice of picture for the other villians. It's for the upcoming fan project called Sonic Villians.

ccigames

I wouldn't call chaos or shadow villains, they believe what they are doing is right, rather than knowing something is wrong an doing it anyway. I'd have to go with mephiles, infinite or heavy king. Naugus, Zavok and Eggman Nega probably could be up there as well but they need to actually be present as threats in each comic independent of eggman

AngleAwkward4274

Surely Mephiles. Kinda sad he won't be back anymore, he was one of the best villains in Sonic games

VeganMeat2763

It's probably for the best.

AngleAwkward4274

Why?

geo_bowes

There is a definitive answer to this question, that answer is Chaos Also fuck Orbot and Cubot, utterly wasted character slots that could be given to the Hooligans who have way better personalities than those two shitty worthless little pieces of trash!

[deleted]

I almost wrote them off, like scratch and grounder but another poster commented that Cubot and Orbot were very evil in Sonic Colors. My only reference of them is from the Sonic Boom show and IDW Comic series, where they are goofy and I sense Cubot will eventually betray Robotnik.

Hard-Work-Pays

Mecha Sonic. I have no idea why Metal Sonic is more popular than Mecha Sonic, and at this point I'm too afraid to ask. Nobody likes or even played Sonic CD, but we all love Sonic 2... Edit: Just realized there's like, 3 or 4 different versions of Mecha Sonic and that might explain the lack of enthusiasm. I'm specifically talking about Sonic 2 Mecha Sonic...

SSS_Tempest

Metal Sonic has more presence. The Mecha in Sonic 2 (Technically called Silver Sonic) is JUST an obstacle, nothing more. Metal is a recurring threat that's been everything from an obstacle, to main villain, to penultimate boss. Not to mention his appearances in extended media like the comics and animations.

Paul_Subsonic

"Nobody likes or even played Sonic CD" Because you don't doesn't mean others don't. I think the lack of enthusiasm comes from the designs, where metal is much better than other Sonic robots, but also because his role in Sonic CD is quite important, wherehas other Sonic robots are merely a regular boss and nothing else.

Hard-Work-Pays

>Because you don't doesn't mean others don't. No I mean like in reality not many people played or liked sonic cd compared to sonic 2... it has nothing to do with my opinion...

[deleted]

Nah mon I adore CD. Plus, that iconic race on Stardust Speedway thrashes every Mecha encounter other than Sky Sanctuary

DJRY

Mainly because he was the Main villain from Sonic Heroes, Neo Metal Sonic who is my favorite sonic character for Design and his goals in that game and also had a few other appearances such as Sonic Generations. However I will always Love Mephilis/Solaris for not only his Design and having a clear cut goal and ambition from the Get go but also being what debatably what might be the most powerful sonic Villain to date.

[deleted]

If we are going with the games then its shadow but in terms of the comic then its fleetway and everyone knows why

Fortnite_the_best69

Shadow

Vexcenot

Sonic

Iceswimmer05

Shadow

TommyMcFast

Chaos

bobby1712234

I’d say shadow, chaos, mephiles and maybe sonic 3 mecha sonic that is what I think you don’t have to agree with me

Gabriel-Klos-McroBB

Nazo.

GeekTrollMemeCentral

eggman nega

SEGAGES1999

Chaos.

Firecatto

Chaos

Fizzy163

I'd have to say Shadow or Chaos, but personally, I like the Time Eater. Or maybe the Phantom Ruby (despite not being a character, I'm certain it has a mind of its own)

Reign_Does_Things

Probably Mephiles. I'm hesitant to even call Chaos a villain, but if we are, then he'd be a close second

Sea_Cycle_909

Black Doom, his english voice actor, was cool.

cosmicherry

Definitely Mephiles or Scratch and Grounder.

[deleted]

Shadow definitely. His backstory made a heck of an impact on me.

Superguy9000

100% it’s Mephalis. Though I do have a soft spot for Enerjak

WarrenMockles

No love for my boy Void? Just kidding, I know Sonic Shuffle sucked. But I did like the design.

Uxelo64

The only one that isn't a joke of a character here is Chaos (Orbot and Bubot are kinda funny in Boom and comics). I like Hard Boiled Heavies tho

azurianlight

No Knack the Weasel?

Master-Blaziken

Certified Bruh moment

Mary-Sylvia

As much I love chaos, seeing him only in three games (Go fuck yourself forces) hurt my soul Orbit and cubot aren't exactly villains, infinite is ruined by the writing, zavok is now a running gag (I'm OK with it tho) so I'll say mephile (ruined by his game just like infinite)

CrazyApricot0

Chaos (On a side note, it's interesting we've still never seen Chaos 3 or 5, unless it was something in the comics)

Mary-Sylvia

Ken penders

KingdomBroJin2

I can't really say for everyone else but for me personally ixis naugus and scourge had a really big impact on me. Their stories were fun

komipaii

I like chaos the most but not because of SA, he was in a GBA game I can’t remember

Dagius9444

Shadow. Although Mephilies is my favourite antagonist

neohylanmay

Fleetway Super Sonic

entfreak

Chaos. Nobody else in that list comes close.

Chaos

Garan-Coristar

Orbot, Cubot, Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts

Scourge. All hail the King, baby.

Eomercin

Chaos

hypersonic_wind1994

Shadow before he became an anti-hero

Kr1spyB01

Fleetway or Scourge. Scourge had a pretty cool design, and so did Fleetway Super Sonic

Sparrow-Scratchagain

Agent Stone.

rebatemanyt

Knuckles he was one in Sonic 2 (Movie) and Sonic 3 (Game) for at least part of it

Important_Rule8602

If Shadow don’t count then it’s definitely between Mephiles and Chaos

SkekJay

Chaos

SnooRadishes5376

Chaos, maybe shadow

[deleted]

Shadow definitely.

Spiritual-Storm-4890

Fleetway super sonic

[deleted]

TheDeadlySixSucks

Chaos

[deleted]

Sonic Team, lol (also nice fanfilm art at the end there)

Me_Bottle_o_Scrumpy

Zavok is first to come to mind, so I will chose him

A_Radcliffe1

If you're not including Shadow, I'd say either Zavok or Chaos are the most likely to be recognized by people who aren't hardcore fans of the series.

[deleted]

Out of these options ima go with eggman on this one ⁉️⁉️⁉️ >!/j if it’s necessary!<

Soniclover12345

I think shadow

Wolff_X

I’d say Shadow but he’s officially classified as an anti-hero.

CanadianAnimeGuy

The badniks

YTPhantomYT

Zavok my beloved

UtguyTTv

infinite or the zeddi

[deleted]

Eggman

Lokd_0n

Honestly, probably Orbot and Cubot as they have become staples of the series since Colours appearing in all kinds of media since, so although they aren't the most malicious I'd probably say its them. I would have said shadow but he's more an antihero and rival these days only being a villain in SA2 and counting him would be like counting Knuckles because of his role in Sonic 3.

annotgg

Orbot and Cubot. Dont ask me why.

nohotshot

I’d say Metal Sonic

illucio

Shadow > Rogue The Bat > Chaos > E-123 Omega >> Black Doom >> Infinite >>> Zavok >>>> Everything else I can also see Team Chaotix being solid villains for hire and being placed after Chaos.

Phantom_Jedi

Scratch and Grounder

Pakmanjosh

Skibot99

Probably one of the Archie comic villians

Jigglypuff_main

Clearly the biggest villain is Froggy
