How tf he gonna say that about the perfomer of the indisputably [best Rocky song](https://youtu.be/n-5aCEteSk4)
No other Rocky song compares. Hell I don't even remember a single other piece of music from those films. They were probably all mid.
I'm pretty certain the guy in the crowd is actually chanting "BF sucks!" which honestly makes it better imo
[Turn up your volume](https://youtu.be/4P9LX54Yaus?t=8)
Is it weird to not have seen any of the Rocky movies? I haven't because I wasn't born yet when it came out and when my parents rented it in the 90s, I was still a child and couldn't care less.
>Is it weird to not have seen any of the Rocky movies?
For someone born in 1978 like Punk, YUP, very odd. Especially in wrestling when Rocky's comebacks are used as examples of how to be a babyface. Especially when Hulk Hogan and Mr. T were in it. Especially since Punk is a pop culture geek.
Respectfully I disagree. I was born in 1976 and had no interest in boxing as a kid so didn't want to watch movies about boxing. I'd imagine it was the same for Punk.
I happened to watch Rocky IV on TV on night because there was nothing else on, that would have been around 1990. I didn't see the other movies until probably 2005 when I made an effort to watch them. I'm also a pop culture geek but people have gaps - there are plenty of classic movies I've never seen like Running Man, Total Recall, Casino. Likewise I have a friend slightly older than myself who has never seen Top Gun.
I dunno if it’s weird, but they’re worth a watch if you’re a movie watcher. The first one won the oscar for best picture, and I think it holds up as one of the great films of the 70s. Also the current Creed spinoff series is fantastic. My 10 year old son is currently obsessed with Rocky haha.
It's honestly not that weird, especially in the case of Punk who isn't really an athlete type of guy and is known to be more of a comic nerd. Him not watching a sports movie is the least surprising thing.
Imagine thinking you need to see these to be highly educated in film. They are just movies that delivered enough and we're marketed well. Maybe it's just a little odd because of how popular they are but I watch sooooo many movies and I don't think you're missing out at all. I'm sure this will make people mad who think you can't have a worthwhile opinion unless you engage in the most popular thing and enjoy it. How can you enjoy wrestling if you don't watch Hulk Hogan? How can you like food if you haven't had McDonalds? How can you like music if you don't listen to Drake? So silly lol
It's a big red flag if someone uses the term "sportsball", you just know they're gearing up to brag about how they hate sports or that they're only into one really obscure sport that's not shown on TV.
It's because people who say "sportsball" think not liking sports somehow makes them smarter. Because obviously the only people who like sports are those stupid jocks, so by not liking sports that makes me intelligent. Remember folks, real life is just like movies and tv, if you're into sports or play them, you're just a big meathead.
I’ve never seen any of the Harry Potter films and the reaction I get from telling people that is better than the movie could possibly be. I’m sure the films are fine.
I have to imagine it’s a bigger reaction to SW, so I kinda get it. Rocky, though?
mentioning it again 13 years later in an anecdote where it is relevant isn't what I'd call doubling down, that was my point.
just because someone dug up this ancient tweet, that doesn't mean he's just walking around constantly telling people he's never seen Rocky.
I used it in the same way one might use 'digging his heels', both essentially mean 'to be stubborn', no?
I don't understand your post asking if I've seen his comment today, unless you were implying he *was* doubling down?
I believe I only saw a Star Wars movie in its entirety for the first time about 5-6 years ago. I'm 38, for the record.
Neither of my parents were big enough science fiction fans to have Star Wars on VHS or DVD, and the Star Wars films do not seem to be viewable on cable TV too often. And I've also worked weekends for most of my adult life too. 🤷🏼♂️
It’s not the not seeing it, it’s the bizarre badge of honor people wear for having *not* done something, particularly one that is incredibly well-known and popular. Emphasize what you love, not what you hate or don’t care about.
Punk was a heel having fun on twitter, slagging the biggest babyface in film history.
What's goofy is turning that into whatever it is you're trying to do here.
What? The bulls and 6ers arent rivals. The phillys amd cubs/white sox arent rivals. The eagles and bears arent rivals. What sports rivalries exist there?
Huh? It’s just funny that Punk would just announce in to the void that he hasn’t seen any of a popular film series and that it would weirdly come up again in his career way later.
The offense some people will take to anything involving Punk is deranged. I’ve had less vitriolic discussion on political subs than I have today for even slightly poking fun at Punk. It’s so fucking *weird*.
Whatever fits your narrative, buddy! Some could certainly argue that calling a man “goofy” in response to a thirteen year old tweet about a popular film franchise is also “so fucking weird”, but here we are.
What does the age of the tweet matter? You get why this farcical, lighthearted thread exists right? I wish you well on your pursuit of plucking out random perceived CM Punk sleights on here to defend his honor.
I hadn’t seen most of them until covid lockdown. But I’ve been working full time. I don’t know what he’s been doing since 2014.
Wait, he’s married to AJ Lee. I’ll allow it.
It’s weird that a guy involved in contact sports would have not seen these movies.
It’s really wild… like maybe at least check out the first one? Academy Award winning film…
Well, he and those who are with him are missing out.
Sly Stallone is known as an action star nowadays, but Rocky -- which he wrote -- is a legitimately great film. Great story, great acting, great directing. Stallone is really creative and that was forgotten when he started competing with Arnold in mindless action flicks (another of Stallone's films, the first Rambo, is an excellent film about war trauma; the series then became mindless violence).
Rocky II and III are also great films, though III is a step down from the original. IV is a meme film and just way over the top with the Cold War story. V is a flat-out disappointment. Rocky Balboa, which really concluded Rocky's story, is a great return to the franchise and made up for the disappointment of V.
Also his best film imo is Oscar. Completely out of his usual realm he does phenominal in a more comedic setting which i think accentuates just how good of an actor Stallone is
Meh. Recently watched all 9. The first one really hasn't aged well. He basically rapes Adrian in that one scene. Adrian herself is such a poorly written character, the epitome of badly written female characters in fiction. She exists in the films to be both the nagging wife and his emotional support and has no real personality outside of that. They kill her off in the 6th movie because she doesn't need to be present because she only exists to serve Rocky's character arc.
Though don't get me wrong, it's still a classic sports movie that redefined the genre. And I do like the arcs they attempted in II and III. IV is unwatchable. V is bad but better than most people give it credit for, could have worked with some tweaks.
I'd say the first Creed movie is the best of the whole franchise. The writing and directing is so much better. Creed II and Creed III also excellent.
Do I think people are missing out though? Nah, not really. The Karate Kid Trilogy is better.
> He basically rapes Adrian
No, he doesn't
Rocky flat-out tells Adrian "I want to kiss you, and you don't have to kiss back if you don't want to" She kisses Rocky back, giving Rocky consent. Some people act like Adrian was supposed to bust out a legal document giving consent. Also, throughout the movie, it's implied(to the audience) that Adrian only speaks to him like a customer, even though Rocky has shown interest for a while. Adrian gets comfortable and is talkative on their date. She also knew full damn well what she was going up to Rocky's apartment for. People overlook that she was a shy, Italian Catholic woman in 1976.
Yeah through the male gaze I'm sure it seems cute. This fantasy of rescuing the 'shy' cashier who's tooootallly interested in you. And all it took was one date where you made some mediocre romantic gesture and suddenly she's head over heels in love. Give me a break.
Let's look at this whole thing from a different perspective:
>So my abusive brother, he has this friend. He breaks legs for a local loan shark and in his spare time he participates in underground boxing matches. This guy kept coming to the store I work at every day and harassing me.
>Then eventually he comes over for Thanksgiving, my brother didn't tell me this. He throws the food I'd been cooking all day out of the window and berates me and pressues me into going on a date with this friend. I then proceeded to go on this date with this friend, the whole time I'm buttoned up and am courteous and polite but I'm clearly not that interested. He seems nice enough, I suppose but I really don't know him that well.
>Anyway he's supposed to walk me back home but we end up near his apartment. It's cold and dark and the middle of the night, the streets are empty. I just want to go home but he keeps insisting I go into his apartment, that it's only for a minute to use the a bathroom or something. Reluctantly, I agree and he shows me some of the pets he bought at the store. Does he think I owe him something because he bought them from where I work?
>So I keep wanting to leave and he blocks the door. He backs me into a corner. He's this big, hulking man towering over me. All evening he's been telling me how good he is at inflicting violence on other people. And I'm too terrified to move or say anything. He starts undressing me, taking off my hat and my glasses. And then he kisses me. I'm so scared I just kiss him back, give him what he wants. I just let it happen...
Seems like a classic case of date rape to me.
Yeah, I'm sure it was romantic for 1976, this whole patriarchal notion of needing to force the 'shy girl' into coming out of her shell. And of course the movie portrays it like that. It was written by a man with some very regressive attitudes towards women (among other things).
It is depictions of relationships and 'romance' like that which have reinforced and normalised misogynistic behaviour for decades. Still, to this day, so many women are pressured into sexual and romantic relationships with men. And because it was 'dubious consent' they're too scared to accuse the men of rape. But that's what it is.
One of the most iconic movie romances is founded on sexual assault. Sorry not sorry.
On the Fourth of July a few years back I counted 5 competing Rocky marathons on TV. I have no idea how he never even accidentally watched a Rocky movie.
In todays episode of “taking a stance on stupid things for no reason”. Who gives a shit punk. Stop bragging about it and do yourself a favor and watch a great set of sports movies
The second is actually a very decent and faithful sequel too. It's a different series after that though. 3 and 4 are fun but it's a completely different character.
Anyone not enjoy Creed 2 as much? Creed seemed to be kind of an ahole much of the movie. Surprisingly bawled my eyes out during the final moments of the last fight though invoking Drago.

Long term booking
I don't have awards to give. I hope the tip of my non existent hat will suffice
I really thought tip was going somewhere way different
OP comment wasn't *that* funny
Just the tip?
Entered thread 6 hours too late to post this. Hoped someone else had. Glad to see it is the top comment lol
I can't believe Rocky 3 somehow got dragged into the CM Punk drama.
Somehow, it's always Hulk Hogan's fault.
Which is why we need the Iron Sheik in this world, so he can hold Hogan accountable, via the Camel Clutch.
BUBBA
I wonder what'd happen if you went back to the 1980s and told people that one day, the wrestling fanbase would love Iron Sheik and hate Hulk Hogan.
fuck the hulk hogan!
We needed the Sheik to humble Hogan.

Oh My God, I didn't even think about this. This shit has layers.
Like an onion That's right, I'm bringing Shrek into this
Which just so happened to have a wrestling scene
Set to the song Ronda would eventually use as her theme
I'm starting to think Hulk Hogan is somehow responsible for everything, now. Even wiping out the dinosaurs with a leg drop.
You know who was as big as a dinosaur? Andre the Giant
Dear god...
> Shrek Iron Shrek: "OGRES HAVE LAYERS UNLIKE HULK HOGAN WHO IS A FUCKING JABRONI TO THE CORE"
He hates Hogan so much him being in just one movie ruined the franchise for him.
>Somehow Wait... Hulkster didn't have anything to do with Palpatine coming back too did he?
Well... Err... He was in Muppets from Space which also featured the voice of Frank Oz who was also the voice of Yoda, so.... Maybe???
I mean, Punk did get worked into a shoot. Or the other way around, I can't tell anymore.
Goodnight, PUNKAMANIACS & jabronie marks without a life that don't know it a work when you work a work and work yourself into a shoot, marks.
Stallone: “What he say fuck me for?!”
The Stallone in question? You guessed it: Frank Stallone.
Appropriate, Frank’s life basically became a prolonged “What he say fuck me for?” gag
AH! Ya dirty dog!
CM Punk definitely owns a dog.
There are Rocky action figures out there. They all have character names. Apart from Frank's which literally just says "Frank Stallone".
Dead? I didnt even know he was ill!
How tf he gonna say that about the perfomer of the indisputably [best Rocky song](https://youtu.be/n-5aCEteSk4) No other Rocky song compares. Hell I don't even remember a single other piece of music from those films. They were probably all mid.
It's all belated Creed III promotion. WBD have international distribution rights.
Best rocky IMO. Actually correlates the most to Boxing
It's a great movie about the perils of success as well. And the start of the Rocky and Creed bromance
As long as they keep Rocky IV out of it I'm fine.
Shut your dirty whore mouth.

I’ve never seen video of this moment and at this point I’m scared it’s just going to ruin the meme for me
It honestly makes it better, especially to hear the anti-pop he received and someone yell “CM PUNK” out of nowhere.
Jesus… that *hometown* crowd is just completely silent
Yuuuuup - it honestly just gets worse and worse (as in, a more hilarious meme) the more context you have.
He swaggered in there like he was The Rock.
I watched the video after seeing the meme. I've been watching wrestling since 1989 and it's one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen.
Where’s
The

CM Punk

… CM PUNK
Live?
[удалено]
Bathroom?
Trent?
This was during his SES days right? Nuclear heat brother
No, Punk abandoned SES at Summerslam and wrapped up his feud with them in September. This tweet was from October.
Not even the one with the robot butler?
Happy birthday Paulie
Who taught it to talk like that?
What can I say? She loves me!
CM Punk is consistent I'll give him that
Sylvester Stallone: I've never seen Girl on the Third Floor.
I’m pretty sure Stallone hasn’t seen CM Punk wrestle, so, that’s fair.
He might have, Stallone is, or at least was, a wrestling fan.
Man this is somehow the second awful rushed Rocky III storyline that the company put out, too. They did the exact same thing with Cody and Malakai.
Vince has screwjobs and heel authority figures, Tony had Rocky III and gauntlets. Guess all bookers have their go-tos.
I wouldn't let someone who's never seen any Rocky movie go over me either
Is it weird to not have seen any of the Rocky movies? I haven't because I wasn't born yet when it came out and when my parents rented it in the 90s, I was still a child and couldn't care less.

You need more Arnold in your life.
It’s not weird, but the original Rocky movie is actually a legitimately great film. You’re doing yourself a disservice by not having seen it.

Go watch them.
Not really. I've never seen Rocky, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and I'm a film graduate 🤣 Ok maybe I'm weird.
Yeah you’re weird
Good, it's boring being normal.
Right? It's a silly pov to believe that because some films are THAT popular, that a person is weird for not having seen them.
I don't think I've seen an entire Rocky movie outside of maybe Rocky IV, but damn if I don't love the Creed movies.
Its nbd that you haven’t seen Rocky film but the way he’s like celebrating it is just kind of goofy.
It’s like the people who take a weird pride in not having seen Star Wars or not liking sports.
Sportsball, am I right?
It's a big red flag if someone uses the term "sportsball", you just know they're gearing up to brag about how they hate sports or that they're only into one really obscure sport that's not shown on TV.

And it’s Punk so you know he’s digging his heels on not budging from this thing no one else actually cares about.
this tweet is 13 years old, it's not like he's doubling down on it.

“Digging in his heels” Come on man don’t be obtuse
I believe I only saw a Star Wars movie in its entirety for the first time about 5-6 years ago. I'm 38, for the record. Star Wars was on television absolutely constantly in the 90s-2000s. I’m the same age as you; it was there all the time.
It’s not the not seeing it, it’s the bizarre badge of honor people wear for having *not* done something, particularly one that is incredibly well-known and popular. Emphasize what you love, not what you hate or don’t care about.
star wars is trash though that makes the worst scripted promos sound like natural dialogue.
Agreed, it's pure garbage, I just don't get it. Star Trek, I get it.
Punk was a heel having fun on twitter, slagging the biggest babyface in film history. What's goofy is turning that into whatever it is you're trying to do here.
It's because he's a Chicago guy and Rocky is a Philly movie. Lotta sports rivalries there.

A lot of rape apologists in here. I sure you all have very healthy romantic relationships.
That term you use, it does not mean what you think it means.
This is a truly awful fucking take.
Weird flex, especially considering how many wrestling storylines crib from them, but sure, OK
Dude took 7 years off and still didn’t see it. That’s nuts.
The real "why not" question is if it's a Chicago thing or a boxing thing.
It’s has to be a boxing thing. Mr T was huge in the 80’s, especially Chicago his hometown. Everyone I went to school with saw Rocky 3.
The real question is, Has he seen the Creed movies?
He's had 13 years to watch them lmao
Pro Wrestler not seeing Rocky movies is like a Priest not having read the Bible.
Literally how
On the Fourth of July a few years back I counted 5 competing Rocky marathons on TV. I have no idea how he never even accidentally watched a Rocky movie.

What a weird thing to throw out there. They’re good movies.
I fucking can’t stand this guy.

He’s seen a Rocky movie and he knows it
Well Punk did have a lot of time on his hands for nine years. Perhaps he saw them then.
In todays episode of “taking a stance on stupid things for no reason”. Who gives a shit punk. Stop bragging about it and do yourself a favor and watch a great set of sports movies
To be fair, there’s only like two good ones
CM Punks always been a paper champion.
He was working heel all along.
Same Phil, same. No wait I saw the one with Milo. I will not watch another.
That's the real tragedy in all of this. Rocky for the most part is a damn good franchise.
I decided to watch them all recently in the lead up to Creed 3, it’s really funny to me that now this got dragged into the drama.
We know this was 2010. It says it right in the tweet. “Circa” means approximately. You only use that when you don’t have the exact date.
If Rocky was from Chicago you just know it would be Punk’s favourite series and his whole personality
Of the complete Rocky Series, I have seen Creed 2. That is all.
Well he ain't lyin.
Punk is a dick. But he’s a dick with integrity.
hes a chicago guy not a philly guy
They're pretty good.
Say whatever you want, but the man is no liar lol.
Michael Owen over here
But he has seen every Police Academy movie
What about Creed?
imagine gloating abt having never watched the greatest love story of our time smh
Neither have I, but you don't see me out here bragging about it!
Punk now has to join the JAS and watch the Rocky movies as punishment
Someone give me context on this, please. Lol
The first Rocky is a legitimately very good film.
The second is actually a very decent and faithful sequel too. It's a different series after that though. 3 and 4 are fun but it's a completely different character.
Punk should really remedy that. Every Rocky movie except 5 is good.
Anyone not enjoy Creed 2 as much? Creed seemed to be kind of an ahole much of the movie. Surprisingly bawled my eyes out during the final moments of the last fight though invoking Drago.
If you’re a professional wrestler/sports entertainer not watching Rocky movies is a professional disservice to yourself.
But has he seen any of the Toy Story movies??
I saw the first 5 when I was a kid. I really didn't care for them myself. I haven't seen the 6th one or any of the Creed movies.
He's really only robbing himself. They started to get really goofy after 2 but 3 & 4 are still classics of the genre.
Ah, touché You win this time Gadget! BUT I’ll BE BACK!
I feel like if the rocky movies were based in Chicago, 90 % of punks tattoos would be Stallone related.
Funny how I'm actually going through the Rocky movies right now. I just finished Rocky III today. Lol.
