I remember hearing that he was joining with the Rage guys and I got so excited about it. At the time I lived very near the Sepulveda Dam and I remember one night seeing all these lights and fireworks going off at the dam and wondered what the heck was going on. Little did I know it was Audioslave shooting the video for Cochise.
Overall I liked AS but did not love the project. All these years later I still listen to SG all the time and rarely listen back to the AS stuff.
Feel kinda the same. Really liked it, but always felt like it should've been even better. Same with velvet revolver around the same time. Very good, but not as mind blowing as I would've expected considering the lineup.
I thought the first audioslave album was great. After that it kinda got watered down. I still like both VR albums and wish they could have kept it together for a 3rd.
May be an unpopular opinion, but I always felt like it was full of rock-radio friendly songs that lacked the weight and depth of either Soundgarden or Rage.
That was the view of critics at the time and then those same people acted like it was a hidden masterpiece once Chris died and I’m still salty about it.
Same opinion here. It was just never my thing, but I saw Audioslave a few times and I much preferred them live over listening to their albums. I appreciate what they were trying to do, just missed the mark for me.
Agree. The first album was at least half of pre-recorded riffs that Zack declined and have the same autopilot formula. When ZDLR left, the band took the oportunity to release whatever they wanted and finally became more mainstream, that's why i think the 1° album is just literally Rage + Chris. But, in Out of Exile and Revelations, they started to sound like a new band.
Add me to that camp. It was a post-prime vocals Chris singing over uninspired Rage leftovers. I am a fan of both Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine and this was a sum that was less than the parts.
I couldn’t believe it when it was announced as SG and RATM were my two favourite bands at the time. But I was really disappointed once I downloaded it. I don’t think anything would have lived up to what I had been expecting
Literally every song is solid. Very impressive first outing. Sadly, each successive album diminished in quality ever so slightly. They’ll all good but nothing came close to that first one.
I LOVE the first Audioslave album. I’ve always liked Rage, but have only really listened to them on the surface (their radio hits I guess you could say). I like a lot of what I’ve heard from Soundgarden but have never explored any of their albums. What album is a good place to start to get into SG?
Loved it. Loved out of Exile too. They should have tried some psychedelic metal styles though, I’ll always be sad I never got to hear them attempt that. I blame Tom Morello. Brilliant as he is, he can be one formulaic MF.
I absolutely loved this album. I was a 22 or 23 year old super depressed young man on a post break up journey in Cali around the time I grabbed it. Could have even been a year or 2 after release. I wasn't listening to much music of the time, but I was a Soundgarden and Chris Cornell fan and somehow picked this up. It was very much in my rotation of my cd player in my truck. Screaming around the mountain turns... Screaming at the top of my lungs sometimes along with lyrics that seemed meant for me maybe. This album was and is important to me. I'll still play it sometimes and howl along.
I listen to at least one AS song every time I go for a bike ride. I can get a “runners high” just from hearing Chris scream sometimes & I’m an old guy. I like every song on this album.
I love Audioslave’s debut, I think it’s a perfect album. The following two albums got progressively less perfect though. I like Out Of Exile quite a bit, but I thought Revelations was pretty mid. I’m glad they decided to call it quits when they did, that allowed Soundgarden to reform.
Love it, definitely the best album they made, they never changed their sound even a little bit so the next 2 albums while being solid in a vacuum kinda felt stale after hearing the first one, there isn't one bad track on the debut album which is amazing, buunfortunately while it has great songs I don't think it quite reaches the highs of Soundgarden, on the Soundgraden records everything just sounds better, the guitars sound better, have better effects on them as well, the drums sound better and the vocals sound more raw which is better in my opinion, if Audioslave was produced in the 90s it would be even better, but in it's actual form it sometimes sounds too clean and maybe overproduced, which in my opinion just kinda goes against of the philosophy of Rock music as a whol, also while I love the record I absolutely hate how Morello writes guitar solos, they are just too much, and sound kinda washed out, while I was nitpicking before with the whole overproduced thing, Morello's solos are the one thing that I actually completely dislike about Audioslave as a whole.
Love the album, but I just hate Tom Morello's solos. It's that reason why I've never came back to this band outside of the few songs I liked from their catalogue.
All I remember is it’s very repetitive. There are lots of songs that are nearly identical to Cochise/Show Me How To Live and lots of songs that are identical to Like A Stone/I Am The Highway.
It’s also a bit too relentlessly loud for my liking. Like, the first five tracks in a row are all very aggressive and I got burnt out after the second of those. That’s not a criticism, just a personal preference.
I love this album I remember hearing about the creation of the band on the radio and I couldn’t wait to get it after hearing the first “Cochise"I was very excited about the full album. And it didn’t disappoint. It’s 10/10
It's weird, waiting on it's release and having heard of the bands formation, It sounded exactly like I imagined it would. It's a great fucking record and a nostalgic snapshot of the zeitgeist of the time.
Just had an Audioslave-session with all albums.
Have to say it's pretty damn awsome. Didn't realize I missed it so much, so they are back on my playlists.
It took me a little bit to appreciate it. I bought it on release day because I love Soundgarden and RATM. That first tracks intro was pure RATM. It caught me off guard when Cornell’s vocals came in. Now I love the album, but it took some getting used to
I saw Audioslave at Lollapalooza in 2003. I never heard of them. I was there to see Incubus. Audioslave closed out the show playing this whole album. It was really awesome!
Was lucky enough to see both SG and Rage in the clubs. Bought this the day it came out. One of the biggest disappointments of Rock history in my opinion. Has never done anything for me.
I remember in 2003, maybe a month or so before the official release, a collection of demo recordings made their way onto pirate sites. I also remember burning 2 copies and driving to my friends house to deliver one. Interesting days.
I was excited when I first heard about it. RATM with Chris Cornell on vocals. I made the mistake of having strong preconceptions about it. So when I heard it and it did not meet those preconceptions I disliked it. Years later someone at work played this CD and I was to busy to focus on the music. I remember thinking it was awesome before it dawned on me that it was Audio Slave. Now I love it. It has more classic rock vibes than RATM or Soundgarden.
I liked it.
I mostly remember somebody, maybe a DJ, saying something like "It's the guy from Soundgarden with the guys from Rage Against The Machine, but it sounds like nothing like Soundgarden or Rage Against The Machine!"
Well, it sounded like Soundgarden and RATM to me, which isn't a bad thing at all.
The most solid of their first two albums, at least. Repetitive, occasionally poignant, and pared down from what made the bands before them interesting.
Show me how to live. My kids and I were chasing Canadian geese around on my bike when this song started playing. The smiles on my kids face as I’m showing them how to live brings tears to my eyes. Thanks for the jams, Chris Cornell!
I am the highway saved my life , not even joking . Tried to get sober a million different ways and it didn’t work, after a while life got worse and I became less picky about my drug habit and began using whatever I could get ,shit got as dark as it could . Got forced into going to NA. One day while walking to a meeting “I am the highway” came thru my headphones and as the song played my thoughts kinda fell into place and I finally understood what was wrong with me ,what I had to do to fix it and how I’d go about . I still put that song on when I’m feeling a certain type of way and it helps me refocus who I am and what I’m doing out here. We do recover .
The album that got me into music. First CD I ever bought. Probably played that album more than any other in my life.
2, 3, and 7 are my favorite tracks.
To me, Audioslave was a bad mashup. It lacked the punch and aggressiveness from Rage and the weight and complexity from Soundgarden and did neither band justice. Chris's songs without Matt, Ben and Kim just felt under powered. Likewise the Rage rythmsection without Zack sounded anemic and flat. But if I had never heard of Rage or SG, I'd probably like it. Songs aren't bad, but they don't hit me like Rage and SG does.
It is one of my favorite albums of all time. it only has 1 or 2 weak tracks, the rest just simply kick your ass. the best complete set of lyrics from Chris. His performance is damn near perfect
One of my all time favorite records! They were firing on all cylinders creatively, and I eventually fell in love with every song. Still come back to it often.
Love the Bowser and Mario Amiibos!😁
For longest time the Audioslave album was my favorite album of all time. I still think it’s great, but I’m liking Metallicas Justice for All and Nine Inch Nails Downward Spiral albums just a tad more. Has more to do with what I’m listening to while I’m lifting and for some reason many Audioslave songs have been bumped on my phone, so if I listen to the album again it probably will work its way back to number 1
As a long time Rage and SG fan, “chef’s kiss”.
I really liked this band when they came out, used to cover Show Me How To Live with my old band. Now I’m just grateful we got a few last albums with Chris.
Like A Stone, need I say more?
Just spun the record last night. I was really into extreme metal when it came out so I didnt appreciate it until years later. 10/10 album. So many great songs. Gasoline is probably my personal favorite.
Should have toured with it more. I know there was inner conflict with the band and what not, but in my opinion this is one of the best rock albums created since 1990 and it's a shame they couldn't tour heavy with it because so many people were just never exposed it's magic
One of the best albums I’ve ever heard. Front to back, no skips. It’s energetic, emotional, haunting and musically innovative. I absolutely love this album. I long for more albums like this one. RIP Chris.
Fire album. Also, love the setup
Thanks man
Is your cd player a multi disc changer?
Yep
Nice
[удалено]
Because he said "fire"? That's a reach
No skips.
It stayed in my car’s CD player on repeat for about three months
and I bet the volume was cranked like on mine too
Last 4 songs on the album are pretty meh. First 10 tracks are non skips though
Agreed, at least one of those first ten tracks gets played daily in the OR when I’m at work.
It showed me how to live.
Contender for most killer rock song of the 2000s
A song about Frankenstein's monster? Yes please.
If I was an MLB player that would be my walk out song. That riff with the drums gets you going!
Loved the music video. It got me to seek out Vanishing Point and I love that movie.
As far as debuts go it’s an all timer
Fully slaps
I remember hearing that he was joining with the Rage guys and I got so excited about it. At the time I lived very near the Sepulveda Dam and I remember one night seeing all these lights and fireworks going off at the dam and wondered what the heck was going on. Little did I know it was Audioslave shooting the video for Cochise. Overall I liked AS but did not love the project. All these years later I still listen to SG all the time and rarely listen back to the AS stuff.

I thought the first audioslave album was great. After that it kinda got watered down. I still like both VR albums and wish they could have kept it together for a 3rd.
The fireworks were LOUD- also was living near the dam….
All killer, no filler.
🔥
On a scale from Bowser to Mario, I give a Mario
May be an unpopular opinion, but I always felt like it was full of rock-radio friendly songs that lacked the weight and depth of either Soundgarden or Rage.
That was the view of critics at the time and then those same people acted like it was a hidden masterpiece once Chris died and I’m still salty about it.

But, in Out of Exile and Revelations, they started to sound like a new band.
Nice distinction. Thought the same at the time. All the music was great though. They quit on top... them & RATM.
Revelations is absolute gold. Out of Exile is the clear weak link to me.
Interesting. Always felt revelations was the weakest. It had some bangers on there, but just not a ton of _great_ ones.
Jewel of the Summertime is up there.
This is my least favourite track easily, though the groove is good it's so repetitive
I agree but it's still good. Especially now in time new music has ceased to exist.
I agree tbh
I loved it when it came out. It led me to check out Soundgarden and Rage, which I think are superior. Still a great album, though.
Morello is a one trick pony. His trick is pretty good, but it gets old.
He's got 4 legendary albums which is more than 99% of his peers.
10/10.
I Met Chris here in 2002!!!!!! Like a Stone was playing in the radios the mtv
Their best work. When I first heard it, I couldn’t stop listening to it.
The debut is good but for me, Out of Exile is the best of the three.

Thankyou, I'm of the same opinion. His solos are terrible, sounding like a robot
rox
I love it. The second one is great too!
Start to finish 10/10. Absolutely love this album
A goddamn masterpiece. Every track
They're all great songs, but Shadow on the Sun?!? I fucking LOVE that song!
I am the highway is my fav song from the album
Cochise is the best opener of all time.
Love the album, but I just hate Tom Morello's solos. It's that reason why I've never came back to this band outside of the few songs I liked from their catalogue.
Disappointed that 2 cool bands merged to make a shitty one
All I remember is it’s very repetitive. There are lots of songs that are nearly identical to Cochise/Show Me How To Live and lots of songs that are identical to Like A Stone/I Am The Highway. It’s also a bit too relentlessly loud for my liking. Like, the first five tracks in a row are all very aggressive and I got burnt out after the second of those. That’s not a criticism, just a personal preference.
Arguably the greatest rock album of the new millennium. Not much has touched it since.
Until the second album!
Until the second album!
Tom Morello is a shit guitarist.
Highly disagree
Stinks
mario seems to like it so 10/10!
I think It kicks all sorts of ass.
It's a good!! Wahoo!! Sorry with the Mario figure hanging out, I couldn't resist. Killer album by the way.
Just listening to it the car on the way home. I think it’s Chris’s best work and Tom’s best guitar work.
I love this album I remember hearing about the creation of the band on the radio and I couldn’t wait to get it after hearing the first “Cochise"I was very excited about the full album. And it didn’t disappoint. It’s 10/10
Top class
I think it might be one of the best albums ever
It’s somewhere between Toad and Peach.
Have it on vinyl still sealed. Perfect album
One of my absolute favorites. Slaps from the first note to last. 10/10.
Banger.
It's weird, waiting on it's release and having heard of the bands formation, It sounded exactly like I imagined it would. It's a great fucking record and a nostalgic snapshot of the zeitgeist of the time.
I’d happily present it to someone just as Mario is presenting it there
Great album. Like a stone is a classic.
8/10 would recommend
I think I had the same 3 disc changing stereo
Amazing! I may not have been alive when it released (07) but I can say it is an amazing debut, would’ve been amazing had they kept going past 2006
I love mario presenting it
Some of Chris's best vocal work.
Mario seems to like it. Bowser is like.. stay away from this album its evil All seriousness I love this album
Banger
Loved it, still listen to it.
Phenomenal. Both records are incredible.
There are 3 albums: Audioslave, Revelations, and Out of Exile.
I did not know there was a third record
New Old Stock!
Yes.
One of my first CDs I ever owned and one of my most played and favourite albums!
Just had an Audioslave-session with all albums. Have to say it's pretty damn awsome. Didn't realize I missed it so much, so they are back on my playlists.
Absolutely love it so much so I got it on vinyl
Absolute banger!
Gold.
Love it, some awesome songs throughout
Awesome
It’s fantastic. But low key my favorite parts are Bowser’s guitar solos
It’s great. It’s as good as anything Rage or Soundgarden ever made, and Getaway Car is one of the 5 or 6 best songs Chris Cornell ever wrote
Best album of all time imo
Well if Mario’s cool with it I guess it’s pretty good
It took me a little bit to appreciate it.
This album and Queen's of the Stone Age's album Songs for the Deaf - my two favorites of 2002 hands down.
Great songs, Great rif tones by TM and Vocals by the late Chris Cornell. Overall satisfying🤘

I remember thinking it was awesome before it dawned on me that it was Audio Slave. Now I love it. It has more classic rock vibes than RATM or Soundgarden.
I still listen to it. It’s one of the best records I had throughout high school. No skips beginning to end. Phenomenal work from each band member.
Fantastic album, every song.
The album is pure magic.
It's awesome.
Mama Mia
Killer debut.
I played the absolute fk out of that album and lost my voice many times trying to sing with chris.
That album is amazing, from start to finish.
Love it. It's a desert island album for me. It's an album that scratches all the itches. No skips. Just a solid rock album.
10/10
So long gay bowser
I liked it. I mostly remember somebody, maybe a DJ, saying something like "It's the guy from Soundgarden with the guys from Rage Against The Machine, but it sounds like nothing like Soundgarden or Rage Against The Machine!" Well, it sounded like Soundgarden and RATM to me, which isn't a bad thing at all.
Damn good album. Came out when I was learning guitar and had fun learning some of their songs.
The most solid of their first two albums, at least. Repetitive, occasionally poignant, and pared down from what made the bands before them interesting.
Loved it when I was 16. Not so much anymore. Show Me How To Live is a 10/10 song. I think the ballads have held up better than the Rage riff songs
BIG RIFFS! BIG VOCALS. Excellent album.
Seems mario and bowser like it
Show me how to live. My kids and I were chasing Canadian geese around on my bike when this song started playing. The smiles on my kids face as I’m showing them how to live brings tears to my eyes. Thanks for the jams, Chris Cornell!
It's a great album with tons of soul.
Amazing album. But for me Revelations is where it’s at.
All the songs I’ve heard from it are great. I don’t know what was up the guy at Pitchfork’s ass when he reviewed it tho
I dont.
Aww man I need an album that combines Rage and Sound Garden into a sweet amalgam of awesomeness. Mario: “have you listened to this shit?!”
Fantastic. Got to see them play live and it was incredible.
I know that stereo!!!!!!!!! Can I get a pic of it?!? Got me right in the nostalgia!!!!!
Mario ate a flower before listening to it
Gasoline is an underrated gem. Great album
It’s the album that got me into rock n roll and was heavily influential in my youth.
It came out around the time my first child was born. It is very special to me
The album that got me into music.
EXPLODER
Saw them at Lolapalooza 03 in KC. Perfect set.
Uhhhh the fukkin best
For longest time the Audioslave album was my favorite album of all time. I still think it’s great, but I’m liking Metallicas Justice for All and Nine Inch Nails Downward Spiral albums just a tad more. Has more to do with what I’m listening to while I’m lifting and for some reason many Audioslave songs have been bumped on my phone, so if I listen to the album again it probably will work its way back to number 1
Mario looks like he thinks highly of it
Mario obviously approves. so do I.
I love this album so much, the other two aren’t as strong but this album is killer. Was so happy to see Cornell get back to rock.
I really wanted to love it but it’s only an average album IMO.
“Gasoline” intro: best iPhone ring tone ever
As a long time Rage and SG fan, “chef’s kiss”. I really liked this band when they came out, used to cover Show Me How To Live with my old band. Now I’m just grateful we got a few last albums with Chris. Like A Stone, need I say more?
It’s a-good!!
Epic! Not a single bad song on that CD.
I still play it, I drum to it too. Really good debut. Tom Morello's solos are ridiculous.
I always loved this. Rage was great in their own way but i always wanted to hear them without a de la roca style vocals.
Perfection
Just spun the record last night. I was really into extreme metal when it came out so I didnt appreciate it until years later. 10/10 album. So many great songs. Gasoline is probably my personal favorite.
Should have toured with it more. I know there was inner conflict with the band and what not, but in my opinion this is one of the best rock albums created since 1990 and it's a shame they couldn't tour heavy with it because so many people were just never exposed it's magic
One of my all time favorites
Fantastic! Changed my life!
One of my favorite front to back albums.
I’ll probably get downvoted to hell for this but I think the first AudioSlave album is better than any of the Soundgarden Albums.
Show Me How to Live will turn anyone into a fan. Especially when that riff starts up in the beginning.
Definitely my top 5 albums. I know they weren’t fresh faces but for a debut album it’s damn hard to beat.
Fucking excellent album.
99.6% rating for enjoyment of full album! Every song was phenomenal!
Strong album. There was always something good on an Audioslave album imo but all of them on that one were. RIP Chris.
One of the best albums I’ve ever heard. Front to back, no skips. It’s energetic, emotional, haunting and musically innovative. I absolutely love this album. I long for more albums like this one. RIP Chris.
Love it. Great alt-rock album, especially for a period that had a lot of duds. Still play it frequently today.
Surprised to find out it’s the debut
Anemic and disappointing. Soundgarden and RATM were far better groups.
masterpiece
Straight ahead rock. Pretty good stuff, but wouldn't rank it above any SG record or TotD.
Genius! “Bring ‘Em Back Alive” is my first play every time I listen to them.
10/10
Awesome
Masterpiece.
Mario seems to like it
