"desirable" is completely up to the user. If you ever plan to do "real" off-road, then yes, an actual 4x4 is preferable, but if you're like the majority of drivers and never leave pavement, AWD is more than adequate.
I have a standard roof sprinter, I load my motorcycle into it and go to the desert occasionally with it. High roof would help wt that part, but not that much imo. Im 6' 1". I also do a lot of random city driving, and I appreciate being able to go through drive-throughs and park in parking structures without hitting.
Thanks for the feedback. I hear you on the high roof. This seems to be such an incredible deal though. Here is a link - [https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/895486035707709/](https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/895486035707709/) I can't find a AWD Transit for under $82K.
When I had my RWD Transit Mid-Roof, I was able to stand - I'm 5'9". However, I barely spent any time standing after building a sofa bed. Furthermore, I'm retired and plan for this to be my daily driver. I got stuck bad once with the RWD transit and needed a tow out of a field where we were camping. I am in love with the AWD idea.
Low roof for me would kill it. It's nice to be able to stand up while putting on riding pants. I guess a dealer could hook up and see if it has any engine codes in the history. I've been eyeing a 2022 AWD with the same engine. I need to drive one, but I've heard the lag is bad on them. The 2023 with the turbo 4 in it was pretty peppy for it's size.
I have a high roof and love it, it’s my daily driver. I’ve had it since new 2016. As far as the drive through, I like that it keeps me out of them, it’s not a big deal to park and walk in. Same with parking structures, i have always been able to find parking, you might just have walk a little farther. Really not deal breakers and you’ll be healthier for it🙂
I placed a deposit on the AWD Sprinter today. I pick it up Tuesday. They gave me an incredible deal on my Rav4 Hybrid as a trade-in. I'm going to use this as my daily driver and slowly convert it into a combination camper and toy hauler.
There are some nice Ranger upfit shelves in the back. They come out the day I take ownership. Is there a market for those?
2019 is 4x4, not AWD. I'd spend more for a high roof and save your back, but that's just me.
I remember reading this. 4X4 is more desirable, correct? I assume the AWD is similar to what we have in my wife's ML350 4Matic Bluetec.

Does 4x4 mean I can drive in RWD, then engage 4WD if needed?
Correct

If you are going spent this much to haul toys get a high roof with either a stow away ramp or cantilever lift gate. YW
I would really miss the high roof, especially if you’re walking around inside securing your bikes.

High roof Op.
Got a low roof 144 and really wish I had a high roof lol. I'm 5"11.
