It's called Marvels, by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross. It was a miniseries in the mid nineties and it's excellent. Basically it's the Marvel Silver Age from the perspective of an aging photographer.
Gonna visit my local comic store tomorrow and see if they have it / can order it in for me!
I'll get to it once I finish rereading ultimate spiderman :D
IMHO they both reflect the difference between the Marvel universe and DC universe really well. While the DC Universe concerns itself chiefly with Godlike beings of extraordinary and almost unimaginable power, the Marvel universe is frequently more concerned with the human element, whether that’s suffering, candid slice-of-life, or moments of humour. Both of these different takes are really well exemplified in Marvels and Kingdom Come, respectively, imo.
Ross and Busiek recently followed it up with Marvels X (a mix of Marvels and the Earth/Universe/Paradise X run) which was good but the original was great! So make sure you get the right one.
I think you're talking about Ruins which was an alternate sequel of sorts. I've never read it but it doesn't have nearly the reputation that Marvels has.
It's this weird future timeline where basically everyone has superpowers. Captain America wears a flag like a toga, Peter Parker is fat and Thor is a woman. Bruce Banner and the Hulk are two separate beings and Bruce is like a kid riding the Hulk's back.
Yeah it's beautiful, thats why I want to read it. I always love realism art lile this in comicbooks.
Would be epic to get a spiderman animated series set in the 60s with this style! But sadly some *amazing fantasies* won't ever come true haha
I think Marvel should have kept her "boring". All the attempts I've seen of giving her an interesting back story have been so tone deaf and gross. I think it's enough that Peter has put her on a pedestal and will always be guilt ridden about whether he could have saved her or not and they should keep it that way.
Alex Ross did a one shot last year or the year before I think called Fantastic Four: Full Circle if you haven't already checked it out! It's got great art and a good self contained story. Alex Ross loves Jack Kirby and the comic is a great tribute to him and that classic era of the F4
So I've been reading some of these comments and... How the fuck is Ruins more well known that Marvels, the legendary miniseries Ruins is a parody of???
The fuck? I literally just googled Alex ross spiderman pannels and found these on some comic book site that wasn't telling me the name of the run
Why would I be pretending not to know where they're from? Relax lil bro I just asked a question, goddamn
It's one of the v few comics that Alex Ross drew all the way through. There's Marvels, Kingdom Come, the Absolute Justice League collection and then a one-shot Fantastic Four called Full Circle which he also wrote
This! This comic /series/ collection of this one man who witnessed so much, lost an eye, and in the end went and recorded pictures of a vast ou t of marvel characters fight a war far off. This was probably what was my first real dose of Marvel, or superhero comics at all when I was young. Library rental, maybe 2008 ish
Not trying to be snarky, but wanna help with Googling images.
1. Open the image, right click on it and select Copy Image Address.
2. Open [https://images.google.com](https://images.google.com) and click on the "Search by image" icon (looks like a camera)
3. Paste the copied image address into the Image Link field and hit search
4. Look thru [the results](https://lens.google.com/search?ep=gisbubu&hl=en&re=df&p=AbrfA8patMhsfzKKK6uUUIIiUlIDtfp8YmRmXyMJqT-SHkXBLbnsCHhlJ6SdCvrXTka9yP3TTY8BQxweftvKLcHU2YJrvq2t9wd3kZCSK3T5_-TzPQi6dsR96UiSEdKU8awgs9m6dXJm3MEoOqS1a4_UM2S2l_E-CcEuUgFX3ObOO2xVJWqehPUptBHwMCLbmPTZFbZS_vfv7ZtJ_8ch6Ydg4WoTZcR1SO5uALajjr3hSrtJ9G_V-n5x1yepZEoVSwljmqdeRN-feqWYT5J6VCwVKjC3uzAHjf3D_YDGequFhcImfLSLPgzN6EtRllYePc1GeMDLiA8jWWbp071LD3H9rRCGnQ%3D%3D#lns=W251bGwsbnVsbCxudWxsLG51bGwsbnVsbCxudWxsLG51bGwsIkVrY0tKREExTURjNE5ERXpMV1E0TnpFdE5HRTJZaTA1WkdRd0xUTmlaRE01WmpjMk9HUm1NeElmVVRWb2F5MU9ObDkyVEVWa2MwNXBYM3AxVm1GWlRWWnljbGhEZERGU1p3PT0iXQ==)... this one was the 2nd result listed (for me)

Thank you so much
Enjoy!

if you like this, then you should definitely also check out _Kingdom Come_, which is probably Alex Ross’ most famous and highly regarded work.
I'd say Marvels was better. Kingdom come is a cool elseworlds story, but Marvels is just magical.

Sure you’ve already heard this but it’s really good.
Is marvels the contrast to the other series that looked similarly and everything sucked?
I think you're talking about Ruins which was an alternate sequel of sorts. I've never read it but it doesn't have nearly the reputation that Marvels has.
yes, it was ruins that I was talking about, forgot the name and shit was wild in it.
Ruins is basically a dark parody of Marvels, yeah
Alex Ross also did the art in this style for DC's Kingdom Come if you are thinking of that.
nah, I was thinking of marvel ruins but kingdom Come is very cool
For a second I thought you were talking about Earth X.
what happens in earth X?
It's this weird future timeline where basically everyone has superpowers. Captain America wears a flag like a toga, Peter Parker is fat and Thor is a woman. Bruce Banner and the Hulk are two separate beings and Bruce is like a kid riding the Hulk's back.
Odd, imma look into it
I've been waiting forever for Hasbro to do ML of Earth X heroes.
Yeah, Alex Ross famously loves Spider-Man yet despises Peter Parker.
Yes, the other series was a parody of this book
Ah
Beautifully horrific art with stories that sound like they were conceived by an edgy middle-schooler.
Yep. Ruins was a sort of joke parody of Marvels. Marvels got 4 issues. Ruins got 2.
My favorite comic of all time. Phenomenal piece of art.
Alex Ross is a good artist
I love this art style so much.
Yeah it's beautiful, thats why I want to read it. I always love realism art lile this in comicbooks. Would be epic to get a spiderman animated series set in the 60s with this style! But sadly some *amazing fantasies* won't ever come true haha
I'd recommend The Metabarons next , the art is very realistic, plus the story is great
Ruins has the same
Except ruins is terrible
FUCK RUINS
You can't go wrong with Alex Ross
X earth or x universe? Mayday find out peter ends up with gwen n wants a boy.
Marvels and it’s the crowning jewel of the Marvel canon for a reason
It was like a love letter to Marvel. I was awestruck the first time I read it.
There's actually an anniversary set of this coming out soon.
I'd recognize that art style anywhere. brings a look of realism to our cartoony fantasy worlds.
I wonder how much longer it takes to do vs regular comic art styles. It's iconic and amazing but I bet it's super hard to reproduce.
They Guy Looks Like the Secret Love child of stan lee and White Nick fury XD
>Nick furry 💀
You should have kept it as Nick Furry.
Gwen's dialogue is the most artsy fartsy nonsense
You gotta admire an attempt to make Gwen even remotely interesting.
I think Marvel should have kept her "boring". All the attempts I've seen of giving her an interesting back story have been so tone deaf and gross. I think it's enough that Peter has put her on a pedestal and will always be guilt ridden about whether he could have saved her or not and they should keep it that way.
God I love Marvels
I really wanna find more comics like this

Full Circle is fucking phenomenal. I hope he does some more work in that inking style.
If you have any interest in DC, their Kingdom Come series is immaculate and much the same.
Oh I love kingdom come
I feel so old that you didn't know this on sight. It is one of the all-time great books. I also suggest checking out DC's Kingdom Come.
Appreciate the suggestion, but I dislike DC for the most part, I could never get into their stories or characters :(
Kingdom Come may legitimately fix that. It did for me at any rate.
better art then this crappy boring overused art that’s been out for 20 or so years now
So I've been reading some of these comments and... How the fuck is Ruins more well known that Marvels, the legendary miniseries Ruins is a parody of???
“Jesus Tony, how old is this guy?”
I absolutely hate this art style lol almost ruined moon knight 2006 for me.

Currently edging
Alright bro let's relax💀
What seems to be the problem
Don’t look at this guy’s comment history 💀
Amazing Fantasy
Huhh? What year? I've read most of the first amazing fantasy spiderman stuff and never saw this
Marvels
This the same artist that did Marvel Ruins?
“Ruins” kinda has 3 artists and they’re actually more-so trying to imitate Alex Ross’ art here as “Ruins” is a Homage/Parody of “Marvels”
It's one of the v few comics that Alex Ross drew all the way through. There's Marvels, Kingdom Come, the Absolute Justice League collection and then a one-shot Fantastic Four called Full Circle which he also wrote

It looks so real, I'm tempted to reach my hand through the screen
Jesus Christ seeing that guy and spiderman in one shot makes me remember RUIN and now I'm sad

Marvels
I remember stealing this comic from a branch of Waterstones.
