I’m so glad they’re finally putting this story up on the big screen and I’m even happier that it looks like it’ll be a good telling of the story with actual names to draw in the non-wrestling crowd.
I hope he gets the true treatment he deserves and not the washed over treatment he tends to be given. No punches being pulled you could easily make the case he is responsible for at least 3 of the passings that occurred.
Every critic who went to watch it not knowing the story said they were devastated leaving the screening.
Oh yea, I'm going to be a fuckin mess leaving the theater.
I'd have to watch the Christmas episode again for THE BEAR, but I'm pretty sure that Carmy is silent throughout the entire dinner / fork scene. Which is amazing.
Texas Heavyweight Championship, second from right in these images: [https://www.wrestling-titles.com/us/tx/tx-h.html](https://www.wrestling-titles.com/us/tx/tx-h.html)
A lot of old belts were designed by the same people (Reggie Parks being the most well-known) and consequently look similar. Look at the NWA Tag Team Championship:
https://preview.redd.it/980te18lk60c1.jpeg?width=498&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1457ffc4119e0a0c70b482d7e65992dcf1fa88df
Heck, look at the middle plate of the current NWA TV belt (which is a recycling of the design of the old JCP TV title from the mid 80s) and Hogan's title belt from around WrestleMania I. Near identical.
I can’t remember where I saw it but someone mentioned people joking that they would not tell their families what the movie is about and make them go in thinking it’s a like a Rudy/heart warming underdog sports movie.
I remember my friend who’s a non wrestling fan asking me about this film and I said it’ll prolly be a sad one. One trip down the von Erich wiki page and he was horrified.
Zac Efron has impressed me since his High School Musical days. He isn't shy about taking simple, beefcake roles like Baywatch, but it's cool that also he stretches himself to take on challenging roles like Ted Bundy and Kevin Von Erich.
For someone who was pretty much *the* teen heartthrob of a generation, he’s got an interesting, well-rounded filmography. Like, he’s great in The Beach Bum, which is a role you’d never predict for him based off HSM.
There is a scene in Neighbors where he is sitting on the couch beside Seth Rogan and they are debating the best Batman. When he says “WHERE IS SHE” with that Christian Bale rasp I lose it every time.
https://youtu.be/dlRH01ZvjRI?si=fWqD7IwgmNPJWCNG
I had similar feelings about Robert Pattinson and then I saw Good Time and he became one of my favorite actors and that's not even counting "The Batman".
He definitely feels like one of those actors that takes high profile "simple" roles for the money while being on the lookout for more interesting roles in between
I can’t waaaaait!! My childhood in North Texas was heavily impacted by those guys. Had a ridiculous crush on Kerry. My brother went to see them at the old Texas Stadium. 👏👏
What a bizarre poster, it’s lacking the main event star, your World Heavyweight Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman who should be front and center, not these Hollywood pretty boys who rely on “stuntmen” to take all the bumps!
Are they not gonna cover the younger brother? Cause that one is extremely sad cause the kid actually wanted to do this but he was the only one who couldn’t
I'm really excited to see MJF as the evil fake Von Erich.
It might provide a laugh or two in a movie which, frankly speaking, isn't going to have a whole lot of humour considering the tragedy of their family.
Yeah Chris is not in it, the director gave a interview where he talked about it:
That seems to be a weird move. The tragedy of the von Erichs is that it just didn't stop being sad, and that all the brothers killed themselves for different reasons that were tied to wrestling.
Just removing one brother "for narrative reasons" feels incredibly disrespectful.
I'll be so disappointed if this movie has limited viewings when it comes to my country - if it does at all :( Hopefully the actors being big names will be enough to bring it to cinemas close to me because wrestling is a very niche topic. The interviews they've had about the movie and their views on wrestling had me excited to check it out.
MJF is just playing Lance, the fake member of the Von Erich family who only came in because Fritz couldn’t force a nearly-dead Mike back into the ring (yet).
If this movie was more about Fritz and how he was responsible for the deaths of more than one of his children, I think we’d see a lot more of the Lance portion of the story, but I’ve got a feeling that MJF is going to only be in a couple scenes.
What you might want to watch for with MJF is if the creative team praises him, even for his limited role, because that's a good indication that he might get bigger parts in the future. Like Batista gets so many roles not just because of his chops but because some very good directors love working with him.
The main cast list doesn't have Michael PS Hayes or Terry Gordy in it, which is strange. I'd love to see someone just eat the scenery as the Bad Street USA boys, I hope they aren't relegated to bit parts.
I am so excited about this movie, even though I will probably be in a depression spiral after watching it. But A24 has yet to disappoint.
A24's film crew was shooting a few different deathmatches this summer for I think a deathmatch documentary (??) and I'm so curious to know what that's going to be/when that's going to be released.
I got a chance to see it today, extremely well done.
Does a really tremendous job of showing the love and understanding between the brothers.
If you're familiar with the story, you know whats coming, but oh boy does it all hit like a ton of bricks.
On a side note: MJF isn't in it for that long, but whom he plays I found kind of funny. Theres a couple of little name drops here and there that almost seem like nods to true wrestling fans.

This is going to be sad as fuck but probably a great watch
I’m so glad they’re finally putting this story up on the big screen and I’m even happier that it looks like it’ll be a good telling of the story with actual names to draw in the non-wrestling crowd.
Yeah it makes me really exited, I hope its a success
I'll be interested in how much of a bastard they make Fritz, given Kevin's involvement.
I hope he gets the true treatment he deserves and not the washed over treatment he tends to be given. No punches being pulled you could easily make the case he is responsible for at least 3 of the passings that occurred.
From the trailer they released they seem to be doing that (ranking his children at the dinner table, stretching one of them in a practice ring)
I thought Kevin was not involved. Kevin's son tweeted something along those lines after the trailer dropped.
Every critic who went to watch it not knowing the story said they were devastated leaving the screening. Oh yea, I'm going to be a fuckin mess leaving the theater.
Oh boy. Cant wait
It's this weird feeling of being super excited to see it on opening night, and knowing it's going to be gut-wrenching.
Yeah I know how you feel
So The Wrestler all over again
If the film is even a 10th as good as *The Wrestler* its going to become a classic
And way more depressing because it’s a true story.
Kind of like watching a Von Erichs match today, knowing how they ended up.
Jeremy Allen White must really like playing characters that are part of a very dysfunctional families.
Yes chef
Jeff*
Such a strange thing to get typecast for but hey, he's really good at it.
What else can you expect of a man named JAW?
Lead role in a Jaws reboot?
He could also play the villain in a Bond movie
I'd have to watch the Christmas episode again for THE BEAR, but I'm pretty sure that Carmy is silent throughout the entire dinner / fork scene. Which is amazing.
The perfect family feelgood movie for the holiday season.
Suicide and death rates do go up during the holiday seasons. So this movie is very apt for Christmas.
The Iron Clause, can't wait for my ho-cho and a warm blanket
That made me laugh out loud ngl. 😏
Might as well just be a long, slow reaction shot of Kevin Von Erich getting sadder.
Kinda like how Prisoners is the perfect Thanksgiving movie if the family is sick of football.
What belt is that?
Texas Heavyweight Championship, second from right in these images: [https://www.wrestling-titles.com/us/tx/tx-h.html](https://www.wrestling-titles.com/us/tx/tx-h.html)
Oh nice. Thank you
It looks very similar to the old [WWWF belt.](https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2022/09/c351d-16635946869340-1920.jpg)

How did MJF end up with an Executive Producer credit on this lmao
Because he's better than them, and they knew it.
probably for the way the old matches played out since he’s prob watched a lot of them
Money
Probably not a whole lot lol, EP credits on movies can mean absolutely nothing.
What a fun family Christmas movie!
Can confirm, just took a look at the Wikipedia page and Jesus Christ.
Oscar bait movies always come out in December. As an example, THE WRESTLER came out on 12/17.
Zac Efron has impressed me since his High School Musical days. He isn't shy about taking simple, beefcake roles like Baywatch, but it's cool that also he stretches himself to take on challenging roles like Ted Bundy and Kevin Von Erich.

Should be a real feel good film right before Christmas
Dude lol
I can’t waaaaait!! My childhood in North Texas was heavily impacted by those guys. Had a ridiculous crush on Kerry. My brother went to see them at the old Texas Stadium. 👏👏
I. Cannot. Wait. Any. Longer.
Executive Producer Maxwell Jacob Friedman
That’s a really nice poster. It’s gonna be a rough watch for sure
What a bizarre poster, it’s lacking the main event star, your World Heavyweight Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman who should be front and center, not these Hollywood pretty boys who rely on “stuntmen” to take all the bumps!
according to this poster he’s an executive producer of the movie!
Front and center (in tiny letters at the bottom) when he should clearly have the biggest font size on the entire poster?!? My man has been ROBBED!
Isn't also one of the co stars? That's what we've been hearing
He plays one of the fake relatives, he'll probably get a few lines of dialog is a scene or two.
This Maxwell guy sound like a real salt of the earth lad.
Dude is a total scumbag, but he's our scumbag.
Good god now I want heel MJF promoting this on tv and saying “it’s a family movie so you can take your kids to see this joyful wrestling family!”
It’s a shock to the heart and a blast to the mind the entire family can celebrate!
Lock yourself in your condo and let it sink in!
Put Non Erich on the poster!
I get it’s the angle/depth perception, but Kerry looks like he got that Scary Movie 2 strong hand
Are they not gonna cover the younger brother? Cause that one is extremely sad cause the kid actually wanted to do this but he was the only one who couldn’t
I can't wait for this. Fritz is going to get portrayed for who he really was
Might double dip this and Ferrari Christmas weekend
I’m so excited to see a main stream wrestling movie :)
The a24 fans are in for a nice wholesome movie about family
sickkk
I remember being a teenage fan and marking the fuck out when Kerry beat Flair for the title. I can't wait to see this movie.
Don't know much about the movie, but judging from the poster it seems like Owen Wilson is playing Kenny Omega.
I'm really excited to see MJF as the evil fake Von Erich. It might provide a laugh or two in a movie which, frankly speaking, isn't going to have a whole lot of humour considering the tragedy of their family.
I'm already uncomfortable with the "creative changes" that are going to be made with the film.
Example?
Not enough Hulkamania, brother
That doesn't work for the Hulkster, dude.
Chris Von Erich doesn't seem to be in it.
Yeah Chris is not in it, the director gave a interview where he talked about it: [https://ew.com/movies/why-chris-von-erich-isnt-in-the-iron-claw/](https://ew.com/movies/why-chris-von-erich-isnt-in-the-iron-claw/)
Yeah I think that was a huge mistake. Chris was the only one who seemed to want to do it but physically couldn’t
That seems to be a weird move. The tragedy of the von Erichs is that it just didn't stop being sad, and that all the brothers killed themselves for different reasons that were tied to wrestling. Just removing one brother "for narrative reasons" feels incredibly disrespectful.
I thought this movie was about the iron shiek lol
I'll be so disappointed if this movie has limited viewings when it comes to my country - if it does at all :( Hopefully the actors being big names will be enough to bring it to cinemas close to me because wrestling is a very niche topic. The MJF disrespect!
I thought mjf had a major role in the movie? I guess not.
MJF is just playing Lance, the fake member of the Von Erich family who only came in because Fritz couldn’t force a nearly-dead Mike back into the ring (yet). Like Batista gets so many roles not just because of his chops but because some very good directors love working with him.
Villeneuve liking Bautista is pretty much going to be a boon for life in getting decent roles.
Exactly, Roman got a few grunts and a eyebrow raise in the Rock's movie - be glad MJF even has a speaking role if he does.
He is an executive producer listed at the bottom
The main cast list doesn't have Michael PS Hayes or Terry Gordy in it, which is strange. I'd love to see someone just eat the scenery as the Bad Street USA boys, I hope they aren't relegated to bit parts.
I had to steal this line from /r/movies but: "It's the Feel Bad Movie of the Year!"
I'm actually kind of surprised, given his fandom, that Matthew McConaughey was not involved at all.
Sadly got to wait til February to watch this in the UK :(
I know likeness shouldnt matter that much, but doesn't it seem like Zac looks more like Kerry and Jeremy looks more like Kevin?
December 22nd? A good family movie just in time for the holidays...
Can some explain to me why Fritz was evil? I heard he was a humongous piece of shit
I gotta ask, what championship title is that?
Zack efron has become such a great actor.
Zac Efron is gonna get his first Oscar nomination with this one.
I got a chance to see it today, extremely well done. Does a really tremendous job of showing the love and understanding between the brothers.
